I have a stone /em tanker. before the change, it was a fast moving st set. Now it is a slow set that frankly isnt much fun to play. My tanker was my only purpled out toon. he sits mostly unused now. I found many times I would hit et, wait for the animation only to watch a scrapper or blaster kill my target before the attack finished. They killed the target, I took the damage from et for no good reason. I have shelved my only 50 tank and run blasters, controllers or scrappers these days.

My first 50, eng/fire blaster would have been a fire/em blaster. or fire/fire.

Quote:Have you thought about getting therapy? you should.nice lousy attempt of passive-aggressiveness. The only "name-calling" you can accuse me of is calling you a "n00b". Well, isnt THAT obvious? Isnt that the whole reason why you started this thread, and EVERY n00b that starts this very same thread? Im not sure how you can complain about something that is obviously factual, and what you define yourself within this thread in your own words.
Im not really impressed by your "claimed" track record, which really doesnt matter at all. Going back to the reason this very thread even exists (yet again). Clarification, just for your Pride's sake since you felt you needed to state your record - Yes, i think you're a Def n00b. No, i didnt mean for it to sound like you're a n00b altogether. Yes, i figured you've played other AT's before - well, its safe to assume if you got a 50 in something, you're gonna have a 50 in something else too and more....
Anyways, and yes - i did share a good few things to you. Become a Corruptor or plz click on my Sonic Attack Chain thread.....
Umm, did YOU read and listen?
More information/knowledge for you.....
*READ THROUGH THE DEFENDER'S FORUM TO EDJUMACATE YOURSELF!!!!
its there for a fracking reason.....
*If you did, you'd learn from MANY others how to amplify a Defender's damage (ie - using -Resist debuffs that MOST defender primaries have, also Ancillary power buffs, Assault [which Defenders get & give the highest damage buff from]).
If still quite confuzzled about all this - ive realized you cant squeeze blood out of a lemon. And if you feel a Defender is a lemon, you obviously cant either. And if you need to see the BIG numbers and data for proof, ya know, its not too late to click on this....

I am also interested in suggestions of IO slotting to maximize damage for my defenders. I have in the past made a toon that took no powers that did not effect me. It was an interesting build that ticked people off when the defender didnt have candy for them. -
Quote:It is the Fyflot(sp) if i remember from my SCA heralding days. And it is a peace symbol.I find it hilarious that the term is considered insulting now. If you refer to someone as a negro you are being degrading, but refering to them as being black is acceptable.
It's hilarious because the two words mean the exact same thing. "Negro" is the Spanish word for the color black, which is where the term originated from in the first place. So if you call someone a negro, you are calling them black. Which, generally speaking, they are. The other N word is offensive, largely because it is a perversion of an actual word, specifically intended to be degrading. It has no place in the language because it was never a real word.
For the record, I am not racist or prejudiced in any way shape or form. I just think it's funny that a word that is synonymous with an accepted term in a different language is considered offensive. I don't use it myself, but there is nothing wrong with the word, in and of itself, just with the stigma attached to it. I also don't use African-American largely because not all dark skinned people of African descent live in America, so they are by definition NOT African American. The only people who are truly African-American are African immigrants who are now American citizens. If they were born and raised in America, they are Americans, simple as that, skin color is irrelevant and not an indication of nationality.
Also,if you see a swastika nowadays you immediately think of persecution and intolerance. Very few people realize that it was originally a symbol of peace and harmony that was perverted by the Nazis for their own ends. They apparently figured that using a symbol associated with good things would blind people to their true intentions, and it didn't work. So, now a symbol that was originaly a good thing is irrevocably tied to one of the most evil and distasteful things to ever occur in our history. The Maltese cross is another thing they took, which most people know as an Iron cross. It doesn't really mean what people usually think it does.
(the original swastika was the other way around, when the Nazis adopted it they reversed it. I'm not even entirely sure if "swastika" is the corerect name for it, or just what the Nazis called it, someone better versed in history than I will have to answer that)
Just a couple prime examples of perception being more powerful than truth. -
people ask "are you a real girl/boy?"
what does it matter. I'm a real player in a game. we arent here for hanky panky, or propagating the species. Why do they need to decide if she is a real girl, a gay man, a lesbian woman or a bisexual biker? Those question have no place in the game. My wife plays, I have had to tell people that yes, she is a real girl. I think I would know.
PS.. anyone that wouldnt play with someone because of their sex or orientation has bigger problems than can be solved in a game. -
Quote:Doesnt matter to me if you are man, woman or ardvark. I want to defeat npcs with you, not mate with you.I'm going to make an effort to merge the OP's topic with the other topic that mysteriously popped up in this thread.
On teams, I usually have no problem with being referred to according to the gender of my character, since they're all female and so am I (this was a decision I made on purpose to avoid the kind of confusion that could result from me playing a male character). However, since this is a computer game, and since computer games have a higher percentage of male players than female players, I occasionally run into someone insisting that I'm a guy, even after I tell them I'm not.
Why do they do this? They don't know me in RL, so how would they know? I'm around my dad and my brother more than my mom (even though we all live in the same house), so sometimes I "sound" like a guy. I'm also fairly into sci-fi movies and books (although not the military sci-fi books), which leads some to dispute my proclaimed gender (there are several other facts that would "rule against" my femininity, but I don't want this post to be my usual wall of text). I've had several people conclude that I'm a gay guy, and even one who was sure that I "used to be a guy". This gives me endless headaches when it happens, and usually leads to me leaving the team.
So please, if someone corrects your use of their gender-specific pronoun when you're on a team with them, use what they want you to. Don't insist that they're not what they say they are. You just end up looking like a jerk. -
Also remember that those prereq's fir travel powers can be slotted with things like anti-kb IO's. Useful to put a LOTG or the like in one.

Quote:There are missions that award the clicker temp powers and inf. only the clicker. Dont click the glowies without at least some permission. Wait to click till all are in the mission. I have kicked people from teams because of this. One guy runs across 2 zones to go to the contact and some jerk doesnt even let him get in the mission before clicking.Completing the mission is the expected behavior of this game. This isn't a matter of ettiquette. 99.999999999% of the time you will complete the mission. It is only that one farming mission that you wouldn't click the glowies.
And in that case, it is clearly the responsibility of the holder to state that anomoly. No one is going to play every mission in this game without taking the steps to complete it just because of a few farmers like to hoard their 'soon to be added timed' missions.
Actual etiquette examples that come up constantly:
Letting the tank do his job. Don't throw immobs until he grabs aggro. Don't throw AOEs til he has aggro. It takes him 2 seconds to grab all of the aggro in a nice neat pile, so give him that courtesy.
Tanks letting their teammates do their jobs. Don't take a nicely placed mob and string them out 50 feet just because you feel like taunting. It is OK to jump in that pack. You have an entire team supporting you. Get in there and grab aggro and it will all be over soon. -
Quote:According to penny, mez protection IS an i win button. She said so. If is not worth all that much, what is the problem of having a watered down version available? If it is that valuable, what exactly did the scrapper give up to get it? High damage? he has that. My spines scrapper has just as much ability to affect a mezzer from range as my fire blaster. Impale is an immobilize also. Not to mention slows. So should I feel that it should be just as easy for a team of 8 scrappers to finish a MoSTF as it is for a team of 8 controllers, or 8 defenders? Should I feel that AV's should die just as fast with a team of 8 blasters
as it would on a team of 8 tankers? Seriously. It's an MMO. There's going to be some combinations better at somethings. Get used to it. Mez protection isn't an I win button. It doesn't automatically mean scrappers can solo x8 missions. All it means is that they don't have much to worry about solo, but in my experience, there isn't much anyone has to worry about solo. So what if a scrapper does it faster? Why does that matter? If you're a defender you bring more to a team. Does that mean a scrapper need to be team oriented too?
Holy crap! A solo oriented AT solos better than team oriented AT's! Whatever shall I do?
Mez protection isn't an I win button and no, I'm not sharing. -
Quote:so you are allowed to put words in other peoples mouths but not us..I see.Right, because only certain players have access to melee ATs. I'll remind you, you're the same person that asked how a Blaster without a hard control deals with mezz. Which was hilarious.
as far as the blaster, my fire fire come up on a chief mentalist and 2 minions. I put ring of fire on chief. he laughs at pitiful damage and mezzes me. i have 2 light weight attacks while the other 2 render me down to mulch. wow. How does ring of fire prevent him from mezzing again? -

Quote:Is that any different than the 8-man soloist melees you mentioned?
not a bit. My point was that IO's make a huge difference when we talk about the ability to solo and the actual power of a toon. The AT determines what sets you can use but other than that, IO'd or not IO'd is a bigger difference. -
Quote:Are those IO'd to the gill squishies? probably. Part of the problem here is when someone says" a blaster solo'd the itf.a scrapper soloed a GM or whatever" Is it the class that is over powered or the IO"s? Double perma domination. things like this throw all sorts of complications into game balance. I doubt they will nerf IO's the way they would have to to bring this in line. Should they balance the game around billion inf blaster/scrappers? I hope not.I'd be down for a melee/IO nerf, right after they change the fact that team-oriented ATs with non-passive status protection are capable of soloing larger spawns more quickly than any melee AT, and capable of soloing AVs and GMs much more easily.
Something's getting lost in the equation here if people are saying melee ATs are too good because a select few with awesome builds can do things like face x8 spawns, when squishy ATs, who some people in this thread say are too difficult to play solo, can do that and much more. -
I am beginning to think melee toons shouldn't be able to solo those mobs. IO's have made them too powerful and they need to be taken down a few notches. They are the reason we hear "the game is too easy". when in reality it is easy for certain toons in certain circumstances.

Because wow has published real content in the last 2 years. because wow will be upgrading their minimum graphics and the entire game world with cataclysm. Because wow is a brontasaurus among pygmies. Because wow keeps a hitsquad of nonvegetarian hamsters to attack those that dis them.

Quote:Have a graduated mez protection rating. If a melee has 0 team members they get x amount of mez prot. if there are 2-4 they get y amount. 5-7 they get z amount. 8 members they get 3 time z. Make teaming beneficial for all toons, not just the squishies. They should seriously look at the defender inherent. Make it something that rewards good defender play instead of poor. This would revitalize teaming and help make COX a more interactive place instead of being split between those that can handle +4 x8 spawns and the gimps. What part of "melee toons cannot function without passive mez protection" is so hard to understand?
It is always preferable to avoid the damage rather than take it. Would you rather take 100 damage, or none at all? Anyone with sense would say none at all....that's exactly how much a competently played controller will take in a solo situation.
Sure, a tank can get beaten silly all day long and walk away fine. A controller can handle the same mob without even getting their tights dirty.
So, who's the better hero? The guy who took a beating with a smile? Or the guy who never even got touched?
Oh, and the idea of taking passive protection form melee ATs and giving them defiance? That is the STUPIDEST idea I've heard yet in this thread.
Oh, I can use my tier 1 and 2 attacks? How the HELL does that help me when I'm getting chain mezzed from 50 frigging feet away?!? -
Quote:What if both of those things? What if you had Rad Emissions yet still had to run into melee?
Many Defenders/Corruptors live in melee, anyways. It's also worth noting that I'd love a Melee/Debuff AT.
Mostly, though, I just wish that enemies had been made "difficult" through other means. That's really all I want.
That might make the scrappers and brutes among us feel no quite so uber. The game wouldnt be so easy for them and we cant have that. -
Quote:It isnt that hard. On a team your scrapper gets mez protection. Solo, he get none or maybe a lesser level. The same way buffs for kheldians work. My scrappers have plenty of ways of dealing with mezzers tyvm. Or, while solo, make some of those buffs that only work on team members, work on self. That way my emp can actually use some of that primary effectively. And that multiplicative effect works on the rest of the team. Since my cold defender cant shield herself, they dont do diddly squat for me.Then scrappers and tankers who aren't defense (as opposed to resist ro regen based) based in this system become completely neutered solo. Especially scrappers go from strong solo to very weak solo because they don't have two powersets with tools to deal with mezzing opponents. So now we have a situation where squishies who all usually do much better than scrappers on a team because of their multiplicative effect, or just because they do SO much more damage (blasters) solo just as well as scrappers do, and in many cases a damn sight better.
How is that balanced?
I also wouldnt mind seeing the aggro cap be increased for teamed tanks. Maybe some dynamics that benefit teamed toons over solo toons. -
Quote:and this is the statement that shows you know nothing of mezzes. give squishies a little mez then up the mez capability of the enemies. you do realize that by doing this it trivializes the mez protection you just gave squishies correct?
give up already. the devs will NEVER change the game to suit 1 or 2 people who have decided not to change their tactics when playing on squishy toons.
Can we question the status quo without being heretics? Or are you part of the pitchfork and torches crowd?
I dont expect them to run out and change the game to suit me. But discussing it does not include calling people names and attacking their intelligence. The game is too easy for some, they need to be nerfed to bring them down to the level of others. At least that is what we were told when EM was nerfed into the stone age. -
Quote:Maybe situational mez protection is the answer. On a team the melee toons get it, solo they dont. Challenge restored.Having played an FF controller on LGTF, and a traps defender on LGTF, the only thing that ever happens to me is that I get slept, which makes sense, I have a sleep hole. What doesn't happen? I don't get stunned, held, or immoblized. That's with mag 4 protection. Mag 4 (and probably mag 3) is enough to deal with the majority of the mez in a solo situation. I can only think of a handful on enemies that overwhelm it and the ones that do tend to overwhelm scrapper protection as well.
And the scrapper and the tanker? They're expected in a team situation to absorb something like 95% of the damage between them AND they're accompanying mezzes. That's why their mez protection is so high. -
Quote:So instead of having to deal with challenges, it's less boring to fight threatless mobs and have no danger in encounters.
Okay. You're either trying way too hard to be a caricature or there literally is no hope with you.
But because I love feeding the cycle...
Let's define the reverse: What do you want out of a challenge? In specific terms, no platitudes.
Scrappers already fight threatless mobs. They make 90% of the content trivial. Should they be adjusted? I personally dont think so, but YMMV.
Will you be Hero or hero support? You choose. -
