Quote:There's also nothing at all wrong with ceasing to pay for a service that you no longer think is worth it. /ragequit may be mock-worthy, but quitting because you're bored is perfectly reasonable. We have no obligation to stay subscribed.I love everything the devs give me! Thank you sir, may I have another!
Sorry but I've been waiting a long time for the stuff I "want". I understand the hate for people who don't love everything the devs do, but some of us are sick of waiting for basic things. We're also tired of them catering to people who will praise them for any move they make.
That said, Praetoria will keep me entertained for at least a couple years, at the pace I play. So from my perspective, they can take their time. But I understand many players urgently want end game content. -

I'm done. :P Sorry, had to be the first doomsayer.
Since I20 is going into closed beta so soon, I'm actually thinking I19 might indeed be pretty small. But who knows. -
Quote:Just wanted to chime in on this, even though I haven't read every post here.Scott Pilgrim suffers from one main issue: It doesn't answer "Why?"
I had only heard of the SP comics in passing, had never read them, and didn't really know what to expect of the movie. I went to see it and absolutely loved it, and a big part of the reason I loved it was because it was just bat-s*** insane. So the lack of explanation to me was what made it great. It was just a fun, very funny movie that for some reason takes place in a video game world where crazy crap happens without any explanation. It seemed like someone's fever dream, and I really liked that. I suspect it's the same reason I'll like Suckerpunch.
So I think the reason it semi-flopped is because, as others have said before, it's a big budget movie targeted at a niche of a niche. I don't think anyone should have had any reasonable expectation of big box office success on this one. Most people probably don't get why people explode into coins when you kill them, or why there are random doors floating in space, or why a sword came out of his chest at the end, or what the prefix "Nega" means. And this is on top of the fact that even when you get all those references, the movie is still frenetic and shallow. So even within the 8-bit video game enthusiast niche, it still wont appeal to people who wanted to see something more substantial than a nerd's comedic fever dream power fantasy.
I loved it, probably because I'm in that niche, or maybe just a little outside it, but man is that a narrow demographic. -
Pretty much all of Manhattan is safe these days. The walk from Penn Station to the Javits Center is super boring, but not particularly dangerous. I actually work right around there. You'll pass a lot of office buildings and crappy restaurants, and then when you cross 9th ave you'll pass a lot of warehouses and maybe a horse stable, but you don't have anything to worry about. To squeeze the maximum amount of interest out of the walk, you might as well walk down 34th street. Not that it helps all that much - that area is just a drag in general. Obviously common sense applies when talking about safety.

Quote:They just need to build another convention center closer to the village. I don't think midtown west is getting gentrified any time soon. Even just building one a few dozen blocks south on the west side would be vastly better - must closer to Chelsea/West Village.NYC really needs to do something about the surrounding area around the Javits Center. It's still too dilapidated-industrial looking. Especially while you're treking to it across the very long between-avenue blocks (they're like 2.5 regular blocks in length). I seldom get motivated enough to want to go to an event there.
Of course, there's no space anywhere, so that's tricky. -
Here's a few suggestions:
The Knife - dark electro pop. I'd highly recommend the album Silent Shout.
Do Make Say Think - post rock instrumental. Their self titled album is just fantastic.
Mogwai - on the same note as DMST, except more eclectic. Tons of great albums, which are all different.
Slightly riskier:
Screaming Females - alt metal/punk/rock-ish. The lead singer will blow your mind on guitar live.
Selfish C*** - really good punk. NSFW.
Let me know what you think! -
I'll be there
Although being at SDCC for the first time this year made me realize that NYCC will probably never be as big or cool, simply because while SD is a small city that completely transforms for the con, which generates this cool atmosphere of craziness, NYC simply absorbs all its mass with a shrug. Plus, the Javits center is on the extreme west side of Manhattan, where fun goes to die, while the SD Convention Center is right in downtown SD.
But regardless, NYCC is a great time and I'll enjoy the hell out of it. -

I'm using these Sennheiser earbuds, and they work great - they kind of lodge in your ears with these rubber bumper thingies, and it sticks them in there pretty well. It even comes with a couple different sizes of bumpers so you can adjust it to your own ear. They also do a really good job blocking sound, and the sound quality is really great. The only downside is when you bump the cord you can hear it - I just secure it so it's not dangling.

Keep in mind that animation and art are probably different departments. This wouldn't have required any art time, as far as I can tell. This doesn't necessarily take that much time away from another costume pack.
Having said that, if it's just emotes, I'll also probably skip it. Which is fine - I'm sure there are people who will buy it. -
Quote:Just because they're releasing an emotes pack does not mean they're not also working on more costume packs. I think we have every reason to believe they ARE working on more costume packs - this probably didn't even take time away from costume pieces, since I'm pretty sure animation and art are separate teams.Where did you get those ZM?
I am disappointed. There massively requested items that seem to be overlooked constantly, things like Jet packs, holsters/scabbards, beast parts, pool customization, and the list goes on.
Yes we have wanted new dance emotes for a while (I have even posted on it), it just does not seem booster worthy.
I will still buy it, to support the game, but I think you guys could have done better on this one. -
I'm curious to know how well this will sell. Not worth it to me for emotes only - if there were even one costume set, I would probably buy it. But I imagine there are some folks who'll love it. I'm just curious about the proportion.

Quote:Robin Hood would not be a Rogue in this game. I'm not actually sure what he'd be. Rogues are Han Solo types, not Robin Hood types - they do good by accident or by contrivance, but act selfishly.Really? That's not what saw at all. Robin Hood' shtick wasn't stealing from the everybody and keeping it.
The Rogue path seems more concerned with just going for the hard currency, while avoiding any situation that would be likely to escalate beyond what you care to do, and occasionally doing some charity work because somebody threatened your clientele. -
-
They specifically pulled it from I18 because it didn't have content associated with it. Presumably this means that when it is released, it'll be released with content.
-
Quote:That's actually a pretty accurate description - remember that Rogues are on their way to Heroes, and Vigilantes are on their way to Villains. I know they advertise it as being morally grey, but it's very hard to do that well when you're moving characters in a specific direction along the spectrum like that. A truly morally grey mission wouldn't move you anywhere on the moral spectrum - your choices would be ambiguous judgement calls, villainous to some, heroic to others. That's more like what Praetoria is (debatably), and not like what the alignment missions are. I'd love to see some truly ambiguous missions in the core game, but these are not them.Vigilantes/Rogues are supposed to be in a morally gray area, but from what I've read Rogues sound like a bunch of Robin Hoods, running around causing innocent mischief while saving random bystanders. While the Vigilantes sound like the kind of lunatics that would run around shouting "My dark god tells me that you are all sinners, and demands that you die in righteous hellfire! Muahaha!"
-
Quote:That would just be straight up hero in the context of this game... I guess, other than the "kill" part. This game is defining vigilante in a very specific way, differently than the colloquial usage. A Vigilante here is a hero that seeks to stop criminals by any means necessary, even if that means going through innocent people to do it, and it often does. Remember, the whole point of the vigilante missions is that you're on the path to villainy.Have not done any of the Vigilante missions yet, but after reading some of the posts really do not seem vigilante at all. I was kinda hoping for The Crow, Punisher, Batman, Shadowhawk (break their spines baby), or even DarkMan, who want to deliver justice in a cold and efficient manner. Not border line villain missions for heroes. Where is the kill "X" and his goons because they bombed a pet store missions?

Quote:The reason the devs pulled the Alpha Incarnate slot from I18 is so that they could release it with the rest of the end game content in I19 - the complain was that even though we had the new Alpha slot, we had nothing to do with it. No content that required its enhancements. So I think that's a pretty good indication that I19 will have some significant end game content. To the OP: I both agree and disagree with you.
I get what the devs where trying to accomplish with GR and I think they did.
That said, they need to give us some true endgame - not "systems" (sideswitching, grinding for aMerits, Incarnate), but actual content. CoP is a first step, but we need more....oh and pvp being fixed, 'cause that's the ultimate endgame.
As for PvP, I wouldn't hold your breath. -
I would revamp a hero zone, and make it for both a heroes and villains, segregated like Ouroboros - that would let the art team completely focus their efforts on one zone instead of diluting their work.
I would probably start with Independence Port, because it's one of the worst zones for content and flow, and it has a great landmark with a probable high ROI to a graphical upgrade. It's also a logical place for villains to be able to arrive.
There are a ton of zones you could do this for, though. You could even do it for an RI zone, although the reason I would pick a Paragon zone is because there are a lot of much older zones that are generally worse than RI zones, and Paragon's atmosphere is more inviting. And we already have so many zones that are underused, I certainly wouldn't create a new one.
I just think the important part is to revamp one zone, and give heroes and villains each their own instance, with story arcs that run in opposition to one another. That way the art team can re-use not only zone assets, but NPC assets and mission maps as well. -
Quote:I don't think I've gotten any that are explicitly villainous. The one I was thinking of was where some Freakshow are taking out some reformed Freakshow. The Vigilante choice is to go in and take all of them out, because, "They're all scum," or something like that. The reformed Freakshow actually beg for mercy while you're killing them. Gah.I kind of disagree. Some of the ones I've had made me think, "No, that's not what a vigilante would do, that's what a VILLAIN would do." They kind of go over the gray area, and that's not cool. Now if it was when I was already a vigilante, and was going villain, then I'd want it to be like "Yes, this is villainous completely"
...Sadly I can't think of any examples... -
The Vigilante missions are some of the hardest missions to bring myself to do. Some of them are extremely cruel. The devs did a great job on them.

Quote:The question for me is, did they have the resources to do both at once but did not, and if so, why? Or is it possible that the upgrades to their tech required to make the new content took more of their resources than it otherwise would? Or do they just not have that many resources?Actually, both are important RIGHT NOW. Why is that other game enhancing both their low level and high level experience? Because, sure you want to cater to new players, but you don't forget the people already paying you.
And yes, I know you all love your 234th alts very much. -
The way I see it, the devs realize that their newbie content sucked and that their end-game content sucked. They didn't have the resources to do both in one update, so they had to choose one or the other. They chose the newbie content.
We can debate whether that was a wise choice on their part, but from what they've said about I19, it seems they realize that they have an end-game deficiency that they have to focus on as well.
I'm personally happy with the choice they made, because I like the low game experience, and I'll get a lot more use out of it than new end-game content. But it's also clear that there's a large group of players that have the opposite opinion. I don't have any stats about what percentage of players have level 50 characters, but I would guess that if you looked at those stats you would see that most characters do not. So it might have made sense to go the route they did, and I hope that decision was informed.
Regardless, it's clear they're addressing the end game problem as quickly as they can, and hopefully it ends up being of the same high quality we got in Praetoria.
