Second while on aft watch I saw a wave hit us broadside and the water that passed over us tore the heavy equipment forklift right off the flight deck. It was a huge vehicle that belonged to the Seabee unit that was on deployment with our ship.
Sounds like stories both my dad (ex merchant marine) and an ex-navy buddy of mine told while they were in the North Atlantic. His worst experience though was on a freighter breaking up in the Great Lakes.

Anyways, I've never experienced a tornado up close, but out of the big three (hurricane, tornado, earthquake) I think a tornado ranks at the top. Between typhoons in Okinawa and hurricanes in Virginia, they dont illicit much emotion. I just listen to or watch the news, if they say go, I go. I'm not to terribly attatched to my stuff or where I keep it. IMO thats what insurance is for.
  4. Gotta say I really dont have enough hate in me for any particular powerset or AT. Might be the tinker gnome in me, but I'll latch onto a concept and hammer on it till I make it work.
  5. I'd actually like some sort of skill system so I could hack computers or pick locks or notice that secret door or any number of cool things a skill system could do.

Yep, this is the second or third time we've had an an east coast quake, but hey if anything we are a resilient bunch and will not succumb to adversity!

I dunno, I've ran into alot of people outside Va that know about Va Beach. Generally when your talking about Va you either cite Va Beach or Nawfuch (Norfolk) and say you live north, south or west of there.

Then again, I see his point. My neice and nephews moved from someplace west of the Missisippi and we were driving right smack dab in the middle of Yorktown Va and they had absolutely no idea of the historical value of the place and probably still have no idea what Jamestown is. I bet if I ask, they will probably tell me that America started at Plymouth Rock.

I actually like Alien 3, now Alien 4 - that'll make you hate life enough to push the earth right into the sun.

It's just like the West Coast for East Coasters.

    Seattle

    San Diego

Let's face it, Americans are woefully lacking in basic geography. And science. And math. And history.
Oh I see how it is, if you dont have a population of at least 500k you dont rate on the east coast. Va Beach and Atlanta both have populations greater than Miami (according to census data on wiki less than 300k), now a hick town like Charleston SC I can agree with

thanks Henri, the constant costume updates have really allowed me to evolve my robot from this to the above guy. I just wish they would let us use the Clockwork pants with the monsterous legs.

Luckily south eastern Va is built right on top of a swamp. You Va inlanders might have had a problem, but down here it just made all that jello underneath Hampton Roads jiggle just a little bit.
  13. These could easily be used in construction.

    Boron
    Beryllium
    Vanadium
    Manganese
    Niobium
    Molybdenum
    Cadmium
    Neodymium
    Tungsten
    Rhenium
    Iridium

As some real world examples; several car manufcturers are going to use boron in car construction to help lighten future vehicles in the form of so-called "super steels". Beryllium has been used extensively in the aerospace and medical industry, vanadium, manganese, and molybdenum are common alloying agents in steel, niobium and neodymium are components used for magnets and electric motors. Cadmium is commonly used as a protective coating for steel. Tungsten and rhenium go together like peas and carrots especially when they are used in incandescent light bulbs. Iridium is also used heavily in the auto industry at least for fine wire spark plugs.

Looks like they've updated it since my last visit, but the Los Alamos National Laboratory has a neat-o interactive periodic table of elements.

Its my go to place when I'm cooking up some yummy technobabble.

If your asking OD&D, I can provide straight from Dieties & Demigods.

Off-hand I think Excalibur in OD&D was a Sword of Sharpness (epic win) and a Holy Avenger. Excalibur's scabard prevented Arthur form being harmed by bladed weapons.

In my head, Heroes don't run. So I played my Blaster like that...
I learned from his guide and others on here about LoS and tactical retreat etc etc.
Glad I never read the manual

Honestly, I can never say I've ever really been influenced by any one person. I've tried a few suggestions here and there but in the 7 years I've played the game its been me bumbling through with many memorable moments over the years.

If I had to pick one that really stuck with me though, its was before they nerfed nukes and imposed a kill cap. In one particular instance I teamed with Beef Cake who expertly herded the map and I jumped in with my nrg/nrg blaster all raged out and nuked a whole gaggle of jaegers. What looked like a small group of jaegers actually turned out to be a hella big ol' gaggle of jaegers since he had herded so many that the game at the time couldn't render so many in such a small space. All those dead golden toilets laying around will stick with me forever

    Damn skippy!

Its to bad a few D&D swords didn't make the list like the Black Razor ( modeled after Stormbringer) and Catti-brie's sword Khazid'hea or even the Sword of Kas (which severed Vecna's hand), the latter two being forged awesome sauce in the form of swords of sharpness or Fragarach, ManannĂ¡n mac Lir's sword as used in Greyhawk which cost the wielder initiative but always allowed them to unerrringly strike last in any round or even Drizzt's scimitars Icing Death and Twinkle.

Not to spoil your fun, but your roof has a live and dead load specification that will let you know how much weight can be placed on the roof (very important when it rains or snows and the roof is subject to increased loads). The membrane as well with instructions on what can a cannot be done and as far as modifying the membrane with paint and such, this can have an effect on the performance of your HVAC system as well possibly increasing utility costs.

Your idea is a noble one, but it really needs the attention of an expert (perhaps even an engineer or architect) so that the impact is at a minimum.

To put this into perspective, my employer had an expert come in and examine the cinder block walls at the building I work at, the guy pointed out a dozen or so problems that were ultimately the fault of our management staff just implementing various programs that modified the structure in simple ways yet has compromised (as in increased the chance of collapse) the structural integrity of walls in general.
