  1. The Scrapper board is part of why Scrappers are my favorite Archetype =D

Now the most realistic attack chain are we talking with or without parry?
Ah, sorry, should've mentioned that. I meant to put in "with Parry," but I didn't like my wording so I deleted it and posted without retyping that. My bad xD

My secondary is Willpower, so Parry is pretty valuable to me when fighting things like AVs and such =]
  3. You'll need Practiced Brawler, period. If you want to be a semi-Tank, go for the AoE taunt from the Presence pool (though I'd still advise against it!).

Shurikin is okay. Ranged is decent. You can pull with it, finish off runners, etc. It's also a decent mule for IO sets.
  4. So I was wondering what the highest (single target) DPS for Broadsword is (assuming high amounts of global recharge). And then, what's the most realistic attack chain? By that, I mean a moderate amount of global recharge (let's say 20-30% with Hasten cycling). I'm pretty terrible at calculating DPS and such, so any answers are greatly appreciated =]
  5. My vote is for FF/Energy. FF gives you some really fun toys to solo with, and teams will love the crap out of you when you're softcapping they're squishies (Two bubbles, Manuevers and the Dispersion Bubble gets 'em pretty damn close, I believe). Energy Blast is nice to solo with considering all the KB.

But Sonic/Sonic has its pros. You'll do a ton of damage thanks tot he -res, and you can help your team to boot.

That's kinda the whole point of this thread. People were always clueless, but the AE makes it A LOT worse.

Though I have been on some really awful AE PUGs where I can see they think they need a 'healer' just because they were so awful at the game.
Totally agree with you there. As long as its not a STF, LRSF or Hamidon anything's doable. I was having a rather heated argument with an AE team as to why Stone tankers aren't as great as one might think. One of them said, "when you're using Granite, you don't have to worry about what you're fighting." I laughed, clearly they had never heard of PSIONICS before. Another said "they can handle anything, whereas Willpower and Invuln need billions of influence to handle anything." Again, I laughed. They had been doing a few too many S/L boss farms to realize that AVs like Mother Mayhem existed (granted, Invuln probably wouldn't do so hot either =P). AE babies flock to sets that are easy to be good (read: Stone tankers).

Moral of the story is this: Now that AE is forced into having all-boss missions as the only kind of farm, people think that easy-to-be-good sets (Stone, Fire/Kin, etc) are the only worthwhile sets because a noob WP tank can't handle what a noob Granite Tank can. The AE is forcing even great players to assume that everyone is a noob, which is death to non-Granited tankers. The same is true with Empathy and Kinetics. Empathy 'cause it gives the "we need healzor NAO!!" mentality and Kinetics because it fixes the people who don't even know what Stamina is at level 45 (I've seen WAY too many high level Blasters, Tanks and Scrappers that didn't take Stamina when they REALLY should have). Not to mention its a good buffbot for Granite -_-

Then again, that could just be me and my hopes of intelligence which most AE farms tend to miss.

It's one of the reason people hate Storm, there's so many bad ones, I'll stay away from the AE farms. I'll take the slower, funner, and generally more intelligent version of leveling.

By the by, I loves me some Storms.
I think most competent people still do AE farms because it wasn't so bad AT FIRST. It got bad when AE started creating its AE babies in force (read: people that really should have slow-leveled to get the hang of their powers). Now you've got people that think an Empath is the only worthwhile Defender and Stone is the only worthwhile Tank. Sometimes you get a Rad that broadcasts themselves as a "healer" (lolwtf?).

By the way, I love me the Stormies too =D

    BS/SD - AoE?

Add in Energy Torrent from the epic and you've got some pretty nice AoE potential
  10. Anything Scrapper will solo at a much greater speed then most anything else (in general, of course).

In particular, Broad Sword, Katana, Martial Arts and Dark Melee are all single target beasts. That's excellent for soloing since you won't be fighting a ton of enemies at once (usually). I personally like Broad Sword, it's got great weapon options compared to Katana (though Katana gets prettier animations).

As for a secondary, anything is great as well. However, since you're new to Scrappers you should probably shy away from "squishy" sets like Fiery Aura, Regeneration and Dark Armor. Those sets can be excellent, but require a bit more investment of skill and influence. Willpower is great early on, and becomes awesome with Quick Recovery at level 20. Invulnerability is good too, but you'll need to watch your endurance and you'll have to avoid Psi enemies like the plague. Super Reflexes gets godly, but is pretty suckish pre-SOs. Then it gets so-so, and once you get your AoE defense it gets good.

All of that aside, you're pretty good with any/any. Go on concept, and you'll have more fun.
  11. Regen, he can grow his arms back and stuff. It's perfect.
As for a primary, MA works 'cause of the whole ka-rat-eh thing.
    Haha, great idea!
  12. Thanks for the replies all, especially the builds and suggestions on the combos.
    I think I've got what I need =D
  13. So I finally rolled a new Scrapper that I like, Dual Blades/Super Reflexes. It fits his concept perfectly and I love the feel of it. However, I realized about twenty seconds after hitting "Enter Paragon City" that it would be an INCREDIBLY tight build. SR pretty much requires you take 7 of the 9 powers (with Quickness and Elude looking VERY attractive) and there's a large incentive in DB to take 8 of the 9 powers (combos). Throw in a travel power and Stamina, and there's not much left. Here is my planned build (didn't bother putting enhs in, but I've followed general toggle and attack slotting in-game):

    Set Bonus Totals:
I took Combat Jumping to help with the Softcap, and Super jump 'cause there was nothing else (though I could swap it out for Manuevers or Hover if need be). So my question is what will I need to rearrange/remove from this build in order to reach the defense Softcap. Some advice on what IOs to take would be great as well, though I really can't afford anything purple. Finally, I'd -prefer- not to take Weave, but if someone can give me an effective DB/SR build (or ideas) WITH Weave, I'll consider it.

    Not exactly...
I simply wanted opinions on whether or not the weaknesses of Granite are worth its super-buff versus WP's lack of weaknesses but less overall defense.

Perhaps that could've been explained better, sorry.
  16. Don't take Slash or Taunt. Hack is so much better it's not EVEN funny. And Confront (I think it's called) just isn't worth it. Your Against All Odds will be more effective "taunting" enemies. Hack, Headspliiter, Disembowel and Parry will make for a lovely attack chain (maybe in a different order, repeating hack) with a low amount of Global Recharge.
  17. I love Stalkers. A Stalker was my first villain to hit 50 and probably my last. They are different enough from Scrappers that they take on a new playstyle, yet they use most of the same sets. So it's fun to play Scrapper sets in a new light.
  18. So I've read some very mixed views on comparing the two defensive sets. Some have said Stone is clearly better as you can softcap defense and cap S/L resistance as well as getting your other resistances mighty close. Your only weakness is Psionics. Others have said that Granite is far too crippling to be considered better than WP. Willpower, after all, gives more endurance recovery, an auto-boost to max HP and very well-rounded defenses (including the achilles' heel of Stone, Psionics).

So what I'm asking is which set is better, and why? I don't expect to get a definite answer, as opinions will vary, but I want to know what people think.

To clarify, I'm talking end-game, all-round effectiveness. So don't go saying "WP is better off in the beginning" or something similar. I want Granite's obvious weaknesses accounted for. Also, I'm not seeking "which is better in extreme situations" answers. Because when it comes down to tanking a horde of monsters in Tempest Quay, Granite clearly gets the nod.

    /Storm help plz

You MUST get Freezing Rain, it's a powerful debuff and does good damage. Plus it makes the mobs popcorn a bit and slows 'em down. GET IT.

You should be getting Snow Storm as well, but it really isn't necessary in -every- fight. Use it when things are going wrong. Enemies will stay together more (slowed) and won't attack as often (-62.5% recharge are the correct numbers I believe).

Get Thunder Clap if you're using another disorient power. You can use them together to lock down bosses. I have a Fire/Storm, and I use Flashfire + Thunder Clap to stun EVERYTHING (Mag 5 total).

Hurricane is great. I've seen some awesome herding with it. Enemies won't be able to hit you if they're being affected and you can move 'em around as you please.

Lightning Storm is awesome as well. To negate its rather annoying KB (unless the situation calls for KB), spam your AoE immob, it ought to have a few seconds of KB protection in it.
  20. I desperately needed help on my Controller, so I got him to 50. Now, I'm ready to respec =D
  21. electric_emu

    tough + sr

I personally don't like turning some toggles on and other off. It just bugs me. So if it doesn't give you end issues, leave it on. When you *do* get hit, it probably won't hurt so much as almost all attacks have a smashing or lethal component to them.

    Sally

    [ QUOTE ]
    I'm so ashamed.

After I helped a friend transfer a purple recipe between two toons, I used the base Teleporter to Croatoa to get to the Midnight Club as fast as possible (been dayjobbing the character there), and on the way I noticed Sally.

I swam up to her and with impulses beyond my conscious control, I gave her a good whack in the back.

I cannot look myself in the mirror anymore. I'm such a monster.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Haha.
I thought she was gonna put up a fight the first time I saw her, so I toggled up and opened with Build Up then Head Splitter xD
  23. electric_emu

    Screw Rad blast

Eh, not really. The damage isn't good enough for me, and it lacks a "blast" (read: boom) factor. Granted, that's something Rad Blast barely has. I may consider -wanting- it once I see what you can do with Dark Blast in terms of power customization.
  24. electric_emu

    Hast on arch

Hasten will boost your DPS significantly, seeing as your attacks are up more often. It also helps RoA come up more, which is a great power. However, you shouldn't be taking Hasten if you're already having Endurance issues. Since you're attacking more often, you'll be burning more End. Plus hasten has a minor end crash in it. Plus... I hate the animation.

But, it's completely unnecessary. You'll be okay without it. It's just helpful. You could go for global recharge boosts instead, but without some serious inf investment, you won't get Hasten's level of recharge enhancement.
  25. So I downloaded CoH and installed it from there (no discs involved). And when I search City of Heroes on my computer, I only get the updater's shortcut and a link to the main site. And when I look up the CoH folder (via programs), I only get Uninstall, account registration and the two I just mentioned.

So, does anyone have any idea where I could find it? I'm using Vista 64 bit
