50 plus views, and no replies?...it must be bad, was thinking of writing more but be good to get feedback on whether this is want people want or not.
seriously i dont mind....any criticism is welcome. -
ok so this is to be an ongoing post into the backstory of my main rp/er Rockcrete...its unedited at the moment but i would really appreciate any comments/criticism, if it is well recieved ill post a fuller draft, please let me know what you think
....Rain hammering down in the heavy evening gloom, he spotted two of his unit moving amongst the rubble from a nearby fallen building, amazed how a man in full armoured battle gear could move so deftly and without sound training he thought to himself that and several multimillion dollars worth of tech laced onto their suits culminating in state of the art sound suppressors.... he corrected himself with a grin.
Wiping the grime from his fatigues Lt Dmitri Alexandrovic Serov stood up, a full seven ft tall and built to match, he looked more like a professional wrestler from one of those tv shows than a special ops soldier.
Recruited by the old USSR into the army at an early age, he had surpassed training regimes with flying colours and had warranted enough praise that Colonel Golovko of the Red Army's covert Spetsnaz unit had snatched him from his regular unit.
From there it was a matter of time before he had risen in ranks to command a unit of his own. Once quoted by a GRU colonel as being "the true epitomy of a russian bear, strong, bold and a fire in his eyes that would quell a mere man just by looking at him"
Ahh but those were the days Dmitri thought to himself, running "black ops" missions across the iron curtain, often into hostile territories at night with nothing but the company of hardened troops and the heavy thwump-thwump of a Mil-Hind chopper to break the silence...he had served his country well for many years, but alas not all great things last.....
Not long after the fall of the soviet empire had a relatively unknown agency contacted him as a gun for hire, as had become rife amongst the old union, with the army becoming more of a defunct standard bearer.
Dmitri, knowing little else but the life of a soldier had readily accepted, and thus began his career with the company he knew only as "malta".
And this is where it got me, crossing the pond to Paragon, known to most as the "city of heroes"...to a plant infested city block now commonly known as "eden" the name itself caused Dmitri to smile, eden....the land created by god to house his favorite creations, well if that was true then "god" was a cruel being indeed..for eden was a place where monsters dwelt and men perished.
Dmitri had been given only one dossier to read before his unit was shipped out, containing cursory images and files on a man named Hamidon Pasimila and his radical work on ecology systems. He had at some unknown date gone rogue and declared mankind a "pox on the planet" attacking paragon time again with his army of creatures known only as the Devouring Earth.
The files were vague after this point, all that was known was some cataclysmic event had occurred and Hamidon had claimed a sector of paragon for his own and renamed it "Eden", when some of paragons finest heroes were sent in to investigate ....the survivors that returned spoke of their horror, giant 20 ft monsters that appeared from the very trees and earth itself and fleeting images of an energy being of some description that dwarfed the infamous statue of talos itself. Impossible Dmitri thought nothing could be that elaborate...yes there were men who displayed feats of incredible power but this....this reads like some kind of fantasy comic.
Well he would soon find out whether these rumors were true, as was his instructions from the company "scout out eden and bring back any possible samples of Dr Pasimila's work and at any contact with any devouring earth - capture and retrieve for collection"
Dmitri was never a man to question his orders, regardless of whether they seemed futile or not he was a soldier and soldiers followed orders, unless this was more than a routine operation?...his unit was not comprised of his regular men, mostly recent drafted recruits, which to Dmitri seemed odd.... nyet... he chided himself, orders were orders, and he must think in the here and now.
It was at that moment when he was broken from his reverie by an intense flash of light followed by a loud crack...... Dmitri dove for cover as a grove of trees 100 yrds away exploded with all the primal force of a tornado ... what the! ... the hercules had fired!?..why?...looking back he saw the silent sentinel that was the Mark IV hercules pattern Titan, gun still smoking from its onslaught, its sensor array blinking in passive mode.
What had caused it to fire he wondered?... whatever it was it was gone now, no warning systems had gone off from the perimeter his men had set up, all other sensory placed gun turrets were still dormant and his engineers reported no radar contacts .....the comm chatter was now dying down but still the question remained, why had the titan fired?
Dusting himself off, Dmitri rose and started barking commands into the comm channel, ordering a tighter perimeter....tech support to investigate the hercules, scout units on both buildings aft and fore...these completed he headed over towards the destroyed clearing with a small scout party, intent on finding who, or indeed what had spooked the hercules' targeting system into firing so abruptly....
to be continued..... -
I wouldnt say over worked Doc, more colour definition yes but as its a WiP i would say you are not at that stage yet, all in all its a v.nice start to what should be a great pic, certain elements stand out for me, the actual face shape is very well proportioned, the basic shading for the lighting angles looks good too, keep going mate and you say you did this using your mouse???...damn you must have the patience of a saint
keep us updated doc i like what i see so far -
Ok edited about 3 times as i was having trouble posting the links correctly...they should work now, let me know what you think

World Villains
1. Lord Omegon has the ulterior motive of global domination.
[/ QUOTE ]
I feel i need to make an amendment to this, Omegon does have a larger plan in effect, but as fits his character, global domination does not match his profile (but considering no one can really tell what his plans actually are, its still a guess)
He will seem glad to work for any arachnos division completing jobs that others cannot, and also will freelance to any non arachnos organisation ...so long as they do not interfere with recluses long term goals (after all he has to be seen to support his lord and master fully)
So any villain needing to "Hire" someone to do the morally questioable jobs that others wont, or to hunt heroes that others cant, then Omegon is the choice, but world domination...Pah..he hasnt got the ambition...has he?
As to reply Pi, i think this idea is very good, has many merits towards it, tho this may get me chastised here, but i know some of the rp locations blue side, but apart from PD where is there red side, alas i have only two villains as blue takes up majority of my time here..... -

Reading through Ravens posts I used to think all his ramblings on programming issues regarding sugeestions were doomsaying
[/ QUOTE ]
Being fair to myself and others... sometimes I'm probably just doomsaying, but mostly I'm trying to inject some element of realism when someone comes out with the immortal "I can't see why it would be hard to..." phrase.
In this case, while I have more than enough slots on most of my male characters, the female ones could probably do with a few more. More specifically, more earlier, so I can't say 'no, it's too much work' to this. I just think if they were going to do it, it would be a good idea to overhaul the costume selection system at the same time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aye reason i quoted you was it seems that that immortal line of "i cant see how hard it would be" is not in my opinion said in ignorance per se, but through lack of understanding, if something was so easy to be implemented without some major over haul i would imagine it would be applied much sooner than waiting for a new issue to add in the content or having a full patch.
I just think more people could do with standing back and looking at the criticism they get for their suggestions not as unfounded and harsh, but more a constructive method of helping them understand the game mechanics so they can rethink their suggestion to become more accesable for realistic implementation.
But as per your last comment regarding an overhaul of the costume system as a whole, i would applaud anything that would increase my options of expanding my characters repetoire, especially the ability for an extra veat slot.
id also love to see a mr ben alike toon following you round to give the option of random costumes delivered in a very stiff upper lip british accent "i cant see how hard that would be"
(above post edited for sarcasm) -
Still fairly new to this RP community here as i do find it hard to get involved with the regular rp groups as they are mostly well known to each other (by no means a complaint....i am maybe far too polite to rp myself into being a rude sonnova who barges into unwelcome convos
)
But more on topic here is my brief for my Bane Lord Omegon
Too many villains openly state their intent for global domination power etc etc, Omegon works for arachnos as a dutiful soldier.
Operating in the higher echelons of recluse's personal bodyguard - the Bane spiders, Omegon is respected (and feared by peers and lowlifes alike for his ruthless efficiancy to his work and uncompromisng attitude.
Viewed as cold and devoid of emotion by some, his quiet stoic behaviour belies his immense abilities as a master stategist, sometimes formulating elaborate plans to ensnare his targets (often involving his own troops as cannon fodder to hide his real mission objectives)
He operates on fear and misdirection to such an extent that rumours abound within arachnos' higher ranking members is that his actual goals are not entirely in sync with his lord and master, but whoever has publically voiced these suspicions in the past have mysteriously vanished soon after, leaving most to keep their misgivings to themselves lest the be a future target.
Nevertheless for the meantime Omegon serves his master dutifully, mostly leading covert ops into paragon to dispatch any "capes" that may become a nuisance to recluse in the future...in short Omegon is a name whispered in hushed tones in the isles and paragon alike for if he has your name, you best have powers akin to Synapse, for running is your only option. -
Reading through Ravens posts I used to think all his ramblings on programming issues regarding sugeestions were doomsaying, but in reality the more i read the more sense he makes (specifically since he knows more about the subject than me and that is a lot
) and considering he actually isnt saying "god your idea suxorz!" its all very informed and realistic.
To cut a long post short (im trying to waste time at work) if the problems he states to the amount of slots viewable or other issues could be toned down i would for one advocate this, but to reiterate, how much of a development issue would it be to set the costume viewer ingame to a scroll setting, if it was to encompass say a max of ten?

I put forward this post as evidence that GR is EVIL. He keeps doing this. Dropping hints and never letting us in on the secret.
It's EVIL I tell you!

Combination of drink, nagging mrs and lack of concentration led me to misread the page in question, god knows where i got the fact that the badge tracker was fixed, .....ahhh the ramblings of a man going slowly insane, thx anyway winter

Shunted by a red name....
Didnt even check for the deadline (doh) but as stated wasnt sure about whether or not it was the correct thread anyway, just intrigued as to what levels of interaction they will let us mess around with, but hey ho, patience is a virtue.....or so they say
Cheers for the bump tho GR -
I apologise if this has been covered on the titan forums or elsewhere but i have had the titan key/cit etc for a few weeks no and it still doesnt seem to be sending badge info back, dl'd the last update, which iirc did say it had corrected that issue or were my eyes decieving me

"petitions the devs to rename it HARIBO raid" -
[ QUOTE ]
I said it before and I'll say it again: my mains are named Blue Rabbit and Maroon Hare. No other modifiers needed or wanted. There are reasons for those names. If they were to be changed in any way, well, I'd be here until my subscription ran out.
You might win some, but you'd lose one.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have to agree with Mr Myxamatosis, although the OP's idea is(while radical in some extents)not entirely without its small merits, on the whole I would find it would bring more problems in the long run, the main one for me would be the names issue, as with blues post, all my toons names have a reason behind them and it would be highly irritating to have to change the whole spin of my toon to appease some others worries about flagging server poulations.
And to cover THAT note, from a personal view, my sg has dwindled in numbers for varying reasons ( some trying WAR, others on AoC but returning and the rest having varying rl issues) but in the long run most are returning for i13 and because as i have experienced 1st hand (left 2 years ago to try WoW....god knows why) this game has a lure that pulls you back time over again.
So to summise, its an idea born out of someones love for the game but is one that would probably draw more people away than would bring in (time differences/name issues/language barriers etc)
But dont let this dishearten you (OP) showing that you want something to extend the games lifespan shows there is people out there who still care for this game and that can only be a good thing. -

Last night i was playing villains some, and was on my brute Electri-Cat. Played for maybe 2 hours when my brain suddenly stopped functioning.
I was standing in the back line, trying to blast the enemies and i remember going "why the hell won't my attacks fire?", what i failed to remember was that i was playing a melee char and not a ranged one...
[/ QUOTE ]
I can soo sympathise there, there has been a couple of timeswhen I have been roped in by sg buds to do a late tf or mish arc, only to wake up to a screen full of tells, my character randomly running/flying into a corner and a nice keyboard/waffle grid on my face.
Or the time i bought a full LoGT set with the expensive salvage but ran out of space for the last of the cheap ones so (in my wisdom - couldve just stored some in WW for later disposal) went to the nearest store and (as the OP did also) spam clicked everythin off, i cant even remember what the salvage was I lost, as my eyes were filled with too many tears -
Ok still a little unsure if this is the best thread to post this question in (not really been a regular user of the forums- shame on me i know
)- regarding i13, i know more info will come as an when the release date nears.
My question is regarding the architect aspect, within this mission creator will we be able to use our own toons as a point of contact and will there be a possibility of having in game cut scenes as we see on tf's etc.
I only ask this at this juncture as i am currently writing the base for arcs for my main 5 toons, and would be good for a little snippit as to what the limitations will be involved -

Nothing gets trampled faster than when theres 8 masterminds and 48 pets steamrolling through any map.
If lag isn't a problem that is.
[/ QUOTE ]
We tried something like this in villain beta.
8 robotics masterminds, all having 6 pets each, 2 of the pets summing another 2 pets of their own (seeker drones). Was so many pets about we crashed the mission we were on
I do wonder if 8 thugs masterminds all using posse/gang war at once would blow up the server
[/ QUOTE ]
Im up for trying ^^
Oh and all thugs/dark! Get mr fluffy in there aswell!
So with 10 posse 6 pets and a DS Plus bosses...
= 144 person strong army...
Who wants to crash the server??
[/ QUOTE ]
144 strong thug army....
Why does the line "warriors...come out to playeeeyay..." spring to mind?
God help the all robot mm team in a sewer mish,I imagine a three hour delay while the tin cans line up to pass through "those" doorways.. devs should implement a "take a ticket and wait to be called" system -
One of our sg cohorts "passions flame" was raving about a fire rad troller team he was part of that flew him to 44 before he went onto a new toon, not sure if its the same one but he wont shut up about it
(bless 'im)
On a more connected note one of the best experiences I can recall team-wise would have to be an old STF our sg put together way back.
After a couple of failed attempts in pugs, my (1st 50) blaster was about to be set aside for a new toon but lo and behold our sg rallied together, spent a few days collectively picking warburg for all 3 nukes each. Then a raid on BB for shivvies and those who hadnt previously done it, a full sg katie hannon, so loaded with horrendous temps (dunno where you put 3 nukes, a giant jelly alien and a witch, big pockets i guess) we set off on the ol' states.
Now i have never seen 2 av's drop so [censored] rapidly,we breezed it through the early mishes and got to the last one, dropped scirrocco and widow before our sg leader shouted for the next target, and never have i seen them drop like that again........ahh memories
(team wise iirc had an en blapper/emp/ice blapper/granite/2 ma-regens/an earth and a rad troller repectively) -
While Roent has a very true point regarding the relation between number of 50's and actual team experience, i have to admit Alex's main point is unfortunately very true.
While not in itself a major problem within the game(and by no means restricted to heroes itself) It seems that somewhere along the way, the freedom to act upon your own volition (so long as you are respectful to your fellow team mates) has been dredged down into a "one says how goes the rest shut it" kind of attitude.
Thankfully however these kind of people are rare, and the majority of the community in this game are excellent people. My suggestion to you Alex is just keep at it and ignore the idiots theres still a fine community out there bud.
Ive been here 15 months and only once or twice truly lost my temper due to other peoples attitudes.
(you want to see bad gamesmanship play gta online for half an hour, you'll run back here screaming)

I agree with Dusty, I too have a similar band across the lower portion of my screen only when above water, now whereas I'm not very proficient at understanding the fineries of graphical capabilities (if this is related that is) I have tried a few different settings with the graphics and my screen resolution and it is still there, currently running all graphical settings at max, and nothing else is a problem, any info regarding how to fix this would be appreciated
P.s to the Colonel whereas on heat exhaustion I have noticed a similar distortion to the effects (on my therm troller), but again relating to Dusty's post only when over water, ill try and grab a screenie today
