Pretty much that... *We* were asked if we want TS and HD removed. *We* do. We want it for the sake of being able to have fun in Zone PvP again. If it brings player back, great. The more competent players, the more fun to be had.

Honey Badgers don't give a sh** about Captains.

Quote:Are you serious? This thread was made in response to the lead community representative expressly asking if we want HD and TS removed. So you think we should not answer and instead ask for new things that cost development time, which is the main excuse the Devs use to NOT work on PvP.Still mute points and repeated opinions... If a PvE'r complains about PvP... we simply tell them that it's not mandatory and to avoid it if they don't like it, but you tell a PvPer that TS/HD is not mandatory and to avoid it if they don't like it... well they go on about how everyone shouldn't have to deal with it based on their own definition of fun... Go figure?
The best argument you all stood to have would've happened back when they allowed the removal of TS and HD in arena (I15?). If every PvPer started and continued playing arena (and ignoring zones) because of the no TS/HD option there... it would be easy to say/prove that everyone, or most everyone prefers those mechanics. However, it's admitted/accepeted that arena/KB is inconsistent day to day while RV/zone (Freedom) is not.
Ironically, because I know of most of you all too well... is the fact that if the Devs hadn't added those options to arena until say... I21, most of you all (that stayed) would be the first to call out peeps for demanding those setting to PvP now... having had no choice but to accept the current system...call yourselves awesome, and condemn anyone who prefers to do it differently than you.
Going forward, you're best bet is to avoid silly attempts to campaign the removal of 2+ year old mechanics, and instead embrace them so you can suggest additions to the game that may make them bearable for you (i.e. proliferating /Posion and creating Time Manip. instead of nerfing /Regens and adding useful Incarnates instead of nerfing Psy/ Blasters' Damage spikes etc)
Again, we, as a community, were asked specifically how we would feel about the removal of HD and TS. How is discussing the removal of HD and TS not warranted? -
A Guide to Diminishing Returns
Understanding DR takes a lot of effort/time. That is on top of understanding the mechanics of this game in the first place. -
Not really, no. Diminishing Returns is a system implemented with i13. For Controllers or other squishy classes (Corr, Defender, Blaster, MM) it is not mathematically possible (according to the DR curve for that attribute) to get defense much higher than 20%. This much defense is easily erased by a foe's to-hit and accuracy buffs. Versus a poorly built enemy without a to-hit buff, you may see their to-hit rolls drop to as low as 30%, but that would be an exceptionally luck situation for a PFF user.
Typically, you will just die through PFF if your foes are determined. -
Defense sucks (for squishies).. Diminishing Returns makes sure of that. Holds are irresistible. After a player is mezzed, he is immune to mez for several seconds. A decent spike will kill someone in < .5 seconds.

Again, I made this thread to highlight that the majority of the community does not want TS/HD in their current form. Although many may argue that some form of them would be good to have, it is reasonable to say that if choosing between what we have now and removing TS/HD, we would be better off removing them.
It is most likely that the Devs are not willing to put a large amount of work into PvP. That is generally understood, but there are many fixes to PvP that could be completed in a very short amount of time. Bug fixes take dedicated coding time. New maps take some time to cut from PvE maps (lol). But HD/TS? If it is as simple as turning them off, then turn them off. That would be one step in the right direction, and would also make zone PvP much more playable to a lot of people. -
Quote:You just didn't even read the OP did you? I bring up this subject because A) The community was asked by our lead representative to the developers (Zwillinger) how they would feel about this change if it were to hypothetically happen, and B) Because TS and HD are truly bad mechanics. It has been explained in several different ways in this thread alone why that statement is true. You suggest that people should be complacent just because they have been around for years. That is a horrible suggestion. One should not be complacent with something simply because it exists. If it sucks, get rid of it.Makes about as much sense as assuming everyone who doesn't like the current system are all bad unless they arena with TS and HD turned off.
Unless a person has been stuck in a box for a few years... TS and HD shouldn't be an issue or have that much of an impact on one's PvP experience.
Complaining about it these days is no differrent than whining about phase, hibernate, inspirations, Psy/Ems and KM/ scrappers.
Bottomline is if you don't like TS and HD (as another poster pointed out) then just stick to arena where you have the option to PvP without them. -
Travel Suppression in the way it was implemented is horrible. It nullifies the effects of movement slows and punishes you for doing... anything. Also, melee already have ways to stop kiting (see: web grenades) Heal Decay gives you basically 1 option as a healer: Watch your teammates die. Damage spam just wins with Heal Decay on. There is only 1 counter play: Phase/Hiber; and that has a no phase timer, so it only works 1 time every 2 minutes. Why should you have to die if you have a healer on target? (unless the enemy offense beats the healer to the target and kills them too quickly; spiking) Aside from all that, a counter to healers has been added: Poison.
These are just some of the reasons the game is better off without HD/TS in their current state. -
The question was recently brought up in Freedom Arena Chat (I know.) of how the community would feel about removing Heal Decay and Travel Suppression. I feel as though it is blindingly obvious that the vast majority of the PvP community hates TS and HD.
The way I understand it is that turning off TS and HD is a simple matter of toggling them off. If that is true, what is stopping the developers from removing them? Fear of lash back from the community who complain about any changes? Maybe... but I don't think most people would cry to see these two mechanics gone. Not only are they poorly designed and implemented, but they are generally un-fun as mechanics, which is exactly what one does not want in a video game.
So, I ask you, the community, to tell the developers in a calm and civil manner that: "Yes, we want you to remove Travel Suppression and Heal Decay."
Note that "/signed" type posts "do not engender constructive discussion" or whatever the forum rules say, so please, discuss why this is a good or bad idea. Also note that this topic is about as dead as horses get,but that's ok, because the Devs don't seem to have heard our answers before. -
/fire has no perception power... You will need at least 1 of 2: Focused Accuracy from Epic pools or Tactics from Leadership.
-
And use smaller attacks to charge Power Siphon to make CS even more OP.
-
I have a great idea ! Someone should find a way to combine broken PFF power with noob phase power. That would be sooooooo pro !
-
@AresSupreme, Psy has delayed damage, and scourge is calculated when you fire your attack. Also, Psy is only particularly good when paired with other psy damage.

Quote:ig·no·rance/ˈignərəns/@ velo... I requested help, so you see i´m not that ignorant, and i don´t know it all. You on the other side are just not fine with the fact that i disagree on one freakin point with you. THAT is ignorance.
Noun: Lack of knowledge or information
You are wrong again. Synonymously, you are proven to be ignorant again. (It's ironic how many people are ignorant of the meaning of the word ignorant)
Aside from that, you seem to be looking for powers that are fun, not powers that are good. If that is the case, go ahead and pick Total Focus (but don't be surprised when you die every time you use it around enemies that are even semi-knowledgeable).
Otherwise, stop pretending like you are not wrong, accept that you are wrong, take the advice of those who are right, get better. -

I am sure many people with an elementary understanding of the code language they use could do a lot to balance PvP. Aside from that, TS and HD are even easier... they can literally press a few buttons and disable it.

You are not softcapped to anything in PvP; not even close. You are better off building for max HP, defensive wise, for PvP (since HP is not reduced by Diminishing Returns). If you check the PvP Zones/PvP Arena forums (the other sub-forum of the PvP boards) you may see that there is a recently active topic in which Mr Liberty posted a good, cheap Nrg/EM blaster build. Check that out and read what people have said if you are interested in getting some quick insight into PvPing on that blaster.
edit: and this is the link: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=3908345 -
But ask them if they are going to act on any of those ideas and be met with silence.

I challenge Smallz !
-
That's not actually true, but he means that you should not build for it. It is difficult to get a meaningful amount of defense on a blaster, and even if you do get it, to-hit buffs (such as Aim) will mostly nullify your defense. About the only time defense will be effective on a blaster is if you have a lot of it (PFF) and your foe does not have to-hit buffs, or is to-hit debuffed. Even then, they may still hit you about 30-60% of the time depending on their Accuracy bonuses.

Energy is somewhat significantly inferior to Fire Blast, but not very. Fire has a slightly lower base/minimum damage on its attacks compared to other sets, but it also has a large chance for additional damage in the form of DoTs. Fire Blast also boasts Blaze which has a 1 second animation time for its very high base damage. Energy/EM can certainly work for zone. You just have to be careful not to plant with the long animation on Power Burst.
As far as Psy/em goes, it is especially effective when paired with other psy blasters who are coordinated (e.g., 8v8 arenas) because the delayed damage on its attacks allows 3 attacks to land almost simultaneously on the target. However, zone is more often than not Damage Spam Central. Fire, IMO, is the best at damage spam. If you and your friends want to roll psy/ems together, you could do quite well in zone when you play together. BTW, attack chain for Psy is typically Will Dom -> Psi Dart -> TK Blast.
If you do roll a blaster, I would recommend getting Cold Mastery for the self heal in Frostworks. Snow Storm from cold mastery is also often used to keep an enemy in Travel Suppression. Even if you choose another epic, get the Destiny: Rebirth incarnate, as it is ridiculously overpowered and will heal you from near death to near full if you spec down the right-side of the tree (for regen). (be careful about using destiny in combination with other heals such as Respites or possibly Frostworks, as it is affected by Heal Decay) -
