I've just installed my new NVidia card and I'm having similar problems. Bit of a pain as I've just come back to CoX after a long break...

If you're hurting for space, you may want to switch to actual files, rather than single-line binds - it allows for a few more dynamics (and more detail, like making your henchmen speak at the same time too!)
[/ QUOTE ]
I've sent my binds into a file, and I have a couple of questions.
1. I wanted to say something as I direct my minions to attack. If I was using a bind I would use $$ to seperate the commands, however this doesn't work as I thought. Is it possible to do this in a file?
2. I wanted to have my minion to say a target's name in their speech. Again in a bind I'd use $target but this doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas? -

Would you mind enlightening me then please? It's something I was very conscious of when I first started that defender, feeling I was "being a n00b" by running my heal on Auto centered on the tank most of the time.
I totally appreciate that an empath/dark/rad/fire sat at the back running healing aura with nobody nearby is a pointless waste of endurance, but what really separates them - apart from the personal opinion of "this is actually having an effect".
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that auto healing, and spam healing, isn't really needed. I tend to bind my main heal, whether it's a group or solo heal to the E key. That way it's easy to hit.
/bind e "powexec_name healing power "
The thing with auto healing, unless you have a fast recharge on it, the chances are you'll have just used it when a team mate really needs it.
Also, doesn't it take some of the fun out of it? You'd missed the thrill of watching the team's health bars, and selecting the right moment to heal so that you are most effective.
Obviously, there are times when auto-heal is a good idea, usually with a big critter if your heal has a debuff element. -

I'm still irritated that no matter what I build I always seem to need stamina, its depressing when you're trying to build for fun, you still need to be able to keep up and be efficient and to do that you really have no choice but to take stamina.
Anyway... I digress.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry to digress further, but I think most builds don't need Stamina. I think it depends how you want to run your toon, but I find if I manage my toggles, attack rate and accept that I'll need to rest every so often I'm fine. In fact more than fine, I have 3 more power slots.
I haven't tried Leadership with either of my MMs, admittedly only 12 & 24 so I'm also interested in peoples views on these powers. But I'd probably only use them for a boost not as constant powers. -

But I'd just like for me to be able to take my toons into a PvP zone and have a fair fisticuff type fight with a Stalker the same way I can with all the other archetypes.
[/ QUOTE ]
The thing with Stalkers is - at least with the good ones - they're rarely going to let you get into a position where you can have a "fair fisticuff" fight with them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good post.
I feel the urge to point out that a straight stand up "fair fisticuffs" fight is far from fair on the stalker. -

I finished Uni this morning; so I logged in to all my games to catch up. I went into Siren's Call, there were far more villains than heroes... Fair enough, City of Villains is only 5-6 weeks old; people still want to play villains.
I scraped a team together of 7 heroes; and in the past half hour I have been one-shotted around 10 times by stalkers whos only 'tactic' is to stealth so they can't be attacked - then one-shot me.
Does anyone else think this is HIDEOUSLY inbalanced?
Fair enough, I'm a defender; so a stalker should take of a fair proportion of my hit points - but the villains ENTIRE engagement in the fight were having stalkers use Assasin's Strike on me and the controller.
I don't care if I'm great at PvP; all I'm asking for is a FAIR fight. I can tank a GM - so why can an EVEN level villain be unable to be hit; then kill me in one shot?
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't finished reading this thread, but I recall when starting my stalker and finally getting into Bloody Bay. I found alone controller and I couldn't resist. Okay, I can't recall if it was one or two shots that killed him. However, when I went around a corner he must have used the awaken and break free combo as a couple of minutes later he had me Held. Then Held me some more, then a bit more and I watched my Health drop away. Funniest thing I'd seen for ages.
My point, my build as it was could kill a controller with no defence but conversly he could hold me to death and I had no defence. If I'd had the right insp I could have been free and running, but that's true of using yellow insp and spotting stalkers. -
It just struck me that way. The first group, are protrayed as being vocal and not caring about the legitimate views of the other players, and I read it as you implying they views weren't valid. On the other hand, the second group do have valid opinions.
Nothing major, which was why I described it a tad biased.
I actually view myself more as a roleplayer than a PvP, but more of the tabletop kind. Mainly because the game isn't set up for roleplaying, and I wouldn't know how they could make it so. However, I found this conversation quite interesting. The biggest problem I see is that the zones are set up for PvP, so unless the system changes quite drastically they should be able to target who they want. Obviously there are exceptions, but they apply to PvE just as much, mainly ruining the fun of other players. The reality is, and ignoring the 'forced into the zone' arguement, it is a PvP zone and by going in you are accepting the ground rules for the zone.
Personally, there are bits I don't like. Namely tping or attacking people in the 'safe zones'. But to get around that would require some changes to the system. My preference would be that you can't generally target or damage someone in a safe zone, however to stop people hitting and running back, I think there should be a time frame that you could still be targetted on being entering the safe zone. The inverse of the countdown for entering the zone.
I also think that there should be a 'roleplay' PvP zone, but the only way I could see that working is you challenging the other person or having a flag you switch on that says you are open for PvP.
The question I'd be asking myself if I was the Dev, is how popular is the RP element. I know some of the more vocal (both in the good and bad sense of the word) forum users are into RP, it'd be interesting to see how many 'normal' players would be interested in such a thing.
As an aside, I would have thought the Arenas would have given you something like that, but I wouldn't know if they met your requirements or not. However, it'd be hard for potential new RPers to drop by.
Just some end of the day ramblings, and not meant ot be offensive, so hopefully they're not. -
[ QUOTE ]
There are two kinds of people currently becoming extremely vocal.
The kind who love PvP and don't care how others feel about it, or about being killed repeatedly, the kind whose response to many (if not all) PvP complaints is "tough, I see you in a PvP zone, you're dead", regardless of whether or not the concerns are legitimate.
The other is the "I'm being forced to PvP, I didn;t buy a PvP game! Why can't you all just leave me alone?" type, who, while their personal opinion of PvP is valid, don't seem to be able or willing to construct a decent argument to back up any of their concerns.

I haven't finished this thread yet, but interesting descriptions here. Interesting, but possibly a tad biased?
I'll get on with the rest of the thread now. -

and please hero/villains turn on the hero/villain chat option in options
[/ QUOTE ]
I think this should be the first thing you do, before entering the PvP zone.If you can exchange a few words with the 'enemy' I think it makes it more personal, and less likely for either party to take it to serious. Unless you shout abue at them.
But as QiSnake and Stalk_obot said, go in with a fun attitude and just enjoy it. -
Thanks for responding, I thought that was the case but thought I'd just check in case I was missing something really obvious.

Quick Question: Does anyone know if there is a defend target command?

I hadn't thought of that. Falling damage doesn't unhide you so why should lava......
[/ QUOTE ]
Well possibly they might spot the hero shaped hole in the lava? Or the trail of lava you leave when you get out?

...or hear you scream as you hit red hot molten rock? -
I agree, they're good at both.
I heard a lot of people mention the damage I was doing when I used AS, and saw the body fall as well. However, in most of the teams, I realised it was mainly the stalkers that rushing of to hospital.

One warning (IMHO): Stalkers are a PvP AT. They solo badly and don't team well. Expect slow progress.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll jump on the band wagon here and disagree.
I'm enjoying playing my stalker, both in teams and solo. Yes they may be good at PvP, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm assuming you have, even though it's evident in a lot of your post that you have a strong dislike of PvP, so I'll take your word for it.
