Boy, did I come into this thread late! I just want to add my 2 cents.
I returned to the game about 6 months ago. Not only do I have now have perma-PA on my controller, I've got a blaster with several sets of purples as well.
When I returned, amongst all my toons, I had 26 million inf. (no villains)
I did no "farming" per se. I just bought low, sold high. I traded well usually and sometimes I got a lesser end of the deal.
Now, other than being able to always have PA up, and having perma -hasten on my toons, that's really the only way I notice that I have any purples. In combat, sure I might regen 16% faster, but it's not something I notice. I might have accuracy maxed at 95%, typically even when debuffed - but that 5% seems like it comes more often than 5% of the time.
You might think purple sets and PvP IO sets are these wondrous things that will make you a better player - and in cases of perma-hasten, perma PA (faster recharge stuff) - they will, to a degree.
But, if you team frequently, you simply don't need any purples, or any IO sets at all. I have a toon by the name Ukase Rex on every server. He's an ice blaster on every server - except Triumph.
On Infinity and Liberty, he's level 50. Same powers, but different slotting. On Liberty, he's IO'd. On Infinity, he's not.
I can not tell the difference, not when solo, and not when teamed.
Period.
So, if 2 billion per enhancement is too pricy, don't sweat it. Pop an SO in there, and enjoy the game. -
Quote:If you send him a tell with his global spelled like that, it will tell you he doesn't exist or some other message. Since he's likely tired, I'll give ya the proper spellingWelcome to the game...
You're welcome to send me a tell in game @DRAGOS... we usually have something happening.
@Draygos
At least, that's how I reach him in game. Oh, and if you really want adventure, ask Draygos for an invite to his SG. Then, go into the base, and explore. Then, try to find your way out! He ought to call that place the Labrynth. Everything is very cool looking; he must have about 4 billion prestige used up just in decor!
I've only been in about 10 bases, and that one is very elaborate. Given the prestige he pays in rent, however, I would think the place would have been more lit up. :P
I don't think I've said it, but I want to thank Draygos for putting himself out there and hosting this. It's a large headache, I'm sure. A headache that you won't find me accepting unless there's some sort of compelling reason beyond service to the server.
So, thanks Draygos, Matt, Tempest Teacup(for her impromptu SG change)
Fitz for his commentary(nothing but love for ya) and Amygdala for her insightful comments. And if I've forgotten anyone, it's because I'm tired and likely insensitive to the valuable contributions of others. -
Cold as Ice is correct. And, sadly, there was a breakdown in communication. Draygos was unable to get his ventrillo set up or working right, so that kind of led us to rely on typing. Typing and fighting is tougher than fighting and talking.
I think the way to speed up the demise of the three spawns of baddies near the cube is for each participant to mark their respective cubes as a waypoint on their map. That way they know where they are supposed to go when the AV barrier goes back up.
The speed of killing (on the first run) didnt' seem to be an issue from where I was sitting. I would go back to what I think was my cube and there would be next to none of them left. I would spin around to the other cubes and help with heals/rez and what damage I could do.
Our problem on the first run was that we didn't get much of a dent on him except that 1 time. The barrier went back up, he regen'd and then we hardly made a scratch after that.
On the Call to Justice, sadly, my toon didn't have that on this run, and that could have made a large difference, particularly if everyone on the COP had it and used it. As far as I know, they should stack. -
I wasn't there on the 2nd and 3rd tries, but the first try seemed to me a lot like your #2 and #3.
-
Heh, Thanks Fitz. I keep asking myself what would I do without you. If there's no one else on the planet to remind me to stop taking things so seriously, it's you, Fitz.
Hmm.... you got a book or a guide I could read somewhere? I did your AE arc. And though it was filled with wisdom, I still find myself lacking common sense.
You think there's any hope for me? Ooh. Maybe ya better not answer that. I'm a mite sensitive, too. :P -
I'd like to use the failures as a learning experience. That being said, I ask this in ignorance.
When we're in the same room as the AV, there are three "cubes" which have a number of baddies. When the baddies are defeated, the AV's barrier "shattered". Then, we all attack the AV. I could be wrong, but it seems like the barrier was erecting after less than 30 seconds. At most, maybe a minute, but I am aware how time flies when you're mashing fingers repeatedly.
When the barrier goes up, we're supposed to go back to our assigned cube. I know that I had a hard time figuring out where that was after the hurricane blew me up and out. I should have used a thumbtack, but it never occurred to me that with the av there, I would need a second frame of reference. But, even so, I found myself looking around in circles, searching for a rularuu to clobber. After the initial spawns, we were taking them down pretty quickly.
One thing I'm sure of, it's not a lack of debuff. We had plenty, and we only got him down maybe 10% the whole time. But, then again, maybe some of the debuffs missed.
I just wish I was sure that it was the av. My team only had a blaster and a scrapper for damage.
Anyone else have 2 cents to throw in? -
Team 1: @Its Me Matt(Thermogenic Mind)
1. @Annihilus: SS/Shield Brute
2. Heal Source (Empathy/Pain Domination/Thermal/etc.)
3. @Ukase Rex: Ill/rad Controller <-----------Huh?
4. @Imaginary Toy: Mind/elec Dominator
5. Ranged Damage: Thermogenic Mind(Mind/therm Dominator.)
6. DupeDupe: L50 Blaster
7. Shield Buffs (Force Field/Sonic/Cold/Thermal)
8. @Geomot: Scrapper - Dark/dark
Matt, not sure what's up with me being in this 3rd slot - I'm slated to lead team two for Draygos' SG, or so I thought. -
Welcome to Liberty Server! Myself, I work pretty odd hours and find myself doing PuGs with some of the same people over and over. I think you will find that if you join a couple or three of Liberty's more populated channels, you should find the friendly people you seek.
Just click on Tab, then scroll to Join Channel
and type in
LB
LFA
or
SisterhoodFriends
Not necessarily in that order, I went by the amount of typing required.
There is a shortcut, but I can never recall whether it's /chanjoin (name of channel) or /chan_join (name of channel), so I just use the tab method. -
I'll be sending Draygos a tell - but posting here so folks will know.
I'm bringing my ill/rad controller, Imperious Rex to the CoP.
For the record, I created this toon long before Cimerora. If anything, the devs copied my name, not the other way around! Of course, one could say I read too much Sub-Mariner as a kid, too. -
That's good stuff, AV.
I know that for some, the word about supporting our troops is almost trite. But, even though I know that when we think about what our soldiers have done and continue to do for this country, there's probably a tendency to take them for granted. Much the same way I've taken my parents or friends for granted from time to time.
For another generation, the soldiers that were returning from Vietnam were not welcomed back, and were not appreciated for their sacrifice.
And now we have this day, this magnificent holiday specifically for the purpose of remembering those who gave their all, and also to encourage and edify those that are currently in the service.
It's not about consumerism or self-indulgence today. It's about love. Love of country and love of our fellow man.
Happy Veterans Day. -
Obviously, no one can really answer this question other than the tank in question.
However, for fun, I'll chime in, and no doubt, reveal a line of thought others have already expressed.
I've played many tanks to 50. Only one brute, who is at 25 right now. If I am the tank, and I see you running off into other areas - I am honestly wondering why you're on the team. If you wanted to be a solo act, go solo. But that thought is based on ignorance. I honestly had no idea until I read through this post that a brute needs to be hammered to be effective. I had thought that the fury bar worked a lot like the blasters defiance bar of old.
In any event, to avoid these problems, it is always best to just come out and explain what you plan to do. There are still a good many of us who are not min/max frankenslotters, have never played a villain(and thus, very ignorant of what your toon can and should do) and simply get into playing a role other than their real world one.
Communication ahead of time is always going to help prevent unrealized and unrealistic expectations. -
I can't speak for the rest, but I know from experience, that on Liberty, we had a host of people rolling out new toons and dusting off ones that hadn't played since the last tanker Tuesday. You'll probably have enough turn out for several teams and be able to do all the tfs. (basing this purely on the humongous player population)
In fact, I dusted off a tank I hadn't played in 4 years for the event. He was level 25. I got him to 27 that day, and with the level 30 IOs, that was all I needed to get him to 50 in the next couple of weeks.
And, oddly enough, I've got another tank here on Freedom that's level 26 that I haven't played on a regular basis in quite a while. Looking forward to it. -
Yes, it's true; Hazy led the team. However, let's not lose sight of the fact that for a Fire/Rad Corruptor, you tanked Recluse very well.
Pat yourself on the back, too. -
Kudos to our winners, but more so, to all those who competed.
I'm curious what the alignment of Vilhjamur is - I've never seen this toon in game... -
My blaster Ukase Rex is at your service at just about any point in time on Friday and the earlier part of Saturday and Sunday for Rikti
-
In a sense, we already have a "presence" on blue side. One of my alts, a brute kin/shield, level 23 now, is there, as is an alt of Zeera, Kinetic Kutie and Captian Yesterday. Captain being mis-spelled on purpose. Oh, and of course, Hazy's alt, the leader of the SG.
There isn't much in the sg now, just a few places to park excess salvage, but Captian Yesterday seems to be a base building wizard - whereas I am about functionality, he's downright artistic. Hazy has again donated a large sum of inf to help us get started, but I think the bulk of the prestige will be earned by the groups on Mondays and Wednesdays. I think by the time we hit 35 or so, the base should be complete, unless some of you more affluent folks want to make another influence-->prestige conversion.
I'm not sure how the permissions are set, but if you see me in game (Hazy is scared, he's always hiding) I can get you invited.
Once everyone gets to 20, then we can cross over. It won't be "all together" as the defenders and 'trollers might take longer (or less time) to get to blue side. But, I don't think the time disparity will be that great. -
I came across this thread in the Guardian server section
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=242788
Please keep this in mind, those of you who pray.
If anyone has any similar types of problems, be it health, finances, whatever and you need prayer, drop me an in game email or forum PM and I'll put your concern on my list. No in game tells, because I can't keep track of all those. It works. You don't even have to be specific. Just a general idea is enough. -
Aside from my silly entry, I've got to say I was stunned by the creativity. Liberty always surprises me in this regard, and I guess I should expect humor and entertainment from the players here. I think it was New Age Ronin who made a huge entrance with his Non Panda debut - Panda Poacher. I was laughing pretty hard when I saw that. All these pandas lined up, ready for the Poachers firing squad.
Very good entertainment, indeed. I'll try very hard to not be surprised this Sunday(sisterhood CC), if I can actually stay awake long enough to attend/watch/participate.
God Bless the players of the Liberty server! -
Fitz, I think it would do the server a great service if you could reiterate these things on vent. I would so enjoy hearing these comments in Richard Simmons actual voice! When I read your posts, that's the voice I hear in my head. If your content isn't funny, the voice helps me get a chuckle.
Did you mean your tennis balls, basket balls? All of them in general? -
I do understand frustration. You mention GEL and the Sisterhood, ( and they're a great bunch of folks, too) and how they might get upset if someone else staged an event at the same time and day. And, me knowing GEL only a little bit, I think she might get a bit peeved. But then, she'd have to realize that she's not the only SG leader on the server that has free time on Sunday afternoons. And, not only would all of this realization take place in a minute or less, she would probably offer to help (if she could) if the other group needed more people.
The Sisterhood is not really hurting for members or prestige, I wouldn't think. The Sisterhood does what they do on the weekends as a service to the server. It's really not any different than what Matt is trying to do. He understands how the events work, and what's needed to succeed in them. He's offering this understanding to anyone that wants to be a part of it.
Whether he's been firm or wishy washy in the leading of those events is not a relevant topic for a public forum. You take those issues to tells or PMs. (and those are typically counter-productive when done with anything less than the other persons best interest in mind)
Who would want to play in a server where all this nonsense goes on so freely? (admittedly, it probably goes on in all servers)
I've learned - I was taught by some of the veteran posters here - to be very careful what you write here. You may hit a nerve, and you'll hear about it for days and weeks, and I recall hearing about it for YEARS to come. I still get razzed about being anti-speedboost when not on a team.
The holiday season is closing in. Let's keep this in mind, and at a minimum, agree to disagree, but still be civil, if not friendly. -
Just as an innocent bystander - and a player who teams with both Horus (and a host of others who are in Robo's Lounge) and Matt (on seperate teams, of course) I'm curious about what is defined as griefing.
I have been accused of griefing once before. It took a very large headache and a great deal of chat, PM's and forum reading and responding to make my side of the story clear. The difference was - I was able to make a global friend out of my adversary after it was all said and done. My SG at the time was not in a position to stage server wide events. We were doing our thing when a server wide event commenced at the same time. I was unaware of this planned event. I felt griefed, they felt like they were being griefed.
It's an ugly accusation, and it's real easy to appear to be griefing when you're just trying to have fun with NPCs.
In the interest of server peace, it would be good if those of you with an issue with Matt (and vice-versa) would simply, without heated discussion, but calm, rational discussion explain what the problem(s) is/are and maybe these can be overcome with effort.
Now, Matt, I can understand how things may appear to you, but the Mods in LB, as a rule, are not "power hungry". I don't have to agree with all their decisions or actions/inactions. They serve a purpose and most of my problems with LB occur when there are no visible Mods. (some hide because they are too busy in game to deal with the issues, and who can blame them. It would be a large headache - it's not like they're getting a single benefit out of it.)
LFA, this new channel, if folks there are more ....tempered with their dialogue, all the better, but with essentially the same people, the same issues will resurface over time.
My advice is for all of you to forgive each other. Life is too short for petty problems. Reality, like it or not, is not your perception of the events that have occurred to make this conflict. Let's just say both sides (and the by-standers) are sorry about how things have turned out. Everyone who can't forgive and mean it, use the ol' gignore and carry on. -
Quote:This should be more fun than the first one, now. I'll make sure to find the best joke I can, and create a bind for it, but only after I botch it up on the rewrite. I can just hear the groans.November 11th is on a Thursday, I can't attend that one I'll be working.
The first two Saturdays in November are either the 6th or the 13th. I will be on a job interview in Seattle on the 6th but if it's November 13th, I can attend on the 13th!
If it is the 13th, it will be my empath Green Eyed Lady in attendance. -
Just my opinion:
Gold is valuable because of it's scarcity. It's not commonly found. I think one of the reasons that we have lackluster turnout is because when something is done routinely, (weekly), there is always next week to do the event.
If it were less frequently hosted, I think there would be more people showing up.
One of the reasons the CoP was so ...successful was, no doubt, because The Ocho was with us. But another factor was that so many had never done one. It was a rare event.
If The Ocho had been on a team for a CoP every day of a given week, pretty soon, attendance would dwindle.
So, in summary, do the MSR on whatever day you like, but only do one every two weeks, or once a month when attendance drops below a given level.
Ditto for the CoP. If it ever turns into a time sinking team member hunt, it's being done too often.
This is just my perspective.
