Wants to make a PvP toon.

I think i actually want to make a toon for only pvping. A few of my friends and I went to RV yesterday for badges and I just so happened to kill a few people with me pve nrg/nrg blaster. I've always avoided pvp cause i always thought it was for hardcore pvpers only.

So, what is the most effective build for pvp? I've heard that stalkers are very good and can annoy people. Or should i roll another blaster? Any advice is appreciative!

Psi/Em blaster

Lots of guides for both in this forum, just use some search-fu.

And it really depends on what you like to do, damage, support, debuff, disruption. There are options for each.

OLD SCHOOL PvP
Rad/Psi,Psi/Em,Fire/Em,Cld/Sonic,FF/Sonic,Grav/Ta,Storm/Psi,Sp/WP,Fire/Psi,Sonic/Pain
RIP:Southern Comfort PvP,PE PvP,INTEGRITY PvP,After School Special PvP Test SG's,TPvPL Season1+2 Runner ups

start with a blaster. Starting on melee toons generally get you into worse habits about planting and evading and what have you. Pretty much any blaster can be good in zones if it has /em as the secondary. Probably the best RV ones are Psi Fire and Sonic.

Hardcore PvP is mainly found in arena. Anyone can have fun/success in zones. Also, any AT and power combo can have fun/success in zones. Use your brain and I'm sure you'll be fine.
ANYTHING is "capable" in zones. It's more a matter of player ability than toon ability imho.
I've had success/fun on toons that most folks said I'd get pwned on or were extremely sub par by PvP standards. Don't worry so much about the "perfect" AT and combo. Worry about what you are comfortable and decent at playing. Besides, I think there are enough psi/em blasters and FOTM's to last until 2050? Dare to be different?

It's all about experience and what you want to play. Energy/energy blaster can be good. Energy blast has slower animation times but the attacks hit *slightly* harder I believe. Most people just stick to spamming quick psi blasts which is old. Be different! Just get out there and start pvping on it using your second or third builds. Learn the rules and mechanics of pvp by getting owned/owning others. Team up with people or have friendly arena duels just for fun. Also never stand still on the ground... stalkers love that.

Energy is somewhat significantly inferior to Fire Blast, but not very. Fire has a slightly lower base/minimum damage on its attacks compared to other sets, but it also has a large chance for additional damage in the form of DoTs. Fire Blast also boasts Blaze which has a 1 second animation time for its very high base damage. Energy/EM can certainly work for zone. You just have to be careful not to plant with the long animation on Power Burst.

As far as Psy/em goes, it is especially effective when paired with other psy blasters who are coordinated (e.g., 8v8 arenas) because the delayed damage on its attacks allows 3 attacks to land almost simultaneously on the target. However, zone is more often than not Damage Spam Central. Fire, IMO, is the best at damage spam. If you and your friends want to roll psy/ems together, you could do quite well in zone when you play together. BTW, attack chain for Psy is typically Will Dom -> Psi Dart -> TK Blast.

If you do roll a blaster, I would recommend getting Cold Mastery for the self heal in Frostworks. Snow Storm from cold mastery is also often used to keep an enemy in Travel Suppression. Even if you choose another epic, get the Destiny: Rebirth incarnate, as it is ridiculously overpowered and will heal you from near death to near full if you spec down the right-side of the tree (for regen). (be careful about using destiny in combination with other heals such as Respites or possibly Frostworks, as it is affected by Heal Decay)

This is great! I small team of us went to RV for the badges and we were holding our own against the other team. Which is impressive since we were pve(ers) and they were probably built more for pvp(ing). I was using my Nrg/Nrg blaster. So, i'll prob stick to that guy since he is softcapped for certain defenses. Plus, he's my main anyways

You are not softcapped to anything in PvP; not even close. You are better off building for max HP, defensive wise, for PvP (since HP is not reduced by Diminishing Returns). If you check the PvP Zones/PvP Arena forums (the other sub-forum of the PvP boards) you may see that there is a recently active topic in which Mr Liberty posted a good, cheap Nrg/EM blaster build. Check that out and read what people have said if you are interested in getting some quick insight into PvPing on that blaster.
