After reading your comments on my work I feel its only fair I respond in kind Abz, I will be honest and say I originally wanted to speed read it as I am still at work and would have perused it more thoroughly when I got home....however I found myself scrolling back and having to re read sections I had given only a cursory glance... making me stop reading altogether, now before you frown I mean this as a total compliment, the whole thing tho narrative heavy is exactly the kind of writing I like (i.e I prefer dan abnett over graham mcniell in the 40k novels due to the formers concise attention to details, no matter their importance) you really make it hard to stop reading, hence why I had to stop before I got moaned at for slacking
Keep up the good work and ill be sure to give a more concise reply when ive read it fully -
Again thanks Abz, ill check that out when i get home, currently supposed to be "working" though i do use the term very loosly

I would suggest not limiting where you post solely to these boards. Its worth considering some of the other more generic mmo fanfiction orientated websites that exist to expand your scope of feedback.
[/ QUOTE ]
first of all thanks for the comments, but regarding these mmo fanfiction sites, as im not too familiar where would you suggest is a good place to start? -
Much appreciated L, i dont mind criticism as it only helps to improve on something, regarding the pauses and layout i totally agree, upon re reading it seems a little stop/start, i know my strength lies on creativity, my composition is lacking somewhat at times but as stated it was a quick draft composed at work from an earlier idea
With regards the lack of dialogue i wanted a narrative based upon his own experience, and a soldier with a special ops background working for a mercenary outfit i wanted to display a formal outlook with only Dmitri's thoughts as an emotional anchor.
However i do agree it may suffer from a lack of interpersonal interaction, still working on the full length story atm, RL issues intervening.
I will endeavour to post the next section up a.s.a.p with a look on editing the thing as a whole once im done.
Again thanks for the comments L they were concise and helpful. -
To add my two cents as it were ill put my list as I see it at the moment
(This kind of topic is fluid as there are always people each week who catch my eye, but here is who I will say has made an impression in my 16 months here)
1-Mothers Love;
Always knocking around atlas/RV/union channels offering advice, assistance, and the occasional smutty wit (you know you do mumsie)
2-FFM;
Now I can safely say I have never come across FFM as I am merely a casual (even rarer than that) RP'er in fact I tend to hang around GG only when cooling down from a day of grinding....but FFM is well known throughout and more so on the forums, many of his posts are usually quite concise and non-ranty..
3-Dustified;
Max Carnage boss and regular to atlas, I have teamed a few times with dusty and to me he is a good player to stand behind..ahem..team with
4-Tsumiju Zero;
Many a mothership raid with this katana weilding maniac has gone smoothly, he has a somewhat disturbing fervor when it comes to spanking rikti, nevertheless a good team leader to run raids in the old hami-heal-bubble en masse maneauver.
5-Globey/Rooks etc;
Some of those guys were in the Art of War before I joined and theres a lot of good things I hear about them, I did many months back - attempt to take on globey in RV with my new shiney 50 scrapper (was a little green in pvp at the time) I believe I lasted 0.001 of a second...quite good I think...as for Rooks I believe theres no one else who has more healing powers than jesus, but then again old J.C probably wasnt slotted with I.O's as much
6-Clipse;
Goes without saying, good friends with this idiot..ahem I mean player, many a close cossie contest with either me or him edging each other out, though I have to say imho he does have a distinct style which many have copied, though in my eyes it is a compliment of sorts, if you are reading this Adz, I bow to you...my number one fan
7-Salacious;
Number one badge primo and channel silencer extraordinaire...a good player with a wealth of badge related knowledge always willing to help others.
8-Damz;
Always knocking around atlas holding some cossie contest or another rarely a day goes when I dont see him bouncing around on his scrapper up to some mischief or other
9-Eros/Fulcrum(fulcy);
This one is a personal choice ....For those of you who dont these two old farts - ahem "experienced players" I have had the pleasure of being in their company for over a year now in my tenure at AoW and amongst other regular sg members i have to say here and now you wont find a more accomodating and generous set of blokes, always willing to lay down their own toons advancement to help others so much I feel selfish just for leveling a toon at times, though to be fair I get to laugh regularly at Eros' many faceplants, so many now it has become a mini legend amongst the sg....heres to you you old fogeys, ill buy you a new stairlift when the base salvage becomes cheaper
There are many other notable mentions, regular players, rp'ers etc such as Kitsu/Ravenswing/Napalm Bomb/Magma Man etc etc but ill be here all day otherwise -

Got all the non-zombie badges on 2 alts today. We also did 3 Eochai's in a row. 1 spawned right after another in talos, about 400yrds away.
4 defenders (3 rads) and a scrapper took him down...
[/ QUOTE ]
Gotta say that was fun, spent all morning and most of the mid afternoon looking for Jack spawns, as rare as the ghosts in ToT but at least it states on wiki that jack has a ten percent chance
But taking down Eochai being the only main damage dealer was mightily fun, especially when hes debuffed to buggery with a bunch of rads
And when we finally found jack seemed half of union blue side turned up to spank him, heres hoping envoy posts the screenies he took, he mustve lasted a whole 20 seconds if that
Now just waiting on the invasion, completely given up on the buster badge for now -
ill have to get back to you in a weeks time Mumsie, but - time permitting i can offer the services of Mortarion to marshal the event, pm me ingame on union (@stryke) or here on the forums regarding details

I think the economy is going to be more of a worry on all games. People may not give up on this game because they have worked hardest on it. In going to a new game we would lower the population of this one. Let's say we all did it and perhaps found the new game didn't measure up. We all then try to come back, only to find that this game is closed due to too low a population. I think that the best plan would be for NCNC to concentrate on the people they have, give us more of what we want sooner and that is exactly looking to be the way of things.
How things will turn out could come down to many things. I plan to play CO when it comes out and play this one. Spending money is fighting the depression and seeing as I know I would spend more money in 1 night down the pub than a whole months worth of gaming. Such is my plan.
If we can as players, be nice and treat each other with respect and by that apart from the obvious I also mean I try to value your concepts as well as you value mine and work together then there is less reason to leave. At the start of any new game you will get powergamers who want, expect and need efficiency hiring and firing, this game is nicer as its weathered and powergamers have moved on to other games (to be the best at) so we should build on it and just have fun.
It's not good for a publisher to cut too low on games on offer and I think there is possibly interest in seeing as much as 6 more years of life in this one. Given that it's flexible and polished, and the Dev team have been expanding, ok NCSoft have been contracting and a game has been canned, the fight is on to keep things going.

One of the most concise and thoughtful responses so far, an epitome of why i still play this game, I for one always try new things but return here regardless (even with my console begging me to play fable 2 on launch)
I still see it as this, ok ill play fable2 and maybe a few other new games, and I know ill enjoy them.. but just because i do so, does it mean my fealty to CoX is gone?..no
Now ok there are grumbles abound on dwindling population issues and other DooM related ramblings, however, I still manage to find good teams and once the novelty of new games wear off, the true lovers of this game return when they realise the options this game gives you..
No its not perfect, yes theres much shinier things out there.
However.....I defy you to find another game where a you can team a 9ft tall villain dressed in a pink teddy outfit and team him with a 2 ft tall ginger dwarf who can morph into a wall of rock and both go bouncing around an alien mothership with 30+ other loonies spanking aliens for some shiny shoulderpads and a hat...........when i put it like that ....No one will deny this game has its moments -
For anyone who knows fulcy you know that he has now passed the point of actual years counted and is now in the realm of carbon dating, belated happy b/day bud, Eros and i did get you a cake but the sheer amount of candles started an inferno in steel canyon en route to atlas, but we blamed it on a bunch of hellions nearby....suckers
-
It was a great event and i thank all who turned up, many was a bickering between us as to who was best, some really great cossies, as for the timing mix up i can only apologise to those who were misled, but all in all a good event next one i hope to get an even bigger prize fund and maybe try and crash atlas totally
-
Have been advertising on BC in atlas lately and the response seems good, but Hairy mate although we are running this the big thanks has to go to Ghostraptor, not for giving the codes.....but for not blocking me after multiple repeated pm's begging for them as prizes, they all fold eventually
"contemplates quittin the sg just to enter for the code" -
This is an interesting thread, nice to see the difference in players reasonings for naming, seems to be a 50/50 split between humour for humour's sake and actual meaning..i like it
So here goes for a few of mine..
Lord Mortarion My first 50 restarted the game on vills side and wanted a name to encapsulate the mood of a dark corr, and since im a bit of a 40k nerd (never played the games, just like the books)..The name mortarion stuck in my head
Stryke My first 50 hero, was originally going to call him orbital strike (for sniping would be my forte), but i wanted a single "heroic" type name, and the "y" kind of set it apart a little kind akin to the famous marvel villain/cable clone "stryfe"
Star-forge My new fire blaster, the name kind of stuck in my head from the start, was thinking along the lines of a technological/sci fi esque toon, ironically - yes i am a fan of the kotor series and no - i didnt realise untill i made the toon
Warscythe This toon is made to be a herald for the infamous biblical apocalypse, and is meant to be the right hand man for the horseman "war" himself...hence the name, i dabbled with warsword or warblade but both sounded naff compared to the final choice....ok i made him a hero (scrapper) but hey, even biblical enteties set on global annihilation can have a change of heart cant they ?
Lord Omegon When making my concept for my bane i couldnt help but refer to the 40k universe again and the background of the alpha legion, shrouded in mystery and headed by twin primarchs (alpharius and omegon- according to dan abnetts "legion" heresy book) they operate via guile and misdirection but can cover with their alarming strength and agility, this seemed to be a perfect match to my bane spider's sets, and thus omegon was born a bane working for both arachnos and his own personal gains
I have tonnes more and all really quite nerdy in their aspects, i wish i could make a humerous toon but can never bring myself to do it, god knows why...though i did -while drunk- make a brute once by the name of Bad Boy Bunny ..a 9ft tall behemoth with balding hair and in a playboy bunny style leotard, but deleted him after a while (it disturbed even me too much, and i made it)

just gonna bump this for people, its still on for saturday

Guys, just a little heads-up...
Art of War are running a cozzie competition on Union (Saturday the 4th at 7pm GMT under the Atlas Globe - see the Union boards for more info) and Ghost Raptor has very generously donated 3 PPD codes for the 3 finalists.
Feel free to come on down and join in
[/ QUOTE ]
moved to the 11th I believe
[/ QUOTE ]
Aye dusty moved it to then due to timing issues, spoke to GR and the codes will be given via global names or forum pm's so whoever are the winners will have to provide us their forum handles or if not available global chat handles so GR can contact them directly....
hope the turnout is good, took a full day of hassling Gr to get these for you guys -
Just realised (doh) for those of you unsure as to what the ppd hardsuit code will gove you here is a hint
http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/I...D-Hardsuit.jpg -
Just going to add on here, if anyone is a moderator of any union channels, if you want to post an advert on your MoD just pm me here or ingame and i can give you more details, hopefully going to recieve a large gathering for this more so for the inclusion of the PPD code, again any questions dont hesitate to ask.
-
Ok for all you guys here I thought id post this (cant post a link to the thread as this pc at work is bobbins and hates me
)
But in a sweet twist of fate (no thanks to Ghostraptor himself) I have managed to procure no less than 3 codes to hand out, for details please see the union heroes thread, Art of war costume comp, hope to see you there guys -
(ignore the previous post as there is more to add for the comp and it has now been pushed back for reasons you will see)
Ok guys its coming up to halloween, summer is over and with the onset of issue 13, we at the Art of War decided to run our Bi Annual costume comp, we hope to make it as big an event as the last one early in the year.
Will be hosting it on Saturday the 11th at 7pm GMT under the Atlas Globe with a raft of prizes (along with a generous donation from Ghostraptor who I must thank whole heartedly for his help)
We have decided to run with the "most heroic" theme this time, so bring your best "classic comic book" inspired toon...so dig out your dusty old comics and think of a most original look from the old age of spandex to turn up in(minimum lvl ten to enter)
We will run the main event in atlas publically, and whittle the finalists down to ten, then move to our sg base to hand out the prizes.
3rd prize is 10 mil
2nd prize is 30 mil
1st prize is 50 mil
All three finalists will also recieve an exclusive PPD hardsuit costume code generously donated by ghostraptor - yes this is real!!
The remaining seven runners up will recieve a 2 mil prize each and there is also a 15 day time card for the most "humerous cossie"
(i must stress that we are completely impartial we will judge as a group as to what we feel is a striking, original look, no outside influences will be considered, we want this to be an open fun event, plus as a note from GR i must add under no circumstances will any "copyrighted" looks be included)
Plus will be running a Synapse TF at 8pm straight after.
Any questions pm me or ingame send to me @stryke or @eros
we are mostly on in the evenings from 6pm onwards
Hope to see you all decked out in your finest -
Always got room for one more global channel
My global name is @stryke as i stated im on most evenings from 6pm onwards so pm me anytime, always mooching around, grinding with the sg or poppin on the odd tf so just gimme a bell -
Cheers mate ill be there monday, gonna be on my ice scrapper most of the week so could be that i may not need an sk, depending on how much grinding i get done between now and monday
-
Reading through this thread i became dismayed as i had not seen it before, i have two ice based toons collecting dust atm lvl 33 ice/dev blaster and a 34 ice/storm troller, would love to get back to using them and this team up seems the perfect opportunity, only wanted to check if it still runs, and if so would there be a place for lil' old me?

50 plus views, and no replies?...

happens all the time - the creative forum seems dead to any feedback at the moment, don't take it personally
i'm enjoying the start to your story, and look forward to it continuing
[/ QUOTE ]
cheers for the comments, but tbh i wasnt actually fishing for compliments with the "no replies" line was more along the lines of expecting some criticism, without which one finds out any directions one needs to take to get the work to a better standard ..(one?...why am i talking in queenspeak?)
And to reply to raven, your comments are ones i respect bud, as you say it as you see, no personal digs just plain honesty, so yeah ill be posting further, the main reason i started it was because while writing my bio ingame a lot of the details i wanted to include had to be omitted due to the restrictions in word volume.
Ill try and get the next section up tonight.
