Quote:I think you mean GTS 250. There's no GTX 250.So the NVidia GTX250 should be able to run in Ultra Mode at a decent resolution? Does anyone have recommendations as to specific graphics settings for this card?
Also: recommended specs: put all Ultra Settings on low if you want 1680*1050.
Also: as a note, the backing processor is a Socket AM2 Dual Core A64 @ 3ghz.Quote:Here's the settings that a single Geforce GTS 250 is most comfortable at across most of the game in 1680*1050. Shadows and Reflections set to Low, Water Set to High, and balanced Ambient Occlusion: -
Quote:point...Single core, I'm not.
Also speed is kind of strange. A64 used a 200MHz base clock that got multiplied up even way back on the old Socket 754.
Trick, maybe you should start a thread up over on the Tech Board with a CoHHelper output, maybe people can provide a few suggestions.
I also need to change my font. I read that as a 1.80 ghz mistype... -

OpenGL versus DirectX
First, I'm calling B.S. on that. The GTX 260 would NEED to come with a free game and movie because it's a Freaking Rip OffQuote:Just from doing a quick review comparison on the 5770 and the GTX260 for games like Crysis, Just Cause2, Fallout, it seems like the 5770 falls a tad short to the 260.
The 260 also comes with a free game and movie.
That being said: which one? I just clicked through all of the GTX 260's I linked earlier from PriceWatch, and not a single one claims it comes with a "free movie" or a "Free game" :: Of the 3 "new" GTX 260's Newegg lists, again, none come with a "free movie" or a "Free game"
So, either show me where you get a "free movie" or a "free game" with a GTX 260, and I mean something that's actually worth more than $5 from the used section at Fry's.
Okay, with that little distraction out of the way, one of the base problems here is that comparing the GTX 200 series to the HD 5000 series is comparing Apple's and Oranges.
First, there are two different models of the GTX 260. There's the base 260 and the Core-216 260. You'll also find that most of the 260's being sold today are branded "Superclocked" to indicate a factory overclock.
Second, there is another major problem with comparing the cards:
HD 5000 series supports DirectX 11 / OpenGL 4.0
GTX 200 series... does not
That's a pretty major feature shift that does result in better in-game image quality; so you really need to look at games that support DX11 / OpenGL 4.0. Given that no commercially released game yet supports OpenGL 4.0, that's a bit of an unfair comparison. Unigine DOES support OpenGL 4.0, but the Heaven Benchmark isn't really a live-game test. However, several games on the market already feature DX11 support a: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ctX_11_support
So, you need to take a look at these games instead
Dirt 2: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/...ce_iq_preview/
Metro 2033: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid..._11.html#sect0 :: http://hardocp.com/article/2010/04/0...performance_iq :: http://hardocp.com/article/2010/04/0...performance_iq
You might notice that the GTX 260 is MISSING from these games because... oh yeah... it can't do DirectX 11 or OpenGL 4.0
Now, if you've already GOT a RadeonHD 4870, 4890, or a Geforce GTS 250, or a Geforce GTX 260, a RadeonHD 5770 isn't going to bring anything new except it's DX 11 / OpenGL 4.0 support.
If you are buying new to have, why on earth would you want a card that costs more and has less features?
The RadeonHD 4890 is one thing. "SuperClocked" editions can punch out GTX 285's. Most of the ones available now still have excellent overclocking potential, so even if you couldn't find a factory overclocked version (and I'll admit I haven't seen any for a while), chances are you can still overclock the living daylights out of a stock card.
If you have $200 to spend and don't care about DX 11 / OpenGL 4.0 support, the GTX 260 is STILL an awful buy compared to the RadeonHD 4890's that are left on the market. -
Quote:Well, the FSAA + AO conflict has been fixed on AMD's OpenGL 3.x series of cards, so RadeonHD 2000, 3000, and 4000 series cards should be able to run the two together. Is Occlusion on low, or are you saying you went with FSAA instead of Occlusion? I like the effect, and I'm hoping the conflict gets fixed. I haven't been keeping tabs on it. lol
The conflict has not yet been addressed on the OpenGL 4.0 cards (the 5000 series), as the implementation of AA is... different... Well, new architecture, new ways of doing things. So, yes, it was supposed to be implied that the performance figures were given without AO. I also directly stated sans AO when covering UltraMode options. Some people like AO, some people don't... -
Quote:question: have you bypassed that Belkin router and connected straight to your modem?Yes, and yes. No difference. The occasional (one of ten? one in fifteen? I've not been keeping an accurate count) zone changes and I disconnect. Most zone changes take minutes to be passed between zones (no-progress-bar screen to progress-bar screen) with the occasional faster exception.

Quote:A quick look at Price Watch shows that GTX 260's are around the $200 mark: http://www.pricewatch.com/search?q=GTX+260Pretty nicely, I would think?
Maybe not with EVERYthing on max...
But if I were you, and looking to spend around the same amount of money (or even a little less), I would get a Radeon 5770 instead of the GTX 260. The performance is comparable, but the 5770 supports DirectX 11 and costs a bit less. Or, for a little bit more, you could get a Radeon 5830 and even better performance. It all depends on how much you want to spend.
Are there any other games besides CoH you'd like to be playing on this system?
Radeon HD 5770 is around the $160 mark: http://www.pricewatch.com/search?q=R...5770&gallery=1
That's not a "little" less. That is a LOT less. Also, the 5770 can drive Ultra Mode all details (sans Ambient Occlusion) maxed in 1920*1200 with in-game 8x AA. -

*pads in*
Well, it took a lot of work, but I secured the "Becky Videos" from the NinjaKittenFairy vault. 10 Blu-Ray discs with... compromising footage. There will, of course, be an auction for the discs: bids will be accepted in American Dollars or Pounds Catnip. -

Keep telling yourself that.
The analogy sticks.
There just ain't no way that anybody could have been on the Internet for 5 years (forum join date 2005) and NOT have heard of Slashdot. Not when New York Times has mentioned them. Not when Fox News has mentioned them. Not when CNN has mentioned them. Not when CBS, NBC, ABC, Reuters, and the Associated Press have mentioned them.
You would have to have your head buried in a lump of concrete to have been on the web for that long and never have at least HEARD somebody refer to Slashdot. -
Quote:Dark Armor was originally built on the idea of "toggle" management. The basic gameplay premise is that you, the player, would select which armor to have active at any given time.Does anyone have a list of foes that have the fire/cold/energy/negative damage.
I currently am 28 and only run it for freakshow, because of the end drain, but I think there might be an enemy that has that enrgy/neg damage type that I should be running the toggle, but currently am not.
The set has never been "rebalanced" for the "toggle and leave running" play style actually used by players of the game.
The result is that Dark Armor with all of it's aura's active is the second most endurance intensive armor set out of all of the defensive armors. Only Stone Armor's stackable toggles consume more endurance.
Even if you discount Cloak of Fear, the endurance drain is pretty close to all of the Stackable Ice toggles.
The reason why I'm telling you this is that because of the original game design there may not be anybody in your particular level range that Murky Cloud protects against damage from.
Something else you have to consider is that Murky Cloud is also your Endurance Recovery Debuff Resistance power.
Enemy Groups that can drain endurance include: Clockwork, Malta, Carnival, Tsoo, Banished Pantheon, Rikti, Freakshow, Crey, Rularuu (AV), 5th Column (AV / EB), Arachnos, Circle of Thorns...
well, actually, it's easier listing enemy groups that do NOT have an endurance drain really.
So, it's a bit of a two-edged sword. The end-drain on Dark Armor is pretty high no matter what you do, but if you don't run Murky Cloud, anybody with a -recov power is going to knock you out of a fight even faster.
On SO's... Dark Armor sucks. I'm sorry, it just does. On IO's you can make some pretty good Dark Armor builds, but it will generally be expensive... and Soul Transfer will still seem like a must-have power.
* * *
Now, Dark Armor's pathetic SO capabilities and omg that end-drain is just way too high for what the set does have been brought to the attention of Castle.
A proposed change of adding a +recovery rate buff to Dark Regeneration has been made... I don't know if Castle will actually go for the change though. -

http://www.dailytech.com/Sony+Recall...ticle18892.htm
Quote:F Series Page. That recall breaks down to 259,000 laptops in the U.S, 103,000 in Europe
C Series Page.
Sony Europ Recall Page.
Now, as far as I can find, Sony has yet to set up an actual US site for the near 260,000 F and C series computers shipped to the US. So far every site reporting this recall only links to the EU site.
Now, I know what everybody is expecting me to point out, rather gleefully, so I'll go ahead and get it out of the way. As with the Dell, HP, Gateway, Acer, Asus, and Apple recalls... these recalled laptops all have Nvidia graphics chips.
That being said, what is different is that the models listed and linked by Geek.com are using the GT 330M.
On one hand, this is "good" news as no Nvidia discrete G200 GPU mobile laptop (the GTX 260, 280, or 285) has yet to be involved in a recall.
The "bad" news is that this means that every other Nvidia mobile chipset released since the NV41m, outside of the Quadro series, has been involved in a product recall. It's also bad news as this indicates that Nvidia still has massive thermal issues even with die shrinks (remember, the mobile GT 3xx series is on a 40nm process), and still isn't telling manufacturers the full story on just how much power their GPU's consume, nor how much heat those products put off.
If you have picked up a laptop with an Nvidia chipset over the past couple of years, I would take the time to contact your laptop manufacturer and make sure there are not any firmware or bios upgrades available to help bring the run-away thermals under-control. -

Why, how curious. It seems that today we have all gone a bit mad-er. How delightful.
Greetings and welcome to you all.
Okay, somebody is going to pay for this. I don't know who. I don't know how. But somebody. Will. Pay. -
We've also had requests for help from Aion players... Champions Online Players... and going back far enough... there have been threads on Tabula Rasa, WarHammer, and FFXI.

Quote:Uh huh. Looks like I need to pose the same question to you:I doubt Slashdot has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising like Microsoft.
... you have seriously never heard of Slashdot, Slashdotting, or the Slashdot effect?
Technically, it's possible. It's just extremely unlikely. -
This sounds like a network problem more than anything else.
Have you tried checking your network performance? : ftp://ftp.coh.com/support_tool/netin...allOS_USEU.exe -

Honestly I'd never heard of slashdot, or any of that old stuff. It was informative but didn't have to be posted in such a volatile way.
That's sort of like going into a computer store and asking who Microsoft is.
