While that may be true, will they sell worse than the Leprechaun pet is selling? I don't honestly know, but I have to think, simply based on price, more people would buy the individual costume pieces since they could easily afford it, and are more likely to indulge as an impulse buy if they are only spending about a dollar.

My other response to that is: release something that is non-specific, but highly usable.

    -An actual motorcycle style helmet
    -A redesigned trenchcoat
-Travel-power activated costume pieces (like a Rocket Boots variation with boosters in different locations, with a different colored exhaust).

Hell, release a generic one-off jet pack that activates when a Flight power is activated, price it reasonably, and I guarantee it will sell. (Yes, I'm aware both jet packs coming with the Retro Sci-Fi pack are generic looking or have a generic looking option.)

Admittedly, I did not buy the fireman's hat, but that's because I have no use for a costume piece as specific as that and I am sure I was not the only one. If they release generic pieces, the appeal will naturally be much higher.

  2. Catch that thread!

I have already given my thoughts regarding the Leprechaun pet.

What I want to know is: why all the vanity pets? Let's see some more one-off costume pieces like the fireman's hat. They sell for lower prices, maintaining the "micro" in micro-transactions, which means more people are likely to buy them. In turn, that means the amount of time spent making the piece (most likely less than that spent making a vanity pet) is made back quicker, and with fewer customers. It's a win/win.

Seriously, smaller things are better if you want to maintain this weekly release schedule.
  3. I consider it is a real shame that so many new players are blowing past the older content in favor of fast and easy progression (DFB, DIB, etc.). So I am going to have to check this out. Looking forward to it, Lycantropus!
  4. Thanks for posting the sales, Chad. Not quite what I was hoping for, but hey, German Shepard pet on sale is a start!
  5. One word: Sales. Where are they?

I am a minimalist determined to "survive" off of my VIP stipend, I tend not to buy something until I have a use for it. Unless there is a sale! Then skewed logic comes into play, and I buy something which I may have been on the fence about buying, because I might use it at some point and may as well get it while it is cheaper.

I like Street Justice, but I currently have no conceptual use for Street Justice. Regardless though, if you put that set up for sale at 600pp (like you did with Beam Rifle upon its release) I would buy it in a heartbeat! The same applies for:
    -The CoT costume bundle
    -The Steampunk costume bundle
    -The Imperial Dynasty costume bundle
    -Character Slots
    -Inventory size increases
I am sure I missed some stuff, but that is just off the top of my head.

For anything that has been on the market for 3+ months, I have to guess that those that wanted it have purchased it. But "bubble buyers" like myself may not have taken the plunge yet. Why not lower the price at this point, just for a week, and get some extra money?

My two biggest "bubble" items are Street Justice and the CoT bundle. You put those at 25% off, and you'll have my points right quick.

I really hope that is not their mentality. That's poor business logic if ever I heard it.

I'm frugal with this game. I prefer to maintain my subscription and live off my stipend. However, the quickest way to get me to start forking over extra dough would be to put highly desirable items on 25% off (or more) week-long sales.

Although given that in Ireland we use Leprechauns chiefly to make tourists pay over the odds for tat I suppose it is appropriate enough that Paragon Studios do the same (we also use them for slave labour in our underground Guinness mines).
I lol'd at the second paragraph.

Yes, people paid for the other vanity pets. Some were easily justified as "funding development." (For example, many people bought the German Shepard pet to fund further use of the four-legged rig.) And the "flying disc" (because "Frisbee" is actually a trademark, like "Kleenex") may be a testing ground for something a little more substantial down the line, using similar animations or tech. For the record though, I haven't bought the German Shepard nor the flying disc.

Personally, I have no use for any vanity pets, so I would not have purchased the leprechaun at any price. As much as I want to fund further development for the studio, I am only going to fund the things that I feel are worth funding (which is mostly power sets and costumes).

    Cannot find map!

Server Status page shows Pinnacle, Exalted, Liberty, Victory, Virtue, and Freedom as online, as of now.

To be sure, I am not saying that BM is in better shape and should be released first. I am simply using deductive reasoning: they tend to release an Intrepid Informer article about a power set or piece of content just a short while before it will be released, and since we have the BM article, but have yet to see the Staff Fighting one, it is logical that Beast Mastery would be released prior to Staff Fighting, but I am betting it won't be for another 2 weeks.

    Pinn is down

According to the server status page, we're back online. So get off the forums and back in the game!
  11. Unfortunately, Staff isn't "essentially done." Mercurial Strike still does not animate in the character creator, and my guess is they are taking another look at the sound effects, considering the ones they have now don't really match either. As much as I'm looking forward to Staff Fighting, I would rather wait another 3-4 weeks and have them perfect it.

I pretty much knew Beast Mastery was coming before Staff Fighting when we got the latest Intrepid Informer article.

And I have to agree with what JayboH said earlier: it makes the most business sense to hold off until after 2XP weekend.
  12. I said... I JUST SAID to myself yesterday, as I was reading a post (don't even remember what or where): "Man, I miss Bill. He'd have something good to say regarding this."

Good to have you back, even if it may be only temporarily. My condolences as well.

That is easily in the realm of possibility, but it will depend on a number of factors, chiefly among them will be whether or not enough people want to go for another time around (most seem content with the one-and-done). For my own part, I know I have a couple alts I intend to gain a few levels with, but I hope to have had enough time by Sunday night that I won't mind leading a second and skipping the "xp" part of 2XP weekend.

Short answer: we'll see that evening. Fortunately, the Ship Raid does not require much planning or forethought and, if the desire for a second raid is present, we can take a 5 minute break for people to switch characters and such, and then jump right back to it.
  14. Good raid last night, Pinnacle. I am very glad to see people continually coming out to fill the league. It means they must at least be semi-enjoyable. Or maybe you are just there because you don't know where you'll find teammates otherwise . Either way, I'm glad you all keep showing up. As always, if there is any way in which I can help make the experience smoother and/or more enjoyable for you, don't hesitate to let me know!

    Updated for this week.
  15. Here, you all want something really worrisome? Go read the latest Intrepid Informer article. It's about Beast Mastery, not Staff Fighting, and last I checked, they released the power set Intrepid Informer articles prior to said power set going live.

What will it be like when we get Beast Mastery before Staff Fighting? Gosh, there are so many picture memes, I can't pick one...

(Disclaimer: True enough, I posted there hoping for Staff Fighting prior to Beast Mastery, but considering MMs have gotten nothing for a while, Beast Mastery should probably come first.)
  16. Adele - In every mission she hands out, you are confronting and/or breaking up with her boyfriend or one of her ex-boyfriends.

Robert DeNiro - Double checks with you every time you contact him to make sure that you are, indeed, talkin' to him.

Nick Cage - Most of his missions won't have much of a plot. His missions may take you to some obscure locations. You may not even understand what it is he's asking you to do on some missions. But gosh darn it! They will be plentiful and probably leave you with a decent amount of inf.

Definitely. If memory serves, it is the later arcs that actually have missions where your choice of words or actions can influence the course of the mission.

I'm pretty careful to not write my own in ways that make them likely subject to conflict with canon reveals or retcons. Because of this, they do therefore usually start as "A character", and become more epic though events that come later.
This is a big point for me. All of my characters have "the CoX Universe" tied into their story. Some are more tied in than others (I have characters that are simply heroes of the city, and I have others like my Archery/Dev blaster who was Manticore's secret apprentice). Doing this simply makes sense to me: I'm playing this game, my characters should be tied into this game.

I prefer characters that are part of something larger than themselves, and I tend to limit their power to reflect that. (None of my characters, yet, have concepts that have called for every Incarnate power.) Those are the characters that interest me: the ones that shine in their respective niches.

To keep this post short: I guess I gravitate towards "A"-type characters, and I actually find "The"-type characters to be less dynamic in that the absolute nature of them provides less wiggle-room for change and development.
  19. Going Rogue/Praetoria/Issue 18 really introduced this into the game in conjunction with the alignment system. The whole idea of how your actions could influence your character's fate (a mechanic of which I am quite fond). It hasn't seen much other use red or blue side up to now.

According to your name, you are a VIP, so you should have access to Praetoria. If you like this mechanic I suggest heading over there and running through a bunch of those arcs.
  20. D'Awwww. This is phenomenal! Congrats TA and Sassy. I wish you both much happiness.

(And that is a kick-*** picture)
  21. Considering we are getting the Beast Mastery Intrepid Informer before the Staff Fighting Intrepid Informer, does that mean we are getting Beast Mastery before Staff Fighting?

If Beast Mastery has been asked for "since time immemorial," Staff Fighting has to be that +1, at least.

It's a very cool power set, and I know the new four legged rig is even cooler. But considering we've gotten the German Shepard, the Black Wolf, and the Coyote Travel Power, let's give the quadrupeds a break, just for a few weeks, and go with Staff Fighting first. Please?
  22. Thanks for the responses!

Its kind of gimped because it does not get the full DDR that the scrapper/brute/tank version gets and it is missing a passive so you do not get the full benefit of the scaling resists. You might as well play ninjutsu instead since you can heal with it. While Ninjutsu does have the knockback issue its easily fixed with IOs.
I am typically a single target oriented player. I actually prefer to take targets on one at a time, rather than destroying them all at once with AoE attacks (I know, I am in the minority). With that said, does MA become any more worthwhile?

While I am fine with playing Ninjitsu, would the one missing passive make that big of a difference? obviously it would where resistance to Toxic and Psionic is concerned, but are the DEF Debuff Res. numbers that different?

  23. Whether or not that was a jab at my noobish question, I am not sure. In either case, good point!
  24. While I haven't played them on Stalkers necessarily, I have played Broad Sword, Katana/Ninja Blade (practically the same set with the same animations), and Dual Blades (your three sword choices).

As you say, Katana is anything but the flashy weapon you see used in movies like Equilibrium, or Kill Bill. The animations do not link together well, and there's that obnoxious "return to neutral" stance befor executing the next attack. It's a nice power set, just dated in terms of animation.

Broad Sword just isn't that fun unless you are building an armor clad medieval knight. Then the slow, chunky animations look about right. The set packs a punch, but it also defines "hack and slash" combat in that it feels like that is all your doing. You get the sense that this is a big weapon, that doesn't need to be precise because it will damage the enemy regardless.

Dual Blades is the most flashy of the three, and the animations link together well. Definitely gives the illusion that the character is light on its feet (so a Huge model using dual blades can look kind of funny).

I recommend rolling one of each, taking each through a quick Death From Below trial, and deciding for yourself.

As for combos, I recommend SR or WP, but that's because I am not a fan of the constant clicking you have to do with a /Regen. Passive buffs are my friend.

    There's my 2 cents.
