That doesn't quite work well with his primary goal of something powerful out of the blocks, Super Reflexes is the King of late bloomers.
  2. And go buy the boxed DVD set of the series, it has 2-3 episodes that never aired. It's cheap too, usually runs less than $20 and can occasionally be found on Amazon for $10.

1-20: Default difficulty. (I hate missing and I don't have Stamina slotted.)
    21-30: 0/x2
    30-40: +1/x4
    40-49: +2/x4
    50: +2/x8

If the secondary is strong or the scrapper has good synergy I will slide this maybe 5 levels early.
I stand by the comments I made on this specific build as I've leveled one up. Claws attacks are very endurance efficient with Spin being the primary tool used for handling large spawn numbers. It wasn't until I added in eviscerate, shockwave and some big defensive toggles that I started feeling any kind of strain on the blue bar, and by that time I had both QR and Stamina slotted. Accuracy didn't seem like that big of a deal either, or maybe I had a low level kismet unique IO slotted, either way +1 or +2 isn't that big of a deal. Play it safe if you must, but I had no problems upping the difficulty slider on my Claws/WP brute, and early.

*EDIT- And for that matter, I know my shield scrappers run at a higher difficulty than that as well. I generally run at +1/x8 once I get shield charge fully slotted, and by 46 I'm running at +4/x8 so I have a chance at some purple drops. My later game builds are pretty well slotted with pricey IO's though, so maybe thats the difference in our two adjustments.
  4. I've done the shield route many times, and it's end game possibilites make it an epic set, but based on what your looking for a shielder might not be the best. Really, a shielder won't truely shine till mid 30's when you can start working towards the defense softcap and get SC fully slotted. That gives you a run of 10-15 levels of increasing uberness there towards the end.

I can do you better, can have you padding your missions as low as level 6-10, and being truely unstoppable in the later game. Claws / Willpower, and I chose brute but I suppose a scrapper could do the same in a pinch. I chose brute because the fury mechanic works great when solo as you'll stay at max fury easily with noone to compete against for aggro and mob hate, plus a little more HP's and a higher resist cap work great with willpower. You'll get Spin at level 6 (which with max fury is pure win every few seconds), follow-up at 8 for more damage from spin, and focus at 18, that plus the early attacks is primarily all you need from claws. Willpowerwise take FH at 4, IW at 10, RTTC at 16 and QR at 20 and it's off to the races.

There's no reason not to up the difficulty to +2/X4 in the early teens and by the early 20's you could go ahead and start working towards +2/x8 once everything is fully slotted with SO's. Start layering you in some defense as you level and you can reach softcaped to S/L in the late game making you even that much more durable.

*EDIT - I see you cross posted this in the brute forum as well and this was already suggested.
  5. Great post, I'm trying to decide the same thing for my ElM/SD scrapper. He's currently got the Blaze mastery but I'm concidering going rogue and grabbing the Mu set instead. I'd love to hear some feedback here as well.
  6. I was prepared to not like it, because I have always taken phalanx fighting, I mean it's free boost to def for yourself that needs no slotting and uses no endurance. But it looks like you pulled it off, very nice build. The only thing I can think of to improve on it would be your final pick of super speed. Personally I'd take grant cover there for the DDR it grants which helps a ton when fighting in Cimora and other guys who debuff your defenses. If you like your travel power though and ninja run aint fast enough, I'd at least drop the KB protection as it isn't doing you that much good, maybe put the Winter's Gift slow resistance there.

    Kudos on a good build.
  7. Yea, I've had to follow up shield charge with a fireball now to clear a spawn. I sensed the Council Empire troopers were happy with the release notes detailing the change, but then I mowed em all down with alternating rounds of Shield Charge, Lightning Rod, Thunderstrike and Fireball and their celebration was short lived.
  8. Here's my tank, you'll have to work harder at it but you might be able to get some ideas from my build. The key is getting as many Kinetic Combats in there that you can, which will be expensive, and also not gimping your attack chain in trying soo hard for the defense. My build worked IMO, he's as sturdy as they come, softcapped to S/L and big time resists plus a top notch heal.

And don't worry about the primary if you like the sword more, sure there are some better choices out there for optimum farming, but you're going to be staring at that toon for some long boring stetches of time, chose something you enjoy. I enjoy my BS/SD toon for farming almost as much as my ElM/SD guy.

    I LOL'ed!

I'm thinking of going with /inv with my new KM brute. I've done shield and willpower on too many scrappers and brutes so far and want to try something new (for me).
  10. Man, thats a long way to go to not get fireball...your soo close and you'd love it soo much. I'd drop parry and try to get it, toying with your build now but it's tight.
  11. Thanks for the advice crew, it was all very helpful. Fury's build helped the most as it boosted my ranged defense which was what I was short on, while not changing my power picks. This is a level 50 toon, so I've already done the leveling grind, I'm familiar with parry and how it helps, but it doesn't fit in my attack chain and I hit the melee softcap without it. And I know two travel powers (and teleport for that matter) is really not needed and I could do much better with some of my pool choices, but it's a concept build based around a time traveler/manipulator so TP and Hasten/SS just work for him.

Thanks again for all the great input.
  12. Breath of Fire that comes out of the mouth on huge models...not the nose.
  13. Hyperion from the Squadron Supreme/Sinister universe in Marvel.
  14. My first toon to 50 was an FA/Axe Tanker. That was a long and painful road. I had managed at the end to get him softcapped to S/L and E/N but it was an extreme build to say the least but definitely took the squishy feel away. I wish I could say that I'd dust him off now and play him again, but IMO nothing plays like a Scrapper/Brute.

You can stack a max of 5 of these, so after 5 attacks you will max out at a 156.13% damage buff. I have successfully hit the cap with a L11 character who just has the first 3 attacks - the real barrier to hitting the cap is the killing your current target and having to run to the next one :-).

So, your peak damage bonus will actually be 50% higher than build up, although without a lot of opponents around you will probably not get more than 1-2 attacks in at this value. The buffs do not go away when the power siphon effect 'ends', lasting for their entire 10 second duration, which means the actual duration of power siphon is somewhere between 20-30 seconds, until all the buffs fade.

Note that power siphon itself gives you a 7.5% to hit buff that does not require you to actually hit - while that is more in line with follow up than build up it is basically free, where follow up requires you to hit to get its to hit buff. I kind of consider power siphon to be a weird 3 way cross between follow up, build up and brute fury. One thing I know for certain - it does NOT play like either build up or follow up, using it successfully will require different tactics. I haven't completely figured them out myself but I think all the complaints about how it is so 'puny' compared to build up are from folks that expect it to behave the same way. They fire it off, hit thier biggest attack and basically get no benefit.
Ahh, I get it, so just something else that will amp up scrapperlock! The team I group with is going to love this.
  16. Doh, my bad. I'm in too many threads at once and like I said, I've got quite a few willpower and shield defense toons. My point still stands (almost), Fire Sword Circle is pretty uber all by itself and throw in a little fireball action and you have some good AoE potential.

  18. Well, looks like you've gone FM/SD which is hard to argue against, I've got one myself.

Just in case you change your mind and decide to go with one you've got instead at some point, that FM/WP scrapper you have sitting at 34 would also be a prime choice. My main is a FM/WP scrapper that is softcapped to S/L, has solid resists, ungodly regen and recovery, a ST attack chain that will melt faces and an AoE attack chain of FSC, Shield Charge and Fireball thats not too shabby. Oh, and unlike Shielders, I aint getting hit with the nerf bat any time soon and I can wade into a couple full +4/X8 spawns WITH bosses and then go get a sammich and coke.

as far as SO or Single Origin enhancements are concerned, you can start slotting them after 22, slot both shield charge and lightning rod 1 acc, 3 dmg and 2 recharge.
All other attacks 1-2 acc, 3 dmg and 1 end redux. 1 end redux and 3 def for deflection and battle agility, 1 end redux in against all odds, 1 recharge in active defense. true grit probably just 3 health if u can fit them in.
Yea, Fury's thread has alot of great builds, and the cheap ones really get the job done. As a shielder it really wouldn't hurt to start playing with IO sets early, I wouldn't wait until 50. Every bit of added defense you can get will make you just that much more sturdy. And really, there are plenty of cheap IO sets that you could put together in your attacks that will greatly enhance your playtime. At the least I would slot Crushing Impacts in all your attacks, you can start putting those sets together at 30, they're super cheap, and a 5-slot set will increase your HP's, Accuracy and Recharge...not shabby at all.

Don't let a budget hold you back, head to the market board here and read a few posts, there are quite a few quick and easy ways to make inf in this game if your smart about it.

    Good luck.
  20. How does this build look for my final respec on my BS/SD scrapper? I've got a couple dueced out scrappers already that can handle all my farming/TF'ing/PvP'ing/PvE'ing needs. So I wanted to finish out this guy as I have a great name and concept for him so he'll be primarily a concept/PvE/Team build.

The only concerns is, how much am I going to hate not softcapping ranged, and will I be able to string together any kind of ST attack chain?

Thanks for any and all help...

Now having up to about 16 Powers from both Primary and Secondary will
leave only about 7, 3 of which reserved to get Stamina and Health which
need either Swift or hurdle to get.
This leaves only 4 Powers left to choose, and to behoest that makes
deciding on what use it onquite tough since there will be Patron Powers
    to aquire as well.
I'd figure you'd probably shy away from the patron and epic pool powers as you generally have to pick a power you wouldn't want in order to get to the really good ones after it.
  22. ...Sadly has nothing to do with CoH Scrappers.
  23. Even with a build, you'll likely not see much feedback, you've picked a combo thats not all that common. But worry not, I've been in your shoes...well, kind of. My first toon I made when I started playing CoX was a FA/Axe Tanker, so some things might be a bit different from the direction you are going, but you might be able to get something from my build.

I managed to softcap S/L defense (which wasn't cheap BTW) which made me feel not quite as squishy as other FA'ers. Make sure you slot Blazing aura good, and also your PBAoE and cone attacks, then find you a demon farm and go to town. Good Luck!

Yea, thats pretty much the definition of "late bloomer". In contrast, /WP is strong right out of the box and only gets better as you invest more into it. My Claws/WP brute was one of the first toons where I started playing with the difficulty slider before level 10. Once you have Spin, Focus, RttC, FH and QR slotted you become a blender of death, it's truely easy mode. Start layering in some defense and resists with tough/weave and manuevers in the 20's and 30's and you'll be a beast. I managed to softcap mine to S/L/E/N and he truely is unstoppable.

My /SR scrapper, yea, cheap to softcap, +recharge in quickness, nicer DDR, but other than that my /WP toons feel tougher in battle and seem to offer me more.
