  1. Was only interested in pairing up the "psionic" primary and secondary for concept. Guess that explains why I can't find any in-game.
  2. Looks fun, looks thematic, but can't find any players with experience playing them, let alone any online guides.

1). How well does this combo perform solo?

    2). Steep learning curve?

3). Anyone care to post a levelling build example? Flight is my preferred travel power.

    DP question

Umm....sorry, when you said you had a DP question, I thought you meant something else....

    DM/DA vs. Kat/WP

See? I've owned the game for 4 years, and I don't even know what global channel windows or hidden even means :P

I played some on victory. Got a TON of multiple blind invites by people who just wanted to pick fights. I guess being hidden, or anonymous, alleviates that.

Seems to me like none of the servers are as populated as they used to be, not even Freedom. Have yet to see a costume contest in Atlas anywhere yet, so far

Here's a thing. Redraw annoys me. Seems like the big + about WP is no redraw, yes? Does Boxing cause redraw? Mojo's Guide's levelling sample build has it in there, but maybe just for tough/weave?

I didn't really mention Dual Blades because I assume the combo aspect automatically makes it less newbie-friendly than Katana. Am I correct in this highly baseless assumption?

    DM/DA vs. Kat/WP

    Thanks for the replies, fellows!!

    Kat/DA I've read a lot about. Can't justify a concept. Personally, if I could generate auras of darkness, I wouldn't even fool with a sword...know what I mean? :P

Oh, here's another question. With a natural origin, are any missions wholly problematic for katana damage? Maybe I should rephrase: which villain groups are highly resistant to lethal?

    DM/DA vs. Kat/WP

Every year or so I reinstall CoH, reactivate my account, play for about a week and get frustrated with the gameplay, learning curve, and in-game immaturity (which is unfair since it IS a kid's genre game) and unsubscribe.

It's that time of year again.

Looking at scrapper AT because I don't have the time or patience to group a whole lot. I have a top-notch concept for a dark/dark/dark scrapper (as well as what I consider to be the best up-to-date player-made guide on the forums...thanks Desmondes), but each time I've tried CoH I've tried DM/DA and hated it, mainly due to the downtime per endurance-hungry DA powers.

I played a Katana/Regen scrapper years ago, and I liked katana well enough, but didn't really like Regen.

I haven't played WP at all. I hear good things about both, particularly for newbies, which I am, despite several months of playtime (there's a lot about this game I don't understand even after reading all the FAQ stickies). I can come up with a natural origin concept for Katana/WP with no problems.

So I've narrowed it down to DM/DA or Kat/WP. Keep in mind I'm coming back with little to no understanding of the game anymore, zero influence (I'm sure I gave it all away or eventually got swindled during a transfer, who knows?) and absolutely no clue what a mid is. Out of those two builds:

1). Which has a smoother newbie learning curve?

2). Which is better for primarilly solo levelling?

3). Which has a longer shelf-life at end game?

4). Which has less downtime? (I have a GUESS on this one, but I'd rather hear it from someone else)

5). Probably most important to my situation, which costs less to make a playable toon as far as enhancements go?

I'm not exactly worried about top-notch uberness or AV killing (let's face it, I probably couldn't kill an AV with the best AV build in the game), I'm just trying to level a toon to 50, something I haven't been able to do in CoH in, what, 6 years?
  7. I need a LOT of help with slotting for your levelling build please. I see your slotting reccomendations, but not your reccomendations of what level to add slots to what powers, if you see what I mean.

Thanks for making the only db/wp guide, it's much appreciated!
  8. a "Find" search yields ZERO claws/willpower guides. So I would like to formally request one.
  9. so in other words it sounds like it's a good choice for me later on, but not starting out? Where exactly is the fun in that? I guess it's to reward those who stick it out. I had a similar experience in Lord of the Rings online, with a differrent scenario. In that game, the Minstrel class is the healer, and back when I was unemployed, I could play for hours on end. However, in that game, you basically are on your own until the endgame content, and the misntrel was not (and still is not imho) effective at soloing.

I'm not adverse to soloing, I just hate flaking on folks out of necessity. There's also the school of thought that for soloing I should be looking at a scrapper...how do you guys feel about that, controller vs. other ATs for soloing?

Thanks for the replies so far, btw.
  10. Not seeing a guide at all. Anyone have one? Or can point me in the right direction?
  11. I just resubscribed to CoH, and rather than roll another scraper that I'll probably drop in the 20s or a defender even sooner, thought I'd try a controller. Provided they fit my playstyle.

I am a casual solo player, have to go afk a lot and don't like to inconvenience other players. Looking for a an at/set that can solo from 1 to 50. Was wondering which sets work well for solo play. I'm currently looking at plant/storm, any one have experience with that combo as a solo player?
  12. is this even really a guide? Certainly doesn't help newbies or lowbies, and I see no benefit from vets reading it.

No offense, but this shouldn't have been posted in the guides section. Looks to me like just another "rate my build" post.
  13. i can't find a power pool guide, how much extra damage does assault lend?
  14. just another addendum, and this is a big one...

Why do you have superspeed AND super jump in the same build? Is this a common practice? because I've never seen it before. Ever.

Why do I get the feeling these builds are geared more for the team player than the soloer who's tired of dealing with 10 year olds? :P
  15. I was very skeptical of that levelling build at first, but I tried it to level 6, and it works just fine so far. My concern was having only one single target attack, one aoe attack and no heal until level 8. While it DOES take longer to level, it's quite safe, NOTHING can really hurt you so long as it's within range of your anchor. My first of many questions will be this. Why Assualt at level 10? Will this help a solo player level faster?

Another question is this; How dependent is rad/rad upon Hasten? I'd rather have flight than superspeed, but I can already tell that this is an endurance-heavy set.

I'd appreciate any advice you can give me.
  16. Not sure I'd follow the advice of anyone who can't spell "with", "that", or "stick"....
  17. Well, I'd like to give this a shot, but I'm wondering how I'll do solo? If anyone plays this A/TA could you PM me with your thoughts on a levelling build and slotting?

    The DM/DA Bible

That explanation makes perfect sense to me :P

My big turn off with COH has ALWAYS been trying to make builds. Part of the problem is that there are SO many choices for powers and slotting. Another part of the problem is that with every issue just about every build listed on the forums is broken. And the biggest problem is the diversity of builds; everyone has their own opinion. And and even BIGGER biggest problem is choosing powers that fit concept. For example, my Dark/Dark/Dark scrapper's outfit is completely black, so the glow effect of Hasten completely ruins that blacker than night look I'm going for. I'm SO glad you have Flight in your build, I just hope I can find a way to keep flight in my build and not have hasten :P

My next question was going to touch on the choice of having Air Superiority, Flight AND Hover in the builds. But I believe I understand it now. Hover is there for knockback defense, no? I think you said acrobatics would probably be a better choice? Conceptually, I could probably live with either. I didn't have a lot of love for hover with my blaster, just wasn't what I thought it would be.

For newbies who have always been lost in this game, THIS is the guide I would recommend them to read. I just hope you plan to update it when Issue 8 comes out; I've tried to rely on I3 guides for a lot of concepts I've wanted to play, and they just don't work anymore.

I'll be glad when I get to the point to where I can make my own logical choices, I figure it takes one toon to 50 to even understand game mechanics. I've had the game for over a year now and there are STILL things about the game I don't understand :P

    The DM/DA Bible

Awesome guide, I have many questions. I'll start with Death Shroud. You say NEVER skip it, yet it's not in a build until a 40 respec? I know you then go on to say "this is great at end game, when smashing/lethal is at it's highest"...are you saying NEVER skip at at endgame?
  20. I sure would like to see a dark/sonic guide.
  21. How's about a level by level breakdown of what powers to take, and when to slot them? How to slot them seems to be covered in your guide.
  22. i think a lot of dark/ defenders have decided to take a break until the fear bug is resolved. it's still possible to level with fear working as is, you'll just take quite a bit more damage :/
  23. Would you say your guide (which is excellent) would also work for Broadsword/Regen? I understand Broadsword is slower, but don't the powers all more or less do the same thing?

I'm very interested to read your input on this, thanks :P
