NCSoft is a corporation. One of many. Statistically, corporations make decisions like the one NCSoft did on Friday on a fairly regular basis.
This in no way makes it right. All it does is prove that NCSoft really doesn't care about its NA and EU customers.
Now sure, it's up to NCSoft to sell the license and IP so we can continue playing this game in some form or another...and yes, I hope they do. I've sent a certified letter to the CEO's address as requested on Titan forums. I've signed petitions. Hell, I handed out flyers at PAX this weekend telling of this tragedy and detailing the letter address and site addresses of the petition.
I'm doing what I can, but it doesn't change how I feel. At all.
NCSoft gave us a big middle finger. We need to make it profitable for them to sell the game, then give them the middle finger back by making it succeed where they didn't see it happening. And also by not purchasing any more of their products. I'm not. Any game I see listed on NCSoft's main site is black flagged in my eyes.
As consumers and "the little people"...our ONLY way to make ourselves heard is by affecting what matters most to a corporation. Their bottom line. Money. We can do this, if we stick together about it.
This is not the first time a corporation has done something that has hurt its customer base...and it won't be the last time.....yet. It will take time and effort...but we can change this paradigm. And when enough of us get sick of being treated with more and more injustice from corporations....it WILL change. -
Quote:I'd suggest coming up with a better backstory than 'a game I played was shut down' if you want to be taken seriously in your war on corporate greed.
Quite so. Plenty of evidence out there, too.
Worry not, young padwan. I know people that have been collecting evidence for years. Until recently, I was among those that debunked them. No more.
And....have my words hurt you so much that you wish to tear down this good thing I'm trying to do? Or are you truly offering advice in the best interest of this cause? -
Kitsune...nay. Not revenge....justice.
You seem to think all I'm doing is trying to burn down NCSoft. I'm not. I'm VERY active in trying to save this game. Handwritten letters? Sent to the CEO via certified mail pleading to do whatever is in their power to do to not just abandon the game so many love? Done.
Petitions signed.
Money set aside for any possibility of a kickstart? Done.
But I'm also going to burn down corporate greed. I'll fight it until I draw my last dying, wheezing breath. THAT is what this event did to me. Woke me up. Opened my eyes. Made me hate greed, which is very likely at the root of this event. No solid proof, true. But in my heart I feel strongly it's money. The fact the CEO's of the corporation can't afford their mistresses gold necklaces any more. Or the business trips to massage parlors and the "happy finish". Or any number of other things the wealthy enjoy that the poor do not. And not just any poor....but the poor who ultimately contribute to their wealth. That's US. Even if you don't think you're poor, you are compared to them.
Even the team at Paragon Studios, whom we all love very much....are poor compared to them. Especially now.
That is my grievance. It is my mission. These forums are my starting media point. -
Hell yes, I'm ready.
This weekend, PAX was one block from where I live. I printed up 1000 fliers with the simple message of what NCSoft did on the 31rst.
It also had a plea to boycott NCSoft products. ALL of them.
It also had a short plea to wake up to corporate greed.
Out of those thousand...I'd say perhaps fifty or so people actually wanted to talk on all of the topics and out of those fifty, maybe fifteen actually seemed interested in the corporate greed part. If those fifteen can get fifteen more interested....hell, I'm happy the younger generation is even -considering- it might be true(well..it -is- true, but hey.).
End point is...yes. I'm supporting this game however I can.
Petition? Signed.
Hand written letter to the CEO of NCSoft asking to do whatever they can to avoid closure of this game? Done. And sent via certified mail.
Money set aside for my part of a kickstart effort? Done.
But I'm also going to do everything I can to bring down corporate greed once and for all. This event was a catalyst for that decision.
With my last dying, wheezing breath, I will extol the evils of corporate greed and beg the citizens of this planet to fight it with their utmost efforts.
Please....if you read this and even marginally agree....tell someone else. Only in numbers can we have the strength to accomplish this or any task. -
-
And omigod. End times. thatninja and I agree on something.

Quote:To my understanding it was a Cryptic/Re-licensing the Engine problem.
Cryptic wanted to get rid of the competition, so they raised the price of the license, NCSoft didn't think it would make back the investment.
I think with i24, it totally would have.
Except Cryptic has debunked that rumor.
Ghost Widow was online the very evening of the announcement and debunked it.
THIS IS A RUMOR AND IS FALSE.
Besides, even if it was true....which it's not......it's still not the game's fault itself. -
This gem.

God, I laughed so hard. It was the first thread ever I replied to.
Case in point...I seem to have found the OP's son to argue with. Well....let him argue with me, as I'm done validating his existence. -
Quote:In mercykilling's defense, he doesn't have a 2,500+ post count next to his signature.
Because this is the first time I've felt strongly enough about an issue to not just let it go. NCSoft.....hades. ALL corporations must fall. Or be seriously restructured. There used to be a time where a product or service a company/corp offered sold well because of it's quality. Advertising wasn't a whole department, it was word of mouth. "Hey, Joe. This whatchamajigger made by so-an-so is really a good product. Give it a shot."
That's no longer the case. We're mass media stuffed and fed what to believe, what to buy, how to think...and we lap it up. I was JUST as guilty. This event opened my eyes finally. That's all I'm trying to say. -
Quote:Actually, he's not. If you haven't been paying attention the past 30 years, corporations have made so much money that they have more money than all of the sovereign nation's combined. The biggest economies are not countries, but corporations: They have the most capital out of any nation, even the U.S. and China.
If you haven't been reading any of the news, there is an estimated 4 to 20 trillion, that's right, 20 trillion dollars held up in the Cayman Islands as a result of corporate greed.
There was once a time that corporations gave a damn about their image and would bow to the pressure of their consumers. Nowadays everyone is so damned apathetic they know that they can get away with price gouging and charging way too much money on certain items and that we won't stand up to it. It's people like you who think that everything's okay in the world when it's not. The charger for people's I-Phones for instance is actually worth 2 dollars yet Apple charges 20 some odd dollars for it. And it's okay to pay that and it's okay for apple to have 1 trillion dollars in its coffers, isn't it?
There is too much corporate greed and mercykilling's outrage is my outrage. I'm not just angry at NC Soft, what has incensed me is the greed on NC Soft's part, much like its corporate brothers and sisters, and their disloyalty to a studio that has consistently performed well. The game has made money, just not enough, which is what mercykilling's posts are all about. For corporations, there will never be enough money to be made and it's why capitalism has decimated our economy and we're only in the beginning of it.
One person. One person to see the truth of it all. At first. That's all it takes.
Thank you. And to you...I ask to let as many people as you can know. Time to end corporate greed and take power back from them. Because we -can-. -
Quote:Why do you keep replying to me then? Am I important? Do you like the look of my gams? Are you that much of a shut-in that arguing on the internet and communicating partly through gifs and youtube videos of a dead comedian fulfills enough human interaction that makes you get through to the next day?
1) Y'know...you're right. First time for everything, I guess.
2) No.
3) No.
4) No.
Good day to you. May the gods have mercy on your soul. -

Oi. Following me around, eh? Here. Same reply as in the other thread.

Quote:And a hearty f*u*c*k* you too.You should have seen him in the anime thread right before the announcement. He has serious issues.
It's not shocking at all that he's trying to exploit this event to further his hatred.
Once more you miss the entire point. CORPORATE GREED. Not my outrage, not your ambivalence, not that ninja's stupidity....but the crap that kills people more efficiently than ANY war machine.
One last time. CORPORATE GREED.
Oh...and by the way....*points at sig* -
Quote:Wow, you're quite a character. If Carlin was alive he would call you a ******* moron for getting worked up over a video game.
*just points at sig*
Go home, troll. It's not the fracking game, it's the corporate greed that killed it. And the people I've come to know in this game that are hurt. You just poked THEM too. Ditto with all the other good people in this game that are just as equally hurt by what's been done. Do us all a favor and tie a large rock to your ankle and jump off a bridge. -
Quote:The reason CoH failed was because it didn't rake in enough revenue, meaning it had a low population of players. So if all those players boycotted NCsoft, it wouldn't amount to anything. The only real way to hurt NCsoft financially was to keep CoH running.
Hey, dips*h*i*t......http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lsde7laPkI1qg1qm5.gif -
Quote:Well, it failed to gain any market share in Asia, so it would have dropped down NCSoft's priority list.
That's not the game's fault. That's still NCSoft's fault for not promoting it.
I personally also blame eastern culture and anime's "popularity" for the death of something I love. Hell, half the global channels I listen in on ingame STILL spout effluvia about their favorite anime shows or live action crap adaptations. That part is a culture war. Not entirely NCSoft's part...that falls back onto us, for making it so popular game corporations pander to that market so they can keep making money and go live in forty room mansions while those of us who make that money for them go live in an apartment with forty other people.
Bottom line? Corporate greed killed this. And you lot enabled it. Because I sure as frell hate manga, anime, and the whole eastern cartoon style. Ditto those silly as frack live action shows.
So....in closing....*points at sig* GG....listen to papa Carlin. -
Fact: Guild Wars /is/ an NCSoft product. Here. Advertising doesn't lie. http://us.ncsoft.com/en/
Fact: NCSoft gave Paragon Studios -one day's- notice to clear out. http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/n.../thank_you.php
Fact: If you've purchased and still play /any/ of NCSoft's products you're actively supporting the people that did this.
Fact: I for one, will never buy another NCSoft product again. Don't care if ArenaNet buys it off the company, royalties trickle down. Besides...the one true way to make your voice heard as a consumer to a corporation is to hit them where it hurts. In the wallet.
Fact: If you disagree....*points at signature* Go back to NCSoft and tell them your PR tactics are failing. And tell them to make their peace. All their base are belong to us. We're setting them up the bomb. -
Going to try and end corporate greed.
It killed this game. It'll kill all of you.
The rich will get richer while the poor will get poorer.
If you tow the line, you're one of them...and you're going down.
The world needs an enema. Time to fill the water bottle and bend it over. -
The people.
The people.
The people.
The people.
And the game itself. -
While no official reason has been released...and everything you've heard is merely conjecture and rumor....which Ghost Widow confirmed the NIGHT OF the shutdown...I was there to witness her words...
yes. The reason why is probably monetarily related. Because that's all that really matters to a corporation. If they're not making enough money so the CEO can't bathe in a solid gold tub.....they'll figure out some way to make it so.
Greed. Corportate greed. And because they have the money, they think they have the power. Except not.
How many gamer friends d'you have? Know? How many blogs/tweets/facebook friends can you tell about NCSoft and what it did here?
Then....how much power do you really think that corporation has? We can send a message to other corporations by taking down this one. Don't frell with us.
All it takes is unity.
And if you don't care or aren't upset by this? If you think we -can't- do anything about it? Look at my sig. -
I favor the above ending. We win, but at great cost. It's....fitting to the sorrow some of us feel at losing our digital home.
-
Pretty much feeling that anything NCSoft puts out will never get another red cent from me. Ever. Ditto other platforms/games associated with NCSoft. I plan on hitting them right back, and where it hurts most. Their wallets.
I purchased the Secret World yesterday and played for a couple hours but....it's not CoH. I hate Champion Online's graphics so....not going there. I'll probably just quit the MMO scene altogether and stick to single player games or shift back to consoles. City of was the only reason I OWNED a computer at any rate. Might just reinvest in an XBox or Playstation and TV. At least I know those games aren't going anywhere.
Pretty much feeling betrayed and hurt beyond words. My sig says it all to any who disagree or want to support NCSoft products in the future. -
Dizzy....thank you. For being a friend. For taking the time to answer my noobish questions. For...just being there when I needed someone to be. I'm sad to see this game go, too. And mad as hell at the corporate reasons behind it, whatever they may be.
In my heart of hearts...I know it's all about the mighty dollar, and the closure of this game has incited me to finally join my heart to those that see the truth. That corporations just don't care about the people that make their money simply because there are plenty of others that will work for pennies so CEO's and VP's and boards of directors can live in 40 room mansions while the workers often go home to an apartment crammed with 40 people.
I've met some wonderful people in this game...and you're one of them. Never change. But I implore that you and others open their eyes to the social crimes that go on and -care- about it.
This is the last straw for me. No more. I will rage against the dying of the light until my last breath wheezes out of my lungs.
Dear friend...I will miss this game and the interactions I had in it. While we may still stay in touch...-these- particular interactions are going to be gone. Nevermore will we pound on Freakshow. Or Crey. Or the minions of Cole. We'll never see the Coming Storm. And it makes me cry, two days later. I'll probably shed a tear a year later. That's how much this game and my friends in it mean to me. For what it's worth....*HUG* Be well, Dizzy. May you find fortune and favor wherever you go.
