I apologize for the length of this post, but as a badgehunter, I'm trying to get a little stress off Pozi (even if his TF still sucks

). Also, I ask that any who feel insulted by my responses to not take it personally as I did not reread my post for bunny foofooness.

Good to know. Maybe I'll have to put up with PvP for a while.
These should be available elsewhere for those who don't like PvP. Heroes have similar hurdles for some some Arachnos-related badges and Shivans. Blue Ink Men and Sorcerers also don't spawn outside in villain PvE zones, but you do enough Tsoo missions to get those badges.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is an encouragement to see all the content if you are going to be set on being a badgehunter. Certain mobs will be specific to these zones, and should remain so, as the situation can be treated no differently than getting Portal Jockey. I may hate Hydra with every ounce I have, but I still have to get Multidimensional to get the Accolade. Good RL friend has a SEVERE fear of zombies, but killed a bunch of Embalmed for the badge. I helped her get that one (killed some while she sat at the door), and if some of your friends understand your dislike for PvP, theyll help you by doing a similar thing.

Since you said you'd listen to suggestions for improvement:
I have a problem with badges being awarded to only the team that does the most damage to the monster, or any other competitive scheme, because it favors AT's that do damage over many support AT's.
To be specific, my tank had to fight the Kraken 4 times before he got the badge for defeating the Kraken. Part of this is bad luck, but much of it is due to the fact that what I add to a team, that is "Aggro control" I am effectively adding to any other team that is competing with me for the badge. Effectivelty, I am a liability to a team as a member because if there were a team with me and 7 blasters and another team of 8 blasters, the team with 8 blasters would be doing more damage and would still benefit from my "tanking" for them, because the Kraken's aggro would be focused on me.
So, please consider changing the system to have everyone on a team that does damage awarded the badge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Kill Count badges (of which the Giant Monster badges are, just with a Kill Count of 1) require you/your team do 25% of the entity's HP in damage in order to get credit. So in theory 4 teams could all get credit (much more likely that 3 teams will get credit).
In your scenario of Tanker + 7 blasters vs. 8 blasters, I have to assume that both teams would get the badge, since both teams are going to contribute over 25% damage to the entity.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is still highly unfair for Giant Monsters. I have helped defeat many, many monsters but never get a badge (for the most part) because I am usually solo or on a small team.
If it's just a friend and I on one team and 2 teams of 8 fighting a monster, we never get the badge because we simply cannot do enough damage. This is especially unfair to the support classes (controllers and dominators) who do very little damage.
Why can't the Giant Monsters work like Hamidon? Everyone who gets even on hit on Hamidon gets a Hamidon Enhancement. Why can't everyone who gets in at least one hit get the monster badge?
[/ QUOTE ]
Risk vs. reward. Krakens badge is a desirable badge because hes very rare to find, even though he spawns in a lowbie zone. HOs are desirable because of their bonuses and because theyre extremely tough to get. A group of controllers could allow HUNDREDS of players of level 7+ to get the badge with zero risk to them by chain-mezzing Kraken. Thus, the badge is no longer very difficult to get. Would just cause the same pandemonium that happens when Hamis held (Everybody hit him once NOW!!!!), but without any risk to the lowbies.

When will you make the tutorial zone badge (hero side) available to people outside of the tutorial? I was out of the tutorial zone long before badges were even put into the game and now that's one badge that I can absolutely never get.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seconded. Seems unfair to penalize players for not getting that zone's badge when they can't be expected to even know about the badge system at all.
An idea for a solution: Put higher level contamined thugs in the Terra Volta reactor areas. That way, people have to put forth some effort to get the badge (namely by doing the TV trial(s)), and it fits logically in the storyline (i.e., they're contaminated from exposure to the reactor radiation).
[/ QUOTE ]
As a badgehunter whose badge-toon does not have Isolator, Id love the chance to get it too, but in this case, it makes sense not to get it. Some badges are more meaningful when you had to do something above and beyond to get them. Illusionist also springs to mind, but the difference with Isolator (and Jail Bird) is that these are designed for the true Explorer personalities. These folks went above and beyond that requested of them by their contacts by exploring the area and enjoying the zone.
Even if it means Ill never be the ultimate badgehunter, I would prefer these stay as is.

I would like to second the request to reconsider the requirements for the influence badges. I posted a comment about this in the suggestions forum, but I'll make my argument here since this thread is specific to the topic. The requirements for those badges are pretty hefty to begin with, and now with a second type of currency (prestige) added to the game, the rate at which many people earn influence has changed. This is an understandable change to the system, but if many people are playing in SG mode, and therefore gaining less and less influence as they level, I think lowering the requirements for those badges may be in order. I hate to not play in SG mode and not gain prestige for our base, just so I can get a badge. I also know that at some point the two forms of currency will probably balance out, as influence stores are used to help SG members buy their enhancements while running in SG mode, and eventually the only prestige needed may be for rent, and people can start playing SG mode less, to start gaining new stores of influence, but it will be quite some time until the system reaches an equilibrium. I think you also have to realize that many people just start a new character once they reach 50, and with the current requirements it seems you would have to play your level 50 quite frequently to obtain these badges. Were these badges meant to be among the hardest to obtain or were there factors that didn't play out as suspected when their goals were set?
[/ QUOTE ]
Encourages playing your Level 50s for 2,3,4,5 more years. Better to set some really BIG goals than adding more and more tiny goals that are reached in mere days or weeks. The very toughest content should take a LOT of dedication to achieve. These badges, along with the epic damage taken and healing badges, are designed to not be achieved anytime soon. Instead, they are set to be incredible feats.

Why do Masks killed in the high level portal missions not count toward the badge?
[/ QUOTE ]
That mission is in a different dimension. Thus, they dont count.
[ QUOTE ]
So how about lowering that to 10%?

Quite a good idea IMO.

I've killed well over 500 hellions and fires in Steel Canyon and still only have the first fire-fighting badge. Is this a bug or did I misunderstand the requirements for getting the others?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ive gotten the first two firefighting badges with my main badgehunter, and have logged over another 500 Hellion kills and over another 100 fires doused since then. The badgehunting websites list certain numbers for these badges that I feel are nowhere near correct. I will let you know if I ever get the last firefighting badge, but at this time, Im also thinking its bugged.

Why can't we have a list of which Praetorian AVs we *have* defeated, so we know where we are on the badge for Portal Jockey.
I have all of them marked off my own list at home, yet the game disagrees with my tally and I have no choice but to repeat them, starting with any I have only done once.
In theory, I could do all of them again before getting the badge.
The SERVERS know which you have done / haven't done. Why can't we have a LIST?
[/ QUOTE ]
Special badge. Not supposed to be something everyone knows about or strives towards, but instead a special reward for an outstanding job done. Thus, no list.
Same goes for the other badges that contain ??? and no sliders. While frustrating for my OCD side, completely logical as our characters are not supposed to be aware that they are currently earning their way towards some badges.
[ QUOTE ]
Is there a plan for introducing higher level "badges acquired" badges? Will there be a 300 and 400 badges badge?
[/ QUOTE ]
Since it has been stated that badges are here to stay, I would say this is undoubted.

I'm sorry if this was already brought up as I haven't read the thread, but I did want to bring something big up. The Giant Monster spawns for the Kraken, Babbage, Adamastor and Jurrasik seem to come very rarely now or if they do pop up, no one knows that they are there because they are in hazard zones people don't frequent much. Is there a way to get them to spawn more and/or have some indicator for when they do spawn? The events in the city zones are easier to notice because they are traveled frequently, but the special monster spawns aren't so lucky. I know that you're wary about spawning them more since the Winter Lord event, but it would make the badge hunter's life much easier to at least know there might be a spawn sometime during the day or at least know when a monster has spawned or maybe even make triggers for spawning like Caleb and Deathsurge (like defeating the Hydra in Perez will spawn Kraken to defend them or something).

Badgehunting is supposed to be difficult. Thats why its special. Nobodys proud of their Bonesmasher badge anymore for a reason.

Any chance of the Marcone Capo badge for villains (Gangbuster) to have its requirements toned down? Currently it is 200 bosses - bosses that are only half of the possible Family bosses (And I believe the general Family badge only requires 100).
The fact is, that Marcone badge is only readily available in Port Oakes, and the bosses are so spread out, thaat you end up tediously hunting for quite a while. The badge being necessary for the Slot Machine contact exemplifies this problem, especially because the 30+ CoV game is limited on contacts, and you need to do the Slot Machine's missions to reach level 35, unless you want to do mindless PvP and Newspaper missions for a long time.
Also - I am glad to hear that Arbiter Leery is fixed now. I have two 40s who could have used that contact, rather than do a trillion PvP missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, its supposed to be difficult, its supposed to be special (not short-bus special), and its supposed to take extra time to get badges. The Slot Machine is a special contact (short-bus special) presented to those who take this extra time. Its a reward, not an expectation.
[ QUOTE ]
Positron, I'm on the whole very pleased with badges, and I don't want to sound too critical, but I have two questions/concerns:
#1
Some badges have placeholders and some don't (like Isolator, except it's justified). Some badges have counters and some don't (like Mentoring vs. Inf gain, or Lorekeeper in CoV differing from all other history badges). Some badge placeholders have descriptions and some don't (i.e. ???)
Would it be very difficult to make all the badges consistent with each other, all having a placeholder with a description or hint and a counter-bar to tell you how far along you are? I think this would be much appreciated.
#2
Some badges have crazy requirements, and are not just challenging, but boring (i.e. Illusionist). This can't be just because it's got an accolade associated with it, because I soloed Croatoa and got every defeat badge for that accolade in the course of doing regular missions (something that's impossible with the Archmage accolade). Might some badges requirements be reduced like Zookeeper was?
[/ QUOTE ]
1) Some are supposed to be secret badges, kinda like the equivalent of certain levels in Super Mario World. The game can go on without you having them, so its at your discretion to put the time/effort into discovering and getting them. Surprise reward for your time spent
2) Again, impressive reward for dedication.

We do not want to make the missions in the PvP zones go all the way to 50, because then a character could literally spend all his time in that zone, never needing to leave except to visit stores, and that is gameplay we dont want to encourage.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah under the current setup they have to see atleast 4 or 5 zones out of the 14+ zones...not counting zones like Boomtown and Faultline and the Shadow Shard which are generally ghost towns anyway...Once you hit 15 you never have to look at another non-pvp zone...except for traveling from one pvp zone to the other
15-25+ BB, 25-30+ Siren, 35-40+ Warburg...next PvP zone will probably mean you can hit 50 and not go beyond your level 15 contacts...yay for PvP powerleveling...
[ QUOTE ]
Because we can't datamine for these badges. Yes, it's a crappy reason, but if we introduce these badges NOW after almost 2 years, players will complain to high heaven that "Character X should have Badge Y," and there is no way to check.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah that's a horrible excuse...you didn't care about that when you initially put badges into the game.

Art. We'd need new art for the badges and the time window to get new, unplanned, badge art is "not anytime soon"

Well you could reuse badges like you did with the Moonfire an SS TFs which share their badge images with explore badges...or you could use the badge images for damage dealt that have allegedly been pulled from .pigg files and are on display on sites like
CoH Guru which also names the badges...
[ QUOTE ]
You wouldn't, but Poz and I would. We are of the opinion that there are too many tabs there as it is.

Ya know what would rock is if we had a poll for a variety of ideas and whatever the top two or 3 are they get immediately bumped up to the top of the production que so it feels like we have some control over or input with the game we've been playing/following for up to 5 years in some cases...
[ QUOTE ]
Its fixed. Processing your ore will earn you the Gunner badge. Expect this in the next full patch to the Training Room server (basically sometime after Pocket D goes to Live).

Will this be backward rewarded? at the very least to people who still have Shivan Pet Powers?

What about scenario's where a ninth man comes in on a spawn of an exceptionally rare thing like Kraken and does a couple thousand damage or more and doesn't get a badge? It's hard enough to find these without getting screwed out of it because the team didn't have room for a 9th man...

Thanks Positron.
Accolades - we don't seem to have them on the villain side of the game, other then the winter event and respec ones. Will we be seeing these added soon or will it be possible to get the hero accolades for villains?

Issue 7.
[/ QUOTE ]
Any chance that they won't require you to enter PvP to get them? I know atleast one history badge (Swashbuckler) requires you to enter a PvP zone, or two, or three, to get the last plaque or two...or three...but atleast one is in PvE...
Also exactly what % of time must you be in a mission to get the badge? What about TFs? A character can theoretically spend upwards of 10 hours in some cases in a TF workin their butt off only to get screwed out of the badge because they weren't in the last mission long enough (sometimes as little as 10-20 minutes...out of 10 hours)for one reason or another (server stability problems, login server crashes, etc) . As it stands the entire group of 8 could log out and just let 2-3 people run the whole tf then the other 5 log back in on the last mission and get a relatively easy badge...doesn't quite seem fair.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ugh, thisll take awhile.
Availability of PvP zones in every level range from 15 to 50 is good because now anyone Level 15 or above can participate if they so desire. I can also street hunt from Galaxy to Kings Row to Skyway to IP to Brickstown to PI and avoid the major zones of Atlas, Steel, Talos, and Founders if I so desire, but that doesnt mean we should get rid of those zones. More leveling options to the playerbase is a good thing in all circumstances.
While datamining is a crappy excuse, responses like that are one reason devs dont have much to do with the playerbase.
See above statement. Hostility FTW!
You know what would rock? If the devs were to create a game and people would be happy. If the playerbase would enjoy the new content that gets offered, understand that its still not their game, and appreciate the work the creators have put in.
Nah, lets just stick with hostility.
Your statements about how you should help get a say in it because youve followed it for five years is akin to me being the next GM of the Texas Rangers because Ive followed their baseball teams for the last 20 years. Im still holding my breath
No reason to datamine the Ore Processing badge. It aint like you gotta run all four Shadow Shard TFs again for that badge.
Cute analogy with the 9th man. Someone will always lose out. If you take the one-hit=credit approach, then the guy who logged on just as Kraken died missed out just because someone couldnt bother holding him for another 5 minutes. A decision has to be made one way or another. The devs have stated their decision regarding that issue numerous times.
If youre not willing to sacrifice a little bit to get the Accolade, then do without it. I hated farming Master Illusionists too, but I did it. Same with masks, Paragon Protectors, and Ancestor Spirits.
Good question. Covered in first question. Whine. Do it for the Shadow Shard TFs to make them shorter.
[ QUOTE ]
Any possibility that Accolades will be modified to be usable at any level when RSKed? Currently, people who were 50 when they were introduced can't use their Crey Pistol when rsked to level 47, when others can use them much earlier.
While I don't care about PvP, this also brings up the idea of new characters getting useful accolades like Archmage and Vanguard that can be used in PvP zones, while old ones cannot, and never had a chance to try for it. I only bring this up because it seems like PvP issues get a lot of attention.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its possible to get Atlas Medallion, Portal Jockey, and Geas of the Kind Ones prior to Level 15. Archmage and Freedom Phalanx can be gotten after Level 20 (DA Security Clearance I believe). Vanguard requires an Explore badge in RCS.
Either way, earlier usage is a reward for earlier dedication to being an Explorer. My main cant use most of his Accolades prior to Level 50, but this is a rather trivial matter as they dont make THAT much of a difference in most cases.
