  1. Hmm, I find my Psy dominator pretty boring.
  2. Well, it wasn't getting to the point of using the checksum. I finally got it to work by rebooting (again) and starting up the launcher and just leaving it alone. As long as I didn't click the UPDATE button I was able to exit and restart it normally. Eventually I opened it and it said "ready to play". At that point I could start normally and let it go thru and check the updates.

    Weird.

I think all of the pre-Freedom unlocks still work.

Are you sure that's a bug, Raj? I assumed that, once you've unlocked the epics, they remain unlocked regardless of premium/VIP/sewer rat status. In fact, I was able to start a new Kheldian recently, though I assume that since I've only gotten to, er, what's the new epic unlock level again? 30? ... on two servers, that I could only do Epics on those two servers, just like before Freedom.

    I think it's WAI.
  5. One nice thing I noticed for those of us unable to be perma-VIP - I returned as a premium player after about a 6 month hiatus. I had about 6 server slots on Virtue from previous vet rewards and used my global slot on Infinity. Last month I splurged and paid for a VIP month, played all the characters I hadn't touched and so forth, then lapsed back to premium last week. While my slots were all locked into those two servers, when I logged in I was able to re-select which characters I wanted to play. I had been curious as to whether I'd be stuck with the same 7 characters that I'd been playing prior to ponying up.

The nice thing for me in all of this is I can concentrate on a few toons for awhile. When I decide to shake things up, I can VIP for a month, then re-select the toons I want to play when I lapse back to premium. Also, I mistakenly unlocked the wrong character on Infinity this time around, so I'm glad I can reset that choice next time.
  6. OK, trying to let the NCSoft Launcher download the latest patch. I click on CoX in the main screen and I get the 'trickle downloading...' message. If I then click the UPDATE button to get it to download at full speed, the launcher locks up and does nothing. The trickle download also doesn't seem to be really doing anything, although Task Manager shows it to be using some CPU cycles. I tried it several times yesterday.

Today I was still getting the same behavior, forced it to stop, then retried the launcher. Now it says 'downloading' in lieu of the trickle message, and Task Manager shows it using CPU, but I'm afraid to click on UPDATE.

I'm attaching the usual CoXHelper and HiJack logs. And yes, I know it says the drivers are out of date. *WAY* out of date. This is an older workstation built for CADD work. It has plenty of memory and decent processing power and the video card ... well, it was state of the art before CoH launched. Still, I'm used to running on minimum settings and it runs ... decent. I had to work hard to get the drivers up to date as they are - I don' t think there is a newer one for this card. Since it's a work computer that I leave at my contract site, I don't plan on upgrading it anytime soon.

  7. Maybe the devs don't want players to remain 'grey'. It's a transitory phase. The only reason they did it was to please all the RPers who wanted to be able to cross sides. It wasn't for more power-gaming options. At least that's my opinion.
  8. Heh, I've been out of work for four months, and Freedom has helped me keep my sanity. On my first day back at work, this happens.

I guess the servers missed me.

They'll show up on the 'FIND CONTACTS' button. If you know where they are, you can just walk up and talk to them. If you're too low level, they step through the opening dialog until mission start, then say "Um, come back later, lowbie". If you've outlevelled them you get thru the dialog then get the 'I've got no more work for you' dialogs.
  10. Hmm, just about any of my heroes would have saved Laura Lockhart. What, they didn't figure 20-odd level heroes would have the Alchemist accolade by now?

As for Tyrrano, he'd eat Captain Mako. Literally. Yum, shark meat. Power of the Leviathan, my big dinosaur butt!

Yah, I really did, but for some reason I can't seem to find that forum. I think perhaps I left my brain out on the back porch in a pickle jar. So I put it here. I wouldn't complain if it were moved. Like anyone'd care if I complained! =D
  12. OK, I know I'm risking ridicule and outright ostracization, but I played thru this new arc last night and flat-out loved it. Sure, it was a bit hokey and contrived in some ways but it was a good evolution of where they've been going to make missions like this more interactive. I actually found myself outraged - my normally calm and collected samurai character went thru 5th column baddies like, well, a katana thru nazis. I really felt myself get *into* the arc in a way I simply hadn't experienced before.

Maybe I'm too easy to please. There wasn't much in the way of actual *choices* but it did feel that way a bit, far more than most CoX content anyway.

Looking forward to trying the other new content. Opinions? *dons asbestos undies*
  13. I suppose I must be in the minority, but I've always liked Jack - he seems better behaved than most pets to me. My only 50 is my Ice/Emp, and Jack makes him *far* more solo-able than otherwise.

So seriously, what *are* the complaints?
  14. Thanks Aries, but as someone else mentioned XP Pro 64bit doesn't have a SP3. Meanwhile I have gotten this thing working properly now. The compatibility mode that Codewalker pointed me to got me over the hump. Thanks, all!!!

I actually found the proper driver. This station doesn't have a floppy, which made things ... problematic. Did manage to get it set up to read it from a USB drive. I had to pre-install the drivers during setup, and the first time it didn't want to see them. Anyhoo, thanks for the help, you put me on the right track.

I'm sure I'll be back - something else is bound to blow up in my face.
  16. Le sigh,

Long time no talk to you guys. Miss me? I've been playing some since 'premium' came along, which was nice since I've been out of work since November. Gave me something to do between interviews and resumes. Anyway, I'm picking up some contract work and to facilitate that I got an older workstation from a former employer for free. It's a Dell Precision 370, set up for CADD work. ATI FireGL card with 1MB, plenty of RAM. Might even be able to run CoX better than this laptop I'm playing on. (See, there *is* minimal CoX content here!)

    Here's my problem.

The machine has 32-bit XP Pro installed, works fine. My version of AutoCAD 2011 is 64-bit. Due to broke-ness and not wanting to get into the whole Win7 upgrade dance right now, I'm trying to install XP Pro 64-bit. But when I try to boot from the install CD, setup can't find the flippin' hard drive and aborts the install. The Hard drive is a fairly common Western Digital - I find it hard to believe there's not a driver on the setup CD that would work.

I've always been impressed with the knowledge and skills of many of the folks on here - you've helped me out of many problems over the years. So I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on this.

This. It's always been a fairly overwhelming ambush, especially when it's your first 20 and you're not ready for it.

Overtly hiding cash isn't a good thing - it'll eventually blow up in your face. If you fight that much over $15 a month, there are other issues at work.

To the original question, I'll be waiting awhile. It's not so much the money for GR itself, but my only CoX-capable computer (my laptop) just died *again* and I'm unwilling to keep paying to fix it. It's a heat problem so even if I *do* fix it, I won't be playing CoX on it anyway. (The latest fix only lasted a month)

Since my finances currently preclude me from putting a new system together, I'll be on the sidelines for awhile. :*(

Lots of people are set hidden. If you see 50 on search, there's probably 2-3 times that easy.
  23. I wouldn't be surprised if they consider extending the 'free transfers' and so on due to this.

Not that it helps me any, as my laptop died again and I'm unable to play at all.
