  1. You don't need to visit the contact to use the respec. The contact just gives you the mission to earn the respec. Once you have it, which apparently you do, you can use it at any time and any place just by typing /respec.

And yeah, doing it on the test server is a very good idea.

BTW, they've already said that influence is called infamy.

Huh. I guess I missed that one. Still, I'm curious about how they get it and what they can spend it on.

    Open Questions

Just for fun, I am going to try to put together a list of questions about CoV which have not been answered. Mostly to help savor the enjoyment of getting the answers once CoV beta starts, but also to give Mr. Recluse an idea of what sort of hints we would like to see dropped when the time for hintdropping arrives. I'm not looking for answers here. There is plenty of speculation on other threads. I'm just looking for questions.

    1. When will it be released? (Can't really be answered until it's actually released, but still deserves to be the #1 question.)

    2. When will beta start? (see above)

    3. What do the new archetypes mean?

    4. What are the powersets?

    5. Are villain origins the same as hero origins?

    6. How will people be able to grief?

    7. How will griefers be dealt with?

    8. If villains can receive missions, what are they like? What are the different types?

    9. Minions: how do you get 'em, what can you do with 'em? What do they look like? How do they act? etc, etc, etc.

    10. What does it mean when they say villains are proactive?

    11. Bases: how do you get 'em, what can you do with 'em? What do they look like? How do you attack/defend them? Do you need to own CoV to get one? etc, etc, etc.

    12. How do you interact with NPC heroes?

    13. How do you interact with non-hero NPC's?

    14. How does CoV overlap with CoH in terms of geography?

    15. PvP: a million questions. When, where, with whom? How do missions and minions enter into it? If you avoid PvP, how much content do you miss out on?

    16. Costumes, etc: What kind of body size and shape options do villains get? Costume options?

    17. Will villains have enhancements like heroes?

    18. Will villains have inspirations like heroes?

    19. Will there be loot?

    20. How do villains gain xp?

    21. Do villains have influence? Or what?

    22. What is the the goal for the villains? Besides leveling up, what are they trying to do?

    23. Will CoV share CoH servers?

    24. What power pools do villains get?

    25. Do PC villains ever go do jail?

    26. Monthly pricing for CoV, and for CoV+CoH?
  4. I was having the same problem. I think it is the red circle, thing, but it's hard to see the circle sometimes, especially when zoomed way out. I'm gald I didn't try this earlier. I used to get horrible lag all the time. I still get enough so that I'm not sure tp is going to be viable for me. Every time I tp away from one pack of mobs, I wind up in another. Still, this guide is great. I would have already given up without the lshift bind and the /camdist suggestion.
  5. Up to 22 pages now? I remember when this thread first appeared. Unfortunately, some of the information from the beginning of the thread is out of date now. Is there any chance someone has or will put all this info up on a website somewhere, so it can be edited as things change?

I'm new to online stuff, so I can't read half of what Zero says

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Me neither
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Your "Hero" and "Zero" remind me of Goofus and Gallant from the Highlights magazine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Me too!
  8. I'd like you to meet two friends of mine: Hero and Zero. Hero is a very nice person. He rescues little old ladies from purse snatchers, he always says please and thank you, and everybody likes him. Zero is a good person, too. He rescues little old ladies. But Zero never says please or thank you. Zero has bad manners. Nobody likes Zero. Nobody wants to team with Zero. This makes him very sad. You don't want to be sad like Zero, do you? No! You want to be happy, like Hero. You want to have good manners. Don't worry. Hero and Zero will help you learn to be courteous, just like Hero.

    1. When asking a complete stranger to drop everything they are doing and spend hours of their life giving you experience points and getting nothing in return, always remember to say please.

Zero: PL meh or u r teh suxxorz!!1!!
    Hero: PL meh PLZ!!!11!

    2. Do not sexually harass female characters, most of whom are played by guys anyhow.

Hero: Would you care to join me for an evening of good deeds and derring do?
Zero: U got hot a$$! U RL a$$ hot??? my [censored] 18" u want suxx it bad yah???!!!11!

    3. Assist other characters only when needed.

Hero: You appear to be losing consciousness! Would you like me to thwart these villains? I will heal you while you think about it.
    Zero: LOLLOLOL!!111 PWNZD!!11 U teh suxxorz!!11! /killsteals

    4. Treat other players with respect.

Hero: Pardon me, but I do believe that ambush was intended for me.
Zero: [censored] little [censored] u ks [censored] i get u pvp kick yur [censored] my lvl 50s!!1111!!!

    5. Be gracious.

Hero: Thank you for your kind gift of level 28 training enhancements. I do not have any need of them, but I will attempt to donate them to a worthy charity.
Zero: U think I'm a trash can? a toilet? keep ur crap offa me!!

    6. Carry your own weight.

Hero: These villains look dangerous, but if you sidekick me I will attempt to vanquish them at your side!
Zero: no SK me [censored]!!1! i want teh uber xp!!1 u go kil. brb

    7. Begging for influence is crass.

Hero: Hmmm, I seem to be just a little short. Oh, and I did so want to buy that lovely SO enhancements. Ah well.
    Zero: gimme $$$. u got lots gimme!!!1 PLZ!!11! else u suxorz i pvp u!!1!

    8. Offer constructive criticism.

Hero: Yes, having four travel powers does sound convenient, but are you sure you don't like ANY of the powers in your primary? Perhaps I can accompany you on the respec trial?
Zero: u teh gimp suxxor!! lol roflmao lolzlolz

    9. Accept criticism graciously

Hero: Yes, I understand that it is mathematically suboptimal, but I happen to rather like the flurry power.
    Zero: [censored] n00b u dont know [censored] i r teh roxxorz i kill boss EZ!!1! FU!11! i pvp u pwnz u bad u gimp!1!!!1!

    10. Always cooperate with your teammates.

Hero: Thank you very much for drawing all the aggro. But perhaps next time you could limit yourself to one group at a time? Although I will certainly do my best to heal you, whatever the odds.
Zero: anchor?! [censored] anchor?! y u rest? my end ok! I go killz! Oops, NEED HEAL HEAL HEAL HEAL [censored] u no heal u suxxorz! [censored] bubble? u healer! ... oh srry, was afk. how u all died? i pull w/ my AoE. why you let me die again! u suxx i quit! lousy xp with u gimp losers!!1!

Let's all be Heroes, not Zeroes!
  9. I lost 8 pounds in just a few days! Hunt Skuls really works! Thank you, Noir!
  10. I have time on my hands. I'll go ahead and rip you apart, Gilfred.

First of all, just because you are happy with something doesn't invalidate someone else's belief that it could be better.

    [ QUOTE ]
I believe there is enough distinction in their shared powers. Controllers secondary's are the same as most of the defenders primaries. We know that primaries are stronger than secondaries and that is enough distinction for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Obviously there are some differences between defenders and controllers. I'm glad that's enough distinction for you. Do you play a defender or a controller? The guy wasn't saying that they were identical, just that he wants them to be more different, and there is nothing wrong with that. Same thing with point 13, about world interaction. Yes, we have some world interaction. The guy wants more. Nothing wrong with that.

Power specialization: of course you can enhance your powers. That isn't what he is talking about. Any AR blaster can choose to add enhancements slots to the sniper power, and can choose what sort of enhancements to use. He was suggesting that people be allowed to strengthen certain skills AT THE EXPENSE of other skills, to an extent not currently possible. Specialization. It's not a bad idea.

    [ QUOTE ]
I like things as far as costumes go now that all pieces are available to all at level one.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Except capes, or haven't you hit level 20 yet?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    9) Alternate character abilities. Something to allow anyone, no matter what their level, to continue to develop their characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We already have that it is called getting experience and leveling your character by chosing slots or powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
*no matter what their level*. You can't level your character past level 50. Though you may not have known that, since I know you haven't hit level 50 yet.

    [ QUOTE ]
I think that the travel powers are fast enough.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well you just keep thinking that. What's the biggest zone you've had to cross? Steel Canyon? You are welcome to your own opinion, but I don't like the implication that no one else is.

    [ QUOTE ]
Bad idea to do this you would have to design space type map

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well then you'll be very sorry to hear that Statesman has already promised to do just that. Not in Issue 4, or anytime soon, but missions in space will happen.

    [ QUOTE ]
Bad idea because it would become an endurance hog

    [/ QUOTE ]
And that makes it a bad idea? Should we eliminate all powers which use too much endurance? Scrappers and tankers can get toggle AoE attacks, and they are heavy on the endurance, and some people still find them worthwhile. Other people don't, and don't take them. Where do you get off calling this a bad idea, especially for such a silly reason?

I admit the property damage idea would be hard to implement zone-wide, but in an instanced mission it could be done, and would be very cool.

Bleh. Maybe I got a little carried away, but I really don't think it's nice to take a perfectly fine list of ideas and just tear it up and throw it out like that. It's not like you even had anything constructive to add.

And in the interest of adding something constructive, I'd like to expound on that property damage idea. Just in the typical office layout, imagine how much fun it would be if every office plant burst into flames when a fireball went off nearby. Picture broken windows, crushed furniture, bullet-riddled walls. That would just be fun. Then imagine bringing a balcony down on someone's head, and then trying to get into the offices which were off the balcony. Or blasting a hole through a staircase, and then trying to find a way up to the second floor. It adds a tactical element. What if powers really interacted logically with the environment, so you couldn't lay a burn patch in a fountain, but if you tried then you wound up with steamy mist? Fun stuff.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
how about "missions that never grow old." Mission level should be set when you walk in the door, not when you get it from the contact.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This would be a disaster. There are plenty of people who can't solo a lot of missions unless they can go up a level first and have the bad guys be a level below them.

    [ QUOTE ]
I've been using only sprint for my travel power since launch for my natural blaster for rping purposes.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Have you considered jetboots?

    [ QUOTE ]
    What is SSOCS?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Super Secret Out of Combat System. Other than that, no one but States really knows for sure. Rumor has it that it's some kind of skill system which allows for additional character customization. There may be some crafting involved as well, but don't expect it to turn into SWG (thank goodness!)

As for my own hopes for issue 4?

    * Something to help me deal with those annoying lost clicky glowy things. The SSOCS might do that, or whatever. Anything.

    * Even more variety in missions, and even more exciting story arcs. They are okay now, but I want more and better!

Otherwise, I really am quite happy.
  12. I was just about to get enervating field, and then I saw in Hero Planner that it can only take endurance, range, and recharge enhancements. Is that true? I was really hoping to use RI mainly for defense and EF for offense, but it looks like I can't increase the effectiveness of EF's res debuff. So how strong in EF without any enhancements?
