  3. Thank you. I'm sort of curious why I couldn't find this list on ParagonWiki...
  4. The RadeonHD 3200 is an integrated GPU. It's, well, weak.

However, it's 2000 megapixel fill rate, and 2000 megatexel fill-rate lines up right alongside the much older Radeon 9600 XT. Now, I do know that the 9600 Pro is capable of pushing 1024*768 with medium details on a Socket 754 Athlon64 3200+.

The laptop's native resolution of 1366 x 768 is a bit over that, but the laptop does have a lot more memory, a better memory controller, a better GPU, so it should be able to drive CoH with medium detail settings no problem.

The only real potential problem I see with the laptop is it's Operating System. If you look through the Tech Support systems you'll see lots of players running into issues with Microsoft's Latest effort.

If you do go with that laptop though, don't forget that you aren't stuck with the OS it ships with. Most current Linux distributions will install fine, and if you look around you'll find guides on how to install a Linux while keeping your Windows drive intact (say like, www.mepisguides.com). In addition, while NCSoft and Paragon Studios are shy about talking about it, the Mac developers are the guys behind Cedega, and I've been running City of Heroes atop Cedega on 64bit Linuxs with Radeon Hardware (RadeonHD 2600 Mobile, Radeon x1900 AIW) for a little over a year now.
  5. Well, if I was buying right now, I'd actually go a little over $130 to the $144 mark and pick up a RadeonHD 5750:

    Either this Asus : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121351

    Or this Sapphire: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102859

Mostly because they have free shipping right now, and depending on where you live, that might actually be cheaper than buying a $130 card and having it shipped.

    ***

If the $130 line is a hardline you can't go over, I'd go for this VisionTek 4850, again, because of Free Shipping : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129138

That and it's also the only 1gig 4850 Newegg is listing in stock.

    ***

I did have a bit of trouble finding a GTS 250 1gig under the $130 mark, and it's from MSI: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127445

Also under the $130 mark was this 9800 GT from Gigabyte : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125286

Really though, with the Nvidia cards, you would be paying $13 more before the rebate ($116 vs $129) for cards that aren't quite as good... .which is actually why they have the rebates.
  6. I'm aware that in developer created missions, mobs say the Hero's or Villains name, like Lookout, it's Captain Commando, here to rescue the Captive! Stop Him!

Is there a a $variable I can enter into the AE creation system to have my mobs do the same?

Personally I thought it was over when we got to the [summon.shamwow] and [summon.zorbeez] lines on page 3. Fix Burn

why not just change the burn status effect to knockback, like bonfire? Or put the ludicrous fear effect onto bonfire and remove its knockback.
I didn't really make this clear enough. I brought up bonfire because it is a similar PBAOE / TAOE drop fire effect to burn. I was pointing out that the (apparent, if not stated) goal of equalizing fire / effects by adding slow resist to Fire Aura was to bring the Various status effects of fire in line with each other hadn't been met. I was pointing out that there still were some glaring differences in the status affects that similar fire powers offered.

By using the term ludicrous fear effect the intent was to make it clear that the massive fear on Burn hadn't been thought through, and that the fear status effect made absolutely no sense, what-so-ever. I wasn't suggesting actually replacing the knockback effect on bonfire. I was trying to put into perspective just how idiotic the fear effect on burn was.

I don't actually have a 5x00 card on hand, but given my experience with Win7 and Crossfired 3870HD's, I'm willing to bet that this is your problem.

I know. That's still sort of like getting your car into a wreck, having the insurance adjuster drive up, examine the ruined chassis, tossing a pine-scented air-freshener into the burnt wreck, and then declaring the vehicle drivable. Yeah, the bad smell has been taken care of, but that really wasn't the biggest problem at hand.

I think I'm right in saying that the only reason Temperature Protection got slow resistance is due to the Thermal Rad offering slow resistance. Of course, if whoever made the change was bringing all fire power-sets into balance, why not just change the burn status effect to knockback, like bonfire? Or put the ludicrous fear effect onto bonfire and remove its knockback.

Really, while I respect, and admire, the job the developers are managing to pull off, I just can't help but look at Fire Aura and wonder What Are They Thinking?

    Fix Burn

players have been complaining about how bad burn is as a power for years. I should know, I'm one of them.

However, the devs have declined, for years, to revisit the changes made to fire aura. When they ported Fire Aura to scrapper, the devs didn't spend any time at all thinking about the power set. They just lopped 30% off the tanker values, called it a day, and moved on. Since I5 the devs have looked at everything else but Fire Aura. Even Invulnerability, which really didn't need a rework, got one.

Fire Aura? Still ignored. I honestly don't know what it's going to take to get the developers to sit down and rethink the power set, sort of somebody abducting Posi or Castle next Hero-Con, tying them up in front of a laptop, and not letting them go until they get at least 30 levels on a Fire Aura.

... Let me Stress. That's a BAD IDEA. No. We Shouldn't actually do it.

PUT THOSE ROPES DOWN RIGHT NOW!

okay, I think I do need to clarify these two cracks of my own. They were made mostly because I'm aware of some avatars that after multiple screen-caps and chat logs covering griefing turned over to the devs... still can log into the game, and I'm aware of at least one that still has forum access.

So yes, I do know some people actually have gotten banned. I just really question sometimes just how effective the system is at removing players who do intentionally grief players in the game.

Seriously though, I turned off my rep when this thread was only up to page 2. I'd already been thinking about it, since to me it's little more than advertising "Someone likes me!", at best. Then I notice that it loses even that dubious benefit when compared to the people who're just repping each other over and over. What the hell is the point of something if you can't tell the genuinely helpful people, those who provide guides and actual services for the community, from the ones who're engaging in a back-scratching contest for teh lulz? Useless.
Inclined to agree. I've banged on about the use of the Thank Option as it's implemented on Mepislovers.org. I think if the moderators were actually serious about using the forum tools they would go with a similar or identical approach... because it works.

One potential problem is that because of both corporate and player interference, I don't think the moderators can actually be serious in the application of various tools or features available to the vBulletin system. Where as over on Mepislovers, if somebody is an outright troll, we can ban their IP address and wave bai bai. I'm not positive, but I don't think our moderators can actually perma-ban any account without a court order.

There are also certain expectations of the playerbase. Some players only pay because they can grief, cause trouble, or just be jerks. Although proving that these players need to be removed, permanently, is easy to other players, due to complex reasonings such players generally can't be removed without, again, pretty much getting a court order.

Part of me really does feel sorry for the mods here. They pretty much have to deal with the community with their hands wrapped in fuzzy soft fingerless mittens and held behind their backs with equipment designed for Mother Mayhem's bondage costume line.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true. So I just picked up 2 sets of Kinetic Crash impacts on Live and will transfer my stone to test and see whether or not this is actually true.

    nope.

Set bonus's are limited per name.

I tried this on a stone tank. Once you hit 5 7.5 boosts, that's it. no more count.

You can still get other recharge boosts, like 5%, or 6.5%, or 10% (purple), but you can only have 5 of any single named IO bonus effect.
