For a trio, I'd heavily suggest all three to take Shield Defense, as you will all be able to take advantage of each other's Phalanx Fighting and Grant Cover to softcap each other early on. 
Primaries are where everyone can pick their own one, hehe. Or if you like, everyone could pick the same primary too. o_O Maybe one Dark Melee, one Fire Melee, and one Electric/Energy Melee. Elemental madness!

I'll second the idea of going Shield Defense. DM, FM, ElM are all good choices for primary.
We didn't go DM but my cousin and wife and i are about to be running 3 claws/dark brutes. From my understanding is that OG, and CoF stack with 2. So with 3, it should be a great team. Nothing should hit you at all. I'm not a big fan of DM tho so im not sure how the killing would go. We were bouncing between Fire and Claws and since we all have fire toons already we went claws. Id imagine 3 FSC's wouldnt be too bad though. 
3 SD wouldnt be fun. The 3rd SC wouldnt have anyone left to kill.....
Thanks a bunch, all. Going with three /SDs if the others are game. Really appreciate the suggestions! I put up a new topic asking for general advice on SD, especially IO slotting advice. If any of you have thoughts, I'd love to hear them there.

Hope to get some advice from all of you Brute aficionados. I run a trio with some friends and our current trio is probably going to be hitting Lv 45-50 sometime in the near future. We tend to restart once that happens. The other two routinely rib me for coming up with a trio where I can play a distance alt or a controller (they're right), so I was thinking of doing something all melee oriented.
So, I come to my question: Would three Dark/Dark brutes work very well in terms of powers stacking well/complimenting each other? Are there other primaries or secondaries we should look at (both if all three of us did the same or if we each did a different primary or secondary)? For reasons I won't belabor, earth/stone as primary or secondary is off the table.
