That it was done using the Cryptic Engine which has powered the game since launch?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This part.

The way I figure it, it's just as likely that they've been working on their own codebase that would work on, or be easily adaptable to, any engine that they decide to use.... sorta like how Java subapps can be "ratcheted" into other Java apps.

and the announcement of a "new" character creator that will allow us to make characters in any order we choose to without having to constantly go back and forth like we do now...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess I'm too lazy to go search for this or memory is just hazy but when did the devs announce a new character creator for this game?

    *cough cough*

What is the damage scale of defenders ???

    Too low.

I thought NCSoft bought - not leased - the game engine when they bought CoX in its entirety, and keeping the Cryptic logo around was just part of the deal.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    correct.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Evidence?
  8. Why then when I select a teammate in a mission on another floor and set them as a waypoint, it often says that they are X number of yards above or below me?

And all that time spent doing something in the Cryptic Engine like powers customisation

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are making a big assumption there.

Why isn't this technology being used?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because tilesets aren't next to each other, they are on top of each other, and like, hundreds of "feet" away.

After the failure and horror that was Auto Assault I never want to see Completely Destructible Environments again. Honestly Paragon would end up looking like Boomtown.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So then leave it to instanced missions... OR even better, let people have MORE XP by helping to BUILD what others destroy and not give ANY XP for destroying things. That should balance it out.
  12. Now, NOTHING is impossible!

Yes, I know half of you will be cringing about this. Just be thankful that I didn't start a new thread for it like I was going to.
  13. ONE??? I can't choose one feature, so I'll try to limit myself to two.

    1) Completely destructible environments.

    2) Weather. I want to fight in the rain and snow, dammit!
  14. lolSchedules.

I haven't scheduled a TF in YEARS. See the guide in my sig? Read it and enjoy. In fact, I just got off of a Manticore TF, on Justice, that was a blast. I started with 8 players and after one guy flaked out during the first mission, the rest of us had a ball all the way to the end.

The funnest part was that Manticore's TF is bugged so you'll see level 40(!!!) Paragon Protectors in a TF that's only supposed to have level 35-37 enemies.

After our first wipeout due to the pumped up PPs, we figured a strategy to kill them because we didn't want to wait for the GMs to clear the mission for us.

After that, the AV at the end was a cakewalk... he was about three times easier than the 20 level 40 PPs we had to go through.
  15. By the way, the best way to have FUN while leveling up fast?

Run your own TFs. Lots of them. I love it.

I don't mean the "cheap" ones either, I mean like the ones that will get you Task Force Commander.

I have SO much fun forming a full team of 50s that want to do them for the badges (and there ALWAYS are some out there) that they never even notice that I'm the only one that needs an SK and that I'm the only one that's at the BOTTOM level required to get into the TF.

And then I proceed to level up like crazy.

By the end of any TF, I've either outlevelled it or am halfway to the next TF already. Rinse and repeat.

The high level characters get their shiny badges and a chance to play at a "challenging" lower level again without all their fancy powers, and I get PLed while having a good time and fighting epic battles for a story reason.

    Everyone wins.

I just have to ask it, why? Just what the hell do you plan to do with that character after getting to 50 in such a short time and skipping over 90% of the game's content?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ^^^ This.

Leave the minimums in place as a guideline and a warning of TF/SF difficulty. Allow the virtual team slider to be recognized by the minimum team size check.

    Everyone wins.

I approve of this and can see no reason why anyone wouldn't.
  18. I read through all the dev posts here and something doesn't seem to make sense.

Why would they transfer over Traps/AR rather than Thermal/Fire?

It has been said that the sets were picked due to "ease of implementation", but isn't a set that uses a whole bunch of different devices/sprites/models more complex than two sets that only use colored powers without separate devices/sprites/models to animate?

Welcome to the world known as the Defender forums. There are some of us that try to actually make constructive comments, but most don't. More so the people that tend to poke threads first. As I said, not all of the Defender forum people are this way, just a high population that post a lot are.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Most Defender forumites have become jaded from having to keep telling people the same basic truths over and over again. How they respond to their own Jadidity (I made up a new word!) is the separate responses that has been categorized here.

What Philly doesn't tell you is how he really wishes Forcefields was called Bubblegum Domination.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now THAT would be awesome... just think of all the sticky gooeyness that you could accomplish with such a powerset. It would actually be the polar opposite of FF, or at least its mirror image. It would have "bubbles" sure, but the rest of the powers?

Where FF has knockback, Bubblegum Domination would have holds and immobilizes. But it would make a better Controller primary instead.

In fact, if that existed... I might actually PLAY Controllers!

Patch notes for July 19th, 2009:

    * Power customization introduced! Power customization is now available to the following powerset: Electrical Manipulation. Players can customize the following power: Lightning Clap. Available color: Olive Green.

    * Known issues: Power customization does not yet work with Blaster -> Electrical Manipulation -> Lightning Clap. This will be resolved in a future patch.

You know what that sound is? The sound of a point going over your head.

Good thing that the pig got it.
