This statement flies directly in the face of one of COH's core design philosophies: That every toon should be able to solo.

This assumes that all of us want to be bothered with formulae. What's true for some of us isn't true for all of us. In my case (since I can't speak for everyone), it's a pointless time sink to have to run to a vendor to determine the price of a recipe just to determine whether or not I will make a profit on an item in the market, and then run back to him after checking market prices to learn that a recipe is, essentially, vendor trash.

And I stand by my opinion that the game should, whenever possible, display the numbers. The developers have already adopted this philosophy, in that the Combat Attributes window shows us the numbers. I don't see how this would be any different.

I'm not going to argue "crapiness" as that's subjective. I will argue "utility," however, as that can be fairly objective. We're talking about what I feel is a genuinely useful piece of information that is not really all that easy to determine if you're a new player, or even an experienced player who doesn't know the formulae.

"That Guy Who Knows Something" could be a vendor, and his schtick
could be "Hey, you can buy/sell items with me, or you could check out
those shady characters by that truck over there"...

Heck, it's already true with many Merit Vendors near the markets.
The difference is in time spent. This becomes crucial when you're teaming and need to clear your inventory quickly in order to get back into the action. If a vendor is added to the store, you still have to move back and forth between two different contacts to determine the value of an item, involving many more mouse clicks. A QOL addition, such as the one I'm proposing, would eliminate that altogether. Simply moving the vendor contact closer might eliminate the travel time, but it wouldn't eliminate the work involved in comparing vendor prices to market prices.

Forgive me, but I think you presume too much. I was not complaining, nor did my original post imply anything of the kind. I simply stated that I had noticed something which seemed to be a glaring omission, and that it might be handy. Then I asked if anyone else would find it useful. It was not a complaint. Not in any of my responses have I complained. I have, however, argued that a simple QOL addition to the AHUI would streamline the decision making process when selling recipes.

The whole point of the redesign of the AHUI was to make it easier and faster to work with the market. As I see it, this meager addition (which is not necessarily simple to implement, mind you) would be consistent with that goal.

2b> Uncommon Salvage (yellow) goes: 1000

4b> Rare Recipes (orange) sell for 200 X recipe level.

I don't recall what it is for temporary powers, but you won't get rich
    vendoring them...

Even so, why should we have to do math in our heads when the game knows these numbers and could simply display them with the item?

It's pretty straight forward and I reckon hundreds of people have memorized the price of a level 35 immobilization recipe subconsciously and don't even realize it.

I wish there was something at the vendor that will tell me what a dumb smuck I am for selling Pounding Slugfests to the vendor all this time. The Biotech employee let me know the recipe I just sold him for 1200 is worth 100.000 at the market.
There are a lot of items that I know I won't be able to sell on the market for more than a vendor will buy them for, however there are also many many more where I have no clue. Further, new players (and we soon hope to have many of them) don't have the benefit of years of experience.

It would seem to me that adding this information would vastly simplify decision making when at the auction house, both for new players and experienced players alike.

Nope, I'm not ready to submit it to the Suggestions forum until I get a sense of whether or not I'm alone in feeling that it would be useful. Although, I can see where you're coming from: a thread started there would likey have served the same purpose. I'll ask a dev to move this to the Suggestions forum.

Edit: A request to move the thread has been submitted to Mod8.
  7. I've noticed that the new Auction House UI (and even the old one) never tell you what a vendor will buy an item for. This seems like a glaring omission to me.

As a rule, I tend not to sell something on the market if it looks like I can get more for it at the vendor. (Vendor badges aren't that big a deal to me.)

Would anyone else find this a useful QOL addition?

In all honesty, if you have to mangle the URL to reserve it, it will just be harder for people to find it. Go with CityOfLore.

You are intending to refer back to known, reliable sources on ParagonWiki, right? It will cut down on the massive amounts of writing you'll have to do for topics like the 5th Column, The Regulators, and whatnot. And, it will increase the site's credibility.
  9. A few emotes for my clown characters:

/em balloons Character holds a bunch of helium balloons in his fist
/em ballooninflate Character blows up a balloon (which may burst)
/em balloonrelease Character whips out a balloon and releases it into the air
/em balloonreleasepoison Chracter whips out a balloon and releases it into the air, where it bursts, releasing poison gas
/em balloonorigami Character creates a balloon animal and presents it for display
/em balloonpop Character whips out a balloon, shows it off, then pops it and laughs maniacally (for the villainous)
/em balloonpoppoison Same as above, but a poisonous gas is released.
  10. Kid Kinetic (Underpants)
Captain Yaebl (Yaebl is an "acronym" for Yet Another Energy Blaster)
Thunderfist (Though that might get a snicker or two)

When I'm out of names, I throw a given name in front of something flashy: Eric Frostfire, Jacob Shadow, etc. I find that that opens up whole new realms of naming possibilities.
  11. I've been looking for IO Build guides for Dual Pistols, and my search has come up empty. Has anyone seen one that they can point me to?

    TIA!

    Hear, hear!

Rain of Fire is a grossly misunderstood power, in my opinion. Properly slotted and combined with BU & Aim, it melts most enemies on the spot before they can escape its area of effect.

I was in a bank mission once, and the bosses were about to escape through the door. I laid ROF at the exit. The bosses, naturally, turned away from it and re-engaged the tank. The tank was furious. "Don't EVER use ROF! It scatters them!"

"Yes," I responded. "But it also kept them away from the door, and in the building where we wanted them."

It can not only be a massive damage dealer--despite it's "slow tick" reputation--it can be a very tactical power.

If you're looking for a suitable name, how about Paragon University? You might even then be able to add a subtitle, like Department of History.
  14. Fix the doors, please.

When you enter a building, the doors open outward. This is all good and proper. When you exit the building, however, they also pull toward you. This is not correct. Doors swing one way, and one way only, otherwise, you're going to smack someone in the face.

(And yes, this is an animation, in my mind.)

Also, how about some doors that slide from side to side, like they do at big, modern buildings? Or revolving doors?

  16. Just out of curiosity, and slightly off-topic, why the devil do Magic Origin characters use Single Origin enhancements like Phasing of Grey, with a grey alien on them? What do grey aliens have to do with magic?

This disconnect has always disturbed me.

Quite right. The 6 gigs are in preparation for a move to Windows 7 64-bit. Vista can, however address up to approximately 3GB of my RAM.

This is my suspicion, as well. I have a gut feeling that there's something out of alignment between Virtue and the AH server. But, since I'm not there, looking at the internals, I can't say what it is.
  18. Personally, I don't understand why all the stores that sell enhancements of multiple origins can't filter out any enhancement that you can't use, reducing the size of their list substantially.

That would seem to be fairly simple, as it's a SQL SELECT statement, and you have to make one to get the list of enhancements from the database anyway, unless, of course the list is fixed and is loaded from a file on your local computer. Even then, a few extra CPU cycles to eliminate any enhancements you can't use due to your Origin...priceless.
  19. As lame and pathetic as it sounds, the store interface is why I almost always play Mutants. I know the enhancements. If I switch to a Magic origin, I have *no* idea what the heck to buy. The names make no sense to me whatsoever.
  20. In the interests of providing some actual numbers, I collected the following counts while running Netgraph on the Virtue server at approxiately 11:45 PM EST on Sunday, June 6. Netraph showed zero packet loss during the entire period that this process took place.

The steps used during this collection process were as follows:
    1. Drug Energy Weapon from Salvage Window to AHUI
    2. Entered price.
    3. Clicked Post.
    4. AHUI cleared price, did not move item from Stored tab to Selling tab.
    5. Repeated steps 2-4 thirteen times.
    6. AHUI removed item from AHUI. Item remained in Salvage window.
    7. Tried it gain, worked the 1st time.
    The results were as follows:
    • Gold was removed from the AHUI after the 6th post attempt.
    • The same piece of Gold was again removed from the AHUI after the 23rd post attempt.
    • The same piece of Gold was finally posted on the 1st attempt.
    • Ceramic Plate Armor worked on the 2nd post attempt.
    • Improved Cybernetic was removed from the AHUI after the 9th post attempt.
    • The same piece of Improved Cybernetic then worked on the 1st attempt.
    • Living Tattoo worked on the 1st attempt.
    • Mathematic Proof worked on the 1st attempt.
    • Temporal Tracer worked on the 2nd post attempt.
    Further Information
I am using a hard-wired broadband connection, so I can effectively eliminate wireless network issues (which were a previous concern).

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit with 6 GB RAM, and plenty of graphics power to run in Ultra Mode. My processor is an Intel Core2 Q6600 (4 CPUs) running at 2.4GHz. Essentially, it's not on my end.

The Virtue server crashed this morning, and when it came back up, there was a short-lived but dramatic improvement in the performance of the AH. This could be due to a number of factors. It could be that the vast majority of users simply hadn't logged back on yet, reducing stress on the AH server. It could be that a memory leak on the AH server had been temporarily "mopped up" but is once again causing havoc. It could also be that something is improperly configured between the Virtue and Auction House servers, which is exacerbated by high user volumes (optimal packet size, for instance). I don't know. All I can tell you is what I have observed, backed by the data I've collected, and hope it sheds some light on how things are now as opposed to how they were before.

    Edit: Typos.

I doubt it's the interface as much as a lagging server somewhere.
Some of these behaviors may have been present in the old interface, but they were nowhere near as severe as they are now. Further, I never ran into the issue where I would drag a piece of salvage into the window and it would throw it back out before. No way, no how.

Granted, I could just be forgetting. (I am not gifted with flawless memory.)
  22. I know a lot of work was put into the New and Improved™ Auction House User Interface, but something is seriously wrong.

I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to have to drag the same piece or stack of salvage into the window over and over again only to have the AHUI reject it. It either won't let me store it, or it won't let me post it.

Sometimes, it acts like it will let me store it, and then, a second later, it throws it back out, in a sort of "Neener neener" moment.

Clicking post over and over again is frustrating in the extreme. I have tons of salvage to sell, and a limited amount of space to store it in. I cannot spend thirty minutes at a shot while I'm teaming to stop and armwrestle the AHUI trying to ram salvage and recipes down its throat while it flails its arms and kicks its legs, refusing to cooperate.

The thing is practically unusable in its current state. I don't know if ths is server specific, due to high traffic volume, or whatever, but Something Must Be Done.

The above is entirely a subjective opinion, and a cry for help. It is not, however, a knee-jerk reaction, and I don't believe it's a solitary opinion.
  23. I can't recommend an add-on, but I can recommend this:
    1. Copy the text to the clipboard from the original post.
    2. Open Notepad.
    3. Paste the text in. Note the absence of color and font formatting.
    4. Reselect the text from notepad and copy it to the clipboard.
    5. Start a new post.
    6. Paste away.
Clunky, I know, but it's how I strip horrible formatting from many different document formats. And, it's free and reliable.
  24. Troll Control

    1. Stun. You stun your target by making an amazingly stupid comment. This attack deals no damage. Recharge: Very fast.
    2. Berate. You berate your target with a flurry of inane comments, confusing him. During this time, the target is likely to attack his allies. If the target is stunned, this attack has a chance to deal minor damage. Recharge: Moderate.
    3. Scoff. While this toggle is active, any attempt to assail you with reason is deflected back upon your attacker, lowering the attacker's defenses. Recharge: Very fast.
    4. Scorn. Using your finely honed ability to spout senseless and highly offensive drivel, you assail your target with a statement that makes very clear your absolute loathing for him. This attack incites the target to behave erratically, lowering his accuracy. This attack has a slight chance to cause knockback. Recharge: Moderate.
    5. Deflect Logic. While this ability is active, it shields you and any other Troll's allies within its radius from any logical arguments. Those who attempt to assail you with logic may have their accuracy reduced. Recharge: Very Fast.
    6. Incite Argument. Causes all enemies within the cone of attack to begin arguing among themselves about some stupid, petty argument. While arguing, they are Held. Recharge: Long
    7. QQ Feed. You feed on the tears of your targets. This power boosts your recharge and recovery by 100% for 1 minute. Affected targets are left stunned. Recharge: Very long. (Targeted AOE)
    8. RageQuit. Boosts the speed of all travel powers for 30 seconds, allowing you to make a hasty escape and troll another day. Recharge: Very Long.
    9. Godwin Maneuver. You invoke Godwin's Law in your favor. All foes within the radius of this attack are left both Stunned and Immobilized. Further, there is a high chance of knockback. Recharge: Very Long.
  25. Are they kidding? That's not even close.

And seriously, ANY toon that wears the Metallic costume option could be accused of being a Collossus rip-off, especially if they also use the Metallic head for thematic consistency. People really need to get over themselves.
