As we keep asking the short end of what stick. We martyred victim act.

I edited my earlier post to clarify my position.

No one is crying for Martyrdom. Please let's not start that.

These are the people who don't care if villains get shafted by the grossly inflated prices that heroes charge and are willing to pay for who knows how long before the markets come anywhere close to "equilibrium".

No one on the villainside pays 10,000 inf for BRASS.

    Champion, Villain side.

Common salvage drops for low level mystic can go for 50k+. Luck Charm is a popular 10-25k item.

Donno how Luck Charm compares on your server. Brass is pretty low for us though.

villains and heroes got the exact same content additions in i11.

    [/ QUOTE ]
See, this is what you fail to understand. I-11 did much more for blue side than red. If you play red side then you know, there ain't much to miss.

    [ QUOTE ]

I'm sick of "villains" saying they got nothing. Heroes and villains got the same stuff. Saying that Heroes got it alone, and villains only got a footnote is ridiculous. It could be said the other way, that Heroes got nothing, Villains got Oroboros, andthey tacked it on to Heroes because they already had the code.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I'm not touching that
    [ QUOTE ]

Some of us play both games, and have 50's on both sides. These are the people who ask for merged markets.

    RUSH the RIKTI!!

No, you have to open the grate, fight off the ambush and click it.

My doubt lies in the fact that there are about 20 scattered on different parts of the ship. Most of the time they are surrounded by Lots of Rikti. Since a bomb set by a teammate counts for you as well, teams would have to disband in order to pull it off. That would mean 20 solo clickers and 30 others to fight off the ambushes over a very large and laggy area.

    RUSH the RIKTI!!

    [ QUOTE ]
Um... okay. Knew all that. But what happens if you set of bombs in all the grates all at once? Does anybody definitively know, either from experience or from Dev posting? Is there a chance that something cool would happen?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've never seen that, and doubt that it would be possible to set them all at once. Too many darn Magi

    RUSH the RIKTI!!

I'll see if i can help you out a bit

    [ QUOTE ]

From what I read, after we board the ship, it seems like we should go from grate to grate, taking them down and setting bombs. But that isn't what seemed to me to be happening. It looked like people were just kind of wandering around randomly smashing Rikti. I mean, I did see a few people stacked around grates every now and then, but it didn't seem like a concerted effort. And nobody seemed to be calling out "Grate #1", "Grate #2", etc. So, I spent the time running around trying to help anyone who's life bar went a little too low. But much of the time, my team wasn't even near each other. I wasn't so much tanking as just busting chops. No effort seemed to be being made to corral the rikti in order to maximize AOE usage or minimize squishy death.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Once on the ship, there is no rhyme nor reason to the chaos. With a 30 minute timer on the bombs, there is a scramble to get them.

    [ QUOTE ]

As this was only my second raid, I do not know how it is "supposed" to go. Is that pretty much it? People just smash Rikti while a few folks pop the grates and set the bombs? I only ever saw one bomb callout, and several people obviously missed it because there were several skulls after it went off.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When you see "Fire in the hole", or anything similar, move away from an open grate if you are a squishy. The Blast is hellacious.
When I grab a bomb, I just yell out BOMB! in broadcast.

    [ QUOTE ]

At some point, I remembered there was a GM I was supposed to pound, but by that time people said he had already been done. I didn't recall seeing him, and we certainly didn't follow Mew's guide of pulling him anywhere. At least not that I saw.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes there is a GM. When possible, we try to pull him to a decent spot such that everyone can get a whack at him.

    [ QUOTE ]
And then, we just kept killing Rikti until we got popped off the ship. Is that it? No "you win"? No "you lose"? No definitive completion? That seems a little wack.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No win, no lose, just booted off the ship.

Now for the unsaid things. The reason that it seems crazy is that people don't listen. There are a few stoners that have taken up the task of herding groups(I try, but my build sucks, so I am normally on a corr buffing them), but there are people that don't get it and interrupt the herds or use AoE knockbacks before the herd is stacked. There also seem to be a couple of people hell bent on causing havoc lately. People have tried to Jack his raids, pull the GM before we are ready, and just make things miserable. I am not sure if it is intentional or not, but it's getting tired.

To be honest with you, the best raids are the third round, because most of the knuckleheads have left.

Oh, and a Rikti channel is not something I want to see since my globals are full

Now back to you, the players. You are the lifeblood of our game. In celebration of our new studio and our exciting plans, and in order to thank you for the fantastic community that you have built, we are pleased to announce the following.

Full Access to City of Heroes and City of Villains®
All players with City of Heroes retail* accounts will now have access to City of Villains, and all City of Villains retail* accounts will now have access to City of Heroes. Players that didn't previously have access to "the other side" will find that they do now. Just log in to check it out!

    Um...

What about those of us that paid for both games? Do we get some sort of extra bone here? Some of us bought multiple copies of both games.

Anyway, everything else seems nice. I wait to see what else the new management brings t the table.

Tuesday, November 6, 2007Dev Corner: NCsoft acquires City of Heroes Franchise

The future of City of Heroes® is Now!

This has been an exciting week for NCsoft®! On the heels of the major new release of Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rasa®, we are happy to announce the full acquisition of the City of Heroes intellectual property (IP) and formation of a new studio in northern California dedicated to the ongoing development of the City of Heroes Franchise! This is the first step in a major reinvestment back into City of Heroes and City of Villains®. Over the coming years, we plan to aggressively develop and expand the franchise. I’m sure this raises questions about what this means for our awesome community of players and what the future means for their favorite heroes and villains. Rest assured, the future is indeed bright!

While we’ve acquired the full rights to the City of Heroes IP, we’ve also brought on board the solid core team of developers from Cryptic Studios: Matt “Positron” Miller (lead designer), Aaron Brady (lead engineer), and Ken Morse (lead artist). The management of City of Heroes will transition fully to NCsoft. I will still be the executive producer, my production team along with Ross Borden the director of business and marketing will also remain. We’ve been with the game since the early days and are committed to its long term success. Our community team, which has always been part of NCsoft, will also continue to be an integral part of the new studio. In the coming months we’ll be looking to add literally dozens more employees. We’ll have a full-fledged development studio to achieve our goals and we’ll be undergoing substantial, but careful, growth to get there.

I’m sure that you’re also asking, “What will happen to City of Heroes?” In the short term, you’ll see our major content expansions, the Issues, continue. Issue #11 is due out shortly and plans for Issue #12 and beyond are already underway. The recent twelve months have been great for the game and if you aren’t familiar with all the changes that have been introduced, follow the links below to read about how the game has evolved:
Issue 8: To Protect and Serve
    Issue 9: Breakthrough
    Issue 10: Invasion
Issue 11: A Stitch In Time

We don’t expect the transition to the new studio to make a noticeable dent in our free Issue scheduling. As a player you shouldn’t see any ill-effects of this transition from a development or customer support perspective. In fact, you should see a significant positive impact on your game experience within the few months and beyond. Cryptic Studios is giving us all of the support we’ve asked for and has been tremendously helpful in this transitional process. All parties involved want what’s best for the franchise.

At this time, we’re not quite ready to disclose longer term plans. We’ll have the usual slate of announcements when we’re ready to reveal our plans. But, what I can say is that we’re building this new studio not just to maintain the status quo. We’re looking beyond the normal slate of free Issues for City of Heroes. We want to use City of Heroes as a focal point and really build on this franchise. We absolutely value the City of Heroes IP with its unique focus on the superhero genre, we’re really thrilled at the opportunities that full ownership brings to the table, and we can’t wait for the “City of” community to see all that we have in store for them. Now is the right time to get started on the next chapter!

Brian Clayton, City of Heroes executive producer and NCsoft NorCal Studio general manager

Brian Clayton is a veteran game developer with over fifteen years of management experience specializing in online game development. He has produced over ten titles (thirty SKUs) for the PC, console and handheld formats. Brian has built and managed several teams for companies such as Accolade, 3DO, and NCsoft in the following disciplines: product development, network operations, QA, community relations, and technical support.

In his current role as executive producer and general manager of NCsoft NorCal, Brian oversees the development and business initiatives for the awarding winning City of Heroes and City of Villains MMORPGs.
  14. So does this mean that Cryptic will no longer be supporting the game?

Oh boy. no wonder the Cryptic crew would never commit to anything. They were planning on bailin'

Positron, given the two year anniversy, and since there is no badge for the birthday how about some meaningful comments on what is in store for the red side for a present? Just to narrow the focus: PPP, confirm Villain EATs for I12, new zone/island plans, and plans for additional ST/TFs.

    2 years old today!

Seems like it was just yesterday that I was rolling up my Robots/Force Field Mastermind on Virtue, then re-rolling him 4 hours later when I realized I spelled his name wrong.

Just to head this off at the pass, there is no Anniversary badge for CoV 2 years... we want to get to a point where we only celebrate ONE anniversary a year, like normal folks.

    Woot. two years.

Thanks for your efforts over the last 24 months.

Now please show the Red Side a little more love.

Well, CIT seems to be working fine; what kind of issues are you having with that site?

I've fixed the Titan home page. Needed better error handling for when a server is down :/

As for CGT, it's definitely on our end. We've been having a hell of a time getting the server/network that CGT is currently on stable, and even MORE of a problem finding somewhere to move it off to that would net us an increase in stability.

It's gotten really expensive to run these sites (especially with as much bandwidth/resources as CGT chugs), and it's just not easy to afford to move it off right now

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was getting a connection error, but it seems to be fine now.
  18. I've been trying to check my badges to see how close my MM is to megalomaniac, and I have not been able to get CGT to work for a couple of days. This morning I tried CiT, no joy, so I tried the CoHTitan home page, and this is across the top of the page

Oh, boy. I can see it now the first time someone complains about CoV, there are going to be 1500 people flaming, trolling and name calling. Woo Hoo!

    Great move.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Make a legitimate statement about problems shouldn't elicit any more problems than normal.

It's when the complaint is peppered with inflammatory comments and allegations that the reasons behind the problem is some kind of CoV hatred conspiracy, that people get irked. That would happen anywhere on these forums, not just in CoH General.

Keep it simple, don't talk like tinfoil hat people.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Come on Lemur. You darn well what the villain forum turns into without provocation. No need to tinfoil hat people when it is done for you because people have a negative opinion of things red side. I already know what will happen when Bad_Influence posts anything.

It will not take anything controversial for it to start. I just pray that the selective moderation stops and that people get reprimanded for the personal attacks that run rampant in the CoV forum with this merge.

  22. I'm even getting them now. Within the last 2 days, I have gotten 6 solicitations from the same pkp person. During one set of missions last night he must have spammed every member of the team at least twice. One person on the team decided to spam it back until it either went to /hide or logged off.
