I wouldnt say over worked Doc, more colour definition yes but as its a WiP i would say you are not at that stage yet, all in all its a v.nice start to what should be a great pic, certain elements stand out for me, the actual face shape is very well proportioned, the basic shading for the lighting angles looks good too, keep going mate and you say you did this using your mouse???...damn you must have the patience of a saint
keep us updated doc i like what i see so far

Right, well this is going to be a "what I like" comment, because I think a lot of this kind of thing is personal opinion and preference and such. So, basically, make of this what you will.
Under 'normal' circumstances, I would say I prefer your test pieces. I'm a fan of fairly detailed artwork, I like relatively conservatively drawn comics.
However, I also like the artwork to fit into the style of the comic and the slightly darker, kind of 'urban' style you did the strip in just works. I don't necessarily think you need to fiddle with it.

Particularly the shaded version looks good to me.

Ive spent ten minutes flicking between the two and I like them both equally. I like the definition the colouring adds to the jacket, the t-shirt and the hair. Having said that I also like the uncoloured version.
The only bit I dont like is the fact that his eyes are closed. It doesnt seem that natural.
this is kind of CoX related....
i've been doing this comic strip here in a rather loose style, but have been playing with a slightly different style on a character sketch of the main protagonist.
it's done straight with the mouse, then brought into photoshop this time for the colour. my opinion is that it's too worked, but i'd welcome other views. i'm in no way precious about my drawings, so feel free to fire away
