I don't think Hammond was too out of place and i think he served as a decent villain for Hal to break his teeth on before getting into the big throw down with the smoke monster from Lost... er Parrallax. True they didn't spend much time on the connection between Hal and Hammond, but i dont think they really needed to. I think it was enough to see that Hector was going to be the bad guy and why, and that Hal really didn't give a damn about him.

Hammond gave the audience a human evil to despise over the big cosmic evil. Could've been done better, true, but i dont see it as that bad.
  3. And with the passing of Ultimate Peter Parker ends my desire to continue really paying for any Spider-Man featured product from Marvel. The damage done by OMD is complete. After that storyline, Quesada told fans "hey, you want to read about a married MJ and Peter? read Spider-Girl!" (cancelled less than 3 months later) so that left me with a virtually untainted Ultimate version of the web slinger. (Death of Spider-Man! hey it's not 616, but he's been around for 11 years, so killing him actually has a real impact without farking the sales!)

Not blaming Bendis, for all my complaints on his style, his work on Ultimate Spidey has continually been some of his best work and im sad to see it end. After ultimatum, USM was the only title worth picking up, and now i don't even want to bother with the new SM, and i sure as hell dont want to shell out money for the wretched 616 version that's swinging around.

    Frak you Marvel.
  4. Ill catch the first few episodes, but the animation style leaves me cold. CGI is one thing, but this just looks unfinished and empty.
  5. About the only thing in there that surprises me is that theyre admitting the target market is the 18 - 34 crowd. Not that hasn't been the market anyway for the last few years, but at least theyre admitting they're not just shooting for the teen age crowd.

When SR came out and people were quoting the RT number, I looked at the reviews and found the RT icon erroneously applied. I think a fairer assessment would significantly downgrade the RT rating of such movies.
I usually find Metacritic is a bit better when it comes to rating flicks. But, in regards to GL, i heard the only critic i needed to before i saw the movie. Another GL fanboy, he said it was good. Generally enough for me, but then i would've seen it if it was crap anyway.

Translation for those who don't speak Joephisto, "Grant Morrison so angered the Quesada, that he spent the next five years trying to erase everything he'd done from the Marvel Universe."
  8. *checks article* well, they nail MOST of the bad ones, yet still somehow miss mentioning Elektra or Catwoman. *rechecks* oh look, theyre slagging on GL. How... cute.
  9. Thunderbolts, New Warriors, and the Guardians of the Galaxy?
  10. A new Spidey title? Obviously this is a job for Mark Bagley!
  11. Perhaps, but i think the 'training day' scenario will work best in the second film. (and i hope there is one) In this one they basically established that Sinestro IS a leader among the Corps and that Jordan is more than capable of being a GL all on his own (if a bit rough around the edges). im glad that sinestro didn't take the fall right into the villain side in this movie. With the origin out of the way, a second movie could take time to build a friendship and watch it hit the rocks without rushing it.
  12. Saw it last night and i dug it. Good pace, fun action, good action and definitely did not drag at all. There were a few spots the CGI was a bit jarring, but they didnt last and it doesnt really bring the movie down. I was down more with the secondary villain than Parralax (im hoping that's not too much a spoiler there), but i was never fond of the fear entity stuff to begin with. Seriously, i think the only reason folks are kvetching is because they WANT to hate this movie.

The adaptation was solid, the details they did change weren't that bad, and i think Reynolds sold himself as Jordan pretty well (though again, there are a few spots where he's just playing to type, but it meshes back pretty quick).

Good flick, go see it, and know there are at least two GL fanboys (myself and the friend i saw it with) who totally dig the movie and are definitely going to add this to our DVD shelf when the time comes.
  13. The best?

    -Reed and Sue
    -Pete and MJ
    -Lois and Clark
    -Wally and Linda
    -Scott and Emma
-Titania and Absorbing Man ... oh, wait. heroic. bah!

-Vance and Angelica (Justice & Firestar)
    -Rogue and Gambit
-Oliver and Dinah (what? they make sense to me!)
-Ted and Booster Gold (I keed! I keed! :P )

Sounds petty much like Geoff Johns and Dan DiDio's m.o. I know DiDio has been pushing for something along these lines since Infinite Crisis.

  17. At this point im settling in to wait n see mode. The sales people for DC will be holding a Q&A for retailers pretty soon, so im going to wait until i hear what comes out of that.
  18. So what DC is doing ISNT starting from scratch. They're frakking up everybody's back stories, wiping out some characters, rewriting backgrounds, keeping others and then going forward from there. how the hell is this supposed to keep new readers from being confused? and is this really going to do anything other than piss old readers off?

Doctor Doom disagrees, and then has you eliminated for your insolence.

Nah, if something really bad happens, he can spin the earth backwards and reverse it. :P

    ?????
Superman's been vulnerable to magical attack almost everytime he goes up against it. Where are you even pulling the idea that he'd be immune to magic under any other sun from?
  23. Beyond the inevitable conflict between Magneto and Charles, i will admit that it would be nice to see an X-Men movie not focused around Wolverine.

  25. A suit of powered armor that essentially gives a being superman's reaction time, and has a Kryptonite Power Source? so something along the lines of Iron Man's armor or the X-O Manowar suit drawing on a combo of gold and green kryptonite power source. one kryptonite powered repulsor blast, there goes superman.
