    Death to Disco!

Finally added a bio for the God of Rock.

Born from the first Rock guitar riff The God of Rock protects all that is Rock and Roll. Fighting in the streets with his children at his feet he defends Rock with a whole lotta love. Forget the hearse, 'cause this cat will never die.

You are taking knowledge you have as a player and attributing it to your character's perspective. You are implying your character knows that there is a villain contact in GV called the Television that is unlocked by getting a certain badge.

As for questioning your sanity....is a Television as a contact anymore insane then many of the things characters in the game run into? Have you ever rescued Baby New Year for example?

One more point. This is a humor based arc.

    Quote:
What was the deal Nemesis made that involved Blappy? It mustn't have been that important, since Nemesis never bothers to reclaim Blappy after her abduction. Even then, a large criminal organisation like Nemesis being insulted like that by a smaller group like the IL? I'd have thought that the Nemesis group would have called for war on principles alone, especially for a job that Nemesis himself has a personal interest in.
Read the clue. Does it say they made the deal or what it was? Have you ever negotiated anything where you did not reach an agreement or perhaps where a better offer came along before you made up your mind? You made an assumption that was wrong.

    Quote:
That's not what I mean. The 30 minutes time limit was part of what I meant when I talked about the urgency being pointless. The problem was that your hero successfully completing it in time is never brought up in the debriefing, and turns out to change nothing in the end anyway. Presumably you would get the exact same results if you just stood still and failed the mission.
This is always a hard line to draw because many people HATE being spoon feed info that is apparent. You over do it and the "idiot ball" comments start. I added a line at the end to help those that need it and hopefully does not cross into that territory.

    Quote:
Does TV want to protect and nurture a personality it knows childrens will blindly trust, in a similiar vain to its mission regarding Amanda Vines....
It sounds like you answered your own question.

  3. I can't say I am happy since this is the worst review/rating I have ever received for any of my arcs and surprisingly it's of the arc Venture even gave 4 stars. Responding to some of you comments:

    Quote:
.... It is at this point that the news anchor addresses you directly and- wait, what? So yeah, apparently Television has managed to leak its way out of the Rogue Isles airwaves and into Paragon’s.
Really? You wonder how something can be broadcast beyond a single area?

    Quote:
It’s not really clear how Television came to Paragon, or why it cares if Blappy went missing....
The TV, the contact that had you go after the Radio because it took away viewers and had you go burn books so kids would not have anything to read and be forced to watch more TV. You wonder why the TV is concerned that the most beloved, top rated kid's show host is missing?

    Quote:
...On the advice of a news anchor… that spoke to you… directly… from the TV… But hey, I guess your hero wouldn’t’ bat an eyelash if he happens to be Malkavian.
The TV is an actual contact in the game. Are you criticizing the arc because it uses a plot device used several times in CoX (TV, Radio, Slot Machine)

    Quote:
As an origin arc it works out pretty well, as it doesn’t fall into the trap of making your hero second to the author’s characters, and the author’s villains are distinct and varied enough so it feel like you are fighting an actual super villain team something that the vanilla game so desperately needs instead of all the grunt bashing we end up doing
This sounds really positive and like you enjoyed the custom group. BTW the reason The Injustice Legion seems like a villain super team is that it is an actual villain SG. Oh and btw, many of those characters are not mine. Additionally, all the minions and Lt.s are henchmen I created for the arc.

    Quote:
Though I do think the author should have made completely new bios for her villains instead of just copy-pasting her normal ones, as I found it jarring having examined a villain only to get their complete life story.
I am not sure why that is an issue. All the bios are humorous and tell the character's origin. This is after all a humor driven arc.

    Quote:
There were a few inconsistencies in the writing, such as one point in the arc where Television informs your hero that their next task is in a warehouse located in the Rogue Isles, and then in the debriefing it reports that you raided a warehouse in Paragon,
Good catch....133 plays and no one has noticed that.

    Quote:
or at another point where your hero recalls Bright Angel mentioning something that she never did.
It says something like "You think you overheard Bright Angel mention she was heading....." So clearly it is intended to describe something that took place "off screen"

    Quote:
Things that were once relevant to the arc are later never mentioned again. Nemesis who were the driving force at the beginning roll over halfway through and just fade away...
Just fade away??? The entire second mission was the fight between the IJL and the Nemesis that the IJL won. Did you miss the battles and the dialog during them and the monologue Junkyard Dog gave?

    Quote:
... the initial urgency of saving Blappy in time for her next show proves to be completely pointless and is not even mentioned in the debriefing even if you succeeded
Yeah maybe I should have made the last mission timed....wait....I did! Send off text "Only 30 minutes till show time!" (or something to that effect).

    Quote:
and even Television doesn’t seem all that bothered about Blappy by the end.
As long as it is getting ratings....why would the TV care if Blappy was good, bad or in between?

    Quote:
Ultimately, this arc is an origin story and doesn’t try too hard to be anything but, which makes it somewhat tricky to rate. It serves its purpose as to explain the origin of the author’s characters, but unless you were really, really into the author’s characters (you creepy stalker you) there’s no strong hook to play this arc.
Again, many of these are not my characters, several new characters were made for the arc and more over, the main character, Bright Angel, is not my character either. To spell it out, this arc is ultimately her origin story.

Thanks for the one legitimate mistake you found, I will correct that. As for the rest I am not sure if you did not get the arc or got it and just did not like it. Also, I am curious what you rated this arc in game since I got no tickets.

  6. I just finished this arc and wanted to comment publicly on just how wonderful an arc you have written. A solid 5 star effort and an perfect example for anyone tying to write an arc that would seamlessly fit into canon. I would fully endorse this arc for consideration of Dev's Choice and have no doubt were it considered it would it would be granted. If you have not played this arc, do yourself a favor, grab a team and go play it now!

  7. Thanks very much for reviewing Trademark Infringement (2220)! A 4 star and two 4.5-5 stars, awesome. I just wanted to address the lack of Bosses two of you mentioned. Besides the main Boss, their are two other Wannabe bosses. Check your settings they should be set to "Fight Bosses even when Solo" for them to spawn. Again, thanks all, I really enjoyed the show.

    Title: Old Dog, New Trick
    Arc ID: 81318
    Creator’s Global Name: Wrong Bird
    Mission Count: 3
    Notes – Origin Story, Heroic
Story – Loved the concept and execution of the story. A heroic K-9 in trouble and you are the only one that can save him? You had me at "Woof". 5 stars.

Fun Level – It moved along at a good pace and kept me engaged through out. 5 stars.

Playability – No real problems here though I prefer consistent levels throughout an arc. 4.5 Stars.

Polish – Could have used a few more clues to flesh the story out more, but overall spiffy. This arc had the best souvenir I have gotten from any MA arc. It actually evoked emotion. 4.5 stars

Overall Rating - 4.75 stars highly recommend.

Let’s up it to 11! – The best thing you can do imo is even out the level range.

You are a tough cookie PW! I have played at least a few 100 arcs by now. Early on I would spend an hour a evening playing (often more like attempting to play) unrated/unplayed arcs. Aside from my own arcs and the ones I have replayed for reviews or just helping people fine tune arcs I can't really think of any I have played three times or more.

Hanging out in Pocket D can become hazardous, you never know when a desperate guy (one of my favorite NPC's over there) spots you and request your help. This was supposed to be your evening of.

Warning, this arc comes with the WORST custom costumes possible. You have been warned, mental health can be in jeopardy here.

Lowdown – A love stuck and delusional fellow needs your help rescuing his "One True Love" who seems to be not all that into him. He has stumbled into something that goes beyond his simple aspirations and it is going to take a hero to sort this all out.

Funny Level – Mildly Amusing, I found the main character (contact) who drives the story more sad and pathetic than funny. Maybe it is because I am a woman, but I did not see much humor in it.

Fun Level - A cheap Carnie ride.

Let’s up it to 11! – I liked the customs in the last mission and had fun fighting them, but I feel they may be tough for a lot of ATs. The number of ambushes in the first two missions seem excessive. Double check your spelling and your grammar. If this was my arc I would change One True Love for "One True Love?" and play it more for humor by letting everyone but the main character in on the joke. Hopefully by doing this the arc would be more about saving a love struck fool and you could have an ending that is more heroic feeling.

Overall Rating – The idea is a decent one: A love stuck fool in over his head. It can be played for humor for sure, but not so much here. That does not mean it is bad arc, just not one I found all that funny. That said, it is worth a play.

    2. Allow arc players to choose between normal rewards ( i.e. drops ) vs tickets.

    3. Some focus by the Devs on the Dev's choice designation. Number of dev responses to ANY thread in the section - zero. Dev apathy is killing things from the arc designer side.

I agree on all of your points and especially wish the Dev's would open up a dialog with the players about MA. Continued silence makes it seem like they don't care and plan to leave the current MA issues unaddressed.

I disagree. For me the real fun is having people play and enjoy the arcs I have made. I would compare it to coming up with a great cake recipe, making the cake and then no one will try it. Disappointing.

The MA doesn't need to be revived. It is good as it is with i16.
I don't want to see a resurgence of farmers in the AE.
If it is "good as it is" why has there been such a sharp drop in players using the MA? It is not just "farmers" who have stopped playing MA.

    Quote:
There are far too many copyright infringement arcs. Paragon Studios needs to have someone in place to hunt down and remove those arcs before the game is sued again.
I have played many 100's of arcs and I can only think of a few that came close to actual copyright infringement and none of those had many plays. It really is a non-issue.

Just brainstorming here...I was thinking this morning that if the Dev's would implement "wasting" feature with MA, something like they have with the market it would clear out the search list massively. Something like: If a published mission is not played or edited in 30 days it is marked as inactive and will no longer show up on standard searches. The missions would still be there and if played or edited they would move back to the active list. You could also have a box to check in the search feature "Search Inactive Missions".

I can't speak for everyone here, but I bet most MA authors that read these forums have done everything you mentioned and more to promote their arcs. I know I have. That said, most people don't read the forums and trust that the system provided will give their arc a real chance of being played, but it won't. If you don't promote you need to be lucky really to get any plays. I don't believe that is the expectation of the average player and I really don't feel that is how it should be.

This is not a "doom and gloom" thread it is simple observations. MA has been on a downward spiral for at least a month pre-I16, but I16 has greatly accelerated this effect. As an example pre-I16 my arcs got plays fairly regularly (though some way more than others), but they all got plays. As it stands now since I16 was released I can count on one hand the number of plays my four arcs have gotten. The few plays come mostly from one arc and two of the arcs have gotten 0 plays.

    Quote:
No slam intended to the OP, but MA isn't in need of "saving." It's in need of fixing. There's a difference.
If something is in need of fixing and it is not addressed, it will "die" or more exactly be relegated to a small number of die-hards. See bases or arenas for examples of this effect.

    Can MA be saved?

I am guessing most people, like myself, are very discouraged by the treatment the Dev's have given Mission Architect and how it seems fruitless to make new arcs. Most of the review threads have dried up and the flow of new arcs has slowed to a snail’s pace.

This trend seriously depresses me because I felt the Mission Architect was the best innovation this game has seen. I joined this game shortly after launch (pre-issue 1) so I have seen them all. Honestly, before I14 I was starting to consider canceling at least one of my family’s accounts, but Mission Architect really breathed new life into the game. I had so much fun writing arcs, got so much pleasure having other players enjoy my arcs and the amount of enjoyment I got from playing the new content other players created was exciting.

Now however, I feel MA is on life support and fading fast. The issues I see are:

1 – It is just way too difficult to find the “real” arcs in the sea of test, farm or abandoned arcs for the average player.

2 – The reduction in exp that has reduced MA farms has also badly curtailed the average player from playing in MA and it's hard to blame them.

3 – The rating system that buries excellent arcs with 100’s plays on page 300 plus because they are “only” 4 stars. Think what you will, but with the current system anything other than a 5 star rating is negative because it reduces the chance of your arc being played.

4 – Dev’s Choice is poorly implemented and not used. The few lucky people that got Dev’s Choice (most during Beta) have enjoyed page 1 treatment for six months.

I sincerely hope something is done to address the issues with MA and it is done in reasonable time fame. My question to everyone is can it be revived and if so how?
