Quote:If anyone can't spot and dodge a patch at 10 feet elevation they're doing it wrong.Seriously, if any 'flyers' are flying and hovering with their feet grazing the heads of the foes below, then they're doin' it wrong. Just move to the distance of your shortest ranged attack and it will be fine.
See what I did there?
Either method works fine. It's the middling distances that tend to get things very muddled. Another thing to be weary of is your distance from the target vs distance from the ground. Forty feet directly above the target is fine, but if you're firing at an angle you're no longer a clear distance from the ground. If you're using the shortest range attacks (Blaze, Power Burst, etc.) make sure you're directly above the target. -
I find hovering just above melee range works best. Anyone that has their camera zoomed out (which is very helpful in the BM battle) will still be able to see and avoid the patch. A combination of flying high, but not high enough, and zoomed in cameras probably contribute to a lot of deaths.

Quote:Flying for the first time was very cool. In fact, as soon as I could get Hover I started chasing down the Atlas blimp.I still remember the first play session. I picked Protector because it was the top of the list and after the Tutorial, I dropped in Atlas Park. The fanfare music, the crowd of people (I guess I was fortunate Protector was crowded that day). I saw a character standing near me just take off and fly and I was like, "Wow!". I was such a noob, I missed the message about training and went right to City Hall and took missions. I think I was level 4 or 5 before I ever actually trained the first time.

I wasn't engrossed by the game at first probably because my first character was a grav/kin controller. It was very rough going. I remember fighting some Igneous and getting absolutely creamed. On top of that, my costume was pretty crappy.

Quote:There has been one usage of the term hate in this thread prior to your post. While a strong statement of one's opinion, it is far from the "tantrum" that you imply. The statement "Oh, I hate chocolate" is a strong statement of taste, but hardly uncivil. Asking someone why they're throwing a tantrum after making the statement does seem a bit that way.
No, it has not been civil. "I hate the Lore pets" is not the point of what you want to discuss and yet you let that go. There's a real blind spot of incivility when people feel they can piss on any thread about their personal peeve. I call them on it. Just like you believe you're calling me out on bad behavior. The only difference is, they started it. Why didn't you call them out on it?
As for the particular tangent taken in regards to the Lore slot, part of the homogeneity that we would like to avoid is the visual aspect of our powers. Power customization was so highly demanded and worth the effort because many of us are concerned not only with how powers behave, but also how they appear. Unique game play is important, but as evidenced by both past player demand and developer efforts, so are appearances in this game. -
You can summon a new set of PA while the previous set is active. However, when a new set is activated the old set is immediately dismissed and there is a slight delay before each Phantom appears so there will be a small gap between the previous set disappearing and the first new Phantom appearing. I'm not sure where Je_saist's impression that you cannot activate PA while PA is active is coming from.

I think you hit the nail on the head in another thread. Tying powers so directly to lore, a la PPP's, is not an idea that sits well with players. Full customization of these pets is probably beyond the scope of current development, but I would gladly embrace more general concepts.

Quote:I think this is being raised by far more people than the solo-ist issue, rather than just a few fervent posters. There aren't any staunch advocates of the anti-Lore sentiment. Of course, as things progress, I'm sure we'll see it arise as a sticking point for some people.2. Is "I hate Lore pets!" going to be the new tantrum that derails all Incarnate discussions like "I must have a solo-only path!"
At any rate, I think it's worthwhile for the devs to note that people don't like being tied so directly to Praetorian lore. I'll throw my voice in as another dissenter. Even if powers are somewhat homogenized, how we present and view our characters has not been. That is one of CoX's strengths and something important to bear in mind with further development. -

Hmm, a thread here and on the dominator boards (linky) on how to improve Gravity, specifically how to improve Dimension Shift...
C'mon devs, throw Grav a bone finally. -
My problem with Praetorians is that they suffer from "guy with a gun" syndrome. Aside from the AV's and robots (which we've been presented with as the Praetorian rumbas), we just facing off against more guys with guns. To me, that's quite boring visually and thematically. I suppose it's true of a lot of mobs in CoX: the Fifth, Council, Malta, Praetorians. They have extraordinary weapons, I suppose, but they're just ordinary people.
I personally enjoy the mobs whose appearance matches their threat. Rularuu, though they have only a few variations in their ranks, look and feel very threatening. -
Quote:Sounds like we have a winner here. Three breath attacks and you can keep the shield charge/jump combo. On top of fitting the theme, it doesn't sound too shabby from a gaming perspective.keep leveling and grab leviathan mastery PPP. Has 2 breath attacks for brutes/tankers. Plus you can throw a shark/multiple sharks at things. Or if you switch to fire/shield you can have fire breath (primary) cold breath (leviathan pool) and posion breath (also leviathan) so you can have more variation with your deadly breath attacks.

Quote:Just an aside before I make any recommendations, but alignments have really made acquiring the nicest trinkets much easier. I've pretty much given up radios as filler and replaced it with hero merits. After a while you'll accumulate enough merits for all the LotG's, Miracles, etc. and you can do it at your own pace. The short version: using basics, come up with a decent playable spec for illusion/forcefield. I don't plan on investing in a full IO build but if you must keep it cheap, like under 100mil cheap. Thanks for anything you want to throw out there in advance.
When I play FF, I focus on either capping out my own defense or capping the teams. An Ill/FF can cap allies easily on just regular IO's with the right selection of powers. Power Boost is vital in this as it will let you provide 30% defense from your ally shields. Maneuvers, Group Invisibility, and Dispersion Bubble will provide another 17% defense for your team. Because FF needs so few powers to achieve this you can even pick up Aid Other and Aid Self for some spot healing for the damage that slips through. After that, I'd focus on recharge bonuses to improve PA's uptime.
After that, it's a matter of who you play with. Start a team, grab a bunch of squishies, and make them untouchable. If you wait for a team and end up with a bunch of softcapped tanks, brutes, scrappers or VEATs then you may not feel as worthwhile. It doesn't hurt to build a team to suit your play style. -
Quote:I believe it was stated that MLP didn't fit into the context of Comics and Hero Culture (even though it's filled with fun fantasy stuff like basilisks, hydras, and dragons). It wasn't an outright ban. Besides, this is a discussion of Mod05's desktop, posted via the CoH facebook profile, and gives us insight into daily life of the Paragon offices.Mod 05 already said that My Little Pony stuff was a banned topic on the boards, even if it was about a comic about My Little Pony.
So what's up with this thread not being heavily moderated? Can we please get some consistency?
So relax... this isn't a pony thread. There's talk of burger joints, Kamen rider, and just getting a feel for the people behind the game. -
This is my face at the end of every episdoe of Madoka: 0_o My friend that doesn't watch anime is even hooked on it.
-
Mind or Plant dom will do it in one shot since they only have boss level protection. A mind troller can get most of them fairly quickly alone.
-
I think Mod5 and I could be total bros. The pokemon, the ponies (with prominent placement for Rarity), the love of CoH...
-
Everyone goes back to crappy pre-inherent-Stamina days until level 11 so Regen can feel special? No, thanks.

Quote:Sorry chum, it's Arctic. A common spelling error though.Love the pack although I have very little need for a lot of the animal themed parts, the Beast run is worth it on its own hehe.
However I did notice a spelling mistake - the 'Arctic Wolf' head is spelt ARTIC Wolf surprised that one slipped through QA -
No thanks. This task force is so terrible I won't do it anymore than once per character for the accolade. Who thought socking a bunch of gray-conning enemies in the face was a good idea?

Quote:Then make it like Repel from Kinetics, for each target it affects it'll knock of a tick of endurance that can't be reduced, making it difficult to maintain throughout a fight. Inconvenience of activating powers, a heavy endurance cost, and low ceilings all stand in the way of it being meaningful mitigation. If the entire team could fly through every mission and take pot shots and grounded npcs then the risk vs reward changes. Sure you can probably -def excessively and increase to hit but I think it awkward. I think there are some powers that you have to be grounded to use tie in perhaps with what the Devs don't or didn't want you to be able to do too.

It shall be dubbed the "Walking on Sunshine Challenge".

Quote:I absolutely love this suggestion. I've read many suggestion on how to fix Dimension Shift, but I think this is by far the best.Dimension Shift(and Blackhole in Dark Miasma)
Convert it from a Target AoE into a Location AoE patch such as Quicksand or Tar Patch. Have it tick a short duration phase, say 0.75slong, every 0.5s, which affects BOTH enemies AND allies within it's radius (but only immobilizes foes) so that if you don't want to deal with them right away you just stay out of the phase and it works just like it does now, but if you WANT to interact with the mobs you can enter the phase field and attack them like normal. If it proves a bit too much heat for you, you can just get out of the patch and be safe from the phased mobs.
Since the immobilize doesn't protect from knockback or teleport, an ally could also go into the phase field, target a phased mob and then KB/TP/Worhole them out of the field to be dealt with individually. Or on the flip side, if you don't manage to get all the mobs in the field when you first cast it, you can KB/TP/Wormhole them into the field after it's set up.
Also rename it Dimensional Breach or Dimensional Rift, since Dimension Shift is more of an Action, while the power's now more of a Thing.
Quote:I know that it works like that in PvP (Phased players can attack Phased players) and while I don't know if that works in PvE (aside from Hamidon), one would think it could be applied there easily enough. (Standard code rant applies.)
Quote:Hm. Good point. I wonder, though, if there's a way to make a 'unresistable' phase that can apply even to phased targets? This, if possible, would make a toggle workable. The only issue is that it runs to the issue of bypassing the few eneemies that are supposed to be phase resistant, which could be termed an exploit. Also, phase enhancements would not longer be needed. (Even in a 'normal' toggle they add mag, but an 'unresistable' thing, if it would work, would make this moot.)
Also, intangible enhancements now do nothing. They only affect the Intangible portion of Dimension Shift which only removes hit box detection and applies a translucent effect; the real work of the power is done by applying the phase status. You can, for example, Dimension Shift the Kraken and it will be phased though there will be no visual indicator of its changed status.
Anyway, for the power to work as Oathbound suggested there's a very simple solution: spawn two pseudo-pets, one phased and one unphased. The unphased pet will do the work of phasing players and enemies that enter the area while the phased pet will maintain their phase status after the initial phasing. -
A friend showed me his fire/ice blaster's build: six-slotted every primary power, no more than 2 slots to any secondary power, 6-slotted Hasten, and 3 slots each for hurdle and swift.
I'd offer him some advise, but he's overly sensitive about being corrected.
