One problem is other players will not pick you up.. I always make sure I say. " Robot Traps.. Def Cap.. Tier 2 Alpha slotted MM looking for XXXX "
I Feel I need to sell myself because players otherwise would rather get someone else.. I seen this first hand with Tin Mage. It was only after I got on another Tin Mage team and the original player was still looking that he decided to ask me. He just ignored my tells and then quit his original team to get on the team I was on.. Go figure..
Pet AI broken and no fix in sight.
You need a decent secondary to get in invite sometimes also.. Any healing type usually get a play because you can heal. Trap has some nice Debuffs all around. Poison is okay, but its just single target. You can have several AOE debuffs do the same as poison or a bit less if anything, but no team really gets into that type of mind set. They know they need debuffs and will take whatever comes along debuff wise. Nothing in this game is that tough, including apex and tin mage that you need some sort of special or specific debuffer.
But I need to tell people when asked.. I'm defense capped without my pets.. I do not need my pets to obtain defense cap. Some players are smart to know and ask. Again more silliness for a mastermind, because players don't know sometimes or understand.
Unlike powers other powers, these powers have a LONG casting time.. Because even after summoning the pets are not really ready to go. I have had pets die during summoning. I can't even target them for upgrading, but NPC attacks can..
On certain missions I'm golden. I can do it all. But on others OMG it can be a pain in the back side.. But my Traps AR Defender with Tier 2 Damage and Defense Debuff Alpha can handle it all. He is better then my Tankermind. And no issues with trying to summon pets. Add in the ancillary powers he never runs out of endurance unless I'm just not paying attention.
Personally I really, really don't think the devs can really fix them. I don't think they have the patience or the time to rework the AI to the way they wanted or should say the way it should be..
Masterminds and Stalkers are just going the way of the dodo.
I pretty much use my robot traps to solo and get AE tickets.. Villain merits and such. IF I get an invite to some TF I take it.. Other then that I do not going looking for them anymore since I have been Alpha slotted. I get shards as I do my missions now.
My robot FF is still hanging around by the market holding stuff. Until I get the stomach to respec him.
I just have too many toons that require LESS Work to play that can do the same thing I can with my Masterminds. I look at Masterminds more as cool look factor and for concept builds. Especially my Traps with all the gadgets and such.
Again I am only talking about a specific build limited to a few sets within the Mastermind builds.. Otherwise your pretty much in the same boat as some other AT types, relying on a team just to run 0/8 missions.
I'm just regurgitating the same stuff all over so I will stop..
All AT types should be as wanted as Kinetics and as good as Traps. -
First build is cheaper because no Obliterate IO in Trip Mine..
After yesterday I think that Super speed with Stealth IO is better then SJ with stealth IO.

I did the BSF last night with my Defense Capped, Alpha Slotted to tier 2 damage and def debuff Robot Traps and it was a disaster for me because it was a speed run. Solo I'm running 0/8 or 1/8 with no issues. I can run 2/8 paying attention.
I have the stealth proc but its in Super Jump. I don't have hasten so no super speed. I might have to rethink the build a bit and change it up.
Even at the end it was difficult because the aoe was wiping out all my bots and half killing the last one. At one point there was no where I could summon the pets.. When I tried they instantly died from all the attacks.
What they should do is maybe allow you the ability to summon your bots and leveled / Upgraded in one cast. Make it cost 1/2 and endurance bar or something. You still need to pick the powers, but have the option to drag a button to your bar to do this all in one cast for higher end cost.
I have 4 masterminds myself. 1 Robot FF, 1 Robot Traps, 1 DS Pain, 1 DS Traps.
I think they are a burden if your doing a speed run or with higher end players.. Those who are defense capped or purple IO sets. When your with a average team where it might be you and a few 2 others who are capped out and the rest are just standard players it's a good run. Because the speed isn't that fast.
Add onto all of this the crazy and broken AI mastermind pets have now.. The only working build is a Tankermind build. Sadly you do not have enough endurance to constantly resummoning your pets when they get wiped.
Any down time from when the pets are summoned and get into combat spell nothing but quick and merciless death for them. You need to be able to summon them and have them warp in ( for a lack of better words ) and have them ready to attack.
They need to have a more granular control for the AI on top of what is now.. For those looking to have a more finite control over there pets. Personally myself I wouldn't mind if my pets just stood in one spot and attacked without running after anything. I just want them next to me acting as gun turrets.
Or go completely the other way and make them as disposable pets that you can summon with an upgrade similar to how you respec with VEATS. Your upgrade power replaces the old power. And flesh out the MM attacks a bit more.. Make some changes to increase hit points and such for the MM.
And finally maybe allow just for one SUPER PET. EG Frankenstein Monster. The Iron Giant. Each upgrade adds additional powers that you can decide to use. Those are the new powers you get.
Sadly as much as the devs would like to get this stuff working right. It just does not work well. The pet AI has been messed up for about 6 months if not more and there has been no word or attempt to say they are even considering fixing it. Your pretty much left in the dark.
Further today with IO builds you can do whatever you can with Robot Traps tankermind without the issue of worrying about pets.
There has to be some reward for hassling with the pets.. Currently there is not. -

Quote:Please, Please, Please post how its working for you..some cool ideas there, Plainguy!
I've already got him set up for the build I posted, but he's got piles of respecs so I'm not totally locked in.
I think I'll play it 'as is' once I get it all slotted out (almost there, just waiting on some Supefies, of all things) and see how I like it, then maybe do some tweaks. -
Like anything, yet another derivative on your build for the poor folks

Quote:You mentioned wanting Sniper. You can take out Air Superiority and put in Snipe and six slot it with Executioners contract. It ends up giving you more Regen and more Recovery also.Ok, bought my PvP +3% def IO this AM (thanks MANDUR!) so the grand unveiling of his "final uber build" is fast approaching.
Last call for comments, advice or suggestions, and thanks to all the respondents who slotted my attention span for range enhancements during this lengthy project!
Okay now here is the kicker.. Before you slot that Expensive PvP IO, well at least to me.. I think that Cloaking Device Suppressed will give you the Range Defense cap you need. So you can slot a knock back IO in tough instead.
Now move Smoke Grenade to where Hover is.. Get rid of Hover and for your last slot pick up LRM. 2 slot it with Damage and recharge, one from Positron blast and one from Detonation. You get the 2nd slot from Surveillance. Again you can't slot for Positron because of the 5 slot rule. So you get not use out of it. I didn't find anything from another set I thought was useful, even looking into the knockbacks. So went for the damage and recharge increase.
Also you can put in Maneuvers or Assault as your last power. In Maneuvers you can slot LOTG+Recharge as you had in Hover. Or Assault with a End redux or a Hami and reslot that extra slot back into Surveillance again.
Maneuvers will put you at Defense Range cap without Cloaking Device. Though
I am thinking Assault for this build might be better since all your attacks will benefit from it.
But you can't argue with a Long Range Missile either..
Here is the build, compare it to yours and see. Not much difference really. IF at the end if you look in the combat window and see your Range Defense is 44 then you can slot in the PvP IO. Just remember it has to be suppressed so tag a gray con to see the Defense suppressed. IF good you just saved yourself the IO for another build.
Or you can sell that PvP IO and pass me along a consultation fee..

This build is more of an AOE attack type. Again trying to cap out Range Defense. With Cloaking Device off just add 10 to your defense totals to get your Smoke Grenade and Cloaking Device suppressed numbers combination. Again you need to remember to toss out a smoke every 60 seconds or so to keep your Defense Range up.
So Range Defense is at 44 and some tenths. I think the game will see it at 45% which is cap. It will also cap out some others as well.
Smoke Grenade with Time Bomb should kill a group out right. Anything left can be cleared out with Buckshot or Full Auto for over kill.
I have not utilized Oppressive Gloom ( OG ) but I am using that for mobs that get into melee range with me. Stunning them and using Beanbag to stun bosses that OG will not work on. Again I am hoping that I might have enough stun to toe bomb in a live crowd. I think OG with Caltrops will keep mobs either stunned or running.
Soul Storm is another Mag 3 hold. I think many have seen this work wonders on some AVs. Between Beanbag and Soul Storm you have some decent stacking.

This build is setup for range attacks. Cave missions solo can be an issue because of the hover Kluge. I do think in a group this is a good build as you can stay back.. Drop AOE holds for the tank, stun bosses and sniper others.
Smoke Grenade and Cloaking Device suppression are giving you approximately 8.8 defense bonus. So if you turn off cloaking device and look at the totals just add that 8.8 number to defenses. The issue is Smoke Grenade is a 60 second duration so you need to remember to drop one on the mobs your fighting to keep up max Range Defense.
Attacks
Full Auto is on a 20 second recharge.
Gun Drone is a 57 second recharge, duration for Gun Drone is 90 seconds. So you have 30 seconds of double gun drone.
You have Web Envelope and Web Grenade to hold mobs in place.
You also have Beanbag and Taser as you Mag 3 hold for bosses. Beanbag has a 20 second duration and Taser a 12 second duration, both of course have a quick recharge for multiple stuns. Great for stacking as well.
Buckshot is your attack for keeping mobs away from you.
And then as added damage the spiderlings. Again just some additional damage you can toss out.
I sort of image this as tossing smoke grenade, Possibly Caltrops in front of me. Then Opening up with Full Auto followed by Web Envelope or vice versa, Web Envelope and then Full Auto along with Gun Drone(s) and Spiderling Blasting.
I do think it has a decent amount of control between a AOE immobilize and single immobilize and the 2 Mag 3 stuns which have a longer duration then recharge. So you can pretty much keep a few mobs in perma stun.
I added a +recharge to Buckshot which can be replaced.
Anything else that might seem odd is because the build has reached the 5 same bonus rule. So unless there was another set bonus within the set that I felt was needed I went frankenslotting. A perfect example of this is Gun Drone. Though it breaks the 5 rule I kept it for the Range Defense.

Your Scorpion Shield is over slotted so your not getting any bonuses from it for your Range Defense. You might as well take out at least the last slot and place it somewhere else. Go to Windows and click on Set & Bonuses to see where your over slotted.
I would look at Nethergoats thread on this as there are many builds up there with many different angles. It might give you some ideas.
To me personally I would skip fly and pick up a rocket pack for when needed. I would pick up Smoke Grenade even if its for the perception bonus.
*EDIT*
Of course Nethergoat sneaks with the link -
Lots of insight.. Thanks tons
I think many hit it on the head. Trying to do too many things at once.. Too many toons.. Too many shiny things.. Currently I run 2 solo bases, one on each side. The villain side base is full. The hero side is getting there.
I usually do not buy from the market as I run solo at 0/8 missions so I end up with tons of stuff. So for the most part all the IOs and Salvage are free. which I think makes me sound more retarded since I have free stuff and still not making tons of cash.
I need to learn the numbers as Fulmens was explaining.. I don't have the system down yet to what it cost to make something or what the profit will be just by looking at the IO type and Salvage type.
Fourspeed did hit it home for me with the work comment. I get bent out of shape when I feel it starts to become work.
But I think I need not to be scattered all over the place and organize my stuff as well. Salvage is all over in the base. I run around to 7 or 8 different bins trying to find 2 Demon blood samples, when I know even if I went color coding I could at least know to look in the Orange, Yellow or White bins.
I partially blame Nethergoat as he posted a AR Dev build which got me Jealous. But started me thinking about reworking my AR Traps Defender in the same route.
Again thanks for steadying the boat. I think I felt overwhelmed with all this stuff on all these toons. I'm gonna do some house cleaning and reorganizing. -
Quote:Aye I'm thinking that as well.Or just hit them with Beanbag or Taser. Three acc/stun/recharge in either, plus OG, will let you perma-stun a boss easily with recharge to spare.
I was going to try Range Defense cap with my AR/Dev. Then I started looking at my Kin DP who has range defense currently 30, it used to be 10. I notice the difference in the number I hits I get now. So I was considering maybe not going so high in Range defense cap and trying to think of odd ideas to keep mobs off me if they get too close. Caltrops is great but mobs do traverse the Caltrops to fight me. Its that they then turn their backs to run away after the hit. So I was looking to get a double whammy on them. Stun or run, it might give me some time to drop a trip mine also.
Though with my luck the Devs will finally catch the hint and tune up Dev and all this thinking and ideas will go to waste. -
Quote:I'm still torn, regardless you can swap out time bomb for assault. I'm getting an additional 4 or 6 DPS increase on attacks. So I'm going from 54 to 58 DPS per Shockwave attack. It would cost 78 endurance and 9.75 for a total of 32 seconds to cast shockwave to equal one Time Bomb. Granted there is a 7 second difference in cast time and a bunch of other difference.Add me to the hoard of people that consider ANYTHING better than timebomb. Assault is your best choice.
I'm thinking you can cast shockwave at a loss of 4 dps while time bomb is recharging and be in the same boat. 78 endurance compared to 13 endurance is big deal as well. Further as was confirmed to me on the defenders forum, Assault does not work well with Pseudo pets, which traps has many. So the only powers benefiting from assault are your other attacks. Further I think the T9 DP attack is also considered a Pseudo pet. Again not sure, just thinking I read that somewhere when DP was first introduced.. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Sorry about that.
Nonetheless here is the build. I have Power Sink on my AR Traps Defender and its really great to get that endurance back. Add in Conserve Power and your pretty much just using these back and forth for a great save on endurance.

Quote:Thanks GarentAssault will not add its damage to trip mine. Pseudopets inherit your buffs, but they also inherit the duration of those buffs. Assault is a short lived buff that refreshes constantly, and it is sure to wear off before the trip mine actually goes off. Something like this would need to be programmed in to mids on a case by case basis, so it's just not going to happen because of powers like lightning storm which will get a damage buff to some of its attacks and not others.
Then I believe I will stick with Time Bomb. The dps increase I am getting to my Sonic attacks will NOT outweigh the damage Time Bomb does. I looked at the increase and I was going from 100 points damage total in an attack to 106 or 109 ( I don't recall the exact numbers but it was 6 to 9 damage increase ). 6 to 9 points difference increase is not going to add up over time compared to the amount of dps Time Bomb puts out. Even if it was a 10 point damage increase. If Time Bomb is doing 400 dps and I have a 112 seconds down time. I would have to fire off a Sonic attack every 2.8 seconds to equal up to 400 dps over 112 seconds. -
I have a Sonic Trap Corruptor i19 build I have been tweaking.. It is completely Positional Defense Capped. My only issue is Assault or Time Bomb. I'm in the middle of a thread on the Defender forums with Time Bomb question and waiting on a reply related to the difference. Basically I was believing that Time Bomb was better but someone mentioned that Assault was better overall. Swapping out the powers MIDS was showing me with a damage increase with Assault running. I think I fell for the big explosions means its better scam.
Once I get home I will post up the build. I think once you get it all set up I think yours will be much more fun because you have the AOE knock down that Sonic does not. -
I pretty much read all the guides on making INF. I have about 30k in tickets to work with atm and about 400 million liquid. I have about 4 or 5 defense cap toons to use for various things.
Let me try to get across my issues. Hopefully they make some sense and then hopefully someone can sort of steer me in the right direction.
With i19 I have been trying to build up my Alpha slots of several of my toons. I have done some AE tickets purchasing that worked well for creation and selling purposes.
I think my problem might be that I am trying to respec toons to make them better with i19 out and I am not selling as much as I should or what not.
So what I am trying to understand is when your trying to make your billion(s) is that all your doing ? Are you hunkering down and being as cheap as possible basically trying to hoard all the money you can or are you doing regular game play and still making this kind of money.
It could be that I don't have a system down persay in the sense that I am not saying okay tuesday is crafting and selling day and that is all I do that day. Or good part of the time I am on.
I get the whole look at what is selling high and how long it takes to sell and such. But I read some of this stuff and I get the impression guys and gals are doing this in a week or 2. And I am not getting any big hits. I will says some stuff I did sell for 20 million and such.
I think another part is since I have so many toons I get caught up with the whole wait I can use this for this toon and if I sell it now for 10 million I know 3 weeks from now I will be buying it back for 30 million.
Perfect example last night I used hero/villian rewards to buy LOTG +Recharge. Now I could have sold 3 of them for about 150 million each easy. But instead I placed them on a toon.
I know someone might say dude wtf are you complaining about.. You have a bunch of IO toons, 400 million and tons of other stuff.
I think I am at the point where I am maxing myself out with non purple IO builds and I am now looking to go to the next step and kick up the builds even higher.
The impression I get from reading is players are just working the market for 10 to 15 minutes a night and logging out and I feel like it is taking me hours to look around at the market to see what is selling and what I have to make.
I know I'm a bit all over the place with all of this, but just trying to get out my thoughts on confusion I'm having. I'm pretty much hoping someone says I remember when I was like that and this is what I did... -
Quote:Doesn't Dark have a heal ?Thanks guys.
My secondary right now is dark. I figure that with two pets healing me, I should be able to stay alive longer. I'm going to try to stick in there. I'm actually level 13 right now lol. For some reason, I thought that I was 15.
Can you just say what powers you have and how many slots you have in these powers ?
How many whip attacks do you have ? -
Some will say 2 Defense buff IOs for max bubble and then 2 hit and 2 damage.
I say depends on your secondary. With Traps I can get defense cap and not even think about Protector bot bubbles. Dark can give you defense cap through Hit Debuff on mobs, though I'm not crazy about relying on that sort of thing. I have a dark electric and it can be problematic at times. Force Field, well your pretty much all defense on this one so not an issue. Poison and Pain I can see where you might want to consider how much defense your protector bots are handing out.
I never seen anyone say slot for heals. -
Quote:You know I might have to look at Assault. Does Assault add damage to Trip Mine. Wasn't sure if it added damage to Pseudo pets like trip mine.Heya' Plain,
You make some interesting points. But here are some other things to consider.
On most teams (and possibly solo, depending on build), Assault will most likely add more DPS than Time Bomb. It's available at L6 and is good right out of the box.
Further, your best use for Time Bomb involves a single late-game TF; that is the very definition of situational. For me, I'd rather have power a power that is always decent than one that is occasionally really good. And that is a decision most of us make with regards to our pool powers.
It's excellent that you've found a good use for a power most people skip. But that's not the same as saying that Time Bomb is a good power; it really isn't. Most people have access to other powers that will be far more beneficial to them over the long run.
I have a build that I swapped out Time Bomb for Assault and did notice that the Damage bar under show totals was higher and I did notice that with Assault on all my dps powers where higher in damage, which included Trip Mine. And I will admit there are times even with Def Cap sometimes a hit squeaks in and breaks the placement but still causes me to loose endurance. Just something is making me feel that MIDS is incorrect and Assault does NOT add dps to trip mines. If someone knows for sure It would be nice. -
I have a AR Device level 50 and I am trying to find some unique ways of keeping mobs off him. I remember how much those Murk Eidolon would just keep me stunned in the sewers. I was praying someone would kill them so you could move.
I am considering Caltrops and Oppressive gloom running. Maybe even just using web grenade on the boss to keep them in place but out of melee range. Again I know its not the perfect scenario, but wonder if anyone is seeing a decent amount of mobs stunned with this power. -
Great info.
I appreciate that you were able to clearly explain to new players that the set has its ups and downs and the real reality expected when using the set and not some guide boasting some fictitious hype about how it can conquer the world.
As dumb as it sounds and as obvious as it is. I just never thought of TIME BOMB and Toe bombing.. That is 1000% better then doing it with trip mine. -
Quote:I clearly understand what your saying. My Sonic Traps is actually a Corruptor as well. What I am starting to learn is the following.Skipped it on my Sonic/Traps Corr, if you run on teams frequently skip the power. Name a team of people that will let you sleep a group, place a time bomb, and wait? I've never even seen a team wait for trip mine, doubtful Time Bomb will make much use. Maybe in situations like the platform and roofs of the ITF, you might find some use. But, IMO not worth taking. Might I add this power can be interrupted, making using it effectively a bit difficult at times.
1. Many players can defense cap but do not. They do not get it. Out of a team of 8 players I might be the only defense cap player, that includes the shield electric scrapper I might be teamed with at the time.
2. Many players and I am guilty of this myself just look at a recent rad earth post I made on controllers forum. But many players don't get the idea of slotting IOs. They have no clue on concept. Not their fault, maybe someone gave them bad information or they might have not asked the correct questions or even any question on these forums. So end result they have a 100 million or 200 million INF build that goes nowhere.
3. With Traps regardless if the other AT that is associated with it, you can defense cap with no issues. So you could be Traps / shoemaker and still solo a 0/8 mission. Because you have Trip Mine and Time Bomb.
4. Here is the odd point. When I was not defense capped I didn't want to solo. It was sort of boring and slow. I was running on standard or lower setting. But when your defense capped soloing is not that bad now. half way through a mission I am full of inventions and by the end I might be half full of salvage. The great thing about solo defense cap playing is simply you are it.. That is it.. There is no one to pull aggro away from you. The mobs will have no choice but to come back to you.. It's not like they are going to run away and never come back.
With all that being said. This is where Time Bomb shines. 3 or 4 slotted is more then enough for this power, it is that massive of an explosion.
I can relay a incident I had with my Sonic Traps running LGTF. The Brute and myself were the only players that were defense capped. We went into the room in the sewers to fight the 4 bosses, where you usually fight famine first. Nonetheless we were a bit spread out and speeding to get it done. This was before i19. We lost one player in the tunnels behind us and intended on teleporting and ressing. So with 7 going into the room, the brute started to fight and then DCed.
Everyone died but me. I then jumped back to the tunnel entrance away from the 4 bosses but still was chased of course by the other Rikti. I layed down all my Traps and then used Assemble team to teleport everyone behind me in the tunnel, out of aggro. I then proceeded to create ress inspirations for those that needed or a break free for those that had the ress but needed the break free. By the time the Brute relogged back in I had all but one player up. I was killing so many mobs that getting inspirations was not an issue to make these resses or break frees.
I cannot tell you how many pats on the back the team was handing out to me that day and the number of questions I was asked about the build. Everyone thought I was running purple IOs, when the truth is I don't own a single purple IO.
Now I could have done what I did with just trip mine, but Time Bomb really helped out in that instance.
What I started doing now is while everyone is running towards the ends of these LGTF missions now.. Myself and 1 other might stay behind and kill mobs while the rest speed ahead. I usually do this when looking to get that mind reader NPC killed in the LGTF. Its a long mission so I will go about killing mobs while the rest look for the NPC to get her killed off.
I don't have Time Bomb on my AR Device because in that instance it is a waste. But TRAPS is that awesome and great that you can afford to get it and use it more then another AT might.
Further now with i19 out, you have an eaiser time of getting defense capped and still have powers left over. On top of all of this Defenders get a 30% solo damage bonus add in the damage alpha on top of your defense cap. Now think about the solo damage your laying out. I almost think they made a mistake creating Traps, it is that good. So in todays game with traps I see no reason why you couldn't pick up Time Bomb and still be slotted the way you want to be with no worries of gimping yourself. -
I have to disagree with some of the thoughts.
If your going to be traps then you definitely can be fully positional defense capped.
Sonic has that aoe sleep. I use Time Bomb in conjunction with Trip mine to and the AOE sleep to pull 2 full groups while running 0/8 or 1/8 setting. Between the 2 its a real good soloing tool. Again only because you can run defense capped. I will say there are times it does become difficult to place because I have SO MANY mobs on me that the streak breaker or whatever its called takes effect and I will get hit for some tiny number that ruins the placement of Time Bomb.
I think with i19 you have more powers then almost needed. Personally myself for many of my Defense Cap builds all it did was give me a travel power and 2 other 1 slotted powers.
Further just last night I was playing around with my AR Traps build and I think I have a pretty high end build that can be pretty massive incorporating in the Damage Alpha slot. -
Nethergoat your last build which I like, is putting you over the cap on recharge. That max 5 of the same thing rule. You just need to change shield breaker to analyze weakness.

Are any of the rad powers auto hit or do any require a hit check..
