  1. Ok, I've done a task force solo, (not counting Nesferatu or Burkholder as teammates). Now, I just want to go back to Atlas. How do I leave? My Ourobouros portal seems to be disabled here.

On a side note, I think I have decided not to upgrade quite yet after all. I did some extra research on my existing card (an overclocked 9600gt), and it seems I wouldn't be gaining much at all with the 260. I'd go with ATI's 5770, except I'd rather run with all the new settings with a slightly lower framerate for free, than to pay almost $200 for a higher fps with some features off. If the AA/AO thing gets fixed, you can put me back on The List. haha
    I've got to say something!

I've got an NVidia GeForce 7300 LE

According to my CoH options, I can run on Ultra Mode. I don't, mainly because my connection is pretty weak and I'm subject to mapserving due to connectivity issues.
(I think my computer is a little too far from the router.)

What you said about saving a little cash captures my sentiments. I'd rather play in safe mode than pay any amount for another video card just to play a game. Granted, it's a great game, and the look of everything running at the default installation level is awesome. But, because I've only got 1 gig of ram, I can't play at that high level. (Vista, like other Windows op systems is a memory hog. )

I'd sooner increase the size of my page file than spend money I don't need to. But, that's just me.
  3. Hmmm. I'm feeling mighty old and stupid. What, please, is a proc? Short for process? I've been gone for a few years and the meaning of this escapes me.
  4. Thank you. My level 50 toon found the merit vendor by going through that door and then the way point was very simple to get to. Now, to go defeat my evil self.
  5. I've returned to the game after far too long. I love what's been done to the Faulline, as well as the other zones, with all sorts of baddies in all sorts of zones.

I loaded up my level 19 blaster, and found myself having to go to a new contact, who referred me to a mission, in which, I ran across an Agent G, who was convinced that my hero was a villain. (Nice story, by the way)

Well, my evil self clobbered me with a quickness. When I went to the base to revive, I found that the setpoint for the mission door was on the other side of the Faultline wall. Checking the map, I saw an area that was still blacked out, but I ran along that wall and could not find a way in or over. Any suggestions? (I'm going to log in a flying toon, just to see if there's a difference a higher perspective will give. )

    Thanks.
  6. Wow, the speed boost debate continues. I built a kinetic controller without speedboost. Nobody had a problem with it. I only teamed with a couple of pick up groups, so, I wasn't too worried about hurting their feelings.

However, if I were frequently teaming with the same folks, I would get it and spam it on them, and maybe try and clobber a bad guy in between spams. I am not sure how well I would slot it - because if I solo, what good will speed boost do me? None.

So, are you going to team or solo? If you're going to do both, get it, just don't slot it heavy. And no one says you must get it as soon as possible. You could wait until level 20 or so.

And of course, I'd never boost anyone unless they asked me to do so, or use a bind suggesting they tell me not to boost them if they have lag issues or whatever.

    Hamidon Raids

I have finally reactivated my account after a long absence. I've a level 50 troller that can help if I'm not working when it takes place. I promise to hush and do nothing but spawn pets on top of Hami from up high. I think I've even got group fly, but I'll have to check to be sure.
  8. Ukaserex

    Nice folks

I just wanted to tell the players of Freedom that while returning to the game after a 3 and 1/2 year absence with trial account status, you folks were the friendliest. I didn't play on all the servers for comparison, but I recall being able to join teams at almost all levels 1-14 on your server, with several archetypes and nobody hassled me about why this toon didn't have the standard cookie cutter build.

So, my hats off to you folks. After my machine downloads the 11 or 12 issues I missed, I'll see if I've still got an SG Base. If not, I'll be coming to Freedom.

    Thanks.

    Nice people

Hey, were those in a particular order? Hakster? nicer than me? I know Sgt Pandora is nicer than me, she hugs people. Inverse order, maybe?
  10. I was telling a friend about the Prestige bonus that we got. A nice surprise. He's a clever fellow. I respect the way he thinks.

Certainly I don't base portal to Dark Astoria from Atlas, just to get to Talos quicker.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I do. I also use base portal from anywhere except bricks to Creys Folley to get to PI faster - when that toon is over 40 and can enter Ritki Crash Site.

From PI, I use the base tp to the hollows to get to Atlas faster, and go to Perez to get to Steel or Galaxy faster.

And many, many more little shortcuts that aren't that short.
  12. A fine guide, to be sure. I would have thought you would have added the "max damage you can take by AT table", though.

There is one thing that used to bother me - the whole "Your accolade HP boosts do not count towards damage" thing. Beefcake, and yourself, both mention that this may, or may not be the case.

I would love it if some of you with multiple accounts could find a level 50 tank that has HP boosted accolades. Do some math, determine the precise number of hp boosted health that tank has. For example, lets say it's 200 hp worth of accolade.

Let this tank take NO MORE than 199 damage each hit, while the empath heals for at least 200, getting the tank to full before the next hit.

Only by doing this, will we settle this once and for all. For, apparently, this experiment, though already done by Peace_On_Earth, seems to be discarded because for whatever his reasons, chose not to post about it, so I posted it for him.

I've only got one account, so it'd be tough for me to find someone to aid me in this so that once and for all we could answer this question.

Or, you could try something, you know, less damaging, as ANY single even-level Carnie minion can kill at least my Scrapper in Rest mode, since they always close to melee and then the death occurs. I got the first 4 over about 48 hours on my MM by sitting with 1 Galaxy at ranged.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Something is wrong here.... or just plain odd. My blaster - he can rest in front of a +2 juggler, in melee and he doesn't get stunned, slept, mezzed or defeated. Obviously, my blaster has fewer hp than a scrapper.

The only thing I can think of to possibly explain it, is what level is your scrapper?

Have some fun, have some laughs (it's still a game, right?), but don't loose sight of the fact that all is NOT well in COV/COH land, and since Cuppa is one of the doors to information, put some "umph" in it when you knock.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is your perception, and you're of course, entitled to it. I would suggest that we don't ask ourselves what we're going to get out of the game - but what the games going to get out of us. Attitude is everything. As it stands, I played my controller a bit tonight, enough for 3 bars. I had absolutely no problems. No defeats, no problems finding glowies, nothing but a nice evening of relaxation.

I realize that the tram gates are a little slow, but other than that, what could be the problem with CoH?
  15. Well, some might say his heart was in the right place - I say nonsense. The kid was in need of therapy. See, his motivation wasn't that pure - he wanted to be famous - that was why he was fixated on heroes. Helping people is what many heroes will try to do. And I'm not so sure Spider-man couldn't be considered a murderer by some courts, as it was his web that snagged Gwen Stacy in such a way as to snap her neck. If not murder, negligent homicide.

However, I think Frostfire being a minor should have weighed into this case. he should have been sentenced until the age of majority, which in most places is 18.

But, what can we really expect from a society that condones this "vigilante" behavior. Missions may be supported by Paragon's governing bodies, but surely, laying waste to a bunch of Outcasts who are doing nothing more than standing on a street in peaceful assembly is against our real life laws. But, they aren't in this game.

Let's not blur this line between fiction and facts.
  16. I feel your pain. I've had several bad experiences with this power. Personally, 30 seconds is too short for my tastes, but that's another thread.

My first time using it, I learned the hard way about DoT. A skyraider had shot me with a DoT, and I was low, so I phased. Animation was complete, combat log told me I was phased. And yet, the DoT kept on ticking. And I got defeated. I was pretty pissed about that.

The next time, I was fighting a +2 Ritki Boss, and my combat log said
you activate the phase shift power
    you are phased
You take 400 points of energy damage
You take 300 points of lethal damage
    You are defeated.

I sent a petition and was told that the Ritki boss had already begun his attack before I phased. It was at least 8 seconds from when I pressed the button and when I was defeated.
I asked what attack it was that killed me, but I got no informative responses from support.
  17. Ok, I've finally gone to RV.

My conclusions are : if you're not teamed, you're not likely to have any fun. What good is my hero when I can't see what is attacking me? I'm not trying to take anything away from the stalkers. The guy that got me, whoever he was, didn't talk smack, he just defended a pill box. He did his job.

however, common sense should have told me that there was a reason it was under villain control. Sadly, I wasn't even thinking about PvP. not sure why, I knew it was a PvP zone. I guess I figured folks would actually be testing, not playing. Anyways, I found no missions to do there, no contacts, so what's the point of this zone? PvP? Aren't there already three PvP zones that go underused 20 hours out of 24?

PvE is the cash flow engine that drives this train, I suggest you make things interesting for those customers as well.
  18. Silas,
I'm replying to you, because I don't feel like going all the way back to the beginning.

I currently have 315 badges on my toon.

I'm missing some of the epics in heal, damage and inf. Other than those, my toon has every badge he can possibly get.

No celebrant, ergo, no 5th columnist gladiator
    No Frozen Fury
    No Hallowe'en badges.

That's 9 badges I can't get at present time. But I do have isolator.
Do I care if someone that doesn't have Isolator now can get it? No. Would I enjoy having more badges than anyone else? Sure. Might feed my hungry ego. But, 315 is doing that just fine.

The hallowe'en event badges will be available this coming October. I'm not sure what flaming hoops I'll have to jump through to get them, but I will get them, I'm fairly certain.

Come issue 7, Isolator will be available at a tedious, slow pace.

Some of you that don't have isolator want it, and badly. There is no "fault" or blame over this.
Some of you don't want folks to get Isolator, or the event badges. -- You have your reasons, and the main one is that you say it "cheapens" your own badge efforts.
    I call foul on that.

Like anyone else, you want to have more badges than everyone else. Sure, you help folks get badges, they help you, it's all part of your server's community fun. But, secretly, we all want to be number 1.

And, I dare say that very few of you can tell me I'm wrong. Who doesn't want to have more badges as opposed to having less?

Well, by next November, the only badges folks will whine about will be Celebrant, 5th columnist and Frozen Fury. Still 3 badges my toon will not be able to get. But, I've got VIP, from the DVD collector's edition ( only copy in the store at that time) and I had no idea I'd get a badge for it.

So, old timers, you'll always have 2 more than me. I can live with that.

Inevitably, if most of us get our way, all badges will always be available for the industrious toon to get. Then we can all have the same amount.

And really, what would be so bad about that? being among peers is a good thing. Badges are for the most part what bring many of us together. They shouldn't be used as a social class indicator.
  19. Ukaserex

    just wondering

Me: Hey guys, mission is up. If you need to sell/buy/train whatever, by all means do so.
He: Radical man! I might have to take five and hang ten, though, surf's up!
Me: Who's Radical Man? He get an invite or something? :P
He: Like whoa! Cowabunga! You need to surf yourself, your humor's a little dry!

See, it's not the player, the player's skill - it's this role that he's playing - some surfer type hero, complete with all the jargon. Enough to drive a sane man mad. What do you role players do when someone starts to play an annoying role?
  20. Ukaserex

    just wondering

    I am curious about something.

Some time ago, I had a few role players in my SG. There came a time, when they all reached 50. And then, it started. These folks, who were really fun to play with... well, they changed. They began a new "role" with the new alts.

And I found one of the character's role to be very annoying! It got to where I would avoid teaming with them because of the stupid way he would "talk".

I think I would have gone mad if I lived in California and had to listen to people from the "valley" talk, if they in fact spoke the way this toon spoke (typed).

Any of you RPers ever have a problem like that? I'm just curious.
    Thanks.
  21. I enjoyed reading your post. I play a hero, predominantly because I found playing a villain depressing because of the dreary landscape. Seems like it's always getting dark there.

I also noticed that there are no rights to peaceful assembly in Paragon City, at least not on the surface. I just imagine that each ne'er-do-well that I take out had some outstanding warrant. Notice that none of them ever just give up peacefully. They either try to clobber you or run away.

Something about our own country's constitution - within it, it states that we have the right to overthrow our government with 2/3 of registered voters signatures.

That's all it takes, 66%. Shouldn't be too hard to do, really, IF there were a better alternative. I sure can't think of one.

Thanks for the post, it was an interesting read.
  22. silly me, I just press 1, as fly is in the first slot in my tray.
  23. Well, we'll have to wait and see what issue 7 brings, won't we? I know my ice blaster has no mez resistance or ability to stun. But he does have a couple of holds....
  24. Ukaserex

    Blaster role

    [ QUOTE ]
Now, the issue is more specifically - what does a Blaster do that a Scrapper can't already do? Or, even worse, is a Scrapper inherently "stronger" than a Blaster. We want each Archetype to have a well defined role, and part of our Scrapper testing is aimed directly at this.

Secondly, I have no intention of removing melee attacks - it's just a "perception" by some Blasters that some of the Secondary Sets aren't as useful as Devices or Energy Manipulation. This is a rather frequent refrain in PM's (and the occasional forum post). This is something that we should also explore...we want all the Secondary sets to be fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A blaster can fire at a running target at range - other than spine scrappers with impale, the rest of them can't do that. Are scrappers inherently stronger? Yes, when you consider the critical - but when you factor in defince - which kicks in too slowly, (the buff should start at 33% HP, in my opinion. ) the blaster and scrapper are close enough to even - the edge however always goes to the guy with the highest HP, not to mention mez protection.

Remove melee attacks? No need, but you should ensure that any blaster that wants to play a ranged attacking blaster should be able to avoid melee attacks if he chooses.

The scrappers role is and always has been sort of like a full back - wait for the tank or pets to take alpha, then run to the nearest baddie that gets near his teammates. Just charging in for the boss is a luxury for scrappers that some teams cannot afford.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
[what's the negative for allowing completists who through innocent ignorance did not acquire the Isolator?/quote]

I can't speak for Positron and the Devs - but, I would suggest that if "the masses" dictated that they want outbreak, then those that would have to code it would make it super tough because they'd rather not code something like a badge. I'm not sure what's involved code-wise - it may very well be a large pain in the rear.

That said, I have the feeling, according to an interview with Posi and Cuppa that the hallowe'en badges will be available this halloween.
