Quote:... Ya know. I'm getting really tired of this complete and utter non-sense.Additionally, 2.5 other costume sets and 2 auras were put into a purchase-only pack off to the side, or were sold with the "complete" edition. Quite a few of us who'd pre-ordered GR to show our support were pretty gobsmacked that we had to lay out EXTRA in order to get everything.
Let me smack you around with a timeline.
- HeroCon 2009: Developers state there is a pre-order.
- March 2nd 2010: Marketing states there is not going to be pre-order. There is a pre-purchase and a retail package. The Retail package will not be available for pre-order: http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.co...ing-rogue.html :: http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.co...-purchase.html :: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=2632296
- March 2nd 2010: the differences between the pre-purchase and the retail package are made abundantly clear on the City of Heroes Website, the City of Heroes Forums, and the City of Heroes Going Rogue Webpage, complete with a F.A.Q. page detailing the differences: http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.co...-info/faq.html
- May 28th 2010: Marketing announces collaborative deal with Gamestop and Razer: http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.co...promotion.html
Let me repeat the pertinent details since they went over your head:
- There was nearly a 3 month difference between the marketing department saying there was not going to be a pre-order and the announcement of the Gamestop / Razer Deal
- You Do not have anything to be gob-smacked over. You were not gob-smacked. You have, however, been called out for trying to be antagonistic. You. Failed.
- Everybody who bought the Going Rogue PRE-PURCHASE had ample information on which to make their purchasing decision, and most of those decisions were made long before Gamestop/Razer ever entered the picture.
Logic and facts, the two worst enemies of the I've got some nonsense and I think I can get away with it. -

It's also a bad idea. This particular forum software records the IP address of the posting computer as each post as it's made, so unless a sock-puppet goes through the trouble of posting from a completely different network access point they will still be leaving a tag of their "real" identify on each post. -

There's been 3 hotfix's released so far by AMD this month. It looks like you grabbed the stock 10.10 driver, the one with the bugs. -
Quote:Golden Girl: Ahem. Hey. You. On the other side of the computer screen. Yeah. You with the animated hair. Yeah, I'm talking at you. Now take that razer-blade over there and cut it off. Now. I mean it. If I can't have my hair animated, you can't have your hair animated. Don't make me break through this monitor and feed you to Hamidon!I don't have a "character" - so my avatar is just me - so I'm already aware of me

* * *
and with that deathwish out of the way, what would happen if my own characters were aware of me... I don't know really. I think most of them would be happy with their names, power-sets, and situations. I don't generally do horrific back-stories for any character. I think only one might get mad because I made her an Archery / Fire blaster. She might be tempted to talk to Manti about that enema-arrow upgrade. -
Quote:http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/pat...patch_not.htmlI know that if you're the Super Leader of a Supergroup and you switch completely from Hero to Villain (or vice versa), your character gets demoted and another character gets promoted to the Super Leader position. My question is, is this completely random? Or is it based upon which other character had the most recent login or their rank or some other factor?
http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/pat...lease_not.htmlQuote:When a Supergroup leader tries to switch sides, a popup appears telling them the consequences of the alignment shift, which is that they will be removed from their leader rank if they switch their alignment to the opposing side.
* If they do switch alignment all the way to polar opposite of the SG, leadership will pass to the next highest ranking/senior member of the SG.
Quote:Here is a list of what Super Leader can do:
* Super Leader has all permissions available to leaders.
*
* Super Leader can modify permissions of leaders, and can demote or promote any rank.
*
* Super Leader can promote another leader to their position, and self demote themselves back to Leader rank.
*
* Super Leader position can be named to be in line with SG/VG tastes and motif.
*
* Super Leader position will always be filled by an active user and Rank 5 leaders will no longer be demoted unless the SL designates.
*
* Super Leader will be auto-demoted if inactivity period set by permissions is reached.
*
* The highest ranking member with the most recent log-in time will be auto-promoted once Super Leader position is vacated.
*
* Super Leader can pass leadership to a Rank 5 Leader at any time as long they are online, this transfer of leadership occurs in the SG/VG screen.
*
* There is a confirmation screen before this transaction occurs to eliminate errors.
*
* Customer Service can promote any on-line player to the Super Leader position, if the petition warrants such action
*
* There is only one Super Leader.
We understand there may be some general concern over this new rank, how leaders will be selected, and how and what our Customer Supports role is within the SG/VG setting. Due to these concerns we are announcing this feature now and will be giving some advanced notice to the community on the launch date for Issue 14: Architect.
Just like any shared leader position, the SG/VG as a group can determine how this position should be used and what rules apply, outside of permissions. That way if the current player in the position violates those rules, they can voluntarily give the rank to someone else, or the case can be made to CS to resolve as needed.
The position is affected by auto demotion, and it is the only rank now affected by this design. When that occurs, it will pass to the next highest rank member that has logged in most recently. Any player that has been logged out for longer then the auto demotion time is not eligible to be promoted, regardless of rank.
Also note, there has been a change to the auto-promotion process:
*
* The Last leader to log out will be promoted when I14 goes live.
*
* There is a 24 hour tie-breaker, if multiple leaders log out at the same time.
*
* If multiple leaders log out within 24 hours of each other, the leader with the earliest join date will be promoted.
This allows players to better choose which leader will get promoted. We will give advance notice of the approximate live date for I14, in order for SG members to determine which leader should log in before that time.
If the wrong person does get promoted, there are 2 options: The current super-leader can promote the correct person using the Super Group Screen and they will then be moved back to leader rank. Otherwise, petition a GM. They can review the case and take appropriate actions to resolve and possibly put the correct player in the position.
We are encouraging you as the player base to work to resolve any conflicts over leadership within your group first, before resulting to Customer Support. -
Quote:simple. Check the pool powers and check the player powers.Im guessing the -kb recipes are for non scrappers and tankers since those normally have a -kb power or toggle.
With that being said, why don't we have -stun, -hold, -disorient recipes for the same AT's such as defenders, blasters, controllers, etc.
Maybe we can add new recipes with said attributes to an upcoming Issue??
One of the reasons why there are Knock-back prevention IO's is because there already was a pool power that prevented knockback, Acrobatics. None of the other Mez effects, save for immobilize, are prevented or reduced under Pool Powers.
Another reason is the presence of player powers that protect against or reduce mez effects
Mez Protections:- Shadow Fall: Fear
- Clear Mind: Stun, Hold, Sleep, Fear, Confuse, Immobilize
- Enforced Morale: Stun, Hold, Sleep, Fear, Confuse, Immobilize
- Dispersion Bubble: Stun, Hold, Immobilize
- Increase Density: Stun, Hold, Immobilize, KNOCKBACK
- Sonic Dispersion: Stun, Hold, Immobilize
- Clarity: Stun, Hold, Sleep, Fear, Confuse, Immobilize
- O2 Boost: Stun. Sleep
- Force Field Generator: Stun, Hold, Immobilize
- Artic Fog: Slow
- Adrenaline Boost: Slow
- Deflection Shield: End Drain
- Siphon Speed: Slow
- Accelerate Metabolism: Hold, Stun, Sleep, Immobilize, End Drain
- O2 Boost: End Drain
I'm going to be blunt. Short of the entire development team all receiving simultaneous knocks to the heads with anvils, you are not going to be able to spin the idea of adding other mez protections to IO bonus's as a good thing. The developers have been very clear that archtypes who are not natively resistant to mez effects are going to remain non-resistant to mez effects. -

seemed to be pretty clearly referencing one of the worst "comic book" movies ever miscast. I couldn't help but watch that film expecting Constantine's actor to pull out an air-guitar and say duuuude, we should totally find a police box to go to hell man.

Quote:and what happens if it is not nearing "the end" as you call it?Well, it's kinda late to really do that kind of update to the game. As much as I love City of Heroes, it's nearing "the end" as far as things go. Now, what "the end" means varies. The original Everquest is still to my knowledge up and played, it's just not what it was back when it started, and it's not getting a huge graphics update anytime soon either.
What happens if CoH doesn't follow the pattern of other games?
What happens when the narrow misconceptions about MMORPG's are not taken for granted?
What then?
* * *
Actually, there's a song I can think of that communicates a similar theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIzaJ-sLbw0Some Mastermind has Duped the Masses, but can't explain when the release date passes
Song parodies aside, CoH is unlike any other MMO on the market. Why compare it to other products? Why should the performance of other MMO's impact the performance of CoH? Why should the performance record of other MMO products have any bearing on the performance record of the CoH MMO?
Each Game he knew, what was in store, oh it's deja'vu it seems like I've heard this before
Yes, other games can be used as examples on what is a good business move and what is not a good business move. That doesn't make them the be-all / end-all of how MMO's should be run or produced.
Let me put this another way:
When was the last time you heard somebody knocking Zelda: A Link to the Past because it came out in 1991?
When was the last time you heard somebody knocking Super Mario World for it's 1990 release? Hell, last time I checked gamers were praising New Super Mario Brothers Wii for bringing back the 1990 gameplay.
Thing is this: Good Game's don't get old.
So what if CoH is 6 years old. So what if other MMO's haven't gone that long. CoH isn't other MMO's. It is a good game, pure and simple. It stands on it's own as a good game.
The End? Only for those with blinders on. -

Quote:with nothing but it's own powers? No.I was just wondering if any Warshade has been able to solo a GM or even an AV?
While WarShades have a wide range of powers they lack two of the critical debuff components "big game hunters" utilize.- WarShades have no method by which to debuff enemy Regneration.
- WarShades have no method by which to debuff enemy Resistance.
WarShades, while capable of reaching resistance cap with the Eclipse Power, won't be able to feed eclipse in a 1-on-1 sustained fight. The WarShade Stygian Circle power, while a powerful heal and endurance recovery tool, requires defeated foes, which again, are not going to be prominent in a 1-on-1 sustained fight.
Sheer damage isn't exactly an answer either. WarShades, while capable of reaching their damage cap with Sunless Mire need a full mob to do so. Again, not happening in a sustained 1-on-1 fight.
So, on paper, no, a WarShade cannot generate the debuffs on it's own to drop a big-game target, nor can a WarShade generate the DPS required to overcome a big-game target's natural stats, nor does a WarShade possess the survivability to remain in a sustained 1-on-1 fight. -
My suspicion is this Forbin:
If NCSoft was to contemplate a Free to Play model for CoH, it would become the only model. Something to keep in mind is that while NCSoft has a reputation for trying everything at least once, and have backed projects that from a long-term viewpoint, really didn't make any sense what-so-ever (I'm looking at NetDevil's NCSoft published game here). Over the years NCSoft has tried quite a few different business models, including the tiered access model proposed by Infogrames, and used by Turbine in their MMO-RPG.
Thing is, NCSoft already has empirical proof that a large scale MMORPG driven by paid-expansion packs can work. ArenaNet is already on their sequel title. Our game, in particular, CoH, has also proven that add-on Booster Packs can supplement subscription payments.
My suspicion is that if NCSoft were to consider a F2P model for CoH, they would just drop the subscription rates entirely. It is my opinion that the business model from that point would be based largely on booster-packs and regular expansions.
I think before NCSoft makes any kind of move on subscriptions, they'll wait for the post-Christmas sales results to filter in, and wait for SOE's upcoming Super-Hero game to actually have a few months on the market so they can accurately guage what the competition is doing in comparison to how their own title is doing. -
I can just hear how that conversation went between Nick and his agent.
- Agent: Dude, you did National Treasure 2.
- Nick: ... point. Tell them I'll be in on Monday.
-
Quote:Those changes are what I hate about games changing to an F2P model. I've yet to see one where gameplay itself wasn't affected negatively.
The SOE experiment was a complete disaster for many of the same reasons the Infogrames experiment will be a complete disaster, such as locking subscribers looking to go F2P out of their characters and existing accounts, and the entire F2P account appearently being used as a promo for a subscriber account. However, MMO-Shooters uses a skill based system, players on the F2P accounts were just as effective as players with Subscribed accounts. The actual gameplay itself was not affected by the state of a players Subscribed or F2P account.
other F2P model changes appears to be a success, largely because the existing paid-for-options can only indirectly influence the tide of a battle. E.G. a Player might have a full loadout of purple weapons and devices rather than a mixed loadout of commons, greens, and blues. A player purchasing the add-on options might also be able to field a wider variety of avatars, with better average equipment across each avatar, rather than simply fielding a limited number of avatars or focusing on one avatar alone. As Hi-Rez decided to drop the subscription model in it's entirety, which is probably the way to go for games making the switch, the actual combat and gameplay was largely unaffected. Hi-Rez's F2P accounts are not used as advertising gimmicks for a subscriber account.
That goes into my issue with Turbine's F2P model. The F2P system, while fairly competent, acts like more of a promo of the subscriber base. I would be hard-pressed to say that the F2P elements have affected Turbine's game in an entirely positive manner. Turbine's financial advantage is that there is a large number of players who want a F2P MMO-RPG. -

Quote:good question. I'm ashamed I didn't ask it.Hmm. I didn't have that when I was trying CoH under Ubuntu. What level is this error at? Is it happening during the cohupdater program, or later, or what?
Indeed. Is this happening after the program has been installed? Is this happening when you actually open the game and are at the login screen?

Je_saist, I don't recall any patches being released today.
Time can be flexible in tech support. I've lost count of the number of problems I've troubleshooted where somebody says they did something "yesterday" or that it was "just working yesterday"... but the error occurred over the weekend, last week, or a couple weeks ago. -
I just walked through the installer located for download through http://us.ncsoft.com/en/
City of Heroes is installing fine on the latest public Cedega engine: 2010071
There is a catch to using the installer from the NCSoft site. You need to do the install in Windowed Mode.
However, there is a semi-catch to that. The last time I ran the installer all the way through it hung up and I wound up copying the install files from an existing Windows install. Right now the installer is working it's way through the older 7.3.3 stable engine release and hasn't hung up (yet).
* * *
And there it goes... looping on downloading file manifest.
* * *
And the 2010071 engine just looped out as well.

WildCat4Ever posted a fix to the looping Pigg file problem in this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=3100598

Are you sure it's just not running through a patch? -
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...10cHotfix.aspx
This is only for Windows NT6 Operating Systems.
This is also the third hotfix this month... seeing as how i have both 10.10a and 10.10b hotfix downloads. City of Heroes is not mentioned, but OpenGL is, so hey, give it a shot.
