Looking for Psychic/Mental guide

Looks fun, looks thematic, but can't find any players with experience playing them, let alone any online guides.

1). How well does this combo perform solo?

2). Steep learning curve?

3). Anyone care to post a levelling build example? Flight is my preferred travel power.

You probably can't find guides because Psychic Blast is considered an underperforming set. It's heavily single target based and the damage is massively resisted by certain enemies, so most people who care about performance enough to write a guide are probably going to go Ice / Mental instead since Ice Blast pretty much does everything Psychic Blast does, only better (except kill Clockwork).

I'd say the major part of the learning curve is learning how to avoid robots, since they pretty much laugh at psi damage and that's basically all you have. I'd suggest getting both Telekinetic Blast and Telekinetic Thrust for situations like that since those are half Smashing. Other than that, I can't give a lot of advice since I've not played Psychic Blast out of the very low levels.

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

The Scavenger Hunt: 187076
The Instant Lair Delivery Service: 206636

That is about all you can do, really - get the two attacks with Smashing damage and avoid machines as much as possible (so avoid Arachnos, Council, Nemesis, and Malta(?) missions). I think many Psionic foes also have a decent amount of resistance to Psionic damage.

Of course, that's as a last resort and only if you're *really* wanting to play the combination. Otherwise, I'd say dump Mental Manipulation if you want to keep Psychic Blast - pair it with Energy Manipulation or something and start taking the melee attacks at level 22+ (about the time you start running into machines regularly enough to worry about).

Was only interested in pairing up the "psionic" primary and secondary for concept. Guess that explains why I can't find any in-game.

Indeed. You may wish to try your concept as a Mind/Psi dominator instead. Far from under powered its one of the better combinations on red side.

Still has the same problem against machine foes, though, with only Telekinetic Thrust offereing any non-Psionic damage.

I have a psi/MM blaster that I've taken to 50, for pretty much the same reasons you're citing. It's certainly not for eveyone. And yes, I've howled at the lack of raw firepower when compared to other blasters, but it's still a fun character for me to play. I solo fairly well, the key (I think) is to know your ranges, know your limitations, and know your enemy. Here's the build I'm going from. The purple sets are optional, naturally. At the time I made this, I just built a 'money no object' concept, but I only have one of the purple sets done actually. I hope this helps!

Levitate does too, and it's pure Smashing damage.

With a mind/psi dominator you can also leverage confuse to kill robots as they frequently do smashing damage and are vulnerable to it. Between that and levitate it isn't as bad off as a psionic blast/mm blaster vs robots.

Most other psi resistant enemies are not as bad as they tend to be only 20% resistant vs the 50% res that council robots get, although carnival of shadows adds in psi def to complicate things.

If your concept is primarily hero side and you can handle blapping a psi/energy blaster might be a good choice - its not to far a stretch to consider the energy pom-pom's to be TK fists, or something like that and now that you can color the effects to be the same it will look consistant. The only problem is that this combo is going to be pretty much single target focused as psi blast lost one of its AE's to mental manipulation when the sets where designed (the cone). You will be a single target monster though.
