Wow. The Devs's released a post i14 patch that sucked? Surprise surprise.
Wait, I've become THAT guy. The guy who is complaining at everything the devs are doing. Either I've gone through a 180 degree personality change or the devs have been doing idiotic things with the handling of i14.
I wonder which it is... -

I've heard rumors of a Dual Pistols blaster, and was thinking how awesome it would be to have a Dual Pistols/Blade melee blaster.

Can you say redraw hell?
[/ QUOTE ]
It would be no less redraw/time consuming than AR/Any other set. Have you played an AR/Devices? -
Another problem you'd end up with is that Pocket D being "fuil" would mean that you cant team with your friends to run Arcs since you all need to enter from the same "zone." Pocket D team with member entering PocketD 2 due to it being full would be SOA.

I can't say why of course, but the inclusion of potentially politically polarizing words (lesbian in this case) can get you squelched in almost any online game community.

Yeah, the same used to be said for the word "negro" too.
Funny how ignorance never dies. -

The Blade Melee would need to be creatively done, complete with shurikens and a "handle butt" stun power since most blaster secondaries have a stun and/or an immobilize. It could also have a "throwing knives" additional ranged attack, a "sword swipe" PBAOE damage/knockback, a more original "sword shield" spinning sword +Def move, etc. The Redraw would suck, but no more so than on an AR/Devices.
You all gotta admit, having a bladed secondary for blasters would be bad arsed. -

Yeah the devs went overboard with the customs. Orginally they were already harder because the use the players damage scale and not the weak scale of the PvE critters. This was good.
Then they not only gave the CC's an WAY overboard ranged attack, but they added A LOT more powers to the "standard" critter powers options. So in essence they way more of a challenge than before even for high level toons. Low level toons HAVE ZERO chance angainst the current custom critters. Brilliant!

/agreed.
Its to the point that I almost feel like between this and what happened with PVP some people need to lose their jobs. If I was supposed to "fix" something at my job and ended up making it less used/less popular/worse more than once, I know I would expect to lose mine.
Especially if I had people on test telling me that that was exactly what was going to happen before I went ahead and did it. With this patch, and from what I understand with the changes to PVP in the last issue, that's exactly what has happened here. -

Like I posted a few pages back, Burning Forest would sometimes fail to spawn some destructable objects, or spawn collection items inside a tree. This made the arc uncompletable, which earned me several bad ratings and complaints. It should not have been released live on that broken state. I assume the other "missing" maps suffered from similar bugs.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that's the larger issue here. I remember a thread about a week before MA was released with them saying that it was "just about ready for release" and people warning in the thread that it was nowhere near ready. At the time, I kind of agreed but thought it was a bit hasty to say "nowhere near."
I now get why everyone was upset, and why companies shouldn't make official release dates for products with major suppliers before they've finished with beta testing. -

Ok. hold on while I go get a calculator.

You really need a calculator to count yourself?
and I thought I was bad at math.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, except the following quotes are just from the last two pages of this thread.
"I already unpublished my stories on both accounts.I'm done with the ma."
"I think the AE is going to drive more people from this game than any other change ever made."
"I've already had one person tonight say he was quitting, closing both his accounts."
" I have to go back and scrutinize the "standard" maps now and try for one with a similar feel, check spawn placments etc.. but after spending 3 weeks on Atd, (and 2 more on SD) I was looking forward to actually playing for awhile instead of doing more authoring. I'm having an attack of OCD however that says "I must fix it NOW!" whenever I log in... and it just disillusions me to think that I may have to go through it all yet again the next time a patch hits."
"some will like the ideas some will hate them but seriously we all have to agree that something has to change or we loose the rest of the game over AE"
"I think I'm going to be waiting until you guys get the MA content more stable before bothering to work with it further."
That doesnt even count the threads in the MA forum by indiviiduals saying the same thing.
I'm one of the most ardent, addicted, CoH loving people in the game. The MA was sooo exciting, and I worked on arcs non stop since it came out. I havent touched it since the patch and saw how damaged all of my work was. I can guarentee I'm not alone as the quotes above show. This was poorly handled, poorly explained (or NOT explained) and now has been poorly responded to.
For the FIRST time since I've heard about it, Im considering trying Champions online when it comes out. I think its later this year. This sounds like a childish rant. but I can guarentee it isn't. Its just that I've now seen how bored I am with the same old 1-50 stuff, and the new MA system which had me thinking I'd found a new source of fun has now lost all of my confidence. Im not putting in hours of work to have it invalidated without so much as a sorry and in a half [censored] fassion when, looking back now, people were complaining about these changes when they were still on test and the Devs frankly ingnored them. -

It's like, EVE. You'll be there focused on maximizing your ISK with missions or whatever, and then one day you wake up and say 'this is boring, I'm just doing the same thing over and over' and never play again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Congratulations! You just described how Im feeling about the entire dev-content side of the game! -
By "broken" here, I only see people refering to the "unplayable" arcs. What about all of the arcs that are "broken" because the changes to powersets suddenly made their custom critters as assininely difficult to defeat as understanding what the hell has kept devs from hiring someone who knows something about "Usability studies and public relations" is to the common player. -

I have one thing to say, and I'm going to shout it as loudly as I can...
GIVE BACK GANG WAR TO LUITENANTS!!! At the very least make it an "extreme" option. As of right now, going from "hard" to "extreme" doesn't change ANY powers on several sets for luitenants. This is...well...stupid.
I know several arcs, including mine, relied on gangwar on some luits. To make these "bosses" to get the same effect would turn what should be a fun "uh oh" instant into a "Quit Task Force" instant.
Fix this.
Not next week. Not in i15. Now. Please. -
Pum, I've played your arc with the sudden room full of gangwars from the Face. That mish rocked.
I hadn't even thought about how this would affect that. Man, that sucks.
What I don't get is that I hadn't come across any powersets in missions that seemed that out of balanced unless the charcter put two idiotic powersets together and left both to extreme (not counting the ninjitsu bug that they knew about on test and still brought to live .) Why did they even make changes at all? The worst parts of it are that the changes were a)retroactive and b) the patch notes don't even fully address the changes so you have to go searching for what was changed.
Honestly, even the PATCH to fix things is being mishandled in this issue. -
I have to say, first and foremost, that I was probably one of The most excited people for the MA in the game. I have a BA and a Masters in writing and I've been addictedly involved in this game since the tail end of the first year of its release. I was THRILLED about it.
I havent created farms. I've made and run story-driven arcs. I love the idea. On test I made a successful four mission arc and copied it over the live server. I've since made five more arcs, on two seperate accounts (mine and my nephews) and spent hours on the damn thing. One of my arcs has 45 ratings and sits at 4 stars, others are around 20 ratings and 4 stars.
Over the last week I've becme more and more disillusioned with the MA. Reason #1 is the inability to get any sort of consistent feedback and always stay at a constant four star rating inspite of every message I recieve saying they loved the arc. That issue I could live with, since some idiots in the game selishly grief, and sometimes people are looking for different things. You can't please everybody, and I recognize that. The Devs were told they needed a better interface while this thing was still on test though, and instead of waiting to release it correctly, they gave us the mess of an interface we have, which results in the issue above.
Today's patch pretty much has left me utterly deflated, however. I mean, ready-to-quit-trying style deflated.
Custom critter changes that make zero sense, applied to arcs that are already published, altering -if not totally negating- important aspects of arcs is simply unacceptable to me. It hit me the hardest in the arc I was working on finishing, which is BASED around luitenants who spawn gang war. Well...that wont happen now. They'd have to be bosses...which won't work either for that storyline. So I wasted about 6 hours time building three missions of an arc that probably needs to get scrapped. Why? Because I assumed that the Dev's product was tested BEFORE launch, and these issues would have been addressed. I could go and work for hours trying to fix all of my arcs, custom critters, replace the now missing maps since this patch, etc. but in all honesty, I feel like its not worth the work since who knows how long it will last before they break it again?
The saddest part is, the AE has actually shown me how BORED I am with running the same content over and over for the past several years. That COULD have been a good thing because there was going to be endless content, but now...well...lets just say that idea is tarnished at the very least.
Before everyone commences with the flaming because I voiced my concerns over today's patch and the MA system as a whole, let me tell you a little about myself. I've played the game for four years. This is my first MMO ever. I have brought two other people into the game over those four years. Ive been in the same SG since I started. Im a member of the largest channel on Justice with regular teams from that channel as well as my SG. This isn't some loser complaining just to complain. IVe been an ardent CoH supporter, but this whole issue, the one I was most excited to see, is leaving a really sour taste in my mouth for the whole game.
I need to say this as loudly and clearly as I can. . I love this game. Period. But Im seriously worried about the way the Dev team is handling the entire implementation of this issue. Im about ready to walk away from the AE, only now, with the full realization of how bored I am with the normal game content in the back of my head. This is surprising to me since I LOVE the Devs overall and really feel like, especially since Paragon Studios went on its own, they made some awesome additions to the game. Im hoping that's simply because they dev team had to balls to do what no other MMO has done, and that's give the kids the keys to the kingdom.
I hope the kids can handle it and the Devs can see it through. -

Wait, what?
Destroyed?
I don't see no smoking craters in the ground.
Oh wait... the EXPLOIT got destroyed. Yeah it blowed up reeeal good, din'nit?
Sorry for your loss, brah. Now suck it up and play, or not, your choice.

That's probably because the map that had them got pulled in this patch without warning. -
Hey its not like this was a half - [censored] patch and people said that before they released it.
Oh wait. it was. And they did.
I mean, giving the exact same powers for "Hard" and "extreme" sort of defeats the purpose, right? -
I would LOVE to see a Pocket D map. I can think of SO many creative uses for it.
I would also love to see an "SG base" style map. Something that would have items typically found in bases. This can be a stock map, but would be a nice addition for missions where you're forced to enter into some other character's base.
Just some suggestions to think about. -
The sad part is, I tried to start a thread on overall culture concerns people are voicing post i14, and it got hijacked by some farmers fearing it was an anti-farming thread and Mod08 came in and shut it down.
So now not can someone direct me to not only the i14 farming discussion thread but ALSO the "effects of i14 on the various aspects of the game culture" thread? -

and started laughing outright at this:

- The existence of so many "Meow-50s" is really bothersome at higher levels as experienced teams must either tutor these inexperienced players, or the inexperienced players can make the difficult, higher level game content even more difficult by making "newbie" mistkes.

Emphasis added to point out what was so funny.

Don't forget "much of the game content requires teaming to complete successfully". I...don't even know where to begin on that one.

Lemme know how that solo STF, RSF, LGTF, ITF, Eden Trial, and the solo Shadow Shard TFs go, k?
You know the funny part is I actually don't MIND farming, and have a farming toon for occassional use, but still see some of the concerns others are pointing out about the effects that MA have had as valid things for the devs to consider. Consolidating them in one post was an attempt to take them out of the "DOOOOMM!!!" category and into the "Ok, how much of this is real and how can we make everyone happy" category. Which is why the initial post asked this this NOT become a debate-based thread, but instead a perception based thread on concerns people have.
Instead we ended up with "quit picking on us farmers cuz w3r leetz and none of your worries are even worth reading noob!!! lolozzzzlzol1111!!!!!1!1!" -

In fact. My biggest concern is actually with the people who claim the market was ruined.
How on earth is low prices the market ruined. Do they not understand basic economics of supply and demand?

Can anyone please point at which point in the initial post anyone mentioned farming in any way, shape, or form?

No one will be civilized because these are the same arguments stemming from the inception of the game. It will never die. It's like a merry go round.
People are getting rewards at a faster and efficient manner, and for others that's a little too fast.
Everyone is so concerned about the "immersion" of the damn game. This is like me telling people to stop smoking because it's bad for everyone, but it can't be stopped. People will still smoke. To each their own. Leave it be. It's their choice. I live in Sin City, and the Casinos are bad for the smoking, but hey, it annoys me that I smell the smoke, but I'm not gonna huff and puff "STOP SMOKING NAO!" when the devs (lawmakers) already made it a bit easier to go into a restaurant or bar without having to worry about smoking. So it got a little nerfed, but not outlawed.
If people want to PL themselves to 50 and they are incompetent at playing them, so what? If you team with them and they don't listen to your advice, so what? Doesn't mean you have to team with them anymore. Rating system is in place for that.
You guys honestly care about the noobs that play this game? If they were willing to learn to play the game in the first place, they wouldn't be involving themselves in farming from the get go. Or, if they did, they'd ask questions as soon as they were in one. Those are the noobs that I want to play with. The ones willing to learn. Those that don't, who cares. If they unsub, good for the community.
So all in all, let the devs worry about the EXPLOITS and stop blaming it soley on the damn farmers. They aren't hurting anything. The EXPLOITERS are, which btw, the devs have already taken care of. Sheesh.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, and if people post forum threads trying to consolidate the overwhelming threads of concerns and it bothers you, you don't HAVE to read the thread or post in it.
You know, Goose, gander, and all that jazz.
