A lot of it depends on what secondary you have. All around though, I've found manticore quite easy.
-
I'm quite fond of controller/scrapper duos.
I might suggest something like an ice/kin troller and a dark/willpower scrapper. You'll do plenty of damage, with great survivability, and plenty of versatility to handle any situation. -
A couple of mine are:
Fire/MM/elec blaster. This character is a huge AoE powerhouse and loads of fun to play on big teams.
Earth/Kin/Earth Controller. Wads and Wads of hard and soft controls, and kinetics is a hugely fun powerset, with lots of wonderful self and team buffs.
Fire/SR scrapper. It's a late bloomer, but once it does, look out. A great solo character. -

The one thing I fear about Going Rogue is the number of tanker/defender/controllers who are going to be considered mandatory for RSF.
[/ QUOTE ]
At least then it won't be any different than the STF, where most people won't even consider running it without a granite tank, empath, rad, and kin. -

So tell me how many Elite Bosses does your hero fight before level 10?
How many AV's are in the Positron TF?
How often do heroes run in to confusion powers?
How many NPC's that heroes fight use Placate?
At what level do Heroes encounter -res?
Overall the content Villain side is harder.Yet they consistently get less merits.
Risk vs Reward my foot.
[/ QUOTE ]
The mistaken assumption you're making is that risk vs. reward has anything to do with merits. Merit rewards are based almost entirely on average completion times. -
I'm okay with upping the number of merits awarded for higher difficulties, but I'm against lowering them for running on heroic. Leave the rewards as they are now on heroic, and raise them from there.
-
I think this is a great suggestion, and only have 1 quick nitpicking comment to make.
At level 50, with all 3 toggles and all 3 inherents running, super reflexes actually has around 95% defense debuff resistance. -
Honestly, I feel like melee powersets have gotten enough attention lately. I'd really like to see more attention paid to ranged and control sets, as well as APPs for scrappers, and maybe some new assault and manipulation sets. And of course mastermind sets. It looks like we'll be getting the mastermind and ranged sets in going rogue, but that still leaves a lot of territory before melee needs any new sets. Besides, there's still quite a bit of proliferation to do for melee too before they start on new sets altogether.

The issue I have with this is that it could easily get rather unwieldy. Storing all power customization locally might serve to deal with the issue to some degree, but it would make the the process of determining what another player's attack look like take a longer (because you would have to upload your colors to the server so that it can be given to everyone else) so it would probably be more efficient to simply store those variables on the server if color customization is meant to be visible to other players.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not so sure it would though. Assuming they used fairly simple RGB color values with 256 values for each color, that's only 3 bytes to describe the color. Double that to 6 if we can use 2 colors. A character gets 24 powers, so that's only 144 bytes to describe the colors for each and every power (2 colors each) that that character has. That means you could store color data for over 7200 characters in 1MB of data. Although I'm not so sure what kind of identifying data they would need to tie the color to the power it's supposed to go with, so that might add more data. I'm not sure how many characters exist in CoH at the moment, but most of them wouldn't be taking up the memory for the full 24 powers, since only characters level 49 and higher would have all 24, and some (a lot?) characters will certainly be left with the default power colors. I also don't know what kind of storage space the CoH servers have, but I would think it's quite a bit, and the color data would be a fairly small fraction overall.
[ QUOTE ]
The other issue I can think of that might impact the ability to customize powers independently is that, if power customization is a property of the costume generator (which is where I'm putting my money), unless the devs add more costume option slots (there are only a certain number of specific costume options that are open; Weapon Customization actually ate up one), there aren't going to be enough for each power taken to be given a custom color.
[/ QUOTE ]
This one I'm not so sure on the solution to. Maybe we'll deal with the color options somewhere else, or maybe there will be a change to the costume editor if that's where it is.
Either way, I'm hoping the devs will take the same attitude towards this that they did towards the architect, and decide that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right, even if it takes longer. -
This sounds like a pretty good idea actually. I'm all for this.
-
/unsigned. This has nothing whatsoever to do with a game based on comic book superheroes. If you want racing, go play gran turismo.
-
Yeah, technically I'm not really perma-hasten either. Lilke you I'm about 2 seconds off, but it's close enough, and easier to just say I have perma-hasten.
-
I'll add in my 2 cents on this.
Devices can be a decent set, but it's a very different playstyle than a lot of the other blaster secondaries. It also kind of seems to be a love it or hate it type of thing, I don't see too many people in the middle on it. Personally I'm not fond of it.
Fire/Fire will be the same way. Lots of people love the massive damage, others hate the utter lack of mitigation.
If you take energy blast, people WILL complain about the knockback frequently when you're on a team. Some will be quite rude about it. If this will bother you, might want to skip energy.
My recommendation to you would probably be to go ice/ice for the best combo of damage/control and solo/team utility. -
Despite my complete lack of knowledge about computer coding, I'm going to try to sound like I do know something about it here, so if I embarrass myself, please feel free to point and laugh.
It seems to me like when they changed things to add color tinting, they would have had to add a place in the code where it looks for the custom color you created to make the power that color. It also doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to imagine that they could easily have it look in a separate place, with a separate color for each power. I can't imagine that a single entry for the color of a power could be that large (heck, it could probably even be stored locally, so storage size wouldn't be that big of an issue).
I guess what I'm getting at here, is that it doesn't seem like it would be much more difficult to give us the ability to color tint each individual power, rather than the powerset as a whole. -

I think the problem (or cure) is with Went. I think it may be some kind of power suppression to prevent people in Wents from spamming powers (like AOE heals). When you get enough people in there doing all kinds of things it gets really annoying.
Tho the black market is far worse at times with this. Since you have all those PSW doms that fail to turn it off.
I noticed this effect on Boost Range on my Energy/Energy blaster. After WW it would no longer auto click, even after I left the zone. However hasten worked when I made that auto instead. Never went back into WW tho, so dunno if that woulda borked it as well.
[/ QUOTE ]
It doesn't have anything to do with power suppression at the markets. It's a known bug and it has something to do with zoning. i.e. when you zone, the power stops auto-firing, and doesn't start again until you enter combat next. -
You know, I enjoy trying bizarre things for no apparent reason, I may see if I can get my blackberry to do this.
-
The other thing to keep in mind is that some IOs are unique. You can only slot 1 of them per character. The most common ones of these are the miracle +recovery, Numina's Convalescence +regen/+recovery, and the steadfast protection +defense. Ultra-rare IOs (purples) are also unique.
Another good source of information on the invention system is to do the tutorial at the university. -
Just for an idea what you'll be getting yourself into if you try for this, my softcapped perma-hasten fire/SR scrapper cost me a little over 1.5 billion to buy everything for. And that was back before I14 when purples were somewhat cheaper, so it'll (most likely) cost more now.
-
I wasn't trying to say you can't do it with MA or BS, just that I haven't seen people use them at all.
-
Fire/kins are still VERY common in AE farms.
-
1. Huh, I never knew you could do that with the search command. I thought you were limited to the same level ranges that it shows in the team search window now (i.e. the multiples of 5 and 10)
2. I can see how this would be a problem for some people I guess. I guess I'm guilty of the "perfect team" mentality sometimes too. Mostly for task forces. Maybe there would be a way to hide your powersets from the search if you didn't want people to know what they were. That way, you wouldn't show up at all to people searching for specific powersets. -
Werner and BrokenPrey have already mentioned some of the most popular combos, so I'll try to outline my feelings on the others.
Primaries fall into 3 categories in my mind.
Primaries that people solo AVs with fairly commonly: Dark Melee, Fiery Melee, Katana, Claws
Primaries that are less common, but still seem viable: Dual blades
Primaries that I've never heard of anyone using for AV soloing: Martial Arts, Spines, Broadsword
As far as secondaries go, we also have 3 categories, mostly dealing with how difficult they are to get to AV soloing territory.
Shield Defense and SR are the easiest to solo AVs with. Softcap them, make sure you have a little healing ability (aid self generally) and you're good to go.
Regen, Invulnerability, and Willpower fall just below. Most of these require some more money and IOs to be invested to hit the sweet spot where you can solo AVs with ease. Mitigation from your primary can also be a big help (katana and BS especially).
Dark armor and Fiery Aura are definitely the most difficult, with dark probably being slightly easier than fire. Both of these will require VERY significant investments of money and IOs to be able to pull it off at all. -
My softcapped SR scrapper LOVES these rooms. I get buffs from them constantly, and I'm not sure I've EVER gotten a debuff on that character.

Anyone know wtf this guy was talking about?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, and I doubt he knew what he was talking about either.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
The only other codes that come to mind are the game codes used to upgrade/open an account. Since those are one-time use i doubt those are what he meant either. i think you just ended up on one of those teams made up of misinformed fools who've invented nonexistent features/cheats for the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not invented! They Exist! For example, if you type Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious after using a Tier 1 blaster attack but BEFORE it hits and the hit kills the npc on an odd second (based on server time) you get a purple drop! Every time! But you have to type it by hand when you do it, you can't use macros, binds, copy/paste, or the Up/Enter trick. But once you try, fail or no, you have to wait 48 hours before it works for your account again.
[/ QUOTE ]
You know, if you figured out what was the slowest moving blaster tier 1, and had it 3 slotted for range, and used boost range beforehand, and were a really fast and accurate typist, that might be possible.
Damnit, now you've got me wanting to try it out. -
I got invited to a team this morning, and as soon as I got on, one of the guys asked me if I knew any codes. I'd never heard this term before, but I asked if he meant ID numbers for AE missions, since it was the only thing I could think of that was code-like. He said no, then said "if you don't know what codes are, come back when you learn" and kicked me from the team.
