I've never heard of building for fire defense only being a desirable thing to do, in any circumstances. I always thought the enemies in fire farms did only part fire damage and part smashing or lethal damage... I could be wrong though.
-
Quote:Heh, I've made builds with similar goals at least three times before, and every time it ends up being very dwarf focused. Good mids practice
I was thinking about making an alternative human only build for my Warshade because I've never tried it before, but I became severely bummed out with human only's almost complete inability to keep recharge high and defense where I need it.
My tri-form build (the one I actually use) currently has 185% global recharge and 30% defense to s/l without using toggles... And I couldn't get a human build anywhere close to those numbers without ending up with a retarded looking build, even with toggles left on...
I saw Alien's post I mentioned earlier when looking for info on Human Only building (after I got bummed out when I tried it myself) and thought, "I could probably softcap a tri form build and still end up with as much recharge as a human only build, without severely gimping anything I need."

Quote:I have had quite a few crashes lately, so many that I was beginning to think my computer was breaking down. The latest (just about 15 mins ago) gave me an error box that said :
= = = =
./piggs/texGui2.pigg: Failed memory allocation
Read failed for file: texture_library/GUI/CREATION/common/Backgrounds/background_skyline_normal.texture
-1
The game ran out of memory and must now exit.
= = = =
My machine is not state of the art, but it is well above the recommended set up for the game, and hasn't really had any trouble with anything else I play.
Just an FYI when I saw this thread on the topic.
I've seen this one a couple of times, too. Not sure if it was the exact same error message, but definitely similar. "The game ran out of memory" message has definitely come up for me before, which is odd because I have just under 3 gb of RAM. -
Quote:i've had the game crash several times recently, mostly involving battles with a lot of effects going off at once. It's mostly been a problem on my FF/Rad and very rare on my other alts. However, it hasn't happened the last few times, even running iTrials. What i did was create the macro [/macro GFX "unloadgfx"] and use it a couple times during each mission.
I use that command whenever I need to, but I find this problem to be on the game's side like some other people seem to be saying. My computer has been running great, I never have issues with anything else except for COH and I run quite a few other fairly intensive programs. -
I know this was something we talked about a while ago, and the idea just came back to me. It was established that it is do-able, but not without severely gimping yourself. This build isn't ideal but it's far from unusable, and it doesn't even use any purple sets. (It does have a Glad Armor IO though..)
I found a post by Alien One saying that perma-eclipse can still be had with ~150% global recharge, which inspired this little project. Here are some of the drawbacks...
Nova blasts are a bit underslotted. They're not completely gimped, but they could be better.
Dwarf only has its' default slot, with one Damage Resistance IO. I usually like to use 3 or 4, but with perma eclipse you'll be resistance capped anyways.
There are powers that will never be used that are being overslotted as set bonus mules. This is the main reason why I wouldn't actually use this build, but no essential powers are completely sabatoged. In fact, most of the cornerstone powers are slotted fairly well (exception being Nova Blasts)
Anyways, without any further ado, here is the build. I know it's not perfect but I was pretty proud of the fact that I was able to get these numbers where they are while still making something that's playable. Enjoy!

Quote:I've noticed this a lot too and it has bothered me on TFs, especially ones I wasn't used to as someone said earlier. It's not really an issue for me anymore, because if I'm on one of my 50's doing a TF I've already done several times, I don't need XP anymore, and chances are I'm doing the TF for a badge, merits, a respec, or incarnate goodies. If "winning" involves blatantly unfun gameplay or, worse, gaming the system (say, getting a hostage killed to fail a mission to get through a TF faster), then this just becomes unpleasant. And yet, 9 out of 10 TFs I get on, people want to fail missions, ghost missions, skip missions and rush missions. I actually recall running a Respec that took 15 minutes, 10 of which I spent waiting to be teleported, waiting for a boss to be killed or waiting for someone to play my game for me.
You always have the option to form your own teams for TF's and trials though, and feel free to explain up front that you will NOT be ghosting and will NOT be failing missions, etc. I find that when I don't feel like speeding through stuff and I'm not wanting any particular reward, I play one of my various characters in the 20's-30's and join or a form a team in my own level range. Before level 50, people are much more interested in playing through everything because of the XP.
Another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of people have just done everything in the game so many freakin' times that all they want to do at this point is get it done. I'm personally not one of those people, but I could see how doing things 'the long way' might feel pretty tedious for them... Good thing the next issue is going to be loaded with tons of new content for us to play through and enjoy until we know it like the back of our hands. -
Is that the best advice the scrapper board has to offer me? I thought you guys were supposed to be clever.

That was the most interesting build critique I've ever gotten. -
Quote:Try the Technical issues and bugs forum - they have a post there about the basic stuff to post for them to help them help you.
Oh yeah, I've been through all of that already. I just posted here because I was wondering if it was an issue effecting a lot of people or not. -
I will be finishing up running this character from 48-50 tomorrow so it's time to talk build. I will be using it for farming but I don't want to land myself with an AE tailored build that is gimped in normal content. I found some old threads that suggested building for positional defense instead of typed, which I guess makes sense since I normally build up s/l/e/n to 32.5 but positional would cover fire damage also..
My build goals were idealistic and naive which I discovered about 10 minutes into my mids time for the night. I wanted to get my s/l resistance to the cap, build 32.5% melee/ranged defense, with good HP and around 150% global recharge. I noticed I was chasing way too many things and I ended up with a gimpy build that still didn't manage to reach all the goals... So I made some compromises. My only expense limitations are no purple damage sets or PVP IO's. Though that glad armor would be nice, as always...
I really just can't get numbers I'm happy with. I'm horrible at making builds for melee characters, the lack of an epic pool s/l defense shield seriously limits me. This is literally the best I could come up with.. Someone help me?

After the last issue update I've started to notice crashing up to 5 times a day. The crashes vary- sometimes I'll get the error report screen, other times I'll get a bug where when i zone, the map disappears and I'm falling infinitely through a blue sky. I've even had the game outright disappear. Just... Close itself. All gone.
I was on a team yesterday and several other people had been noticing a huge increase in crashes lately too, I was just wondering if this was an issue effecting a significant amount of players? It can be brought on by literally anything- I'll crash while at the market, on a trial, or loading a zone. It's totally sporadic. -
I'm very excited to finish leveling my dark/dp/mace defender.

Quote:You know, I wasn't going to bring it up, but yeah Warshades really fit the bill for darkness powers. By far, they are the most fun thing this game has to offer (in my opinion). If you're interested, I suggest you read the guide in my sig.
Don't lie. You were going to bring it up. -
Quote:In the new build, drop the last enhancement in Eclipse for a 50 IO of Recharge. Gives you 8 seconds of lee-way.
Very nice build for so cheap of IO sets. Recovery is kind of lacking, but still very impressive.
Recovery should never be an issue. If you're playing your warshade right, and you have that much recharge, you will always have enough bodies at your feet to fill both of your bars more often than you should ever need to.
Edit: Where are my manners? Thanks for the compliment on the build, I think it should be pretty effective and I hope the OP gets some ideas from it. -
Quote:bosses need to be in AE mishs because of the xp rule on enemy groups
back when AE first came out the most popular non-exploit farms were maps full of LT only baddies
then they instituted the rule that for custom groups you need to have a boss, LT, and minion type baddy in every custom group or you group would take xp loss (the exception for this is bosses set for objectives, but only the boss)
if you have only one of the 3 in a farm, they will only give 25% normal rewards
if you have 2 of the 3 then they will give 75% normal xp
if you have all 3 then they will give normal 100% xp
then you have to factor in the individual baddies for the total xp
Ah ok, thanks very much for explaining that Necrotech. I've never attempted to be in on the "Behind the Scenes" of AE, so this was really helpful to me.
Quote:If you're at all interested in experience then bosses give the most of it. That's why there used to be boss farms, but not minion farms. ^_^ (In AE at least.)
Quote:elf-PL a SS/FA Brute, you can get to 50 in 1 day if you play all day. I took three. Use the damage aura and occasional ST attack to get to Burn in lowbie farms and using lucks. -
Personally I thought DoV got an awesome turnout, I think Stalemate worked really hard and did a wonderful job promoting it and I felt like it was a success. That was probably the most I've ever seen happening on Protector and I'm very glad I got to be a part of it. There wasn't much to improve from my perspective.. Sure it could've used more people, but what event couldn't? I think the thing most likely to increase the turnout next time around is people will say "Hey I remember the first one, I had a lot of fun! I'm gonna tell my friends it's happening again!"
-
Warshades are pretty dark and really fun. I also like my dark miasma defender.

Quote:How is it possible to have a problem using the forums? You just log in and read for 5 minutes. I know most people don't use the forums because they don't care to keep up with what's going on, and that's fine, but if someone DOES want to keep up with what's going on, then the answer is use the forums.
When someone is saying that there's a problem with promoting an event via the forums because not everyone uses the forums... the answer is NOT "use the forums.
I find it hard to believe I'm being told to let this go. Apparently I'm the only one seeing the irony of someone complaining about how they missed something because they don't use the forums.... On the forums... -
Quote:Please note that the option is to turn bosses off when solo. Not turn bosses off.
If your argument is that they should have an option to turn bosses off period, g'luck mate. Of course if your point of view is that the devs created the AE so that the player base can farm efficiently, then I suppose that you may think that is a reasonable request.
Bahaha, fair enough. I suppose I should try to make my own AE mission that just does not include bosses, period. Unfortunately I don't know anything about constructing them, et cetera. I guess it's time to acquaint myself with a new section of the boards?
Quote:Well, the actual function of AE is to let us make player created missions to tell our own stories. Since some of those stories are going to include planned bosses and many of them include standard enemy groups (which have bosses in normal play) it only stands to reason there would be bosses in AE too. -
Okay, thanks everyone. Your responses and a couple of conversations with friends have lead me to a new question--
Why is it that bosses exist in AE at all..? All they seem to do is slow down the function of AE in the first place. It was pointed out to me that my warshade kills everything without batting an eyelash on +3/x8 very quickly... As long as bosses are turned off.
Now, when I bring low level characters along, I never turn bosses back on. They just sort of... Decide to "LOL I R turn my self back on."
I would like them to NOT turn back on. If the spawn sizes are the same, I would also like to KEEP hitting the ticket cap in 5 minutes max. on the SAME difficulty setting that I use when solo. I would also like my friends to get the XP that I would deliver by clearing farms at the aforementioned rate, very quickly, without me going past the ticket cap or dealing with bosses, EVER.
K, thnx. -
Once again: If you spread all this time you spent typing responses to this thread over the course of the last month and spent the same amount of time reading what's going on, you wouldn't have missed anything.
-
Well, I'm wondering why I can clear AE maps on +3/x8 in less than 5 minutes solo when it takes 10+ minutes on teams.
-
It was very recently. I just can't remember the name.
The point being brought up was..
Spawn sizes of (whatever)/x8 are larger on full teams than they are solo, correct?
I have a friend who seems to think that your x(whatever) setting determines the size of the spawns, regardless of if you have a team or not, or the amount of teammates you have.
