Hey people.
This thread has inspired me to write a brief guide to Union RP that I had been saving for the actual server list merge. However, this inspired me to finish it early:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...91#post3543291
As I've said in the guide, it's not perfect, nor complete (I can't know everything) but I hope it helps give you some flavour for what we get up to on Union. -
Quote:Structure? Universe? Why... that sounds suspiciously good.Welcome...
Yes.. our community is smaller. But as stated already it has more structure. We are trying as hard as we can do actually make it a universe with the appropriate crossovers where we can.
Get yourself enlisted in the 'Union Roleplayers' Channel...
'Union Roleplayers'? Will do, once we can. -
Quote:The obvious answer will be Virtue for many of us. I do believe I will visit, but I do not think i will transfer any chars over. (Got too few as it is)Quote:I will stay on Union and welcome the ones who dares to invade UNION!
"Welcome, welcome... Enter freely and unafraid!"
The cat girls will probably tag along as well, just so you're aware. -

About Us:
The Reciprocators were founded in April 2006 after the long-time defender of Kings Row, Black Starbeam, forged a partnership with the fledgling heroine known as Static Bolter. Their hope was that with a greater force they could address issues beyond the abilities of what a solitary, unorganized hero could handle.
A supergroup of dedicated roleplayers with consistent leadership, The Reciprocators are now seeking like-minded heroes and the reformed alike to join their ranks in the never-ending fight against those that would threaten Paragon City. -

Hello Virtue.
I have here a list of questions asking about background and personality traits. Though it would surely be interesting for everyone to fill them out, that's not the point of this thread. Instead, I'm looking for more questions to add to it. So, what other details would be good to know?
So far:
Where was your character born? What year?
Do they have any siblings? If so, how many, and older or younger?
Any pets?
How is their relationship with their family?
Does the character have any tics?
What style of clothing do they they wear?
Do they have any birthmarks, tattoos or scars? If so, how did they get them?
Do they have a favorite snack or drink?
Are there any musicians they like in particular?
How do they behave when they're angry? Do they cry, scream, become cold, etc?
Are they afraid of anything in particular? If so, why?
What do they find funniest?
Do they have any pet peeves? If so, what are they?
Are they annoyed easily?
Are there any qualities in others that they find particularly endearing?
What bad habits do they have?
What possessions do they hold dearest?
Who do they consider their best friends? If they don't have any, why?
Do they have a 'spot'?
How do they speak? Do they have any verbal tics?
Are they more introverted or extroverted?
Are they honest with others?
Are they honest with themselves?
Do they treat people with or without powers any differently?
What do they think of the Police?
How do they approach something they're totally unfamiliar with?
What is their general attitude towards money and material things? -
Quote:Oh, how did I not notice this post specifying your starting price earlier? Alright then.So yeah that all sounds great, the post above me makes sense cause ive attempted it and given up cause its a waste of time and money..... Bidding is open at 2 billion... thats 2,000,000,000....

I have strengths, but I'll leave those up to my SG mates to point out, as my view is undoubtedly skewed.
For weaknesses, there are a few that bug me regularly. The first of these is vocabulary. It's strong enough, yet I often find myself falling back on the same worn phrases when conveying something. When I'm really paying attention I do my best to avoid reusing those as much as possible. This ties into the second.
I can be inattentive. Often I'm trying to multi-task while RPing, and I will find myself using those worn phrases when I glance back at the game and rush to catch up with what's happened. On teams, I will often just stay quiet altogether, as I become more focused on combat than on what people are saying, even if they're RPing at a normal pace. Luckily, on my main character I can just write this off as his voice being preoccupied with screaming at people.
Last of the weaknesses that bug me most is my lack of confidence with combat. This extends to both text fighting and writing combat scenes in forum RP. In-game, I typically try to avoid text fighting altogether. If possible, I actually prefer regular PvP, simply because at least that way I can be certain of my ability, and know that no one will try to pull anything crazy. Of course, since I avoid it, this hasn't been a real issue. It's mainly just in forum RP that this lack of confidence prevents me from trying. -

Quote:Hrm. I'll take it out for now. If it pops up again, let me know.Actually I think "wolverine" was supposed be a joke, because when I saw it it was supposed to be a battle cry when they attacked, like the resistance group did in the movie Red Dawn.
Quote:I think puckerface is the same thing as calling someone "kiss a**"
Just now saw this one.. I'll leave that up for someone else to decide. It doesn't really seem necessary. -
I've been doing the same in certain situations, honestly. Of course, I always prefer having something to use as inspiration, if needed.

Quote:Yeah, I noticed that too. I haven't found a very good point of reference yet, though. On the Praetorian lore subject, though not quite language-related, anyone know anything about the Praetorian calendar or where I can look in-game for more information on it? I noticed a plaque in the Magisterium today that referenced a ceremony taking place on such-and-such day in "AU35", I figured that was "after U-something" (Unification?) but going by his Going Rogue site profile Cole's only been Emperor for 25 years so not sure what event defined the start of the Praetorian calendar.
-
Not a serious question.. but, this:
My Albert, you're looking awfully.. feminine.. and clone-like. Did you come with the patch?
Dialogue: "Hello, *Name*. I've heard of the work you've done, keep it up. You and I have nothing to work on together...at the moment.

Updated. Also, I'm looking for a translation on these two:
'Dropbears' seems to be the Ghouls, particularly the ones that tend to fall next to you when you're nearby. I'm tempted to say 'slipperstyle' is 'messy'. Which would make 'confusinated'.. killed? Eaten?
Lesson 20.. now that I'm reading it, just seems to confirm the definitions we already have on 'chomper' and 'scamper'. -
Adding:
Chompette - Female combatant
Chortle-Snortling - Laughing
Cole-Aid - Enriche
Drinking the Cole-Aid - Blindly following Cole
'Get it Polar Bear-Style Without the Syrup'- To be given a beating
Glimpse - Watch
Glitterbug - High profile person
Power Pellet - Powers Division officer
Rattleslap - Hurt
Ringy-Dingys - Alarms
Scamp - Get out/Leave; or Kill/Die, depending on context
Scrimslam this Chompcham - Beat this guy/girl
'Shine this Shamrock' - Beat someone up/Beat this person
Smashy-Smash - Security/Backup
Static - Resistance communications network
'Swiss this Cheese' - Open fire/Put holes in it
'That Reverberates Like..' - That sounds like..
The Deep, Dark, Dim - The Underground
'This Box Just Lost its Chill' - Situation is heating up
'This is All Sideways' - This is all wrong/messed up
Wolverine - Powers Division officer
Looking for Verification/Context:
Flipper - Face
'Hope for Sunshine' - Want to live
'Make Like a Shark' - Swim/Flee or Hunt/Chomp?
Mindwash - Someone brainwashed by the state
Pucker Face - Ugly
Tattle - Comm broadcast
Two-Tone - Powers Division officer (?) -

Going to update it in a bit, just need to get everything together.
Quote:Cole-Aid works for both, depending on context. Going to add "Don't Drink the Cole-Aid" as 'Blindly following Cole', along with "Cole-Aid" as 'Enriche'.The way I see that, drinking Enriche is, to the mind of the person making the "Cole-aid" comment, endemic of generally indulging in traits that are assigned to "sheeple."
A person may not necessarily have to drink Enriche; if he's a productive and loyal member of Praetoria, he's still one of the "sheeple," and can be told not to drink the Cole-aid... but anyone who does drink Enriche definitely qualifies for the comment, whether they're otherwise seen as one of the "sheeple" or not, in which case the comment becomes a genuine piece of advice, rather than just an exhortation to open your eyes to the truth.
Quote:May be a bit obvious, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyways.
Chortle-snortling - Laughing
Quote:"the deep, dark, dim" - The Underground
"this box just lost its chill" - Situation heating up; said when a Vet aggroed on me.
glimpse - look at/keep eyes peeled for
Quote:two-tone-Powers Divisioner?
tattle - radio broadcast or call for help/to reveal location ("He could have gotten a tattle off at this depth")
"Five-alive, whipper!" when aggroed, I've got no clue other than maybe "Look alive, noob!" If whipper's short for whippersnapper, maybe slang for a low-ranking Resistance member?
Thinking of adding "tattle" as 'comm broadcast'. Any recommendations?
Sounds that way. I'm tempted to add it as 'Ugly'. -
Going to update it in a bit, after I finish getting everything together.
Do you remember the context on these two?
Quote:Get it Polar Bear-Style without the Syrup - To be given a beating
I love the last one.
Quote:Puckerface seems to be a term for Powers Division I think, but I'm not definite.
Quote:Swiss This Cheese - Put holes in it/open fire.
Smashy-smash - Security/back up.
Power Pellet - Powers Division Member.
Shine this Shamrock - Beat someone up/kill them.
Cole-Aid - Enriche.
Chompette - Female enemy.
That reverberates like... - That Sounds Like
This is all sideways - This is all wrong/messed up (?)
Ringy-dingys - Security Alarm
Quote:Mindwash - Someone brainwashed by the state
Make like a shark - Either swim/flee, or maybe hunt/chomp (?)
Do you remember the context for "Make like a shark"? -
Don't know that one yet. Do you know what the context was?
Quote:Badger also for policeman (in addition to blueberry), from the arc I ran last night.
"Raspberries" for Destroyers added as well. -
Added.
Quote:I can't remember the exact phrasing, but the connotation I got from the word "thinkbox" was computer. I think it was the resistance mission where you break in to steal the test subject list from the Fixadrine chain.
"Badger" added for Policeman as well.
Anyone know what 'glitterbug' is?
