"Hilarious" isn't exactly the word that comes to my mind ...

Quote:Honestly, I don't give a carp about staff fighting. It can come tomorrow or never, I don't care either way. It's not really my thing. But don't worry I get the point you're making. They'll still be releasing issues on the normal schedule, as well as the standard sorts of new content they would release normally, it's just that the store will be full of "extra mile" stuff. That doesn't mean they won't try raising the bar with issue releases, it just means that anything they do extra will be pay content. It's a good plan. It allows them to retain the stuff we've always gotten, but also allows some team members to work on those "pet projects" and powerset experiments that would normally never see the light of day by turning them into pay content.
Or, to put it another way, would you rather not see staff fighting for another four years, or in another six months as a pay-for set that a subscriber can get for free by being frugal?
I'm well aware of everything you said. Trust me, I'm firmly in the pro-Freedom camp. That doesn't change anything about what I said in my previous post though. -
Quote:From what I've seen I have no doubt that TM will a great set either. I'm actually already designing costumes for the 2 characters I'll be creating with it.Why? I have no doubt TM will be an awesome set. If it is lackluster, fine. If it IS awesome, then they raise the bar on what our expectations can be for sets we actually pay pp's for. In the end, what do we lose?
It is the reasoning I'm dissapointed about. As it gives the impression that all things that truly raise the bar will be payed for extras. I'd like the have some bar raising included in my subscription every now and then too. -
Quote:In that case 'one day' will be the time that I buy them. While i'm sure there will be sales and a bunch of them as well as a lot of single pieces, i'm also sure there will be plenty that will make up a set. A possible suggestion might be for VIP players to buy a bundle like a super booster for the 800 points. Don't get me wrong i'm in full agreement that i don't use all the pieces from boosters, but at the end of the day i still have them and maybe one day i'll find a use for them.
-
Quote:That's ... dissapointing.

Quote:It will be cheaper for me."Buy the booster packs right now to save money, since things will be more expensive ala carte."
Does anyone else see a problem with this? I'm not trying to start an argument but, it seems silly that my money will not go as far as it used to for the same items.
If I look back at the all the packs I've bought (all of them except the emote one), I notice that I currently only use 3 costume change emotes, none of the regular emotes (most of them are really well done and they're fun for goofing around but really, how often do you *use* them?) and 2 'powers' (ninja, size change). And most of the costume parts on one charcter or another of course.
If I add all that up using the current PP prices I'd have been off cheaper picking and choosing instead of paying 8.99 for the full pack.
That being said, I don't regret buying any of the packs. -
Quote:Erh ... Time manipulation IS free for subscribers, but the reasons you are giving are truly horrible reasons for making it free. It sends the message that we only get 'average' and 'vanilla' stuff for free and if we want to see something actually worth while we have to fork out.Your info is wrong. Time manipulation is free with issue 21. reason being, it took minimal resources to put it together. The reason why street justice and beam gun are extra is because they are using new animations, and totally new game mechanics. considering that they are coming out so soon after demons, kinetic melee, and time manipulation, I think it is understandable to pay a bit extra for it, even if using the free paragon points we are given with our sub. Otherwise, I dont see it as being unreasonable to wait another year for the sets.
Also they're not true, since all the effects for time manipulation are completely new (and quite lavish from what I've seen) and it uses a unique mechanic too (combinations of different buffs/debuffs give extra effects.) -
Quote:This mainly. Apparently there are going to be uncommon recipes for sale of the market and even though those aren't top end powerful it's already a step to far in this direction i.m.o.Enhancement sets, Warburg nukes and other super powerful temp powers. It would be worrisome if the model started to lean towards "paying for power."
I don't mind paying for extra power sets, costumes, slots for all and sundry, as long as we they are indeed extras and we be still will be getting a good part of that stuff for free as well.
I would be annoyed too if they made things like Itrials pay for extras. (on top of the subscription.) -
Quote:How ? .. whu? .. buh ... urg ...Commented on a dev post and having an opinion about stuff apparently makes people ignorant to you. It seems to be impossible to carry on a conversation with half the people on these boards nowdays. You continue to prove that with the rudeness of responses calling me ignorant, telling me I don't know what I'm talking about because I don't have facts. Well you don't have facts to prove that I don't have facts buddy. You have the same information that I do unless you happen to work with them. But I can tell from your posts that you think you have all the answers here and are so sure of yourself so theirs no use for an ignorant person such as myself in trying to carry on an intelligent conversation with a person of your intellect.
*Walks in the other direction*
Before this post I thought you were just being intentionally stuborn. Now ... well, I'll leave it at that. -
I was reading the story feeling like I was missing something somewhere.
Apparently I was. -
The main thing I'm taking away from that list is that I'm woefully under read in my favorite genres.
I did manage a vote, even though some of my favorite works didn't make the list For instance Bujold's Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. Also Feist/Wurts Empire trilogy totally wipes the floor with anything Feist produced on his own. -
Quote:Same here, I got an angel/warrior of light type character who would love to use the valkyrie set head wings, but can't because they don't come with a headband.Yes. I've got a valkyrie character (whom I have a framed David Nakayama sketch of on my wall above my computer), and that's the only reason I use the old wings. The new wings look AWESOME, but don't have that headband/tiara with earplates piece. It looks like she's got metal wings growing out of her head if I use them.

Quote:I know. But again, you were spouting nonsense and being confrontational so I choose to react again. My poetry was aimed more at that special player broken voltage (Devs bless him.) and not towards you. Despite that very last sentence in your post, I disregarded it.
Quote:Having an opinion about something doesn't make one ignorant. I see how they are handling things and I think they could be doing a whole lot better if they focused on one project instead of scattering resources all over. Its not hard to understand, I don't even know why I'm trying to explain myself here.
Read what I'm saying. You can have an opinion all you want, but if that opinion doesn't have any basis in reality it is ignorant and wrong .
You are ignorant, because it is obvious from your post that you don't know what you're talking about. That is not a big deal. Noone knows everything. But the fact that you completely disregard someone correcting your wrong assumptions with *fact* and then continue to spout your 'opinion' one post later irks me a little. Because imo there are few things worse than willful ignorance.
Example: You are a project developer and you're turning a piece of land in series of mid to high class residencies.
Do you a) do you what you are suggesting and let all your foundation workers, carpenters, bricklayers, plumbers and electricians work at the same house at the same time. 'Focussing on one project' and only continuing on once it's finished.
Or b) While the foundations of the first and second houses are set, have the foundation workers work on the foundations of the third house at the same time as your masons are working on the walls of the second house, while your carpenters are putting a roof on the finished walls of the first one so the electrician can start putting in the wiring.
I'm keeping the example simple because, as I'm sure you're aware, coördinating a build site is a bit more complex than this. And you know what? So is developing a game.
Dividing your personel up like this happens everywhere. Other game development studios do it, engineering agencies do it, research labs do it. And you know why? Because it is the most efficient way to do things.
You can have your opinion that it would be faster to just throw everyone at the same thing at the same time, but in that case your opnion is wrong. -

Quote:LOL, oh come on.ooo I love poetry!
WOW I remember when you could use the forums as place for feedback without being flamed or bashed for it. Jeez the nerve of some people, how could they complain about such a great game or not pat the backs of those hard working devs? No they should just blindly play and never say anything negative, only positive things must be said about this game. To complain might hurt the devs emotionally and lower content efficiency.
The amount of dev worship on this forum is crazy. You don't praise them for everything they do then you must be insane. If you complain for even a minute you should hang your head in shame and just go play another game.
The reason *I* reacted to your first post was two fold, and it has nothing to do with 'dev worship.'
1) Your tone was hostile for no good reason. It annoys me when people do that. It's funny that you're now complaining about being 'flamed and bashed' while you were the one instigating it. People will react to the tone you set.
2) Your post was so full of ignorance and flat out wrong that it was impossible to ignore. I also found it amusing that you chose to ignore my post but did reply to the Chad's reiterating the same ignorant arguments I just debunked. -
Quote:Heh, I still need to buy the steampunk pack, then I have every ingame item that's ever been for sale except the arachnos cape and emblem from the CoV collectors edition. I haven't gotten the steam punk pack yet because i can't get into my masteraccount, again. I already changed my security questions once when they became mandatory, but apparently I made a typo somewhere or something. It wont accept my answers even though I'm 99% sure i'm providing the correct ones. I should sort it out with support again one of these days ...This is why I have been snatching up all the packs over the past few months, usually one or two packs per pay period. I work it in alongside my comic book budget. Don't laugh, but previous to the announcement of Freedom, I always lagged behind on Booster Pack purchases, because I sort of enjoyed knowing there were always two or three more packs if I got in the mood to do some fashion shopping for my characters. I didn't want to be caught up. I guess I felt it'd be like walking into my local comic book store one month and not seeing anything new to buy. That would suck more than knowing I owned everything in the comic book store.
Anyway, as of a week ago, I now own every booster pack, expansion, and even a few rarer codes from collector's editions on Amazon (and some contests and giveaways). I've only been playing for two years, but I love this game so much. So today's Paragon Market announcement made me very happy. Very cool to see all the new stuff waiting for me to click on it and buy it, especially the Time Manipulation set and extra costume slots.
Also the Time Manipulation set will be free for subscribers, so you wont have to click on it and buy it. -
Quote:I actually have had several people in the past believe I was a girl because, and I quote one woman's reaction when she learned I was not, "you're to nice to be guy". (Yea, I know ... ) I also have a lot of female characters and apparently I make them in a way that looks like they were made by a girl, or so people tell me. I take it as a compliment.Heh, so have I, actually
That's when I first realised I have a very "womany" personality when I try to be nice with people. I forget what I was doing in Atlas Park on a character in shorts and a small jacket, but I got chatted up by this guy whose intent I didn't catch until he asked me if I had a boyfriend. Well... No, I don't, really... But I guess accept someone's approach, laugh at a joke he tells and don't IMMEDIATELY cut him off and you're already dating him unwittingly.
I was lucky enough that the guy wasn't a creep, just... A kid, probably, to be honest. So I told him I'm a guy and he went off to chat up some other G.I.R.L. I felt so rejected...
I also broke a guy's hearth once. He was a guy (in his late teens) who I had been playing with for a couple of weeks. He sought me out everyday to team up when he saw I was online. One day he started that whole 'I like you' conversation, and I reacted with something in the line of 'Woa, sorry man but I'm really not into guys', assuming he knew I was male. Then he asked 'Oh, so you are gay?' Which was the point where I clued in to the situation (dur) and told him that I was a guy. He was then quiet for a minute, said 'Oh' and promptly logged out. I didn't see him online for over a week after that. He later apologized for the misunderstanding (which wasn't needed imo) and we still teamed some together a couple of times. I haven't seen him online in over 3 years now though. -

Quote:...That wasn't full issue that was just something the gave us due to people complaining about having only 2 trials to do. About as small of an update as issue 15. They might have issues finished quicker if they stopped working on 2 or 3 of them at once and focused all efforts on one issue at a time.
Splitting personel up in teams/'taskforces'/whatever, each focussing on a different stage of a project, is actually a very common and effective way to tackle big projects in the real world. There are a lot of software development studios who work this way and it's used in things like engineering as well.
Also, it was said from the start of this whole incarnate thing that incarnate trials would be released 1 at a time with and in between issues.
It was planned like this, they didn't just quickly add an extra trial in.
You don't just throw a long term development schedule out of whack by shoehorning something big like an incarnate trial in, just because a number of people are impatient.
It always amazes me when random people think they know how to do things better than a whole company of professionals ... -
Quote:He will keep them. The Devs have explicitely said that everything you have bought you will keep when you go premium.Ah but here's the question, say a 6 year VIP starts with his original 12, 6 from vet rewards and he's bought 15 slots for a total of 33. Freedom goes live and he buys the 12 available JUST for VIPs. If that VIP then goes Premium, does he still keep those "VIP 12"? He should since technically they are bought slots.
In your example the now premium 6 year vet will end up with 2+6+15+12= 35 slots on that server and none on the other servers (assuming he chooses to redeem all his slots on that same server). His original 12 per server will go away and be replaced by 2 character slot tokens. -
Quote:Yes, but the 12 he got 'for free' (ie the standard slots every subscriber gets ) will go away.If a VIP buys 12 additional slots then goes Premium, do they keep those slots?
I'm guessing, but i believe that's the whole reason only VIPS can buy up to 48 slots. Premium players will be able to buy up to 36 and then when they subscribe they will have 48. -
Demons/time manipulation mm
claws/regen brute
Grav/time controller
Maybe a street fighting/ something brute or scrapper. dunno yet.
i'll also dust off my elec/energy brute. -
The only 'currency' I take issue with is the 2 different kinds of Incarnate xp.
It's unnecessary. Especially now since the Keyes trial, and apparently the new Underground trial both give credit for both types of xp.
I get the idea behind it was to 'force' people to sample both the initial trials so one was not largely ignored in favor of the other, but at this point there is no need for that anymore. Both trials have their proponents and I firmly believe both will still be run more or less equally if they gave out the same type of incarnate xp. And there are still the Empyrian as an incentive to variation. -
CoH: Statesman, Miss Liberty, Positron, BaBs and to a lesser extent Synapse. They all have iconic looks that truly look heroic to me. Though I wouldn't mind if they got a bit of a polishing up from some texture artist. Valkyrie, Luminary and Siege get the awards for crappiest looks. Especially Valk.
CoV: I like all 4 of the Patrons a lot. They're all iconic and fitting to what they represent. My favourite is Ghost Widow. Lord Recluse, well, I like the whole spider theme and the legs on his back, but the rest of his outfit doesn't do it for me.
I love the Praeotians in general, especially Cole in his white uniform. As for the others I basicly have the same favourites as I have with their Primal counterparts since they're essentially modernised and highres darker versions of those.Tillman is my least favourite in terms of looks. I love her character as she's protrayed in the Praetorian story arcs though.

Quote:You're definitely not alone. I have two high level characters who use ninja run as their travel power and one that uses beast run (well, she's not high level yet, but she will be.) I know plenty of other people who use them as primary travel powers aswel on some of their characters.Ninja and Beast Run are NOT the sole domain of the under L14 crowd, sir. I have an Incarnate already who has Beast Run as his sole travel power. With two L50 Run Speed IOs in each of Swift and Sprint, plus the +7.5 Run Speed unique Defense IO, he nearly equals a Super Speeder.
I may be the exception to your 'rule' but I know I am not alone. Flipping off of rooves in the Rogue Isles especially is visceral fun. So could you please circular-file your assumptions?
Actually the notion that people consider those as 'low level substitutes' is new to me. In combination with sprint they're plenty fast, if not as fast as super speed, but that's easily compensated by the added amount of vertical movement.
