Looking back I'm wondering if it's an OpenGL issue as those other games use DirectX tech. It's been mentioned before and until someone threw out game X, Y, Z... I hadn't thought about it.

While I'm normally hovering between 20-30 FPS, I've noticed (especially during beta when people were building the new TF groups) extreme drops in FPS. Last nite was the first time I've been in First Ward on live and there were times (with a small, mixed team) that I dropped all the way to like 2-5. Noting that I'm playing on the basic compatibility settings so it's not like I've got something turned too high. Older content seems to be fine, but any of the newer/revised content seems to bog things down.

Quote:I didn't mean to infer that I was promoting single-player bases explicitly, but such limitations do affect groups as well. I mean, what happens if a group decide that they need to go preem for a while (IE: bills>game)...Nope. One can have a decently functional base without ever buying an item that incurs rent.
Only people that don't want to subscribe but want personal storage bases have a problem getting locked out after 6 weeks.
And the devs have made their position quite clear to us even tho we don't like it, that solo SG's/bases go against the intended design created by the devs and they will not do anything to make it easier to create and operate them. They were designed to be used by groups of players.
NM, OP was talking about solo base and we're O/T. -

Great, better add strawberry topping to this dessert now...*grumbles about imagery*
So yeah, we either need some info as described in the mentioned link or Hyperstrike's gonna be forced to make us all breakfast to keep us civil. Once that's posted, then we can better attempt to pool our brains together without the zombies noticing too quickly. -
It's nothing about faith and compatability, it's about that oh not so rare chance of buying that part made on somebody's last day or that careless postal worker randomly tossing your box around and not noticing the issue until well After your return period. :-/

Quote:approves this!My personal choice would be an ANTEC or Thermaltake model - both have excellent reputation for quality PSUs. Work out what the power requirements are for the components you have or are likely to upgrade to then add about 30% more to ensure you are running the PSU where it is more efficient.

Quote:One salvage rack? Between the /vault command and a maxed out slotted 50, you have nearly the capacity on a single toon that an entire base has and STILL don't have a drop in the bucket of enough storage needed to maintain more than one toon without constantly having to shuffle/sell/etc salvage. It's gotten to the point that I only keep salvage on my SG leader toon(s) and sell at "whatever location I feel like at the time" because of the rediculous lack of storage. Except for the porters and rez stations (and looking pretty), they've just about cut the main reason for multi-person bases. The hoarding argument doesn't hold even a drop of sense (never did).
They have since implemented other ways to acquire and hold salvage. Don't like the prices at the market? go to the AE. Heck, an individual toon can now carry more salvage than one salvage rack. But even so, a single toon may not necessarily be able to carry the salvage needed for various crafting purposes.
The point of keeping salvage at the base is to share the salvage amongst several toons/players. This is supposed to be an advantage, a perk, for joining a Supergroup. Sure, we could technically share salvage through global e-mails now, but, besides being very limited, it's a pain in the patootie and becomes very un-fun for the designated mule (especially for a group). The whole reasoning for having larger storage capacity becomes one of convenience and functionality for bases and supergroups.
.
I remember when we had all that storage and this big thing of personal storage vaults was coming. Everybody cheered because some people wanted the ability to control some of the storage (IE: I give new SG members a set of the costume slot salvage should they inquire about how to go about getting it during off season). Then I come back (i19-ish) and my storage racks read something like 2000/30 and thought it was a bug. -
Quote:Because you're probably hogging the entire server's bandwidth. :-pWhile installing on a new computer yesterday, I experienced this for the first time. On a fast machine with Fiber Optic broadband, it took over 3 hours to load all four stages. Like was said previously, start it going and go do something else for a long while. I know this is a pain when you are so ready to play but what can you do?

Quote:Even if it is a lie, if you show them the cake, then they will come to the party. If you tell them it's a lie, then you don't have a date for the party. ;-)I just want there to be more incentive for the f2p player to subscribe.
Withhold badges or something more significant. It's trite, but I'm tier 9 and the only reason I subscribe is the incarnate goodies. But, most f2pers don't miss what they don't know. They've very little incentive to buy the cow with all the free milk being given away. -
Quote:This is how I understood it. Simply put, since you're making 2x XP and debt gets burnt first, then you're burning debt 2x faster. Since they've seriously reduced debt intake numbers anyway (since many of us started playing), then it's almost like you never got debt in the first place.actually Double XP itself will cancel out any debt incurred - because Double XP acts like a permanent half-bar of patrol XP for the duration of the weekend, debt will simply be absorbed into that bar and forgotten
So basically everybody's saying don't bother using either power until after 2x XP's over and you've already used up that offline Patrol XP. -
Quote:So...create a base, but don't put things like Porters, Rez Stations, Invention Tables, or Storage in it?Or avoid the rent problem entirely by not using the items that incur rent in the base.
And then there's the whole base lockdown after 6wks thing right?! -
Silly Q...did you restart the game and try again? Sorry, my brain's in Foamy mode...
-
Try this:
Disable your virtual memory (and Hybernation file if on a laptop), reboot into safe mode, do a full system defrag, re-enable the file(s) [set the VM to 1.5xphysical or 6Gb in this case, it's the number windows suggests], and reboot. Run the game's file checker and see how it acts.
If that doesn't do it, give more info using the CoH Helper thing and the Hijack This tool..."I" don't have links, but there's an abundance of like threads. -
I forgot if this has been covered, but have you done stuff like turning it upsidedown, taken canned air to it, or that gooie KB cleaning stuff?

Quote:Unless you have access to the Beta/Test server (I forget what freebs get), this can be a very frustrating thing if you're just looking to piecemeal your costumes. Not always. The paragon points purchasable T9 costumes, you cant see in costume editor. Phoenix tail? Had to google for it. Plus, it is nice to see the whole set and not waste time, on gloves, ok, what kind of helmets, ohhh, what about a belt ...
That is what more I want.
To the other posters, thank you on the clarification on xp boosters and windfall, it is greatly appreciated! -
This is how I understood things in Beta as that's pretty much what it said in the market. The only confusion I had was on the two bonus XP powers. One basically gives you 5 bars of patrol XP while the other continually gives +25% xp(?). I forget the length of time that the latter actual stays in effect, but both have a 2hr cooldown time I believe.
In fact, I ran (what was it, ten sets of) both of the XP boosters on my lvl-pact'd toon and it was as if I was lvl'ing normally. Sure made the pact more tollerable (lvl'ng my 2nd acct using primary). -
Quote:So...absolutely positively NO comparison as to how a certain game company produces issues to its newly F2P game...gotcha. ;-)Honestly, even though it represents a lot of work done by Mids himself, and everyone else who has worked on it since, PS would probably be better off developing a planner from scratch than to acquire or support Mids officially.
Mids was originally created before in-depth power and mechanics information was known. So there are a lot of fundamental design decisions that resulted in things working differently from how the actual game works. And there are a lot of manually created workarounds for those. As they start using more and more complex mechanics in the game, that divergence of design becomes more and more of an issue, and it becomes increasingly hard to accurately model them within the existing framework. Diellan is having to basically write a whole new way of looking at enhancements to get PPM and the ATOs to work, and the normal/catalyzed sets require a new way of defining enhancement sets.
That's a big part of the reason why modern updates take longer, because of things like Beast Mastery and Assassin's Strike, or even the Scrapper ATO, which requires tweaking almost every scrapper power by hand...
If Paragon was going to do a planner they'd be wise to base it on the game engine itself to avoid having to deal with things like that.
EDIT: Forgot the /sarcasm comment block. -
Safest thing to do is just open the launcher, tell it to install the game, and let it run to completion. I have more details in the guides below, but while the whole quick-play tier scheme is a good idea on paper it seems to cause more headaches for those without a super speedy internet connection.
My guess is because you're actually playing through the (insanely short) intro zone so quickly that the game hasn't had a chance to complete the third/fourth download segments. Since the segment hasn't completed and the game's trying to use it, then I'm sure this is causing some sort of brain fart in the installer to the point that it just gives up and quits. -
Death? In this game? Neeeever happens...no wait, I thought you meant Debt. Didn't they get rid of that like 10 issues ago? /sarcasm

I don't have the game loaded, but I'm pretty sure that you can go into Options:Keyboard and change the keys there. Otherwise, you can go into the "keybinds.txt" file and manually assign things. Make sure you use the same sort of capitalization, spacing, etc when editing the file. Then you'd need to simply "load default binds" from the options menu.

All I gotta say is "HH Greg sells computers?"
That store is like what the classic "appliance" stores were in the 80's. May as well goto a car lot if you want the shopping experience for free.
NeWay...
While it may cause some trouble (might have to call up MSFT's activation hotline after the change), you could simply replace the board with one that will fit your current hardware making express shipping (if any shipping is involved) more tollerable. Basically you'd reassemble the rig and immediately boot into safe mode (F8). At this point you would then want to install the motherboard specific drivers from their CD and reboot normally.
This works most the time, but since you've changed a major component it will trigger windows to think it's been migrated to a totally different PC and consider itself unactivated (requiring a 5 minute phone call to the automated MSFT activation line). I actually had to do the same thing with my backup laptop because the newer board had fried, but I had an older model/same series "parts" laptop in the closet.
Again, this is a minimalistic, simple replacement method with room to grow so keep that in mind when reading my post. Sure I could get into the window shopping mode like everybody else, but I did a similar hot-swap sort of build for my dad last year and it was rather quick & painless.
The Template: Your Current Board
At glance, it looks like your current board was an intel based Socket LGA 775, NB: Intel G31 Express Chipset, SB: Intel ICH7, Built-in VGA. Hmm, I see the RED FLAG going up as this is a Micro-ATX board which means your case could also be smaller (food for thought). *swats ctrl+B & ctrl-I fingers*
Here's a couple suggestions that you could try that should work for this simple-swap method.
ASRock: G31M-GS R2.0 EDIT: NM, it's only sold in the UK and back ordered
But, here's it's slightly lesser (4Gb RAM limit and 10/100 NIC) U.S. cousin:
G31M-S R2.0 Friday Shipping~$21, Saturday Shipping~$12 (a few dollars less than NewEgg). I've never dealt with buying PC core hardware through Amazon, but the last build I did was using an ASRock board and haven't had an issue in the year it's been up (for most of the last year or so).
EDIT: Well crap, I didn't see any Gigabyte or ASUS boards listed that stayed within the limits AND were still for sale. There are two LGA 775's listed on the MicroCenter site that someone mentioned above, but then you'd have to buy new DDR3 memory as well (making the upgrade already more than the $7 difference).
