  1. I've been /bugging each and every mission that has a must-kill boss in it that doesn't let me know there's a boss in the description (long or short). Basically, any mission where I need to clear a level of all villains and I encounter a boss.

I've been doing this for about three days. I'm at about a 60% bug rate. I'm even getting must-kill named bosses that aren't mentioned. I think if we all do this, the devs will get the message.

If not, perhaps we need to send a /bug report every time we encounter a must-kill boss, even if that means sending multiple /bug reports every mission.

It is nice for players to want to compare playing this game to actual comic books, but remember first off NO comic book hero who is not using gadgets or specially made armor ever gets to choose the powers they have let alone gets to have over almost 30 seperate powers ( except Superman ) so please stop trying to use comic book analogies for or against the changes made to the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not like our CoH powers really constitute separate superhuman powers. Look at Super Reflexes -- 9 different powers that are really just one "power" that has 9 different aspects. Most CoH powersets can be viewed this way. The hero has a power -- illusions, speed, invulnerability, fast healing -- with varying degrees of expertise over them.

Edit: whoops, never mind the gadget thing...

That is the most anti superhero thing I've heard yet. In the comics, how lame would it be if superheros had to run and get help everytime they came up against a boss? I'm not even talking about archvillians like Doctor Octapus, Shocker, Kraven the Hunter, etc. I'm talking about run of the mill thug bosses. I'm starting to wonder if this game is even based on comic type superheros in any way besides graphics.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, not all supervillains in the comics equate to AVs in CoH. Many, like Shocker, Kraven, Rhino, and The Vulture, are more like bosses or elite bosses. An Archvillain is a villain who has the charisma or power to command other named villains. Dock Ock (in the comics) often used bosses like The Lizard or Scorpion in his plans. The movie Doc Ock is more like an elite boss.

Granted, this only strengthens your argument.

I didn't really pay attention until yesterday, but I know every missions I did yesterday could not be completed without defeating the boss.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I certainly believe you, but, unless you did a pretty small number of missions, that's pretty unusual. Stealth BTW is a good power to ramp up the percentage of missions one can do without fighting bosses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not unusual at all. I get must-be-killed bosses all the time that aren't mentioned in the mission text. As a scrapper, this isn't a big deal (even post lv25), but it does happen.

Considering how many other threads Statesman has been replying on, I think we can conclude the answer to the claim that bosses are now too hard is "It's the VISION tm, suck on it!"

Agreed... As soon as the complaints come in about this, he's a true superhero... Able to dodge speeding complaints, can leap big issues in a single bound...

Well, to be fair, he is getting hammered a lot. I expect an announcement about it on Monday.

So, where in this text does it mention there will be multiple bosses on this solo mission?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I vaugely remember that mission. Do you have to fight those Bosses?

    SPOILERS

    Here's a recent mission description:

Tina Macintyre: Guess what, Citrakya! Anti-Matter and Neuron come from the same world! It seems like they knew each other, so I had the technicians take another look at the data from Neuron's dimension. Despite Neuron's dimensional scrambler, we were able to match several distinguishing features with the data from Anti-Matter's dimension. Both villains are from Upsilon-Beta 9-6! Call me crazy, but I think Paragon City got caught in the middle of a power struggle between supervillains.

We're sending you to a remote corner of Upsilon Beta 9-6 to plant a network of dimensional scanner. That way we'll know if anyone on that world opens a portal to this one, even if Anti-Matter gets his stealth portal technology working.

The short mission description (the one that appears in your nav window) says "Defeat all enemies in area."

There's an AV on this map. I've defeated everyone but him. The missions doesn't end. Where in either of these descriptions does it warn me that I'll need to bring a team along to defeat the AV?

And Batman is a Scrapper and Supeman is a Tanker, both better suited to dealing with a Boss. Funny how that works out huh?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok. Doc Strange is a Controller, yet he can take on Dormamuu.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Actually, if a boss will appear in a mission, the mission briefing mentions it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unless it doesn't. I've run into Bosses in Shadow Shard missions with no mention of the Boss in the mission description. Should I bug these?

    Villain Emotes

    Probably been mentioned, but...

Some kind of clearing-throat, like he's about to orate. Tapping the chest, etc.

    An actual oration, for monologuing.

Beratement, for the nincompoops you're always surrounding yourself with.

    Loser "L" on the forehead.

    Bronx cheer.

    Slapping the butt.

Licking a finger, then SSSSS against the butt.

Oprah-Winfrey-angry-audience-member head bob (hard to describe).

    Talk to the hand.

Menacing fist (like what the kidnappers do to the rescue victims in the hostage missions).

High-five (two villains can synch that up).
  10. [ QUOTE ]
How many people reading this would object to being able to be on even footing for damage and accuracy against another hero and let the powers themselves decide the outcome?

    [/ QUOTE ]

For PvP? I have no opinion. I'm willing to try it. I suspect I won't like it, but we'll see.

For the game as it stands? No way. I like that KR and Perez aren't threats any more. I get nostalgic for Steel Canyon. Progressing through levels, and having certain zones filled with specific level ranges, gives the game a sense of scope and story. Someday, I'll be powerful enough to walk through Peregine Island and the Rikti Crash Zone, but not yet. I have much to do before I can face that challenge.

    Plus, I'm an elitist jerk.

I just said this wasn't because of the German market. If it was, the 5th would be gone completely and the replacement wouldn't just be another pseudo-Nazi organization. Oh, and there wouldn't have been evidence of the Council's existence since beta.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would be very very interested in seeing this evidence that you are referring to. Got a source? Screenshot? Story Arc stuff?

    [/ QUOTE ]

People have mentioned on these forums seeing The Council on the data booth things in beta. I wasn't a beta tester, so I can't say I saw them firsthand.

I have actually seen 5th in Peregrine Island in Update 3 with my own eyes. I didn't think to take a screenshot. Next time I see them, I will.

What does Statesman mean by "Council"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Replacement villain group for 5th column.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So the game can be sold in Germany.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hasn't this been disproven about six times by now?

The Council are no less Nazi-like than the 5th. How does replacing once neo-Nazi group with another make the game sell better in Germany?

Addendum: The 5th aren't gone, either. You can still see them in PI (and reportedly IP).

    [/ QUOTE ]

And how does replacing Vanilla with Chocolate make the story move forward when there is nothing in the missions storywise explaining what happened and or why? Leastwise none that I have heard about or seen in the missions I have done on Test. Sorry but this is the same exact Ice Cream cone, not even a different flavor just added food coloring. So why the Food Coloring?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hm, nope, don't think I said replacing the 5th with Council moved the story forward. Didn't say anything about one flavor being better than the other.

I just said this wasn't because of the German market. If it was, the 5th would be gone completely and the replacement wouldn't just be another pseudo-Nazi organization. Oh, and there wouldn't have been evidence of the Council's existence since beta.

As someone else said, Cryptic knew full well they were going to sell the game in Germany from day one. Why put in an "illegal" group if you're just going to turn around and take them out? Also, German law only pertains to specific Nazi imagery, such as swastikas and so forth. The 5th have none of these.

  14. Thanks!

Well, the glowie was embedded in the wall, so there was no way to get it.
  15. You guys rock. I could get into the specifics of the problem, but it doesn't matter. After being helped out (within 5 minutes) the GM even stuck around to ask me a few questions about the map.

    Thanks!

To be fair, the book is ALWAYS better than the movie. Seriously, has there ever been a movie based on a book that turned out BETTER than the book? I can't think of one and I'm a movie and book junkie.

IMO, Blade Runner knocks the socks off "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep". I read the book first and was deeply disappointed.

I've seen plenty of films that were neck and neck with the book... (The Dead Zone springs instantly to mind)

Well, issue two was called "A Shadow of the Past", which just so happened to be the title of the second chapter of "The Fellowship of the Ring". Oh, and "Eastgate" is referenced as being part of Moria in the world of LoTR.

So, going by the theory that the chapter titles refer to great works of literature, I did a little research into the new title: Issue 3 A Council of War.

The only thing I could come up with is Treasure Island. Chapter 12 (1 plus 2 equals 3?) of Treasure Island is called Council of War.

So, is this title a hint at the possibility of a water zone? Perhaps pirate villains? Or some sort of treasure?

Just some speculation I'll put out there. Enjoy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Very astute.

Of course, you know this just means that people will be scrambling to Google when Issue #4: The Phantom Menace is annouced...
