Tyran began to move again, picking himself up as the shrapnel was slowly forced out of his body. His respit was short-lived as he shifted his body out of the way of a dark tendril, lashing down on his former position. He flew up and looked at his surroundings.

    "Ah hell"

    F11 "My Little Submarine"

The two guards Tyran had left behind were standing watch next to the submarine, one humming the 'My Little Pony' theme tune until he noticed the glare from his partner. They readied themselves as things had suddenly got busy in this port.

A nod to the knights resulted in a combined blast of dark energy. They shot them wild though. Not watching where Tyran was at all... and not caring either. "Don't damage the hero!", Jack tried to reason. But he was not sure if these zombies even heard him.
Tyran crouched and jumped, avoiding the blades with grace and agility more likely seen on an Olympic gymnast roughly half his size than his seven foot, two-hundred and fifty pound frame. The strikes he attempted were met with the charged armour, his fists clenching tight as his muscles were forced to contract. He landed, fur singed and flesh exposed briefly as his healing kicked in and restored the charred patches.

He held his swords out and they changed shape, from the machete shape they were to a more streamlined katana. The blades were now Impervium katanas, slender and sharp. Tyran was caught off-guard and blasted into the undergrowth.. or at least what remained, shrapnel piercing his body in several places. He lay there, motionless and silent.

Tyran let out a single breath.

"Such is the impatience of youth"

Tyran looked over the Court's members, his face hiding his desire to simply kill them while no-one could bare witness. For now, the agreement stood until the opportunity presented itself again. He face suddenly turned pensive, head turning to the east wall, ears twitching slightly.

As he did so, he sent a message to his team-mates above via the Nighthunter's amulet.

"Tyran please report" he asked. "Did the Court attack? Sorry I can't come back and help, but it seems my wife is pinned down in an arena hidden beneath this plant. It sounds strange I know, but nothing on this Island has made much sense so far. I have to reach her. Can you handle the situation alone?"
Tyran brushed off the rubble now covering him and looked out at the monstrosity heading to the building. He picked himself up, drew out his swords and charged at the enitity with a feral roar.

We need to get to the plant. My wife's already there." With that said, the holy man took to the air and headed towards the exit tunnel. "Why don't you leave your soldiers to guard the submarine Tyran? You and I should rejoin Damsel at the plant... see this Tomb for ourselves."

Priest flew out of the tunnel with such speed he did not notice the US Army helicarrier that had air-dropped Damsel's team, descending from above him and coming in for a landing near the Eastern Cliff. With supersonic speed he burst forwards, the crumbling structure of the old Insidium Plant coming into view.
Tyran waited till the Priest was out of earshot and looked to his cohorts.

"If they step out of line shoot them... and try to make it a flesh wound."

One of them made a cheeky two-thumbs-up and Tyran flew casually after Pious, the other brought the grenade up. Both shook their heads with a 'too easy' posture before setting to their task of guarding the sub.

"Jack, isn't it?" he asked, looking around the room for hidden entrances, while his thoughts communicated with Damsel over the Nighthunter's amulet.
Tyran landed into a slow jog entering the building not long after Pious. He looked over the Court members and took position behind Pious.
  5. Seeing as there is still a market for these packs, especially given their rarity these days, I see no reason against making a 'Heroes' and 'Villains' booster with just the in-game digital items from the CoH Deluxe/V.I.P. and CoV Collector's editions respectively.

There's a Mac Booster, a GvE booster and a GR booster (although you still need GR to use that one) but the precident is there for the older packs to have one as well.
  6. Let's also not forget that with i19 comes the chance for Primal characters to visit Praetoria. So chance for new AND old to playthrough.

The amulet on the Priest started to glow and Damsel's broadcast reached him. "Roger that Damsel, please be careful" he replied.
As Pious answered, Tyran looked to his comrades with a palm open after clicking his fingers. They looked bemused for a second.

    "Grenade"

A look of glee came from behind the mask as the 'grenade' disc got pulled out. It was short-lived as he handed it over to Tyran with a grumble of disatisfaction.

"They won't give up answers easily. No doubt loyal to her either through desire or brainwashing. But there's other ways to get information."

Something about seeing the bright pink submarine with it's pretty pony paintwork, brought a tear to his eye.

"Tyran... what kind of a world do we live in, where the innocent soul of a child is caused to become so twisted and so lost that it ends up here, living like this? This young girl needs help. We cannot let her be executed. My daughter for instance loves My Little Pony. The thought of something happening to her to turn her into someone like Tomb... it would be the greatest failure. In all honesty, we should hold ourselves accountable, as members of this society, for what has turned this little girl into a cold and calculating mass-murdering outcast. She's no more a villain than the victim of man's own evil ways. Surely you'll agree?"
    "No"

He let the denial hang in the air for a moment.

"A few centuries ago, I came across a village of farmers. Proud and relatively carefree, they seemed to want for nothing. They worked hard, celebrated life and watched as their children played in the forests. Then one night; they came for me, bearing their pitchforks and scythes as weapons of war and I slaughtered them all. You see they had all died centuries before, their bodies possessed by demons who kept up the pretense in order to lure more souls to their master.

The point I'm getting at it is that sometimes the cover is just that. It may look innocent, it may even take the form of innocence but sometimes it is only used by the darkness to hide their true face."

    Tyran swished his swords round.

"But I guess we'll see when we see her."

    "No grenades"

The further he flew the more he noticed that inside this cave, the movement of light and shadow were unnaturally distorted. The sound of crashing waves are odd too, as if noise was snuffed out by a blanket, coming in from behind closed doors.

With peaked intrigue, the Priest propelled himself deep into the hole and quickly hit a wall. "Some kind of clear, protective field in here Tyran" he yelled back, before peering in to study the barrier. "Come take a look at this. The composition of force here repels, quite strongly, like an elasticated build up of tension. The only way we're getting through this is to counteract that pressure. Go in hard and penetrate with force. Hopefully we can break the rubber."
Tyran and the others made their way to the cave, slowly making their way in. The two soldiers followed Tyran slipping on some nightvision goggles as he strode in carefully avoiding the natural features of the cave. Eventually his party came to the barrier where the Priest was awaiting. They all stared at it, one of them approaching it and trying his luck with a punch, letting a grumble slip out as let his gun fall on its strap, clenching his hand as it hurt, a lot.

"Hmm, strange. Definitely a barrier but what kind?"

Tyran stroked over it gently, brushing against the surface tension of the field.

As he hovered there above the waters, he saw something moving in the greenery. The stripped fur of Tyran Gar and two accompanying soldiers. "Tyran" he called. "Good to see you. Can you get down here? I've spotted a cave at the side of this cliff. Think we should look into it."
Tyran sliced through the plants with his swords as the two men followed. He stopped and looked to Priest as his fellows took a defensive stance, expecting trouble.

"Of course Pious. Show me the way and I'll follow you."

Tyran gestured to his comrades to get up and they relaxed.. slightly.

This is exactly what i19 will bring for me too but on all my builds (when I get round to respecc'ing all 90+ of them that have fitness already).

My main gave up a lot of primaries and secondaries to become viable and I've experimented with his build the most over the course of his six years+ of life. I've gone without travel powers, tried using phase shift, had and gave up trying to maintain leadership and then balanced myself around it. The last respec I did was when energy mastery got the extra move added.

I have a empath and a mastermind who both went without fitness, mainly because of their powers (Empathy's reg/rec auras and thugs/dark). Now they'll get it as a bonus to their existing 'classic' builds.

My regen/willpower scrappers and brutes now get to triple stack fitness (fast healing and quick recovery with Physical perfection) and have extra powers to choose from like the fighting pool.

And my widow will love getting the extra jump boost with hurdle and I can take more of those great Night Widow and Fortunata powers. She's currently a hand-to-claws specialist with softcapped defense on basic IOs so being able to take some of the powers I've had to sideline towards her goal. Now I can add in the odd ranged attack for those annoying runaways too.

It also means more power picks at lower levels too. Right now I tend to pick powers up to 10, travel power and pre-requisite at 12 and 14 and then fitness afterwards. Now it can be straight picks all the way up to 20.

The edge of the jungle was quiet and undisturbed, backing on to the east side of the island. A breeze swept through the undergrowth and three figures appeared from nowhere. Tyran Gar and a pair of soldiers armed with guns and blades walked slowly towards the jungle with Tyran at point. He scanned the fauna and stepped in, pushing branches aside as his cohorts followed him in.

The results for the first roll?

Glimpse of the Abyss: Chance for Psionic Damage (Recipe).
Trap of the Hunter: Chance for Lethal damage (Recipe).
Aegis: +Psionic and Mez Resist (Recipe).
    Sovereign Right: Acc/Dam/End (Recipe).
    Mako's Bite: Dam/Rech (Recipe).

All in all, it was pure crapola and largely a waste of a merit. Taking the value of the rare salvage needed for crafting, the only item there moderately worth crafting and listing is the Aegis, which would net roughly 10 million (sells for around 15 million, and fees and salvage value eats 5 million of that.)

Over all, I think I would have been better off just purchasing whatever it was I wanted in the first place for a single merit (Stealths are mostly what I am after, plus a few other odds and ends here and there).

Or perhaps 35-39 is actually not such a good range after all. Perhaps 30-34 would be better?
Actually what I'd do is use 2 merits to buy a level 30 healing proc like Miracle +Recovery or the Numina's RegRec. Worth at least 100 mill and guaranteed to sell high. Couple of good sales and you can buy a purple for the equivalent of 4 merits (and the inf to list it at 100mill+).

Skull and Carnival masks are in the gray area for me, but most other parts are fair game for discussion.
For me; only signature heroes deserve their signature pieces (Statesman's helm, Maelstrom's heart, Recluse's backpack and helm, etc.). Everything else should be fair game.

For one; the Vanguard set was supposed to be 'for everyone' and we have missed out on the second belt with thigh guards and the backpack. Having had the opportunity to actually wear them during the server transfer testing they were perfectly wearable on my PC.

For two; one of the most consistent themes is people making characters that used to belong to enemy groups, most obvious being the Crey Revenant Hero Project. It's slightly galling that we CAN'T make their outfits exactly like they should be.

For three; people have gotten very close to making NPC outfits already, thanks to their creative nature and the robust creator. I have already been 'confused' when one friend made a Longbow character and we teamed up in a mission against Longbow. I was wondering how my MM could've missed one and it was actually my friend.

On the same point we have often been fobbed off with 'clipping issues' which was rendered mute by the releasing of the Magic Booster and 'the cape which clips with every shoulder detail' so please don't use 'It doesn't fit well with other parts'.

Then we have Kheldians who can shapeshift and Soldiers of Arachnos who can look exactly like NPC counterparts. 'Confuse other players' just comes across as the latest buzzword(s) for why we can't get these pieces and yet, as said, the plan is to release new NPC parts designed with players in mind and we already have the above epic ATs as well as Vanguard, Resistence, PraetorPD, PraetorClockwork and soon the new IDF outfit.

I have seen that some NPC pieces are built together in a block so the best way to show people is to actually show them. I had a bizarre Ghost Pirate ParagonPD Vanguard which looked horrendous as a mix-and-match. But try to avoid using buzzwords like 'clipping issues' or 'doesn't fit' because they quickly turn into a rather unfunny running joke.

    My personal choices would be:
Vanguard backpack and belt w/thighguards (used to be Vanguard Belt 1)
Paragon Protector outfit (it's really a tights outfit and a short cape, nothing clippy there).
    Ouroboros parts.
    Longbow/Hero Corps emblems and patterns.
  21. My first wasn't so epic in his ding. It was just after i9, he'd done the new Hami (urgh, 7 hours) and by that point I had all but given up. I made it to 46 with the hope of joining a powerlevel team as a bridge and spent two nights soaring the rest of the way till he dinged 50 where I did what we all did back then: made a kheldian, played it a bit and then barely touched it for another 3 issues or so

He has helped other reached 50 through RP and one was more directly. A friend was levelling his Earth/Storm troller and was breaching the 49 run. So we got together with a thrid party and began an Ouro run in the RWZ arcs. We went through the initiation arc and then on to 'The Strange Case of Benjamin A. Decker'. As we finished the second arc, I called it in and my friend dinged his first hero 50 thanks to the old double reward finisher.

My first epic 50 came when I tried Spines/Dark (after dinging 50 on a firekin and my MM had dinged during a solo mission late one night). He solo'd most content easily on common IOs, some of which he's STILL slotted with, and was my first real F-YEAH when I took on Baphomet and won (my first solo high level E-B defeat). During his 49 race-to-the-finish I stayed up all night with a friend (also on the 49 run) and dinged at about 11am doing one of the old Praetorian arcs.

Since it unlocks via multiple souveneirs, exploration badges and even a single mission via flashback (I have several level 10 characters with the portal power) I imagine that it's easier to setup a condition in the game mechanics just like how each origin gets a specific temp power when you create a new character.

This way it fits those who have been exposed and those that (choose to) avoid time-travel.
  23. AE badges. They should all be account-wide. It's a global system after all (and getting 8 people together out of primetime for the Among Friends badge is literally like herding cats).

If you only play redside for the VEATs then you can keep at least one at 20+ and it will unlock the VEATs if it 'forgets' since you only need one alt of the right alignment for the epic of each side which includes the Epics themselves.

Having said that I don't mind the idea of the Devs providing more costume recipes for new types of costume items in general. In fact ever since they came up with the "costume recipe" concept I've been expecting them to add to what's craftable that way.

But I don't exactly like the idea of restricting costume items to any particular alignment (even if it's just a restriction on how you can buy them). So far in this game there's absolutely no restriction on any AT, alignment or origin as far as costume items go. I don't really see any advantage for them to start doing that now.

Actually it would be nice if it could go further and include all unlockable parts that you would have to badgehunt for. As mentioned the Croatoa Witch's Hat and the Epaulets that are locked into heroside content could be unlocked for pure villains via alignment merits. Same goes for the elusive Rularuu weaponary. Allow every costume part to be unlocked via the merits. If you want them now or don't want to badgehunt then you can make use of the GR system to simply buy them as an alternative option.
