Just because YOU waited a long time to play an arachnos soldier, doesnt mean all other did too, so pls stop beeig so ignorant.
There are people that havbe been around since US beta like me, and they were hoping for something with a totally new look.
If you cant argue in a objective way, and prefer to insult ppl instead who they dont share your own opinion, let it be.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're contradicting yourself here.
Anyway, I've been following both the EU and US forum on this and the general idea is that...yes, these VEATs are what people wanted. They're part of an established NPC faction, they're doing new things with the archetypes (power specialisation and unlockable costume parts) and they seem as if they're going to be fairly original hybrid based classes.
I'd be interested in seeing what YOUR idea of a new class is, beyond "something new". -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, what if the new AT was another type of Arachnos trooper, just one we'd not seen before?
Such a development would be easy to fit into the storyline, what with the amount of research (in all areas) that Recluse patronises.
[/ QUOTE ]
But would such a development have the same kind of prestige attached to it?
I want to play a Crab Spider because it's a Crab Spider. -
[ QUOTE ]
Didn't they have one of these in Galaxy Quest?
[/ QUOTE ]
"I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last."
It's a biblical thing. Strap Omega next to anything suitably foreboding and you have an appropiate explosive name lined up. -
Thermo-nuclear weapons, giant cybernetic limbs, psychic powers combined with martial arts, a variety of grenades, lethal darts, great big frigging maces, distinct uniforms, army of killer robots...
..versus...
...the ability to change into a lobster or squid.
While the latter is very cool, I'll stick with the former. The prestige and OMG factor of the VEATs is enough for me. -
Crab Spider limbs are obligationry. Doesn't sadden me in the slightest (actually makes me even MORE eager to get them), but I know some people will be irritated.
It's from this thread. -
[ QUOTE ]
Hmm, that kinda clashes with my concept of a cyborg Crab Spider...
Ah I can work round it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Origin = Origin.
Origin =/= Present.
Your career originated from your stint as a Wolf Spider, and you went on to cyborginise yourself. Still have a Natural origin; just that your current self has changed. -
Oh. My. God.
NCSoft, take my soul. TAKE IT.
As per Augury's suggestion, my Crab Spider shall have a "CHARGING MAI LAZORS" macro. -
Welp, had a more successful run today that was unfortunately hampered by needing to be elsewhere just before GG started "properly". Hopefully it'll give me the boost needed to get more involved in the future.
Not feeling very well at the moment, but thanks to those who pitched in! All mulling over in my head. -
[u]Day One[u]
"Hmm. I'll pop along to Galaxy Girl and see what's up!"
[stumbles across about two dozen roleplayers]
"Eep, too many. I'll come back tommorow."
[u]Day Two[u]
"Hmm. Let's go there a little earlier today, and see what happens."
[stumbles across eight roleplayers all talking to one another]
"Eep, too many look busy. I'll come back tommorow."
[u]Day Three[u]
"Hmm. Let's go to Galaxy Girl today and say hello, regardless of the numbers."
[stumbles across four roleplayers, wanders up to them before pretending to be after some nearby Hellions and goes to kill them instead]
"Eep, too few to let me blend in. I'll come back tommorow."
I think you can see where I'm going with this.
This is something I've always had a problem with in roleplay, in any and all games. Unless I already know someone at these gatherings, or an event's going on that warrants some random yelling, I lose my nerve or find an excuse not to interact and scamper off with my tail between my legs. This, of course, leads to me not getting to know anyone so the cycle just starts repeating itself night after night.
How do you guys deal with this? If it was OOC I'd be perfectly fine. Dive in, start talking, end of. But IC...I just can't do it. It's irritating and rather embarassing.
-
Yes, posters warning against a hostile invasion force. Not comic books that are dealing with such a threat in a faintly camp manner and presenting the conflict with laughably immature Buy War Bonds Nau-esque messages.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about these groups being alluded to - I'm talking about these groups being explicitly named and used in the comic books. Oh, say, a group of mages in the comic being depicted as shadowy and hostile and living in an underground city rather than the Circle of Thorns being shown in their soul stealing, mind reaping "glory".
I just don't think many citizens would view "actual" Vahzilok, et al, in these comics as a positive thing - even less so if they've been touched by the horrors such groups can inflict. -
The only thing in CoX comics that shouldn't be, I feel, would be the inclusion of "real world" villains such as the Circle of Thorns, etc, or at least their inclusion to a significant degree. To the people of Paragon City, they're not fictional, larger than life threats - they're people which are murdering and hunting and oppressing their loved ones.
If any publisher within Paragon City tried to market such a comic, I think they'd have a pretty uphill struggle with it. The city itself never really struck me as the kind that would fall to the kind of exaggerated propaganda we got in a lot of our comics around World War 2, etc.
Comics themselves against made-up threats? Yeah, I can see it happening. Can see it being pretty lucrative as well; you can go and see these Heroes in the flesh after all! -
If you add "Eres" to your friends list, or send a message to my @Syracuse global handle, I can give you a million or two to get you started at some point later this evening. I've got more than enough right now, so it wouldn't be a problem.
-
Ugh, yes. That ties into another thing I hate: players who refuse to accept the consequences of their character's actions. This seemed especially rampant in WoW ("I wore a mask ;D" was the magical get out of jail free card in that game, everything from summoning demons to attacking faction leaders, to leading an uprising against an capital, regardless of what actually happened to the character in qwuestion) and I've seen some really silly examples in CoX as well.
Wiping out an entire group of civilians to get at a Hellion then dropping into Galaxy Girl is likely to have you shunned, if not attacked, by other Heroes and declaring your intentions to kill Recluse while standing in front of an Arbiter Drone would have you dissolved.
Don't. Do. It.
If you really don't want your character to get smacked down, don't put them in a position where that would logically happen. -
Heroes on the Villain side, Villains on the Hero side.
Not in the morally-ambiguous-or-trying-to-redeem/fall types of characters, but the ones who completely and utterly contradict the side of the game they've chosen to play in. I know we can all fudge missions and the appropiate text at times, but when you start changing everything so it's completely out of context and stretch credibility with things (I've been wiping out those Longobw bases, slaying Heroes and planting bombs in Paragon to...um...get the trust of this Arachnos Operative, yeah that's it!), eh. Really difficult to roleplay alongside, especially given the appropiate characters can't just punch you one and turn you in to the appropiate authorities. -

Cheers Syracuse.
Unfortunately the camera is still tied to my character so I'm guessing I may need to ask some peeps to take a few pictures for me to get the look I desire.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aye, unfortunately there's no way to detach the camera entirely. Even so, with a bit of tweaking and cunning use of scenery it's usually quite possible to get a decent shot or two.
Though yes, badger people into helping for the best results. -
[ QUOTE ]
Right - quick question that relates specifically to the Handbook in terms of taking screenshots....
Is there a 'free camera' mode? I cannot ever take decent close-ups that don't cut off the legs.
Seeing some people's pictures, are they better because someone else has taken them and sent them to you?
[/ QUOTE ]
Should be the option for it in your keybind menu. It's the middle mouse button/mouse button 3 by default, I believe (I've personally set it to Page Up). -
[ QUOTE ]
Or maybe it's just they don't get a fair share. I mean, heroes seem to be getting the best sets they could get off villains and that is not happenning the other way around. IF MMs were getting kin or rad, brutes were getting ice armours or regen, domis were getting illusion, corrs were getting empath and stalkers were getting ice, the rants wouldn't be so loud, even despite of unbalance between APPs and PPPs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to rain on your parade, but Villains ARE getting new powersets in time. The ones ported over now were just chosen because they were the quickest and easiest to get across.
Unfortunately, too many people are stuck in the "UNLBLANCED" viewpoint and aren't seeing this.

Yus, time for another inane thread.
I guess, really, I'm actually asking for tips on how to play characters that have lower intelligence than the player. Not a huge dip in my case, but still.
With my character Jane Lundgren I'm trying to shoot for someone who failed at their education, and was raised in a very stern "don't question things" manner. The problem so far though, is that my "incredibly loyal but rather slow" personality is veering towards two things:
1.) A child in an adult's body.
2.) Someone who who is utterly incapable of picking up on sarcasm ("you're being volunteered for a very special unit, Jane"), yet seems comfortable nattering away with an advanced vocab.
The second point is something I'll iron out by myself eventually (so far my characters have been fairly, if not extroadinarily, intelligent so flowery language has snagged onto me as a habit), but I'm trying to avoid the former. Jane is very much an adult, very much aware she's doing things children would never do, but...I still have a sinking feeling she'll end up that way.
Does anyone have any advice for this? I'm not looking to make a completely stupid woman, just one who takes things at face value. The closest to this I've done before is someone who'd yell at the top of his lungs before piling into his enemies. Adding depth to such a concept is tricky.

Can't edit my above post anymore, so a new one.
I've updated the page entirely now. "Full" history, neater layout, etc. If anyone can see glaring issues such as typos, contradictions or stuff that just doesn't make sense...please point it out to me! -
I've added my character Jane Lundgren to the Wiki. First attempt at a page like this, so any feedback will be welcome.
The character isn't active just yet, but will be in the near future. I also need to add the girl's history.
/edit - Adjusted her height/weight values. I knew those looked a bit over the top.
/edit the second - Added some things. Didn't realise deleting an entry in the character box placed it as "classified", rather than removing the entry altogether. -
Pretty much as the title says.
My Mastermind, Eres, has just hit level 37 but after a rather hilarious team last night (that had so much going on mu graphics card was operating at nearly 80c - about 15c higher than anything else has pushed it to >.>, soloing seems slow, dull and just really flat-out boring in comparison.
So are there any high levels team out there who I could join for frequent(ish) runs? I'm a Bots/Dark MM, for whatever that's worth. Just poke a reply or here, or prod @Syracuse in-game! -
Oh, don't worry. I said I admired the Warcraft setting, not the World of Warcraft one. Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally fell apart when the MMO came about ("Hey, let's dumb down the Night Elves! Strip out the Horde's inner struggle by having them show no remorse about their invasion of other lands! Let's completely forget about entire nations we made! Let's change an abstract, mysterious force into something that's tangible and clearly defined!"), but that didn't stop it being the reason I played.
At any rate, just trying to get my head around things really. I so desperately want to get involved in roleplay beyond my current crop of mild flirting with catgirls, going GRR RAWR at Heroes in Pocket D and so on. I can see the potential in the City of world, I'm just a little weird when it comes to unlocking it. -
Stick with the setting, I mean.
I've just come from WoW for what feels like the umpteenth time, but with something of a realisation: in Warcraft I enjoy its setting and world, however the game gets real bloody old, real bloody quick. Conversely, City of Heroes seems to have the opposite problem...namely that while I absolutely adore the game, as a general rule I don't find it's world terribly gripping so without a strong base to roleplay around my interest normally dwindles.
How do you guys do it? What is there that hooks you to keep coming back again and again, in character discussion after in character discussion? I love Arachnos, I love the Fifth Column, I love the idea of brutal vigilantism groups such as Wyvern embody...but otherwise? Something just seems very off to me about the whole world (even if it's one of the more thorough and lively ones I've played in).
Really want to make a go of dedicated roleplay, but I need that little push or spark to help find the right hook!
