I can't reproduce your error here on a relatively recent Hewlett-Packard 3-in-1 scanner. There's a few forum posts and whatnot saying "you can't scan money," but you have to dig through Google pretty good to find them. I.e., it appears to be just an internet rumor.

Hm. I can't even share a screenshot, because my scanner is in storage right now
Yup, kinda like Bigfoot and Area 51, the clear photo with proof is always in some other bag, got lost, or was mysteriously ruined.

P.S. I just scanned a $20, because one of those internet rumor sites said it only checks for bills over $2. The $20 looks great.

I'll bet you a dollar you're wrong. Here's a brand new scan of a bill in my wallet, which I did about 60 seconds ago:

Never blame super smart AI in your software for what can adequately be explained by PEBCAK. (Also, that is one huge bill.)
  3. I'm a Champion player too and I agree it's a great server. However, I doubt it's going to be very busy at 8:00 AM Pacific time.

When you log in to the game, the servers are listed in order from the least busy at the top, to the most busy at the bottom. The list actually goes by server load, not population per se, but there's a pretty strong correspondence between server load and population.

You may wish to log in a few times when you expect to play, and take a look at that server list. The servers at the very bottom are going to be the most busy and therefore might be the best servers for you. It is worth considering and checking out, imo.

Champion is great, and if you play in the evening for East coast time or early evening West coast (USA) time, there's tons of folks on, and most of us are very helpful. At 8:00 AM, we tend to be still bleary-eyed from last nights raiding, and fumbling around for our first cup of coffee.

    VIP Starter Kit

Assuming you live close, you could walk up to your friends and hand them a dollar bill with "VIP Starter Kit" written on it. (Gov't doesn't like you defacing their money, but also not a lot they can do about it.)

Maybe scan a dollar (or get a pic?) and photoshop "VIP Starter Kit" on it and email it out to remind people. Etc. If the NC Soft store won't provide, we'll do our own gifting.

Has anyone actually calculated the PPM rate of a power that has a 90% chance to fire instead of a 100% chance? I suspect it might be less than folks expect.

Yeah, some of the procs kind of boggle my mind. Perhaps the thinking was that if you used it on a target that was resistant to or protected from Fear, then the Stun might mez the target anyway and therefore be useful. It's kind of the theory that "more mez is always good."

Making UnspkTerr into a short duration Fear proc might make sense. Then it would stack with your Fear and therefore you'd have a chance at basically +1 to the magnitude of the Fear.

Right, and the EQ guys where old MUD programmers, and they used a lot of the same ideas and terms.

Arguably, with a 20% proc rate, the proc always happens, it's just that what always happens is a 1-in-5 chance of doing damage. :P
This is my understanding as well. It comes from the name of the field in the old MUD code (DikuMUD, I think), where you could attach a "procedure" to an item that would run when the item was used or similar. The procedure always ran when the item was used, but typically it "rolled a die" and determined a random chance for something to happen.

It isn't really important, but I kinda hate it when people muck up perfectly easy to understand history.
  11. Hmm, I notice that in that article, she says she has a hard time getting past the character creator. Would it be bad to point out all the costume packs that have been released, and that you can look at all of those packs in the character creator even if you haven't bought them?

OK, I'll actually try to be helpful with this one. If she has costume-itis, she can bypass the costume creator if she saves a costume on one character and then loads it on another. She can visit Ms. Liberty to freshen up her costume, save one current costume she likes right there in Atlas Park, then quickly create a new AT for the article and load the same costume in a flash.

Gotta agree with running DFB three or four times right off the bat. It's fun, and will get you powers and levels fast, which is helpful when your trying to get your article written quickly.

Question is, where do we send her next: Montegue in Steel? Start her on Frosty's arc in Hollows? Skyway? Faultline? Or RP with the cat girls in Pocket D?

"Effectively" does not mean "is." The alpha slot is effected by ED, so it's not actually global. It's effectively an additional enhancement.

I like this idea. Although I think it should be limited to new entrants. I.e., when you first enter a zone, you see the hero or villain view until you do some basic missions, then you can see all players.

But it would make a nice intro to have the zone change after you enter, with only players on your side until you get a little further into the zone's story.

Or allow Heroes to visit the new redside zone, which is what I favor. (Mostly because it increases the chances of redside getting a good solid revamp, which it needs in many places.)

This idea gets a big, big, thumbs up from me. Make it so, devs! (Anyone want to champion this idea at the Pummit?)
  17. In addition, you can hit the Mastermind forums here and check out their guides for the various pet commands and binds (stickied at the top of those forums in the guides section). These should work in exactly the same way for lore pets as they do for mastermind pets. At least, my MM binds seem to work for my Lore pets.

If you have additional questions, post up here or in the MM forums, they should be able to help you too!

    EDIT: guides, not guilds....

    Forum hiccups?

Yeah, the forums are ... different.

They need programmin' love, but NC Soft doesn't seem to want their Seattle team to put the time into fixin' stuffs. I'm not sure why, but that's the best we are able to determine from the customer side of things.
  19. I'd bet on a Memorial Day (end of May) release date myself.

Hey, that's good. Infectious Diseases could be the next Corruptor secondary.

    Player: *achoo* Sorry. *sniff*
You hit Minor Minion with Bird Flu!
    You have defeated Minor Minion!!
    You receive 225 experience points!

  21. Second thought: Don't you get the options to take several Cimerorans with you to help? I think that's the "solo option." Ask for help when Sister Solaris offers it.

Why would I have to what? Sorry, didn't understand that comment.

If you're talking about players second guessing developers' time and costs, yeah I'm saying it's not possible. That was the point.

If you are Free/Preem then the whole "Free Points" concept doesn't apply, right? So your idea that "they wouldn't know" in no way affects my argument. They don't have any free points to save, period. This whole argument is over "why aren't things free for VIP?" Not "why aren't things free for Free/Preem." You've sort of missed the whole point with that comment.

So, which do you save for first? It's your choice. You control how you spend points, and you get to decide which you get first, second and third.

All VIP have access to the beta and test servers, and to the beta forums. If they just weren't looking... so they save points for two months, then buy it. No big deal.

You always get more free points, so if you do miss something, or there's more than you can afford released in a short time frame, you just save up for a while. It's not hard, either as a concept or to actually do.
  24. Is that Sister Solaris's arc? I soloed it on my T3 Mastermind (Bots/FF) but it weren't easy. The whole time I was thinking "This would be really hard on any other toon."

Tankers would probably be really slow, but possible to solo. Brutes and scrappers would probably be the best, although if not sturdily built they might have problems. Anything else... I can't see it with any degree of reason. Lots of trips to the hospital and lots of Insp.

The problem here is that "it really is a matter of how much time and money," something we have no visibility into. What's too much for free? I really can't tell by looking at a power or animation how much time was spent creating (or refining, or debugging) it. Nor can I tell which ones require new "tech" (is that shorthand for "software engineering?").

I understand, I think, the desire by players to quantify how a thing should cost, but really we're just making guesses, and usually pretty wild guesses at that.

I don't think it's just that the animations for the powers themselves are difficult, but I think interfacing a two-handed rig into all the other animations in game (walk, run, ninja run, fly, probably a bunch more). I think the main issue is there there is often a lot of behind the scenes work to get something out, which doesn't affect it directly but still has to be present. Otherwise it's just not going to work, or it'll be half-arsed in some way.
