The devs say that Brutes won't get Ice Armor because it would slow down Fury, correct? Well, wouldn't /Dark do the same thing? It has a fear and disorient cloak. Wouldn't that be enough slowing down to match a slow aura from /ice?

If youre wanting to increase your run speed, check out the Gift of the Ancients run speed 7.5%. Those are great for stone tanks. And yes, movement speeds help with run speed.
My wifes GA runs 28mph. It can outrun or keep up with a toon running with sprint. No more SB PLS... lol.

Just ran 3 farms. I was trying to get the last 4 shards for my radial. I got them, plus 2 Apoca's. A dam/rech and a dam/end. Lucky night. Not to mention the Rag i got yesterday. Random is random, but they drop more if you go looking for them.

Quote:Then you have the worst luck ever in this game. I can log on and farm for less than the time it takes to run a TF and get a purple.... That's why i suggested doing it, if you were looking for purples. If not, then just enjoy playing the game.I'm not sure were all the "get a farm toon" and "go Farm stuff at blah blah" are coming from. I thought I made it pretty clear I have and do both *shrug*. But I do apphriate the helpful suggestions. I don't need them, but others reading this thread may find the information useful.
As to the 3 Purples in one TF, I have grouped with this person before and they always seemed on the level. So without reason to doubt him, I have to believe he really did get 3 purples on that TF. RNG is just that I suppose... Random.
Anyways since posting this yesterday someone must have felt sorry for me.
I go into my first tip mission of the day, hit KO blow on the nearest Minion and POW.
Ragnorok: Chance of Knockback
The Purple Dead zone has been broken LOL. Someone must have turn on my "Can recive purples" Code.
Granted it wasn't the best of Purples, compared to what you can get but I was VERY very excited to finaly see one drop never the less.
To make things double exciting, I my glee of joy I hit my AoEs and see the following pop up.
Incarnate Shard Bonded
Sweet!!
So not only did I get my purple recipe, I also got the last shard I needed to upgrade to my T2 Incarnate Enchamcent -

Quote:Of course he's not slotting the same way. He has new powers to slot. lol. Kind of impossible to slot new powers the same as he did, given that they weren't in his build. You are not slotting the same way if you are running out of slots. If you slot the same exact way as when fitness was in your build, there should be no problem. If you don't have it yet, download Mids. It is a very useful tool in helping with your builds.
IMO, the new powers are just icing for min/maxers. By taking something like CJ, Hover and the stealth powers, you can incorporate more 7.5s, -kb recipes and what not. That's pretty much what i've been doing. Or the defender/ team toon can get stuff more like Teleport, Team Tele, Leadership and what-not. Just my opinion, but that's what i've been doing. Or actually taking a travel because since Ninja Run+Srpint i haven't gotten a travel.
Good luck with your builds. -
I doubt someone got 3 on one TF. Unless you know the person, personally and can trust that. They prolly had them on the toon already.
1) I've never gotten a purple on a TF. The odds are just to high on a team of 8.
2) To increase your purple luck, either get a farm toon, or run missions solo set to as high of a team as you can handle.
I don't believe the hype of the suggestion of running more TF's for more purples over the suggestion of farming/solo missions. The ratios just dont back that theory up.
Theres no need in upping the difficulty. 54s dont drop more than 47-50s. I get a couple per weekend by soloing a farm set to 0x8. If you don't like to farm alot, then just get a toon that is good at it, run 1 or 2 quick farms a day then play on the teams that you like. It'll increase your odds. It sucks having to solo alot to get the "goodies", but that's todays game.
Good luck on your search. -
To answer the OP, yes they drop outside of TF's, which has already been made clear. BUT make sure you've done the Oro arc first or they won't drop.
Next, to each their own. If someone likes to do TFs and has the time, PLEASE do it. For others that like to farm or can't team during the week like myself, then farm it up or set your missions to as many mobs as you can handle and play your heart out.
Think about it as a goal for your toons. I was farming last night to try for some shards (which ive been averaging about 2-3 per run set to 0x8) and guess what else fell?? A Ragnarok dam/rech. I was KIND OF disappointed that i only got 2 shards in that run but was kind of happy i got another purple. Not to mention 2 platinums and a hami goo.
Moral of the story? There are multiple benefits from farming shards other than just doing TFs.... So, play, enjoy and stop worrying and blasting people that don't play like you. -
About the only orange drops ive gotten lately are temps. lol.
-
Apocs are crazy atm. I just sold one saturday for 700mil. I listed it at 501mil. That's crazy high. lol.

Quote:I got ya. Personally, i can't see playing with my wife from level 1 to 50 and in that journey, being able to purple our toons out once we hit 50. IF that's what we choose to do just by "playing the game". With todays prices, if one isn't big into marketeering or farming, i just can't see affording the "best IO's". I may be wrong but i don't know and if someone hasn't done that then all it is, is speculation.eryq2, I think you're missing UG's point.
He's not talking about farming in order to get rewards, but the rewards that come if you play the game because you enjoy playing the game. So of course it's not anywhere near as efficient a an activity chosen based on the rewards it provides.
If I decide to spend the afternoon running missions with a friend because we like hanging out together, we'll get a lot less XP than I would on an 8-person team, in all probability, but I'll have fun. So if I point out that you can in fact level on a duo without 8-man teams, pointing out that 8-man teams are a better way to gain levels is missing the point.
One of the questions people have is whether you need to explicitly seek out ways to farm inf, or whether you get enough "just playing". So UG's giving some solid numbers for what you get "just playing", rather than specifically farming something for the sake of farming it. -
Quote:MY definition of farming is repeating ANYTHING for the sake of rewards. Door missions, ITFs, farm maps, WW, whatever. To play is one thing but when it's spammed over and over for rewards is farming, imo. Single target toons are no different. I can farm a BM set to 0x8 with my Katana/Regen.Your reply is self-contradictory: On the one hand, you want to redefine Uber's playstyle as farming; on the other hand you want to say it's less effective than farming, even going so far as to criticize him for not maximizing his farming potential.
The point is that you don't have to farm to make lots of influence. He purposely used an example that was less effective than farming. A single-target-specialized build (Dark Melee) running door missions normally is not a farmer.
By your definition, almost any combat can be described as farming. Or not, when it suits you. I notice that nowhere -- despite your rush to dismiss Uber's data -- do you address the fact that he's making more than enough influence to outfit just about any build you can imagine in a matter of weeks. That was the point of contention, was it not?
Posted previously:
He chose to call people dumb or insist that they don't know any better because he can make money by "farming" door missions. DUH. What i said, was it may not be more efficient. By the time you take in consideration of travel times, his deaths and selling, it MAY NOT be "dumb" to select 1 map and reset it.
I may be "dumb" for farming but it's nowhere near inefficient when in 5 runs over the weekend outside of AE i made 900mil inf. in 2 drops. Not counting kills and deleted tons of common recipes for 100k each and all salvage other than rares.
So, take up for Uber if ya like, but im not the one calling people "dumb" and assuming my way is better. But it's far from inferior compared to door missions.
@ seebs, i don't have time to do all that. I tried to list my drops and stuff once before but because i think for myself and don't agree with the majority, i'm a liar. I don't have time to chart everything and take pics and post all that stuff. Normally i have 2 hours a day to play and i don't wanna waste my time doing all the other stuff. I was listing each salvage and recipe i got per run, but all i got was "pics or it didn't happen". lol. Whatever, i know what i have on my toons and if anyone doubts them then all they have to do is challenge my posts and come to Justice. I'll log whatever toon i say i have and let them read the bonuses or see them in action. I don't have to be a liar because i don't agree with someone else. -
Quote:1st) It's bologna, not baloney. So, just to test out my theory about being able to push harder, I ran five paper missions today, treating them as "defeat all". Except for one spot, I didn't stop playing missions to sell recipes or salvage. I was much more aggressive, simply running into spawns and hoping for the best, rather than more deliberately pulling them around corners for large Soul Drain + Shadow Mauls. I did die once, running into a spawn of +3 Council and pulling them right into a spawn of +2s. I didn't see that I ran right up to a +3 Galaxy Archnon. "Why hello, mister 'my Tough+Resilience does nothing to reduce your attack damage.' Yes, it's a very nice day."
I ran from mission to mission as fast as was reasonable, stopping at the Quartermaster to sell commons if it was on the way. By the middle of the 5th mission, I filled up on salvage.
The game cursed me a bit with lots of Circle of Thorns missions. Death Mages can slow me down a lot, because my build has no direct way to deal with their toHit debuff. Instead, I rely on my +defense powers to get in close and slather them in debuffs. The toHit debuff in their version of Chill of the Night can miss, so if I do this right and am lucky, they won't debuff me (much). I wasn't lucky much today.
Despite this, I clearly did improve. Over the course of the time I stayed in combat I did a better job of sustaining an average closer to 6M (raw) inf/hour with .
Other things of note: I got two more Crushing Impacts, and I sold a crafted Sirocco's Dervish Acc/Dam for 18M(!).
I am going to go back and tweak the parser to include inf from common IOs as though they were an inf reward equal to their store value at the time of the drop message. I can spit out the graphs in a way that shows the updated totals in the same number of bars, just putting the recipe values on top of the defeat values in a different color. I'll update the posts in-line. I may not do that today. Edit: It wasn't very hard, so now done around 3 CST.
As an aside, I maxed out my WW/BM sales count badges today, the "old fashioned" way - just selling salvage and other stuff.
So anyway, circling way back to the original point, I'm well on track to earning multiple billions of inf per month on a richly outfitted but in many ways fairly inefficient character. The charts showing how my defeats-only earnings vary over my logged in time show that I am on track even once we account for my "real" hourly earnings and drop rates, not just heavily filtered, combat-only rates such as those taken by Herostats only while in combat.
So I call baloney on the notion that people have to farm or resort to RMT to create richly outfitted characters in relatively short timeframes. People who do those things may be outright dumb, or they might just not know any better, but they definitely have other options. If they're just too impatient, that's their problem.Just teasing.
So, you're farming door mishes... What is the difference in that and 1 big map? Other than the scenery and having to run back and forth to missions. I don't find that more effective than just running a big BM map a couple times. I logged on last night, ran it twice, got an Apoc and sold it for 700mil. Friday night, i sold a Hold for 200mil. That's nearly 1 bil in 2 days of farming. So, you're gonna hit 1 bil in a month of doors....
To say one don't have to farm, and then you post charts of "farming doors" is kinda, err, um, yeah.
Not to mention the time to run +3s and dieing compared to 0s and living. To each their own, but to call someone dumb for farming a different way than you is, um, dumb. -
Quote:That's hard to believe. I have the front page full of "richly IO'd" 50s. With purples, and very expensive buy it nao builds. I know what i have to do to afford them. That doesn't include running some paper missions. You must be getting some very lucky drops to sell. I farm mobs of x8 for hours per day. I don't use WW, other than just to sell the drops or keep the ones i want. I have about 30bil liquid across 2 accounts and its not from just doing papers. Congrats on your luck err skillz. This is really simple. The idea that your fun is tied to swiftly completing purpled builds builds is whack. It doesn't really matter if you agree. Almost no one behind the wheels of a modern MMO will agree to that for whatever the equivalent is in their game. It doesn't matter what the market is like there, or what the acquisition methods. If the goods in question are "uber", it's pretty universally going to take you time to buy them.
Those people are (a) stupid or (b) terminally impatient. Honestly, given the reputation of RMT providers, I think they're both.
I have never done anything like use RMT. I hardly ever farm, because it bores me. I haven't "played" the market since I11. I punch stuff, use my brain, and I have 11B inf in liquidity, and I have 7 richly IO'd characters, most with 1-3 purple sets and one with a PvP+3% defense.
I'm sorry, but I am proof your claims are wrong. I'm not even trying that hard. I'm just patient. If your definition of fun requires maximal builds with little or no patience then you're out of luck.
What's patient? I have made, on a Dark Melee/Regen Scrapper, right now looking at my Inf display, 450M inf since the evening of Nov. 16th. I've earned that doing nothing but playing Tip and Paper missions <edit> a set of patron arcs</edit> and a couple of TFs. I have not "played" the market at all - no flipping, no niches, nothing. I have not sold any single drop that's netted me more than 10M inf - I have only sold uncommons and "crappy" rares like LotG: Def/Rech. (The pool B, not the +7.5% global.). I've crafted recipes and sold them.
That's net. I've spent about 50 million inf on stuff I needed after a respec and various crafting fees.
Nine days. At this rate I'd earn 20B inf in 44.4 days.
And you know what's the best part? I've gotten other stuff that I can use. I have "earned" more than that inf suggests, because I've hoarded good stuff I plan to use and thus don't have to buy, or could sell later for more money.
Now imagine I was spending my merits. Imagine I was playing something with more AoEs who could kill faster. Imagine I was running more TFs, and earning more merits. It'd all be better, faster, stronger.
Everyone is not me. Everyone will not be able to match my numbers. But frankly, I'm not convinced I'm all that good. I just think I have a pretty good idea what I'm doing. Anyone who has a good idea what they're doing at least has the potential to match or exceed me. People like me tell others in this forum what we do. Where's it going wrong? -
The term "cheap" varies like the shapes of clouds on any given day.
I just IO'd an Ice tank. I paid for all the IOs at the "nao" price. I got it soft capped SnL, Melee and both NRG's. It cost me roughly 400mil. To me, that's pretty cheap whereas someone else would say it was alot.
After her, i also IO'd my first brute. (which im not happy with atm) It cost me about 800mil at "nao" prices. Still, fairly cheap, imo.
Neither set has any purples, though. Way overpriced atm.
@ Ironblade. You say i lie about building a toon from IOs that are dropped? Please, create a build, play it to 50. ONLY slot what falls. Whether it be TO, DO, SO or IOs. Please, please, please do it and post you build in 10 level increments. I'd be VERY interested in seeing what drops you get that AREN'T from WW. GL with that, sir. -
It's nice when it fires off. Not very often though, imo.
But on a side note, this isn't a market question and should be in Powers section.... -
I was in mids just now making my claws/dark brute.
37.7% SnL defense
42.7% Melee defense
53% SnL resist
Are those decent numbers on a brute? None are capped. Is it possible to hit SnL and melee caps on a dark? If so, i'd love to see a build. -
I just rolled a SS/Fire brute to farm with. Man, is FA weak imo. I am popping as many greens as i can and thats at 0x8 with 0 bosses. Im farming the liberate TV mish redside.
I don't have any purples in this build because i tried to build for survivability. Running the missions before the farm, i died 4 times before i could kill a Super Arachnoid boss. No toon have i ever ran in 6 years has ever felt so weak. It may be me, but i have a SD scrapper that can stand in the middle of mobs set to 0x8 while i afk, but not on this brute.
Maybe i just need some help on FA slotting but ouch did i fail. lol. -
We didn't go DM but my cousin and wife and i are about to be running 3 claws/dark brutes. From my understanding is that OG, and CoF stack with 2. So with 3, it should be a great team. Nothing should hit you at all. I'm not a big fan of DM tho so im not sure how the killing would go. We were bouncing between Fire and Claws and since we all have fire toons already we went claws. Id imagine 3 FSC's wouldnt be too bad though.
3 SD wouldnt be fun. The 3rd SC wouldnt have anyone left to kill..... -
Quote:Small effort to afford the goodies? Get real. If someone isn't playing the market hard or farming their tail off, it's not doable. Period. Fourspeed is spot on. If you want to IO a toon, it's not going to happen from drops. So, people are forced to use WW, which is manipulated by everyone looking for a "niche", instead of playing the "game", running missions for drops or TFs or anything that isn't involved with buying stuff off the market.I don't think there are too many just a vocal few and it's not that it's difficult to figure out it's that they are so smitten with the idea that they shouldn't have to make any effort to have the elite gear of our game but that they also deserve to have it because it is there.
Left to choose between making a small effort to get the goodies or whine over the unfairness of the evil flippers in the market they choose the easier path of whining.
And Misaligned is right, the fun term varies. But if my definition of fun is to IO 50's, then why should i resort to drastic measures to achieve the goodies in this game? You're not going to purple or even fully IO a toon with drops recieved from missions. Unless it's AE where you can actually get recipes via tickets because they don't drop by the handful in missions. You have people buying inf with real money to afford the game pieces. If you think it doesn't happen, you're just wrong. Ive been told to hold on by a plyer before so he could go meet someone to get some inf. that he had just bought.
Just thought i'd join in the fun. But, really, if you think its more about "whining" just go run some missions and leave WW alone and purple you a build from drops or buy from the inf gained in missions..... tell me how long it takes. -
Quote:True. It all depends on how much you have/want to spend. My latest story is of my new brute.I have two characters a /fire and a /elec that use smashing haymaker, multistrike, not more than one Touch of death set, and a mishmash of reactive armor and titanium's for smashing and lethal defense. the whole build costs less than just 3 attacks slotted with kinetic combat, and while I'm not softcapped, I'm at 28% on one and 34% on the other. Thats not worthless, it is, infact, an extremely high performance jump over just SOs on a resist set. It also comes with a lot of +HP, and a decent amount of +recovery and those are also both very nice.
Defenders, Blasters, Dominators, corrupters and controllers can also very cheaply build modest recharge and ranged defense using nothing but cheap sets. Easily in the range of 40% global recharge and 25-30% ranged defense. Not anything as powerful as going all out with purples, but it'll cost vastly less and the performance jump over SOs is mind blowing for someone who'se never tried IOs before.
It is a SS/Fire build. I just IO'd it today after hitting 50. I tried running the Liberate farm on villians with just Commons slotted. It pretty much failed epically just at 0x8. Then i got my sets on him. He ran better. No purples, just really good sets like the Kin Com, Oblit, Dervish, the end proc, steadfast proc, etc.
It's no where near softcapped and boy can i tell. I also have an Elec/SD scrapper. He is softcapped and around 155% rech. That build has a few purple sets, 7.5%s, alot of health/end procs, and stuff.
IMO, it's a major difference when more inf is spent on these builds. My brute eats greens and my scrapper sits in mobs while i eat poptarts. I guess it's no surprise that the more inf in a build the better the performance, but to say it's small gains between cheap sets and better sets is non truth, imo.
To Fulmens, none of my builds are frakenslotted. Every toon that i take to 50 gets fully IO'd. They mainly just use commons until i hit 35 then i start IO's. I have a toon stopped at 35 for tickets. I use 2 accounts to be able to supply alot of my own stuff for my toons. -
Quote:LMAO. It takes me forever trying to figure out which ones go with which origin. I just slot 25 commons and keep them until i hit 50 then IO my toons. Except for the -kb and endurance procs.I had to buy a couple a few weeks back- was running Posi II with a PUG and levelled a couple of times. Cook's Electronics was right by the trainer, it was the right origin, so I thought "why not!"
NEVER AGAIN!
I'd almost forgotten the annoyance and frustration of fishing around for what you want then buying the wrong thing anyway and not noticing until you try to slot it. On the plus side, the wasted inf doesn't matter these days...but it still sucked.
I will run EMPTY until I can get to the market next time. -
Ah. Its been years since ive even bought a SO. lol. I didn't remember them lasting past the current level that they were. My bad.
-
Quote:Unless people want the better bonuses like the 3.75% melee from stuff like Oblits, compared to like a .9% fire/cold resist or crap from the "cheap" sets. I'd rather go for the bonuses that actually matter. Those other sets are only good in frankenslotting builds, imo.I'd add another category, or expand on #2. That is the people who don't understand the difference in price between Kinetic combat and Smashing Haymaker, or between Obliteration and Multistrike does not equate to a similar difference in performance. People with money pay huge amounts for a small gain. Too many people start to move from SOs to IOs and think they need the best, not realizing what an enormous difference getting the low-end sets will make.
