Without question I'll move some of my characters to Union or Defiant once I've established some "anchor alts".
EDIT: Vigilance is likely to be spared my vestigial French. -
Great all-around information from the devs, but the preview of the Steampunk Pack hits this session for six!

Quote:How tantalizing:Check out the April Producer's Letter too - it's got some nice info, including a new zone for I21.
Quote:Additionally we will introduce content that is not directly Incarnate-related; we will wrap up some old plotlines and expand on others. In the next Issue (21), we will be featuring an entire new zone with lots of things to do, both solo and in a group. We aren't abandoning the independent spirit many of our players have. The zone will not only have new story arcs and contacts, but a very unique zone event that significantly links it to the greater storyline of the world. -
Congratulations!
The seventh anniversary is traditionally the "copper" one, so let us know if the devs' SG base could use a Copper Alembic Tank or Copper Lab Tank, large or small. -
Quote:There's no reason, even if practicing magic is somehow inherently difficult in Praetoria, that the remaining magical relics can't be distributed among the enemy groups. A Destroyer Hombre might hold on to a Luck Charm as a lucky charm, or a Syndicate Suit, Arcane Powder as an (ineffectual) ingredient in some traditional medicine recipe. These, however, are restricted to low- to mid-level salvage drops, so the question of where all the high-level ones have gone is open to speculation.I've been running a new character through Praetoria the last few days, and it made me wonder: What drops magical salvage here? Now, the answer to that question isn't interesting - I keep getting magical salvage, so SOMETHING drops it - but the follow-up question to that has had me going over existing content and pondering:
What enemy group in Praetoria is magical?
Perhaps Emperor Cole's version of the M.A.G.I. vault is actually effective in containing magical items? -
Not around here it doesn't.
Here's what the OP described as the sole criterion for examples in this thread:
Quote:Alright, what are they, everyone has atleast one guilty pleasure, a film they know is crap for whatever reason but they enjoy anyway.
Look around, do you think you've suddenly been transported to the offices of Cahiers du Cinema or the seminar rooms of the NYU Film School? -
Quote:Since the CoH body builder doesn't allow for independently stretching arms, people have played around with the "huge" body type and the skinny versions of regular male and female to simulate gorillas and monkeys. The results are pretty impressive, to judge from the many submissions to the best costume designs thread. It would seem that those players interested in "monkeying around" aren't fixated on morphological fidelity. (Think the original, more popular, Planet of the Apes vs. Tim Burton's weak, zoologically faithful remake.)For an ape, the problem is that they are already semi-bipedal (we evolved from them, after all). But they have longer (and in the case of gorillas, more muscular) arms, and their legs are comparatively shorter. If you put an ape's upper body on our human or monstrous lower body, it would look disproportionate.
Quote:Who knows, maybe we will see a version of this in the future, but my guess is that they skipped it this time around because they wanted to get the pack out and trying to figure out how to make Simian features work would have pushed back the release.
In any case, it's encouraging to see the devs reinvesting time and labor into an already released booster pack. With any luck, this will continue to drive sales for it and supply an argument for revisiting some of the other booster packs. -
This sounds like a great event - and a very generous offering - but sadly, I'll be away this weekend. Hope it goes well,

Quote:This astonishing ommission is the reason I've yet to purchase this pack. Why did CoH overlook the rich tradition of comicbook apes, e.g. Gorilla Grodd, Detective Chimp, Congorilla, Don Uggie Apelino, Gorilla-Man, Monsieur Mallah, the Red Ghost's Super-Apes, Titano, and the ape incarnation of the Ultra-Humanite, to name only a few?Still no Gorilla/chimp/generic ape head to go with that amazing "Savage" emote.
That aside, it's great that the art team is taking the time to improve an existing booster pack. -
Quote:This is one of CoH's brilliant innovations that's surprisingly uncopied by other MMOs. Level pact is a similar one. It's rather sad to consider how many in-game friends drift away in other MMOs simply because of falling out of sync with levelling. (I can think of only one other MMO that has a comparable feature, but I haven't actually played it.)1) Sidekick/exemplar system: Hands down, a great game mechanic. You can play with your friends who have joined at a different time than you, or with any new alt. Everyone has challenge and rewards, nobody needs to be left out anymore.
Quote:Customizing: It was the first MMO, I believe, where you could choose from so much variety in the look of your character. Even the few with customization that have since come out still don't match how much you can do here. -

Quote:I understand your proposal and appreciate your reasons for it. I was suggesting a teleporter as an alternative as a compromise between providing convenience for individual players and maintaining an actively circulating community. (Perhaps there are some Paragon fashionistas who, disdaining trips to Icon where the cape and spandex hoi poli purchase their off-the-rack costumes, would prefer the personalized option of bespoke tailoring, but to those, I would simply point out Paragon's unusually democratic approach to superheroic uniforms, even at the cost of mismatched pieces and clashing colors.)I don't mean a teleport to the tailor, as that would have the benefits of transportation as well as costume changing. I mean the ability to edit your costume, including height, at any place and at any time you so desire, just from the Costume window, for the same fee, of course.
City of Instances, for such a great MMO community, peculiarly is one of the most "hidden" in its game world. Providing its playerbase with even fewer opportunities to circulate (such as an SG tailor console) would detract from one of its greatest strengths. -
No thank you. This simply isn't much of a quality of life issue when there's now access to a tailor literally not more than one monorail ride away for heroes. Thanks to access to the Vanguard base, which had its level entry requirements removed, even the lowliest Atlas Park newbie can visit a tailor without risk of aggro. (Red side is marginally more difficult starting out in Mercy, but after that, it's on a par with blue side.)
A tailor teleport as a vet reward might work if it were on a timer like the others and transported the player to one of the existing tailors. As long as players are still circulating in the game at the regular places, player convenience and community dynamics should be balanced. -
Also, the Gamera movies are perfectly acceptable kaiju flicks and do not deserve to be singled out by MST3K.

A Better Tomorrow, Part II.
John Woo was criticized for making this over-the-top soap-operatic sequel, and he now doesn't consider it part of his oeuvre because of disagreements with the producer. In its favor, however, it has a see-saw balance between laconic cool and scenery chewing, "apologize to my rice", temporary insanity, New York City location shots obviously not approved by the mayor's office, a katana-spree in the middle of a hundred-man gunfight, and Chow Yun-Fat returning to play the role of the identical twin brother of the character who died in the first movie. -
Quote:Except that the Doctor already knows that in his future, he's going to give her his updated sonic screwdriver (which he presumably still has in his possession) and show up at a particular date (which he should be able to deduce after enough encounters), so he can still travel in time to that future event (when he doesn't know her as well as he did the first time she met him) but reappear in her past later in his timeline (when she doesn't know him as well as the first time he met her).In the Library episodes, she makes a mention that the previous meeting, the Doctor seemed to know their time together was close to ending in retrospect, So that meeting hasn't occured yet, so yes I think there will be a meeting where they will both know each other.
It looks as though the best the Doctor and River can expect is to encounter each other at some point when they're sufficiently acquainted with one another that they don't have to keep trying to impress each other with one-upmanship.
Moffat is really making my head hurt, and it's only the first episode this season. -
Quote:Conceivably, the Doctor could return at a later time to the Library planet where River's uploaded consciousness resides in its central computer after the events of The Forest of the Dead, but that would, I suspect, miss out on the tragedy that's gathering momentum this season. My friend has a theory that since we still haven't seen their penultimate meeting, that'll actually be the second-to-last meeting for the both of them. They'll have one "last" time together, where they both completely know each other.
As River puts it:
Quote:When I first met the Doctor, a long long time ago, he knew all about me. Think about that. Impressionable young girl, suddenly this man just drops out of the sky. He's clever and mad and wonderful, and knows every last thing about her. Imagine what that does to a girl. {...} Trouble is, it's all back to front. My past is his future. We're travelling in opposite directions. Every time we meet, I know him more, he knows me less. I live for the days when I see him. But I know that every time I do, I'm one step further away. The day's coming when I'll look into that man's eyes, my Doctor, and he won't have the faintest idea who I am. And I think it's going to kill me. -
Quote:After five seasons of overseas fans having to find alternative sources of the latest episodes, Auntie Beeb finally decided to coordinate air dates. Here's hoping BBC-US doesn't butcher the premiere with bad cuts (they also apparently aren't showing the tribute to Elisabeth Sladen). And though i am hyped about no 2 week delay this year, i dont recall seeing if there is any word yet on if the BBCA episodes will be the same lenght as the UK versions. I know they have been different in the past

The general consensus is the Dead Planet is dispensible, canonically, although it works well as a standalone Doctor Who adventure. The Waters of Mars and The End of Time are required watching for the themes they introduce as well as being the capstone to Tennant's career as the Doctor. While they do make ample use of the Total Bollocks Overdrive (spoilers), they definitely deliver some of the run's high points.
Incidentally, Russell Davies later wrote a book about his seat-of-the-pants experience of producing this final year of Doctor Who and uploaded all his screenplays to series 4/4.5 to its website. -

The BBC will air a short tribute, My Sarah Jane, directly following Saturday's Doctor Who premiere.

Quote:It's not necessary to go to the extreme of bulldozing the neighborhood to make something as uninviting as the D.C. mall. A combination of improving the sightlines and breaking up the streets' grid pattern would go a long way to improving the flow of Galaxy City's central area. It could also use some kind of visible landmark to anchor the zone, the way the Empire State Building does in midtown Manhattan. Perhaps the arena's neighborhood could be remodelled to fulfill that role. (Galaxy Girl's statue could be a candidate, although many players apparently like the way it's somewhat secluded.)One of the things I like about Galaxy is the fact that there's breathing room between its main attractions. I will say that knocking down a few of the non-descript buildings and perhaps either raising or tweaking others would help.
In any case, there's evidently nothing in Galaxy City that says to an aspiring supervillain or ambitious giant monster conquer this or destroy that. No wonder it's the emptiest non-hazard blueside zone.
