The advice I would give has been given but is worth emphasising a good tank is a fire blasters best mate in my experience and tbh vice versa, though that experience has been from the PoV of the Tanker as I never could quite do Fire Blasters without a million faceplants
Given my Tankers perspective advice and just because I feel it rates it...

get a tank that can handle the aggro (this means auras and slotted taunt(s), not just wacking things randomly).

My two inf on this one,
Hasten: It's priceless the extra recharge is just handy for so many things so I cant reccomend it enough.
Aid Self: I am not a fan, but and its a big but my tank builds all tend to be more of a balance between Aggro management and mushing stoof. For a defensive minded tank I really can see the benefit though the need to 6 slot worries me as I suspect better uses can be found.
All in all I would go for Hasten if you can only make room for one of them but its one of those debates that is alot to do with play style I think.
Hope that helps

Few bits and bobs to suggest tweaking, the inevitable disclaimer: Although I have played a Fire/Fire in the past and my Fire/NRG is 33 atm and doing pretty well in SC I dont claim to be an expert.
1. Your shields will be fine with just 1 end redux and 3 Res buffs really dont need anymore than that in my experience.
2. I have healing flames with 2 heals and 1 end redux as it can be an end hog and 2 heals does just fine beacause coupled with hasten you get a pretty good recharge rate.
3. Super jump doesnt eat enough end in my experience to need a redux so I slot for Jump instead.
4. Blazing Aura could do with 3 end redux if you are going to run it all the time I find it eats end pretty quick.
5. Consume could benifit from an Acc.
6. Not sure about your support teamwise but if you aren't gonna have a Sonic Resonance or Emp with Forti around I would advise trying to fit in the Fighting pool and Tough as Fire isnt the strongest of Res sets.
Have no real experience with Ice Melee so I wont presume to advise on it.
All this is just my personal opinion and I hope these bits of advice help

I can level enough HP to make a tank take notice. It was more fun when AS dropped all toggles mind.

lol now that depends on your perspective, Tank thanks that that aint the case!

Quality PvP tanking!
How effective are Stalkers at taking down tanks anyways? Is the AS enough to make tankers raise their eyebrows? Or do they stand there and go "'tis but a scratch!" Monty-Python-Black-Knight stylee?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well AS can make me raise an eyebrow, even both of em on occasion on White Sentinel (My Fire/EM Tank) Had a great laugh in SC yesterday or the day before with a Stalker ASing me and me hitting heal and taunt then failing to deal enough damage before said stalker poofed out of sight, really enjoyed it as we exchanged tells between jousts
[ QUOTE ]
I just love the misconception that Stalkers really only have AS to kill people with, it's the AT's biggest character flaw really.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yup that is a big mistake to make Stalkers AS is scary to be sure but any good Stalker will have more than one string to their bow. Never assume your opponent can only do one thing, its a reciepe for humiliation and a quick hossie trip

I have to admit the replies here have got me excited about getting to 38 and trying it out now. It better be worth the wait

I am resonabley confident you'll find it is!

Essentially you're trading off 20% of healing power for a powerset which is WAY more useful than a few piddly blasts.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure I entirely agree (disagree with Xanth oh dear I may regret that) but as I stated before I think its a matter of play style and I cant disagree with the fact that control kicks the proverbial in PvP. Still I like my blasts but all personal taste I guess.
[ QUOTE ]
The best Defender primaries for PvP are FF and Sonic imo, since they definitely cause the most problems for the opposite side (force bubble, Sonic Cage etc).
[/ QUOTE ]
On this one I will heartly agree, FF and Sonic can be a royal ---- to deal with and can turn a good team into something truly scary, of course its all Xanths fault after a Shards TF a ways back that I have a Sonic def now, far too many alts....
Cheers,

All in all I think both ideas have merit and of course being an Emp Def at heart I have my view slightly coloured. -

it is very slow but worth it. don't use it dircetly after you use aim and build you will waste 3 sec of the duration. use it at the end of the buffs.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd never use it after either tbh, unless its AV/RB directed.
Even then, I'd be more interested in using PowerBoost then the others... it's simply not worth the buff-waste, and it's accurate enough as it is, with 2x ACC.
I mean, let's face it..
"Siren's Song": MAG3 Mez (sleep)
"Screech": MAG3 Mez (disor)
"Total Focus": MAG1 and MAG3 Mez (disor)
"Dreadful Wail": MAG3 (disor)
Add "PowerBoost" to ANY one of those, to boost secondary effects..
What's not to like there?
[/ QUOTE ]So you're a troller now? Last time I checked and AFAIK the only mag 3 blasters powers that stun are... TF, with a chance to do an extra mag 1 (let's not talk about KB mag, it's too complicated for me to worry about). Mag 3 sleeps? Doesn't look right to me :/
[/ QUOTE ]
Working my Sonic/Ice Blaster atm only 22 atm but those numbers are the ones I have from Hero Builder, as ever not sure about the accuracy but I would say from my experience the Mag on Sirens Song is about right it is very good and a life saver PvE. Like Plight I am not sure about Mag 3 Stun as I thought that was only on things like TF but since that is pretty much all that Screech does it could be right and it doesnt have the second hit for Mag 1.

Considerably is too harsh of a word, the power drop off isn't that bad.
To be fair, for example Empathy, many Defender sets would be better as controller secondaries as Power Boost is up so much more than Power Build Up.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed the power drop off isnt a huge loss. Also valid point on Power Boost vs Power Build Up, though Build Up is available 6 lvls earlier iirc, its still over all weaker than Power Boost.
I like my Blasts and Total Focus to add a little to damage in PvP and the fact that I can focus better on my heals, buffs and Power Pools as I dont have to many powers I want to take and slot heavily from Blasts as opposed to the many, many I'd want from most Troller PrimariesAll that said a /Emp Troller is definately on my (insanely long
) to do list.
IMO its a lot to do with style of play which is one of the best parts of CoX and in particular its PvP aspect. Overall I would say an Emp/? Def vs a ?/Emp Troller is a pretty even call and tbh they'll both provide a great mix of highs "ZOMG me and my teammates just owned everydamn thing!" and adrenalin packed lows "Behind you!" "Whaaa??... arggh Stalker/Brute .... OUCH!"

All in all I really can reccomend PvP as an Empath

Playing a PvP empath is one of the biggest adrenaline rush you can get from the Empathy set.

This statement is absolutely true, never a dull moment

Well for my 2 inf worth as an Emp/Energ Def I have had a good amount of sucess in PvP both Zonal and recently in the Arena duoing with Hammer (who posted above) on his Energy/Energy Blaster. As TG eloquently pointed out soloing in the zones can be a total nightmare but a few of you will have seen me float about RV not dieing too much but I dont go looking for trouble, of course if I stay still too long it'll find me
Gank the squishy/buffer is a common tactic but it is used for a good reason.
In my experince in the Zones on teams you really can shine as an Empath and make a huge difference in any fight if you are good enough to stay alive, which in my experience is a balance of well timed self heals, good mobility and a team you can trust to help you out and realise keeping you up and running is well worth it. In particular Fortitudes defences and Clear Minds Status Prot and allways handy +Perception can have a massive effect making your team so much more effecient.
Other defender ATs also have good uses but I will leave the discussion of those to far wiser and more experienced minds
All in all I really can reccomend PvP as an Empath, just remember you have a huge sign over your head saying "Gank me now before my team gank you!"
Hope that helps.
