The only workable solution is for there to be an option with two values: decline or accept all friendly buffs. A popup dialog for all buffs is simply not a viable option.

Another possibility would be another option to reject all non-team buffs. That way you could stop hit-and-run spammers without affecting team play.
You made a good point. Another solution is for players to have a blacklist of buffs they do not want to accept. Kinda like an ignore list for types of buff people want to avoid. But I don't know if this is big enough an issue to warrant the storage required to do this. Just an idea.

Actually, wasn't there talks about the ability to delete buffs at Herocon? Whatever came of that? I know... in the case of mystic fortune, it would allow players to pick and choose which random buff they would keep. You can remedy that by leaving an undeleteable (yes, it's not a word, but you get the idea) buff that prevents more mystic fortunes to be cast on the player for 20 minutes. But I think it's another solution to consider.

We'll be attempting our first evacless raid in a month or two. We're looking to work down that raid time to about half an hour. ^_^

    Mids' Update

They're running into some issues, so it might be the standard 2 weeks after i17.
    ^
    Scratch that. Problem solved.

Now they're shooting for a Wednesday release as i17 comes out.

Sounds good. I'll try to get a hold of you tomorrow (Sunday).
  10. More badges in some zones.
  11. I am willing to pay a negotiable amount of influence (or infamy) for someone to get all the TP beacon for my newly formed hero SG before i17 hits Wednesday. Currently have 2 of the easy ones already (PI and Eden). The amount is negotiable. If interested, post here or PM me. Thanks.
  12. You know, I noticed that in the other thread regarding raids that my name is the only one to come up when talking about raid leaders. That needs to change because there are many that make up this leadership and I feel that every single one of them needs to be recognized. So here they are (not in any particular order):

T: Scrapper Team Leader (Hero)/Spike Team Leader (Villain)/Adviser
Rollo/Huron: Secondary Brute Team Leader (Villain)/Controller Team Leader (Hero)/Adviser
Sooner: Primary Targeter (Hero)/Secondary Pet Stream Leader (Villain)
Vega: Primary Pet Stream Leader (Villain)/Brings whatever is needed (Hero)
Elric: Secondary Targeter/Controller+Dom Team Leader/The one we blame everything on
BlazingTiger: Evac Coordinator/Brings whatever is needed

Also would like to thanks Sam and ArachnosCommander for showing whenever possible and filling any gap we may have.
And Woeful Knight for stepping up to lead the heroside spike team.
And Sandolphan of Virtue for taking the time to stop by Protector and spot some of the problems we had in our early raid attempts.

Some of these guys have been at every single raid in the 2 years that we've been doing this, not to mention sticking around for the 3-5 hour raids we used to have (ugh). Thanks for sticking with it even during the times when you think I'm out of my mind. And thanks for making the raid scene possible despite our low server population. Remind me if I missed anybody and I'll discretely edit them in.

Who knows, maybe we could have reinvigorated the Redside, too. I apparently bit off more than I could chew on such a thing, and I'm sorry for ticking so many people off with my attempt.

I guess I'll drop it, then.
We WERE planning to set a villain raid for May 1st. But the announcement that Issue 17 is coming on April 28th kinda shot that idea down. We'll set one up in the near future, time/date TBA.

I'm being so critical of the "Getting the word out" issue because I'm in the same boat that others have mentioned, I usually don't know about a raid until just before it's going to happen (and I DO visit the forums regularly). This last one, I was barely able to prepare in time.

I'm also sore about how "We got the word out" was "spamming channels as the raid was starting." Suddenly, I'm seeing "We tried everything we could, then after some debate, we decided to forego the Redside Hamidon..."

    ...

I don't remember this debate, and I play fairly regularly. Heck, this thread is the FIRST we've ever started talking about it, and it's happening AFTER a decision was made to abandon it (which has inspired a new lively debate). I didn't hear anything about it until this past Sunday, where the news was passed by people who may not be exactly "in charge," but they sure as Hell are listened to very closely.
I have to ask those of you that don't find Hamidon fun... Thank you for pointing out that some people don't find it fun. So why read/participate in this thread? One of the strengths of this game is that there's a bit of something for everybody. Some people like to change their costume every day, some people enjoy watching their base expand into an elaborate network of rooms and corridors. Do you see people going into base building threads or role playing threads and start thread crapping? We know there are people who won't go to raids. We're also seeing that there are some who do. They could be there because it's fun for them. They could be there hoping for ribosomes or microfilaments so they can turn around and sell them on the market. Or maybe, just maybe they're there to support the community.

And Grey: You don't have to be a part of a debate for it to have happened. As Vega pointed out, this isn't the first time we've had this discussion on the forums. And even before that, there's been discussions within the core leadership group about how to cope with the attendance issue. The consensus is for us to hold off on villain raids until we can find a solution, in the meantime, focus on what we CAN do, and that is to keep the hero raids coming. Since this thread started, I've seen nothing but criticism from you with phrases such as... "chosen few" and "The wheat is starting to rot..." And then there's the assertion about the MOTD of a channel you've never been in and the assertion that this is the first time this topic is being discussed. If you have a problem with me or any member of the raid leadership, please bring it up with me and/or the person in question, be it here, in tells, in PMs, to give us an opportunity to resolve it.

I would like to ask everyone at this point to keep their criticisms constructive and informed. Vega brought up a problem and we're working together to find a solution, preferably without flame or drama. Thank you.

Some servers can do the hami raid in 20 minutes from spawn. I would like to see that for Protector. But I can't just snap my finger and make it happen. Right now, our raids are hovering at 1 hour and change from spawn. This still beats most people's STFs provided everyone shows up on time. If an hour's still too long, help us work it down by participating. Yeah, it's one big game of prisoners' dilemma.

But if you mean the possibility of getting debt when you say risk vs reward, I don't have much of a rebuttal for that because I'm never concerned about debt at any level, much less at 45+.

The wheat is starting to rot. I think it would be worth it to sift through the chaff to find a fresh crop.
    Anyone care to translate?
  17. Also, let me point out that I have led EVERY SINGLE villain Hami raid (the couple raids Dirtwolf was in on, I led those too, actually) on Protector since its conception. We stopped doing it because we've exhausted every avenue of getting people into the Abyss only to fall short of the requirement to start more times than I'd care to count. So yes, something is obviously not working.
You want this to be the community you remember? Well, get off your criticizing butt and start pitching in to help. Yes, we need help. Yes we want your help. May 1st marks the 2 year anniversary of issue 9. Surely if someone truly wanted to lead a villain raid on Protector, they would had gathered the knowledge and resource to do so by now. Not gonna draw any conclusions. But all I have to say is really this: my group and I have done everything we can by ourselves. We know there're more players out there. Our methods of advertising so far have proven to be inadequate. We need more people to spread the word. Just spread the fraking word! That is all.
  18. Since when is Grey in the RSF Regulars? >_>

Protector's considered the "small town" server, and lately we're adhering to the worst elements of that mentality for some odd reason. We treat newcomers like outsiders, we follow the lead of only a select few people... It's time we changed that. It's time we get back to being the friendly server I fell in love with.
I would love it if someone who knows what they're doing would step up to lead raids. Hell, if someone would just like to lead at some point down the line, I'd be more than happy to train them to become a raid leader. It would take the load off of my group. But as the New Year's Eve incident has demonstrated, this isn't something you want to dive into head first. Training and preparation is needed for it to be successful.

Nobody KNOWS about this stuff! This is what the NPWN and Praesidium (R.I.P.) were MEANT FOR, but everybody gets the wrong ideas about them. They weren't meant to be handouts or "elitist," they were meant to help encourage teamwork and educate players about the game because, let's face it, the game's in-system education is sorely lacking and players seem to dislike going to third-party sources like Paragonwiki because of the stigma that third-party information probably isn't correct information (though Paragonwiki is a GREAT source of information).

    Now, for the question...

YES! There's a Villain Hamidon, a monster sitting in the middle of a giant pit below sea level. For those of you familiar with the Lady Grey TF, THIS is the Hamidon in the LGTF. Or rather, it's a bigger, tougher version of the LGTF Hamidon.

You can locate the Villain Hamidon's location, The Abyss, in Grandville, near the Ferry. There's also access to the Peregrine Island Monster Islands (a special instanced version, not connected to the normal Monster Islands) on the other side of Grandville, not near the Network, but on the north side of the main island of Grandville.
If you're offering to help us advertise whenever there are raids hero or villain. I think I can speak for the entire group of raid leaders when I say that we'd welcome any help we can get on the matter.

That's a lot of players on the server who aren't getting the message.
Know any good channels to advertise? I'm a little sick of spamming /tell $target, Hami raiding forming on search every raid just to get enough people in.
  22. That was a great raid, everyone. Hope to have a repeat performance next week.
  23. From what I've seen, the issue at hand is relatively simple. Someone believed he/she was kicked wrongfully by an op. Based on that one action of that one op, some others are attempting a PR campaign against all the ops of the channel by blowing the entire scenario out of proportion. If there's a grievance, this certainly isn't the proper place to bring it up. Bring it up here, and we're gonna see it as drama. There's but a brief set of rules for VU from its conception. It is based on the opinion that everyone should try their best to show good judgment when conducting themselves.

Did Makai exhibit good judgment when making that comment about ERPVP? That's questionable. Were there any subsequent comments that contributed to kick? I do not know at this point. Let me be clear that I am not making any accusation. I believe that the op in question who kicked Makai at least made an effort to show good judgment. This of course could had been clouded by a number of factors (late night/fatigue, the ERPVP conversation getting out of hand too quickly, possible bias toward involved parties - I'm not saying there is as I'm just throwing it out there). As I've said before, we're not perfect. We're just doing what we can.

So here's my request. If anyone has a chat log of the incident in question, please forward it to me. I don't mind if my PM box gets filled. Logs from multiple sources would ensure that I have a complete and unedited version of the event. I plan on reviewing this so I can draw my own conclusions with as little external painting of the event as possible. At that point, I intend to bring this to Kegan with a set of recommendations and to share my findings with the public. In the meantime, I ask that Commander, Makai, and all other participants to minimize their contribution to this thread so we can resolve this with as little drama as possible. The less posting we see in this thread from this point on, the better. Just send me logs of the event.
