Oooer, using Vista here, unhandled exeption after unhandled exeption, won't boot up. this is from opening the program and letting it update itself.

Do NOT use auto update. Go to their site and download the new installer. It will then tell you that an update is available, click no. And go to config and turn off auto check for update.

i get an error as soon as i click run after dling it error cant open file

If you downloaded the update last night, like I did, then tried to install it this morning, it won't work. It'll keep saying there's a new update available. The file was for version 1.62 but installed an older, incorrect version.
Redownload the file they have up there now, it's 1.621 IIRC, and that'll install the proper version. Though I've heard that there're problems with DP and slotting in Mids.

I just deleted it and downloaded it fresh and new and shiny.
Vista here. I uninstalled the old version and tried to get the new one. It comes up with an error every time it tries to install a file.
Edit: Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I forgot to run the thing as an admin.

EDIT: Found the fix. I owe it to being forced by a certain vendor of photo editing software to fix a product they wouldn't provide tech support for when their DRM scheme broke. So, hats off to the tech support person I cursed out last month for that company's epic endorsement of every reason people choose to pirate software instead of purchase it.
Anyway, for me the problem was Vista wants to install to this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\
But that doesn't work with some older programs. When I removed the parentheses around the x86 it installs fine.
BTW this fix also fixes the problems with a product whose initials are CS2 if you ever have to reinstall it after changing operating systems.
Anyone know if/when an update for Issue 17 and Demon Summoning will arrive?

They're running into some issues, so it might be the standard 2 weeks after i17.
