So im pretty sure it can run the Incin>GFS>Cremate>FS chain.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    It can.
  3. It's an unfinished project already, so I'd rather not add an MA/SD build to my list of to dos. The point was to compare all primaries using a very similar build template designed for top DPS. Not all primaries can use Shields, so I didn't use Shields for the comparison.

You'll probably get some good MA/SD builds if you ask in the Scrapper forum.

As for critiquing your Invulnerability/Super Strength build, I'll leave that to the tanker experts, which I am not.
  4. Incinerate has amazing DPS and DPE, so I'm not sure how you smoked Marauder faster without it. Might be down to slotting or something.

Can you run the Incinerate -> Greater Fire Sword -> Cremate -> Fire Sword chain? It's a very good one if you can handle the endurance and don't have the recharge for something better, and half your attacks are swords.

    [ QUOTE ]
Do not know the numbers but for fun I was running scorch >fire sword >scorch >cremate type chain I was hammering away at marauder before he got a couple lucky hits my endurance bar never ever moved

    [/ QUOTE ]
Worse DPS than any of the chains we've been discussing, worse EPS than Incinerate -> Scorch -> Cremate -> Scorch.

With your endurance bar never moving using that, you may be able to handle the endurance for Incinerate -> Greater Fire Sword -> Cremate -> Fire Sword (0.32 EPS higher before taking endurance reduction into account). It's like running one more toggle.

When nobody but you is having a problem with the set, and many of us find the set to be overpowered rather than underpowered, the burden of “proof” would be on you to show why ALL of us are wrong.

As for who started it, I'll grant you that Kioshi said “cry moar please” before going on to explain to you why Shield Defense doesn't suck. But you VASTLY escalated it with your reply. You are INSANELY over sensitive. YES, I'm saying I would have taken it. I'd have responded with a more detailed explanation of why I was right and Kioshi was wrong. Upon discovering that EVERYONE disagreed with me, not just one person, I'd have carefully reexamined my own position. If I still felt that I was right, but had no proof, I'd have simply backed down. If I felt I could answer all of the points and still prove my position, I'd have done so.

What I wouldn't have done is started calling everyone names and suggesting they kill themselves for daring to disagree with me.

Sorry, but I still lay this one almost entirely at your feet.

As with the brouhaha in the PvP forum, when EVERYONE is attacking you, and it keeps happening, you might want to look at your own behavior. Maybe, just maybe, you might have done something to instigate it? Maybe? No? Ah, well. No skin off my back.

You might have instead thought, “Hmm, nobody else seems to have a problem with Shields. They're so happy with it that they seem to think I'm not just wrong, but absolutely and completely off base. I wonder what they're doing differently than me. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Maybe I should ask them what they're doing. Maybe I should ask for help.” You might have instead then asked for help. Had THAT been your response, you probably would have gotten help, and you'd be kicking [censored] right now with your Broad Sword/Shields. You're apparently far too overproud for that, though. OK. Again, no skin off my back if your character continues to disappoint you.

As I said in my original post, it seems obvious that you DON'T want help. You want to be RIGHT. You want everyone to acknowledge that you're RIGHT. You want the DEVS to acknowledge that you're RIGHT. That everyone disagrees with you is only a sign that we're all stupid, not that there's any chance you might not be right.

You may have noticed that people keep asking for you to post your build. What do you think, they want to see it so that they can laugh at you? Right. Granted, if you post your build, people will probably tell you what's wrong with it and how to fix it. And based on our experience in this thread so far, you'll take that as a huge insult and go off on them. Sign me up for that joy! That's why I'M not offering to help. There are PLENTY of people out on this forum that ask for help nicely. I can't even get to all of those posts.

Mind you, even HERE I'm actually trying to help. I don't expect it will work, but I'd really like you to realize that, as Panzerwaffen said, “Obsession with 'bein dissed', is an amazingly immature approach to life. A person who hasn't outgrown their concern with this by the time they make it out of grade school, is probably not likely to make it very far in life.”

Where can I download this Mids hero builder so I can post up my build? I did a search but man the crap that came back was unreal...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Here. Or you could have typed “Mids hero builder” in Google and hit “I'm Feeling Lucky”. Not sure where you're searching. On the forum? Yeah, the forum search kind of sucks.

    Am I alone?

    You're alone.

Oh, whoops. I mean that you and Powerforge are alone.

OK, you, Powerforge, SkylineGTR and junky are alone. (Maybe not so alone, then.)

Name, costume and concept are important to me. Kind of sadly so, since that conflicts with my powergamer nature. My Katana/Dark Melee is stalled out because name, costume and concept were generic. I wanted to get it started because I was looking forward to what it could be at 50 with a ton of influence spent, but then there's this whole game you have to play to get there, which isn't as fun when you have no attachment to the character.

So yeah, strange suggestion I suppose, and one you've already taken, but fiddle with costume and concept.

And yeah, Shield Charge. I couldn't figure out why everyone loved it. It's just an AoE. But I love it. I still don't know why, but I <3 Shield Charge.
  8. I have Hasten on auto.

My Hasten has no overlap, while my Practiced Brawler has quite a bit of overlap. So I figure I have (making up numbers) 30 seconds to click Practiced Brawler before it impacts my performance, and 0 seconds to click Hasten before it impacts my performance. Since I don't want my performance impacted, I put Hasten on auto. Most of the time it's great, but brain farts have killed me twice so far. Once I simply forgot to use Practiced Brawler at all when going into a mission. Once I got distracted in a gigantic fight and forgot to refresh it.
  9. Since “best chain” doesn't specifically imply “highest DPS”, I'll suggest Incinerate -> Scorch -> Cremate -> Scorch.

Compared to Incinerate -> Greater Fire Sword -> Cremate -> Fire Sword, it does 6.5% lower DPS, but uses 11% less EPS, which is a reasonable trade off for long fights. Recharge is similar, at +145% vs. +134%. The main advantage, though, is that it only requires three attacks instead of four, freeing up slots and a power choice for other aspects of your build.

Oh, and for fun, compared to Fire Sword -> Cremate -> Greater Fire Sword -> Scorch:

    1% higher DPS
    12.5% lower EPS
    69% lower recharge required
    1 less attack

So it's a win in every way.

To answer the “but I thought we just proved that Fire Sword has better DPS” reply, it does, and you can indeed swap Scorch for Fire Sword and chain Incinerate -> Fire Sword -> Cremate -> Fire Sword. However, you'll then burn 6.5% more endurance for only 3% more DPS, plus it will take +250% recharge instead of +145% recharge. So I wouldn't recommend it.

Anyway, if it were my build, I'd probably run either Incinerate -> Scorch -> Cremate -> Scorch or the top DPS chain, already mentioned by Norse, Incinerate -> Greater Fire Sword -> Cremate. It would all depend on how much recharge and recovery I was packing into the build.
  10. I've found Willpower to be surprisingly different from Regen, despite the surface similarities. Regen seems to me to be the most active secondary, and Willpower the least active (just toggle up and go).
  11. Different server. Problem soved!

Alternatively, pay for a rename of the old character.
  12. My Broad Sword/Shield Defense did great with SOs, and I'm guessing that Dark Melee/Shield Defense would be OK. But I'd probably suggest Dark Melee/Willpower. I think it'll help you easily get back into the swing of things.

Regen is still good with SOs, particularly with Katana or Broad Sword, but it gets best with tons of recharge, and recharge gets really expensive.

    3 AVs at once...

I think I understand it private builds. A lot of work goes into some of these builds. Some people want to enjoy the fruits of their own labors and perhaps expect others to put forth similar effort for similar rewards. Some people want to impress you with what they can do rather than show exactly how they did it. I think, for instance, that Shred Monkey has been such an inspiration partially because he doesn't share his builds.

As for how an Invuln can withstand 6 AVs at once, I'm thinking soft-capped defenses plus mostly smashing/lethal incoming damage. Combine with Aid Self, and poof! (Not that it's THAT simple by any stretch.)

    3 AVs at once...

    [ QUOTE ]
fairly new to AV fights, but I always thought you had to negate their regen rate.. Are you just doing so much damage that you don't need -regen in any of your attacks?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yep. AVs regenerate about 94 DPS. Most of the AV-killing builds probably do twice that or more.

(Edit: I'm probably small potatoes with about 175 DPS on both of my mains, but it's enough.)
  16. Werner

    fm/sd and dm/sd

You have to take into account their regeneration, which is about 94.24 hit points per second. So add that to what you calculated, and you're at 266 DPS for the fight.

    DPS = 28272 / seconds + 94.24

(At least for AVs with no heals or resistance.)

    (Edit: Bah, too late.)

    Shred Monkey's Dark Melee/Shield vs. AV = 303 DPS

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which AV and how fast if you remember at all?

    [/ QUOTE ]
It was Shadowhunter, but I don't remember the time. I do remember that I took into account the Dull Pain heal and buff. I'm sure I could work backward from the remembered 303 DPS, but I'm lazy.

If Shadwohunter triggers his Dull Pain “early” (i.e., when he can't take full advantage of the heal), then the 303 DPS might be overstated.

I believe Shred stated that he was at the cap for Against All Odds and Soul Drain for the whole fight.

    If I'm remembering numbers correctly:

    Iggy's Fire/Shield vs. Pylon = 276 DPS
    Shred Monkey's Dark Melee/Shield vs. AV = 303 DPS

I'd personally prefer them to put a little more emphasis on new content than powersets with interesting playstyle variants, but that's me.

I16 has TONS of new content. Suddenly mere MISSIONS are worth running!

I'd rather use FM over EM

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah. I haven't played Energy Melee, but I did poke at the numbers on a DPS tank thread. (i.e., I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV.) It looked like Fiery Melee + stuns + constantly kicking yourself in the nuts. I'm not sure that all those stuns are worth kicking myself in the nuts, but maybe they are.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
My main beef with the set is how much effort and build sacrifice it takes to feel like it's performing at an acceptable level. Out of the box, the set feels inadequate to me, even after you take every single power. So then you have to start taking *extra* powers and buying IOs to get the defense up, at which point it becomes good - but getting there takes 40-ish levels and way too many of your power choices. I like actually being able to take the primary and pool powers I *want*, rather than the ones my secondary makes me take, and I like actually feeling like I have a secondary before the late 20s/mid 30s.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Super Reflexes doesn't seem to sacrifice the rest of my build, but then I always fill my builds with pool powers that boost survivability, and they all get a Steadfast Protection IO as a minimum. So I suppose I wouldn't notice the difference. But some other sets can certainly feel stronger sooner.

In the case of my “soft cap by 36 with only one IO” project, there were definitely build sacrifices to get there, and once I got there, I didn't feel particularly more survivable than other characters of mine with much looser requirements. So I guess I see your point.
