Very nice guide. My Fire/Kin is level 39 and I have followed nearly exactly your build advice. I die occasionally, but more often than not the group falls before the disorient or blind wears off. The only time I really have any issues is with three groups. Two groups are manageable. The third usually does me in.

Very nice guide. I love my Ill/Rad. When I made him I had a very specific plan in mind. Perma AM, perma Hasten, perma Phantom Army, and cheap to build while leveling. While this is not the end all be all build it certainly attains the goals I set forth when creating him. Best of all this build is cheap for what it is. I think I have about 160 Million in it, mostly due to the Luck of the Gambler +7.5 Recharge enhancements. The main part of the build was only 70 Million. Now that merits are available, this build could go way down in price with doing Task Forces on the way up.
My build could be better. It could have a ton of purple sets in it. Some of the power choices and slotting could be quite different. I am happy with it, it is extremely soloable and does quite well at debuffing. Your mileage may vary. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me and I'll try to answer them.

Who are you? And how did you get in here?

I have an Ill/Rad that I would like to run through a MoSTF sometime before the new year. He only needs 1/2 level to 50 and should have that Friday night unless something goes amiss.
-
Base tours used to be done quite regularly so I am sure that some of the folks who used to do those could set something up.

Thank you for taking time to address some of the issues that may have been perceived with the merit system.
I typically team with two or three people and we try to run one arc per person so that each team member can have available contacts to buy inspirations. The current implementation will significantly cut down on the earnable merits for each team member. I would sincerely like the Development team to consider adding in a smaller merit bonus for finishing a teammates arc. I am fine with not getting the arc XP or Influence bonus, but a small token of "gratitude" shall we say, would make it much easier to keep pace with the rate that we could earn merits at individually. I feel that without some method of enabling all players to earn merits equally you put teaming into the category of "Why should I?" The only bonus for teaming would be the XP and to me honestly I really don't care how long it takes me to level a character. I'd rather have the rewards that I get along the way whether the rewards are merits, IO's, badges, or something else.
Thanks for your consideration. -

Thank you for this great explanation of how the Rikti Raids work.
I have been curious as to how the Heavy spawns are done since the first raid.
Great job Darkwatcher! -
This is a much more equitable change than the previous implementation. Thanks for listening to us.

Most excellent story.
Now I want a Clickety Clack badge.
*Looks at Positron sideways*
Come on, you know you want to add it in. -
My boss has a saying, "Reward the behavior that you want to achieve."
If the fix is for farming, you just rewarded the farmers by giving them more influnce and drops.
If the fix is to make the TF/SF's the way they are intended, you crippled the majority of your player base.
While I have a core group I can pull from to do a Task Force and be extemely successful at it, the majority of the player base is limited to PUG's.
I can't count the number of times since I have been playing that I joined a PUG TF and had someone disconnect permanantly or just quit for no reason. If it is the only defender or controller on the team, things just got quite a bit more difficult for the players who don't have time to know their character inside and out. For me it's no big deal, but I play everyday. For the person who plays once a week, they just became a debt magnet. And debt magnets will invariably quit after dieing a few times. If this happens a few more times, the 3 hours I have already spent is totally wasted time.
There are dozens of bad scenarios where this will totally hose the TF. Not to say that this wasn;t possible beforehand, but it will make it more frequent now.
It's bad enough that I have to run Positron at 14 to 15 and level out due to the spawn occuring at max level regardless of who is on the team. This is just one more reason to quit doing TF's in a PUG. -
Wow, $9.99 for a few costume parts? That's a bit steep. $4.99 I might spring for. I love the game and complain about very little, but considering there are not any temp powers or more than basically two costume options it's a bit pricy, IMHO.
And just to beat the trolls to the punch, yeah I know. I don't have to buy it. And at this price I probably won't. But I will give my opinion just the same, thank you. -
I'd say since I did this on about 10 ship raids that yes, this tactic does indeed work. It doesn't give enough protection to be able to plant the bomb yourself, which is why the aggro is pulled away from the grate and a stealthed/invis'd person is needed to plant the bomb once the grate area is "clear".
-
[ QUOTE ]
Actually something similar was how I got most of my bombs for the badge even though I was on a team. Four Purples means that practically nothing can hit you while you take down the grate and pull the aggro off to one side. After the grate is down and the aggro safely pulled away, a person with stealth/invis sneaks in and plants the bomb.

There are way more than 6 grates. More like 20+. I haven't counted them to be sure of the exact number, but there are a bunch.

After seeing so many really nice base layouts here, I went and redesigned my SG base yet again. I think I should name this layout '10 pounds of potato's in a 5 pound sack.' I literally can't get anything else other than decorative in the Infirmary, Workshop, Power Room, or the Control Room.
I'm really pleased with the result. I would like to say thank you to everyone I 'borrowed' ideas from. There are still a few things I'd like to do different, but I haven't figured out how to trick the editor into allowing it yet.

I'd have to ask, "Why do I need to upgrade?" And there is a reason why I don't need or want to.
I've only been playing for 25 months. It took 4 months before I started a SG. I finished the base in it's current form 3 months ago, so my 50's don't have tons and tons of influence like some that have been playing since I1.
Now that my base is fully functional to my SG's satisfaction, I can ignore the need to keep my toons in SG mode all the time and start trying to make influence toward buying all those spiffy new IO's to deck my 50's out with. And the same goes for my other SG members.
My rent is free. If I don't play on my home server, which at the moment I am working on a 50 on an East Coast server and haven't been on my home server in a month, my base is still functional. I don't have to log in to pay upkeep. I don't have to worry about the 5 small SG's that are still working on their base not being able to use the teleporters in my base if I decide I don't want to log in and pay upkeep. Anytime I log in, my base is there and works without having to trot to Atlas and pay the man just so I can use a teleporter.
I agree with you that the rent is cheap enough on the next size base, but there are good reasons not to upgrade just because you can. -
I have redone my SG base so many times I can't begin to count. For a four person SG I think we have done alright. I haven't counted the prestige, but I am estimating it at around 5.5 million. I could move up to the next size, but I like not paying rent, plus this base does all that we need it to do.

Thanks Ish and Sooner for vocalizing what I feel most of us want. All it takes is waiting 30 seconds to see if hitting that button is really worth it.

*sigh*
And here is the "real" problem. Folks that want to stir the pot without adding any sort of real value to a thread. I'll never understand folks that just want to start trouble. -
I personally applaude Ex Libris for bringing this up and asking us as "grownups" to solve the problem ourselves.
For as long as I have been here (almost 2 years) forum threads have been being jacked. It used to be the "old timers" that did it, now it is a different group.
To be honest it is worse now than in the past, but I also think our "active" server population is up more now than in the past.
I am bad about continuing a threadjack and I can admit it. I have initiated my fair share of threadjacks myself.
My posting and reading time are limited. I manage to read the forums a couple of times on a non busy day. On busy days I only manage to read them once at home.
I can certainly see that it seems all threads seem fair game anymore. I could go with a bit less threadjacking and a lot more tolerance from everyone.
Myself, I have tried to avoid threadjacking in obviously serious threads since Ex Libris posted her "Have fun here" thread.
So far I can see everyone's opinions. I came to Protector for the fun and light-hearted folks that hang out here. It's my way to unwind and have fun at the end of a stressful day of helping idiots find their way out of a wet paper bag.
If you're having a bad day, go watch a movie, TV, or go somewhere else. Please don't come into the game or onto the forum and take it out on others. Also, just because someone comes in from another server or is new here there is no need to be negative toward them and rip them a new one.
Hey, this is Protector. We rocked Hami both sides! That took cooperation and a lot of hard work. Let's find that middle ground.
Thanks for taking the time to listen to my opinion.
