Robots/Traps needs a bit of help

Hello everyone, I have made this character before all the way to level 40 something, but it was on another account and I want to remake him.

if someone could help me with a build, price is no object for this one, I want a robots/traps MM to be able to solo even the hardest of content!

Also any hints tips or tricks are always appreciated, ive read over many mm guides, but I thought I would address the MM community as a whole on this one

If price is no option, then heres what im currently running on my bot/traps. I can solo any AV thrown at me, and i solo Gms just for kicks. Granted, i highly recommend you get used to how bots/traps runs before throwing money into it, but it is a fairly fun build.

Here's my build. Compared to Arbegla's it trades a bit of global recharge for soft-capped defenses as well as a few power switches (i.e. I don't have hasten as a personal choice). Checking it in game I'm actually a little bit over the softcap (47.97%) so I could probably tweak it a bit for more recharge.

If i use my vet pet i hit soft capped on all 3 positions, but i normally hover(both with the power, and figuratively) around 41-43%. I figure with the seeker drones plus my resistance shield, plus bodyguard mode its about good enough.

I only just picked up hasten, due to i19 (grabbed assault, hasten, and repair) and im loving being able to have 3 acid mortars out at a time, and double stacking triage beacon is just pretty.

Not quite. The Vet pet gives 3% defense and with one prot bot shield you're at 40.85%/40.85%/39.65%. So even with the vet pet you're not quite soft-capped, still it's probably close enough to not really matter.

Are you counting 12.21% for the protector bots? and enabling hover? then again, i could have lethal/smash monitored in game instead of Melee, so my positions may not be softcapped. I'm at work now so i can't check to see exactly what is softcapped on that build, but i know i achieved something with the vet pet out..

I was using 12.15% for the Prot Bots so close enough . But yeah you do have slightly higher S/L Defense, I missed that you do have 42%ish Defense there.

First build is cheaper because no Obliterate IO in Trip Mine..
After yesterday I think that Super speed with Stealth IO is better then SJ with stealth IO.

I play a Bots/FF and run (when using my Radial Nerve Boost) at softcapped S/L once I have Force Shield from my Protector Bot on me. My build has a minimal amout of IO sets, so might be a good starter to work with (quite cheap, as far as I know, too).

hi guys, mind taking alook at this build, its based on Arbegla's build so maybe he wouldnt mind taking alook, but anyways only problem is i cant see in mids what % protector bots adds to your defense, but i think its soft capped and has alittle more recharge.

I too just went back to my mm and i never knew how to slot him properly and i want to use him for av killing which is what i enjoy doing most .

Your data chunk is not there and the link is not working properly so it's hard to get the data downloaded for proper examination. But I did look at Arbegla build which you based this off.

Honestly I don't understand Arbegla build. It seems very, very expensive, into the billions and unnecessary. Its not even at defense cap.

Since you seemed to have followed his build but changed a bit around, but nothing that would effect you defense cap. Your pretty much in the same boat build wise.

You need to read and understand Dechs thread on Defense cap. its around on the forums you can do a search for it. I don't have the link on this laptop atm to directly link it.

The thing is plainguy, my build doesnt have to be at the softcap, due to all the other layers helping it out.

double stacked triage beacon, the resistance shield, and my debuffs do far more for me then another 2 - 3% defense would (heck, Arcanaville pretty much said the mitigation i have is better then the mitigation a softcapped SR scrapper with aid self has)

And, even with the purple patch, the seeker drones -tohit values (from both me and my protector bots) fill that 2 - 3% hole in my defense. so for all intents and purposes, i am softcapped, in addition to all the other mitigation i have.

that bot/traps build is my main character, and i pretty much threw money at it to give even the slightly increased in mitigation. I used to have the scorpion shield which put me way beyond the softcap on smash/lethal/energy, but the resistance shield i have now ends up adding more to it, as well as having double stacked triage beacons, and being able to floor AVs tohit values against me.

Remember, you bots take 3/4 if the damage that you would've taken due to bodyguard mode, but that damage is lowered by your resistance first. So, if BaBs hits you with his energy transfer power, and it would normally do about 1500 damage, your resistance (in this case about 46.2% cuts it down to 810 and then your bots cut it down again by 75%, so you only have 202 damage. If your at the softcap, but have no resistance, then you only have bodyguard mode to fall back on, so you end up taking 375 damage after bodyguard mode. (your pets take about 1/2 what you took, so for the first example, its 101, for the second its 187.5)

Your build is off. You are relying on a Kluge and a prayer to hope you get defense cap. Your relying on a pets seeker drones you have no control over. Your hoping your proc goes off in yours. I don't even know how long the debuff last for drones.. Cityofdata, redtomax, or the wiki show no duration number for seeker drones to hit debuff.

Your talking about powers that I have as well and benefit me in the same way they benefit you.. So If I'm already at defense cap and you need this stuff to obtain defense cap.. I'm at defense cap plus more. So when some mob hits me we defense debuff and knocks down half my defenses, it knocks you down to zero defenses.. Our hit debuffs only help me to bring me up to a higher defense value in the 30s. whereas your bring you back up to the teens.

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=185167 <- Dechs defense cap thread.

To show you how skewed your build is.. I can pick up the same MU power slot for +3 defense from the Gladiator set pickup from merits and now still be at Positional defense cap and I can reslot 3 powers that were offering me the 3% in Melee, Ranged and AOE defense which would allow me many more slots to increase my regen and recharge of many powers including Triage beacon. End result I can do with one purple IO that has taken you 5 purple sets to do.

In your babs comment. If something fails you fighting babs your lower defenses will open you up for more hits which your pets cannot recover from..

You cannot do anything with that build without your pets. Whereas I can solo 0/8 with no pets. Your pets are built with lesser values compared to mine.

You tossed billions at the build thinking it was gonna make it better. Purple is not better

My build i think is soft capped if the protector bots provide 11% defense, Please take another look, i do like the added mitigation that the electric armour provides though.

I looked at the build jonnycash.

I concur that protector bots will get you where you need to be defense wise. But that means you need to make sure you summon the protector bots first and wait until they buff you with a bubble before summoning the other bots.

I really am not a bit fan of relying on something else unless I have no other way around it.

I just think you can purple out my build move some things around and get yourself in that high recharge and be defense capped without need a pet bubble and finally without all the billions. I think your talking just 12 billion( aprox 4 billion each ) for the gladiators in dark embrace alone.

I just see this spending like a rich guy trying to toss money at a problem and hoping it goes away. There are times when purples are great and a awesome boon. I just don't think this is one of those times. I just do not see anything beyond recharge that these IOs are offering you.

I get double Triage. I get double Acid Mortar. I can lay out dozens of Trip mines. I'm at defense cap without my bots. I will say I do notice the proc going off in Bon Fire since I pull so many mobs and so many of them are trying to run through the fire.

I can do plenty without pets plainguy, and while i will admit that i tossed billions in to that build to just bascially toss billions into it, i know what i can and can not do with it. I like the way it plays, and i was merely sharing my build, as there isn't a whole lot that can compare to it.

2 - 3% def isn't all that much to make up for. I've read dechs guide, and i really don't care much about the 2 - 3% difference. Even without the -tohit proc in seeker drones i can make up that difference. I have absolutely zero need for any other defense.

Oh, and seeker drones last 40 seconds. EACH

http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/power..._Traps_Seeker1

•PerceptionRadius -0.9 for 40s PvE only
Effect does not stack from same caster
•PerceptionRadius -0.9 for 20s If target is a player
Effect does not stack from same caster
•ToHit -5% for 40s
Effect does not stack from same caster
•DMG(All Types) -20% for 40s [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]

so two seeker drones, thats base -10% tohit (just from me mind you), and with the purple patch knocking it down by 85% your still at -1.5% tohit, base, and i'm pretty sure i have enough enhancement slotted to hit that 2 - 3% range i'm missing.

The difference between 40% and 45% is the difference between being hit 10% of the time the 5% of the time, or 100% increase in durability, but the difference between 42% and 45% is the difference of 8% and 5%.. or only a 62% increase in durability. And i have enough recharge to stack the drones before the first ones wear off (i/e, that recharge before that 40s debuff drops)

Plus /traps LOVES recharge bonuses. Triple Acid mortars, double triage beacons, multiple poison traps, quad caltrops, etc.

It's a trade off, in order to soft-cap without relying on the protector bots you've pretty much gotta take weave and slot for about 6% more defense in other places (you might be able to do it without weave, but it's going to be expensive). Relying on the bots means you have three extra power choices to play around with which depending on your style can be useful.

Personally I'm happy to rely on my Protector Bots for softcapping, I'm not interested in being able to do things bot-less and in the rare situations where that happens (due to deaths and no time to resummon) I've got enough defense that a single small purple softcaps me for a minute which should be enough to either finish it or get enough breathing room to resummon. In exchange I have have a an extra personal attack (good for generating threat), Repair and Assault (for more damage). Still, to each their own.

|-------------------------------------------------------------------|
Your has:

41.9% lethal/smash def(+7.5% def from Protector bot force shield)
36.9% energy/neg def(+7.5% def from protector bot force shield)
28.5% psi def
39.7% fire/cold def(+7.5% def from protector bot force shield)
46.9% melee def(+7.5% def from protector bot force shield)
45.3% range/AoE def(+7.5% def from protector bot force shield)
17% lethal/smash resistance
1.9% neg resistance
2.72 EPS recovery (1.537EPS after toggles)
213% regen (9.012HP/sec) without triage beacon
502% regen (21.21HP/sec) with triage beacon (perma)
790% regen (33.408HP/sec) with double stack triage beacon (25% of the time)
42.5% global recharge (112.5% global recharge with hasten)
+11.8% tohit from tactics

Your bots have 15.05% def from the FFG, 4.047% def from maneuvers and 15% def from the protector bots, giving a final def value of 34.097% defense, except for your protector bots, which only have 26.597% defense.

Your seeker drones do 5% -tohit each, and with hasten up, you have a 4.24second window of double stacked (without hasten, the drones are not even perma)
Your protector bots seeker drones do 5% -tohit each, and are only up about half the time, due to pets not being affected by recharge of any sort

Your acid mortar does 31.62% -def, -20% resistance, and with hasten up, you have enough recharge to have 2 acid mortars out (between 80% uptime, and 25% uptime depending on hasten cycles) giving a total debuff value of 63.24% -def, and -40% resistance

Your poison trap, with hasten up, is not quite permanent (the -1000% regen debuff only lasts 30 seconds, and your recharge is 29.76, but the cast time is 2.904 meaning there is a lapse of about 2.664 seconds where the debuff drops, and without hasten the downtime is increased to about 10 seconds).

Now, in my build i have
30% lethal/smash/energy/neg def (+12.21% def from protector bots force shield)
27.5% fire/cold/psi def (fire/cold is increased by 12.21% def from protector bots force shield)
28.7% melee/range def (+12.21%def from protector bot force shield)
27.5% AoE def (+12.21%def from protector bot force shield)
46.2% lethal/smashing/energy resistance
4.9% neg resistance
10.6% fire/cold resistance
4.6% toxic/psi resistance
3.63EPS recovery(2.205EPS after toggles)
247% regen(11.23HP/second) Without triage beacon
544% regen(24.68HP/second) with 1 triage beacon(perma)
840% regen(38.13HP/second) with double stacked triage beacon (33% of the time)
87.5% Global recharge (157.5% global recharge with hasten)
+9.682% tohit from tactics

My bots get 15.42% def from the FFG, 3.462 def from maneuvers, 5% def from the Edict of the master +def aura, and 24.42% def from the protector bot force shield, giving a final def value of 48.302% defense, except for my protector bots, which only have 36.092% defense.

My seeker drones do 6.434% -tohit each for 40 seconds, with a 33% chance to do another -7.5% tohit for 10 seconds, and without hasten active, i have a 4.076 seconds of double stacking, hasten brings that time to 11.066 seconds.
My protector bots seeker drones do 7.8% -tohit (5% base * 56% enhancement value gives 7.8%) and are only up about half the time, due to pets being unaffected by recharge of any sort.

My acid mortar does 29.39% -def, -20% resistance, with a 20% chance for an additional -20% resistance (unstackable, but lasts 10 seconds per mortar, so its easily perma) and without hasten i have enough recharge to have 2 acid mortars out about 85% of the time, hasten allows me to have 3 acid mortars out, for about 1 second, which means my total debuff value is 88.17% -def, and -80% resistance (-60% from the 3 mortars, -20% from the proc)

My poison trap, with hasten is made permanent and even double stacked for 1.1 seconds, without hasten my downtime is only 5.34 seconds.

Now, the above is not factoring in the alpha slot, for either build, but I'm pretty sure having just shy of the softcap, (aside from psi def, my lowest def value is 39.71%, with my highest being 42.21%) is more then made up for with higher recovery rates, higher regeneration rates, higher -tohit values (and the ability to perma, and double stack said -tohit values) and higher resistance values to common damage types (lethal/smash/energy are the top 3 most common damage types in the game)

My bots are also softcapped to everything but psi damage, while you bots fall quite short of it. So when they are targeted, which can, and will happen even when spamming provoke as often as possible, your bots are much easier to take out then mine are.

While your build sports more overall defense, which allows you to toss off -def values a little easier then mine (you can be debuffed by about 17.5% -def before you lose your softcap, taking into account your -tohit values, while i can only take about -7.5% -def also considering my -tohit values before losing my softcap) once those attacks actually break your softcap, you are more likely to fall much quicker then my build is.

This is also not accounting for the Panacea +hit/end proc i have slotted, which is basically added regeneration and recovery, nor is it accounting for the fact both our builds sport a +end proc.

Remember, its not a matter of IF you get hit, its a matter of WHEN, and what you do to mitigate that damage once it does hit you.

I don't like broken procs screwing up my math.

The Absolute Amazement Proc never fires in PvE.

I know, which is why i didn't add it in the other numbers (the how much -def debuff can each build take) i just mentioned it cuz i do have it slotted, and am praying it gets fixed sometimes soon.

Ah, I'm in the same boat.... on multiple toons.

Another question guys, is it better to have damage proc's in acid motar and caltrops or go for recharge??

Your better off with the -res proc in acid mortar (and as much recharge as possible) and damage procs in caltrops (and as much recharge as possible)

Arbegla I clearly understand what your trying to get across. I also happen to read the the thread you sent me in a PM, before your PM.

Simply in response to your numbers.

You spent Billions to be able to have a regeneration rate of 3 more points then me without Triage Beacon and 5 more with Triage Beacon.

You spent Billions to be able to have a Recharge Rate that just about allows you to have Acid Mortar up every 27 seconds compared to my 33 seconds.

You mentioned your Procs but you either failed to look or decided not to mention that my Force Feedback +recharge proc has a chance to go off every time a mobs hits my Bonfire. And when it goes off my Proc that I spent 5k on and single slotted in a silly power like Bonfire just beat all that recharge you spent BILLIONS to obtain..

And since I run on a setting of 8 I have many mobs hitting my Bonfire at any given time. End result my 10% chance proc goes off A LOT.

Finally Arbegla you have no attacks.. So there is nothing you can do without your pets solo in a mission. As I mentioned you are completely dependent on your pets for damage.

One simple TF comes to mind Apex TF. I'm sure you read the thread or might have done the TF so no need to explain the situation.

That's how it goes with spending billions. They're almost never worth the price, particularly the ones going for in excess of a billion.

They're the BMW of the CoX world. Any car will get you there, but some do it with more style.

In this case, it was expressed pretty clearly that this was a price is no option build. I think everyone interested in MM's should sticky this thread, as it has several good examples, at different price ranges, on how to slot the AT.
