CLAWSANDEFFECT UP IN THIS MUTHAFU
Wait we did that once already.
Yes I do, but I set up on Freedom this time because of population. I tend to play late at night (I'm always awake 7pm->7am EST) and I need all the population I can get. -
Quote:Yeah. That's not the case.
In fact, it was brought up again during this week's Freedom Fridays.
Here's the response
"Sorry, there are no plans for a grappling hook travel power. While it has been widely requested, there's no good way to make it work animation-wise; the player would either be grappling onto nothing in mid-air, or would be swinging from a floating device of some kind."
Ah, he's right.
I assumed in my post above that a person would target a building but there wouldn't be a way to rule out targeting nothing in mid air... -
Quote:I've played off and on since launch, and if I had a penny for every time I've heard that about something that got put in the game would have paid for itself and it's subs.Don't get us wrong, we want it, it's just with the current engine it's as good as impossible to do. Can't find a link/source, but way back when this was shot down by a lead Dev as being technically impossible and a lot of work for something relatively small gameplay-wise.
-
EDIT---
Never mind, can't tell it not to target a point in mid-air...
---
Maybe copying spider man is impossible (and maybe we shouldn't copy him anyway...) but some Batman style gadget shot and then attached at the belt seems very possible to me.
1) Teleport Power already exists. The Teleport power faces it's target before teleporting, and applies hover for a short time.
2) Copy/Paste Teleport, rename as "Grappling Hook" or perhaps "The Durakken Device".
3) Make new power animation for it. A simple gadget, possibly using the old Taser item, firing a straight line to the target with a wire texture. Instead of the teleport animation your character takes a second to attach the device to their belt. The travel effect is quick and jerky so it looks like the new super jump teleport attack move.
4) Change animation for it's 'hover' to add a wire from the location target and attached at the belt line (does not affect power animations, everything works like from hover) and increase duration of added hover to 5minutes, but it cancels immediately if the player moves.
5) Tweak as necessary. Maybe have the wire attach high, or the teleport hit a little low (so the wire is not attaching you to the target surface horizontally and defying gravity). Or, you could let the player fall just briefly to give the wire some hang. This would also serve as a simple check to see if they are on the ground. If they land and stand, hover does not kick in.
6) ????? points in the store.
7) Profit
Precedent:
1) Teleport power
2) Repeated animations show lots of copy/pasting especially early on.
3) Sniper shots go crazy distances and leaving lingering beams.
4a) Take a look at plants set. Lots of things can appear at ground targets and know where targets are.
4b) Some powers cancel if you try to move, like snipers.
5) The game knows when you are standing with things like the Grounded power. -
How would that work in the context of this game though?
Other power sets give nine powers. Your 'spells' style combo cast with multiple powers don't really fit. If you had nine or fewer spells then those spells may as well just be the powers themselves. No need to complicate the controls. If you had over nine spells that would be ruled out immediately as over powered (Or at least over flexible) compared to anything else.
Where's the give and take behind your idea?
You know how the 'normal' power sets work.
What do you give up, and what do you get for it? -
I like it, but as stated it would be like making ten power sets and it would have to be it's own AT. I think this would be better done as a combo mechanic like dual blades uses.
Blast set (blaster/defender/corruptor)
Adjust order unlocked as you see fit.
Power (Type) -note if not obvious-
Ice Bolt (Quick Blast)
Fire Blast (Normal Blast)
Hurl Boulder (Burst attack) -nature-
Zapp (Sniper)
Fire Ball (AE Blast)
Icy Breath (Cone Blast)
02 Boost (Single Target Heal) -nature-
Build Up (Duration lasts an extra Xsec if you remain grounded) -electric-
Ultimate - Massive all elements explosion, player reduced to 1% hp if alive, resurrects with 1% if dead.
Combos:
Water Shot
Ice Bolt->Flares-> Zapp
Target is heavily electrified, takes extra DoT and a light hold effect.
Fire Wall
Build Up -> O2 Boost -> Fire Ball
Empowered fire lingers and easily spreads through the charged oxygenated environment.
A field of fire forms at the site of the Fire Ball's explosion.
Teraforming
Fire Ball -> Hurl Boulder -> Icy Cone
Nature springs to life in fresh soil.
'Carrion Creepers' Effect throughout Icy Cone's area.
Magnetic Inversion
02 Boost -> Hurl Boulder -> Build Up
PBAoE Heal on allies and knockdown/damage on enemies along with the Build Up effect animation. -
Please allow dual blades to use the axe models.
Maybe also maces?
I get BS/Axe/Katana/Mace having their unique models, but dual blades doesn't seem like it would hurt anything to open up more options that are already in the game. -
Returning player's quick 2ยข:
I have played off an on, resubbing to check out new content usually, and continue to be surprised by the unbalanced number of power sets available to the AT's. It's silly to me to see this thread talking in such short terms. This issues goes back to game launch and has only gotten worse with time. Melee always comes out ahead, and they launched the new AT's with really short power set lists.
Kinetic Melee really surprised me. Someone had the devs sit down and make a brand new melee set from scratch. All new animations and everything... just to end up with another nondescript melee set using no weapons or new game play mechanics. At least dual blades and TW added something.
If I were in charge, after beasts/staff/dark c. we'd see three new MM sets free to all players before anything else came out. -
Quote:I played a BS/DA scrapper before CoV, and I will point out that BS WAS revisited and made faster. I remember reading the patch notes and returning to the game to try it.Broadsword was never revisited, and just recently was basically replaced with Titan Weapons
You do not get the accuracy bonus with TW, and TW does not reduce enemy defense with every single hit. You can not do shield with TW (which has a self damage buff for enemies near you). TW's momentum mechanic makes stacking it's defense buff a whole different animal, and BS's defense buff is better anyway.
Maybe TW is 'better', but I wouldn't call Broadsword useless. -
Alright. I made a mace/shield scrapper.
Thanks all. -
Returning player (again). Trying not to burn myself out with a ton of alts. I have a support character I've always wanted to play set up, already have a 50 blaster, and now I'd like an offensive melee character using a weapon and shield.
Brute vs Scrapper
Axe vs Broadsword vs Mace
Leaning Axe only because I like the Roman axes I see pictures of here:
http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Weapon_Customization
If there are any other unlockable maces I'd like to know about them.
I'm mostly curious if smash is a better choice than lethal. I know they go hand in hand usually, but I seem to remember robots being common and resistant to lethal? What's more troublesome to play a lethal or smash set? I've also done a BS scrapper before and had endurance troubles so that's the bottom of my list at the moment, but I do like parry. -
Trying to keep my campaign very open, but I want to send the player into a tomb. Can anyone recommend me a very tall open tomb-like map? Any size is fine, but be specific as to where I can find it in the list, please.

Quote:You know, doing the AE missions I've amassed TONS AND OODLES of tickets. They would go quick on set stuff but I am pleasantly surprised to find that SO's are dirt cheap for tickets. I've fully decked myself out, and I already have enough tickets to do it again when they go red. I'm just going to SO myself out at 50, and probably never bother with sets. Just fill my friends list with kinetics controllers. SB > All. :P4) Visit the Market Forums. If you play on Virtue, I'd be happy to help you out in getting started, and showing you how to make influence via the market and through AE. If you use AE, you can use tickets to get SO's. If you want to maximize your character, I recommend mids. It's starting to get a little out of date, but it still is decent to get an idea on which direction you should head. I would recommend trying to get ranged damage defense to 45%. Since your a blaster, I would try to keep distance between yourself and what you are attacking.
5) I like Pepsi
Pepsi makes TERRIBLE floats.
You need a rough rootbeer like IBC. -
Quote:I combine these things, to create: Root Beer Float!
Or Spider, I don't really remember, haven't had one of these things for years.
[discussing interrogation techniques]
Larry: How did they finally get to you?
Sam: They gave me a grasshopper.
Larry: What's a grasshopper?
Sam: Lessee, two parts gin, one part brandy, one part Creme de Menthe...
-
Quote:CLAWS AND EFFECT UP IN THIS MOTHER ******Also, I raise your root beer with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
I remember you and will most certainly have a float later tonight in your honor. They should make that a two item IO set for heal powers, adding sweet creamy fizzy goodness to all who are affected. -
I don't want to be the leader and put anything together. I want to join something existing. The people who like to lead, are all leading boss farms. :/
-
-
Quote:1. Capped the XP to the same or as less as 'normal' missions,
2. Removed auto SK,
3. Limited the spawn sizes and amount of bosses per map?
4. Finally, Made maps only available to zones of that lvl?
Would be interesting to hear you answers on this!
Thanks
1) Yes. I like fighting tons of bosses, it's awesome.
2) No... that would KILL the selection.
3) No. See #1.
4) What? -
It's sad that this 54 boss farm is all there are groups for right now.
Though it IS a cool mission idea, even if it were not a farm. Just a field of boss types to kill. Feels like a good battle not just dropping them real quick like minions. People have to do their part and run their characters well. I don't really mind playing it except for all the comments calling it questionable ethically. If I had not come to the forums, I probably wouldn't suspect a thing, and I have sat out of exploits in groups before while playing other games.
I hope they just nerf Architect XP or something, because missions full of bosses are fun. -
-
I've had a character concept in mind for a long time, about a mad scientist type lobotomizing and reprogramming various enemies of his, for his daughter to play remotely as a video game. The only trouble always was, that they had to be similar in size.
I started my character, Veekz, on virtue as a massive demon thingie with it's brain exposed and tampered with. Shield / Axe brute. I will buy the science pack when 'she' hits 10 and gets a second costume. Make it a more normal sized android type thing that's been 'reprogrammed' for her to play with, maybe. Possibly a tiny faerie female.
Shield and weapons give lots of options for customization, too. Vs simply being stuck with one effect. Even with color customization I think the weapons are more flexible for having multiple 'characters' for 'her' to play as. -
1) Can someone toss me a link to the dev tracker if there is one on the new forums? I didn't see it anywhere. Seems like a good thing to put at the top of the page...
2) I seem to remember being able to bind teleport to a letter key, so when I hit the key I got the TP location selector widget and could click once to TP there. Could someone walk me through doing this?
3) I played with the AE stuff for a while and liked it a lot. Did the one where you save the devs and died hard vs the build your own moon base one. Good stuff. Then a guy came up and asked for my help getting prestige... I consented and have now learned about FARMING... I have gone up enough levels that the grind of old is laughable now. Could someone give me a heads up or a link to a post AUTHORED BY A DEV / CSR stating what is 'officially' considered exploiting and what isn't? I don't want to get banned, but I do want to play with WS/PB and the arachnos archetypes.
4) I don't feel like messing with sets as I level. I'm just going to hope the charity with influence I've seen so far continues, and I'll try to keep myself up to date with SO's. Once I'm 50, what are some good sets to look for, for a fire/electric blaster? I want to maximize front-loaded damage first. Not give up any for recharge or specials and what not. I made this guy to make things dead, and that's what I plan to do.
5) Root beer. -
If you aren't trained to kick well, a punch is a much better option. If your hand is not available, brawl's animation becomes a kick. If you have fly, you have Air Superiority open. If you didn't take it then obviously your character isn't trained or smart enough to do that because that's how you built him to be. A basic unpowered kick to try and knock back anyone who'd be able to fly and bother swinging a sword from the rogue isles or paragon city, probably would go along with that lack of intelligence though LOL.
There is no problem here as far as logic and reason.
Though I am all for more lowbie attacks. I loved the addition of the little ranged moves. One more starter power for all and I think we'd be good to go. A kick or second brawl would be redundant with the fighting pool powers though. More likely you'd see a melee version of the token ranged attacks. Mages doing a basic energy infused punch. Techs doing a little taser-shock punch. etc.
